Last-mile bottleneck, fire-wall bottleneck, and internal network congestion bottleneck are well-known performance bottleneck problems of private sector in national R&E network since Internet is adopted for R&E network. The emergency of big data science makes these problems more severe because a famous scientist under such a circumstance is severely restricted in his/her big data R&D. Therefore, government cannot leave these stubs in the realm of a private organization any longer. We, KREONET (Korea Research Environment Open Network), tried to solve these problems by SDN-IP (software-defined network-Internet protocol) based on ONOS (Open Network Operation System); SDN-IP is the leading technology for the softwarization of network, and it is developed by On Lab. KREONET began to deploy SDN-IP as a tool for the softwarization of Korea R&E network even though others studied to business its' feature for the enhancement of resource management of data center first. The initial goal during the construction of SDN-IP for KREONET is to solve well-known problems in R&E network, which are related with last-mile, fire-wall, and internal network congestion. These 3 problems are not solved for a long time because it costs too much when we try to solve them by the way of the existed hardware networking. In this paper, we introduce our experience that can catch two rabbits at the same time. These experiences are about the provision of the initial popular service of SDN-IP with the solution of those well-known bottleneck problems and about the economic way of SDN-IP construction by incremental hybrid networking of legacy Internet and SDN-IP. Deep packet inspection (DPI) is important for network security. In this paper, we consider a software-defined network where several DPI proxy nodes are available for serving flows from ingress switches. These DPI proxy nodes can be implemented in either software or hardware. We study an integrated proxy allocation and routing determining problem with the objective of minimizing the total delay of flows from ingress switches to DPI proxies. This problem is formulated as an integer linear programming problem that is NP-hard in general. To solve this problem, we design a 2-phase algorithm that can quickly select proxy and find routing paths for incoming flows. Finally, extensive simulations are conducted to evaluate the performance of our proposed algorithm. Some useful parameter setting insights are obtained. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The application based on big data is an important development trend of underwater acoustic sensor networks. However, traditional underwater acoustic sensor networks rely on the hardware infrastructure. The flexibility and scalability cannot be satisfied greatly. Due to the low performance of underwater acoustic sensor networks, it creates significant barriers to the implementation of big data. Software-defined network is regarded as a new infrastructure of next-generation network. It offers a novel solution for designing underwater acoustic sensor networks of high performance. In this article, a software-defined network–based solution is proposed to build the architecture of underwater acoustic sensor networks in big data. The design procedures of the data plane and control plane are described in detail. In the data plane, the works include the hardware design of OpenFlow-based virtual switch and the design of the physical layer based on software-defined radio. The hierarchical clustering technology and the node addressing techniques for designing media access control layer are well introduced. In the control plane, exploiting the hardware of the controller and designing the core module of controllers are presented as well. Through the study, it is supposed to maximize the capacity of underwater acoustic sensor networks, reduce the management complexity, and provide critical technical support for the high-performance underwater acoustic sensor networks. Several reported studies have focussed particular interest on the elastic control via OpenFlow (OF) switch migrations in software‐defined networks to avoid uneven load distributions among controllers. However, it is not clear which switch should be migrated and where it will be moved. A paradigm that the heavy controller tries to migrate its switches, and other light controllers compete for the migrated switches, is designed. Then, taking light controllers as the game players and OF switches as commodities, a zero‐sum game model is exploited, to emulate the competitions for migrated switches among light controllers. This model first chooses a switch for migration by a heavy controller (called the game sponsor) which invites its light neighbours as game players to formulate the local game domain (GD). Secondly, the process of game‐play in one GD is designed based on the constraints of the zero‐sum game. Note that several non‐overlapped GDs could co‐exist over the network so that the game‐plays could be calculated in the concurrent way. The results are corroborated by several numerical experiments. We integrate, for the first time in the literature, the following ingredients to deal with emerging dynamic spectrum management (DSM) problem in heterogeneous wireless sensors and actuators networks (WSANs), Internet of things (IoT) and Wi-Fi: (i) named-based routing to provide provenance and location-independent access to control plane; (ii) temporary storage of control data for efficient and cohesive control dissemination, as well as asynchronous communication between software-controllers and devices; (iii) contract-based control to improve trust-ability of actions; (iv) service-defined configuration of wireless devices, approximating their configurations to real services needs. The work is implemented using NovaGenesis architecture and a proof-of-concept is evaluated in a real scenario, demonstrating our approach to automate radio frequency channel optimization in Wi-Fi and IEEE 802.15.4 networks in the 2.4 GHz bands. An integrated cognitive radio system provides the dual-mode best channel indications for novel DSM services in NovaGenesis. By reconfiguring Wi-Fi/IoT devices to best channels, the proposed solution more than doubles the network throughput, when compared to the case of mutual interference. Therefore, environments equipped with the proposal provide enhanced performance to their users.
