Abstract

The effects of self-monitoring on the procedural integrity of token economy implementation by 3 staff in a special education classroom were evaluated. The subsequent changes in academic readiness behaviors of 2 students with low-incidence disabilities were measured. Multiple baselines across staff and students showed that procedural integrity increased when staff used monitoring checklists, and students' academic readiness behavior also increased. Results are discussed with respect to the use of self-monitoring and the importance of procedural integrity in public school settings.

An essential component of best practice in the field of early childhood special education is the inclusion of children with disabilities in typical early childhood settings. As the practice of inclusion has increased in recent years it has become imperative to ensure that children with disabilities attend quality programs. The main purpose of this study was to examine the practices and principles that support quality inclusion of children with disabilities. The SpeciaLink Early Childhood Inclusion Quality Scale was used to determine practices and principles that currently exist in early childhood programs. The scale was also used to determine the practices and principles that needed to be improved upon to ensure quality.

511. Out-of-District Special Needs Preschool and Impact on Length of Placement

Abstract

The overall purpose of this study was to determine the impact that enrolling in an out-of-district preschool setting at a specific county special services school district in southern New Jersey had on students’ total time of enrollment in the district when compared to students that enrolled in the district after preschool. All students enrolled in the district were special education students whose needs could not be met in the local setting. The preschool programs offered integration with typically developing daycare children, while all other district programs were self-contained. This quantitative study was conducted using ex post facto data collected between the years of 2006 and 2015. The goal of the research was to determine if there was a difference in the total time enrolled between the two groups of students and to examine factors that may have contributed to that difference, including early identification and early intervention.
