Abstract

Abstract: We explore a dark matter model extending the standard model particle content by one fermionic SU(2)L triplet and two fermionic SU(2)L quadruplets, leading to a minimal realistic UV-complete model of electroweakly interacting dark matter which interacts with the Higgs doublet at tree level via two kinds of Yukawa couplings. After electroweak symmetry-breaking, the physical spectrum of the dark sector consists of three Majorana fermions, three singly charged fermions, and one doubly charged fermion, with the lightest neutral fermion χ10 serving as a dark matter candidate. A typical spectrum exhibits a large degree of degeneracy in mass between the neutral and charged fermions, and we examine the one-loop corrections to the mass differences to ensure that the lightest particle is neutral. We identify regions of parameter space for which the dark matter abundance is saturated for a standard cosmology, including coannihilation channels, and find that this is typically achieved for (Formula presented.) TeV. Constraints from precision electroweak measurements, searches for dark matter scattering with nuclei, and dark matter annihilation are important, but leave open a viable range for a thermal relic.

656. Highly Anisotropic and Robust Excitons in Monolayer Black Phosphorus

Abstract

Semi-metallic graphene and semiconducting monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) are the two-dimensional (2D) materials most intensively studied in recent years. Recently, black phosphorus emerged as a promising new 2D material due to its widely tunable and direct bandgap, high carrier mobility and remarkable in-plane anisotropic electrical, optical and phonon properties. However, current progress is primarily limited to its thin-film form, and its unique properties at the truly 2D quantum confinement have yet to be demonstrated. Here, we reveal highly anisotropic and tightly bound excitons in monolayer black phosphorus using polarization-resolved photoluminescence measurements at room temperature. We show that regardless of the excitation laser polarization, the emitted light from the monolayer is linearly polarized along the light effective mass direction and centers around 1.3 eV, a clear signature of emission from highly anisotropic bright excitons. In addition, photoluminescence excitation spectroscopy suggests a quasiparticle bandgap of 2.2 eV, from which we estimate an exciton binding energy of around 0.9 eV, consistent with theoretical results based on first-principles. The experimental observation of highly anisotropic, bright excitons with exceedingly large binding energy not only opens avenues for the future explorations of many-electron effects in this unusual 2D material, but also suggests a promising future in optoelectronic devices such as on-chip infrared light sources.

657. Tau Portal Dark Matter models at the LHC

Abstract

Motivated by the Galactic Center gamma-ray excess in the Fermi-LAT data, we study the signatures of a class of tau portal dark matter (DM) models where DM particles preferentially couple to tau leptons at the LHC. We consider the constraints from the DM direct detection and investigate the sensitivity of the LHC to di-tau plus missing energy signatures. We find that the LHC with a high luminosity of 3000 fb$^{-1}$ can test the tau portal DM models with fermionic mediators in the mass range of $120\sim450$ GeV., Comment: 10 pages, 5 figures

Abstract

We explore the mono-$Z$ signature for dark matter searches at future high energy $e^+e^-$ colliders. In the context of effective field theory, we consider two kinds of contact operators describing dark matter interactions with electroweak gauge bosons and with electron/positron, respectively. For five benchmark models, we propose kinematic cuts to distinguish signals from backgrounds for both charged leptonic and hadronic decay modes of the $Z$ boson. We also present the experimental sensitivity to cutoff scales of effective operators and compare it with that of the Fermi-LAT indirect search and demonstrate the gains in significance for the several configurations of polarized beams., Comment: 12 pages, 7 figures

664. Detecting interactions between dark matter and photons at high energy $e^+e^-$ colliders

Abstract

We investigate the sensitivity to the effective operators describing interactions between dark matter particles and photons at future high energy $e^+e^-$ colliders via the $\gamma+ \slashed{E}$ channel. Such operators could be useful to interpret the potential gamma-ray line signature observed by the Fermi-LAT. We find that these operators can be further tested at $e^+ e^-$ colliders by using either unpolarized or polarized beams. We also derive a general unitarity condition for $2 \to n$ processes and apply it to the dark matter production process $e^+e^-\to\chi\chi\gamma$., Comment: 13 pages, 8 figures

Abstract

The AMS-02 collaboration has just published a high precision measurement of the cosmic positron fraction $e^+/(e^- + e^+)$, which rises with energy from $\sim 5$ GeV to $\sim 350$ GeV. The result indicates the existence of primary electron/positron sources to account for the positron excess. In this work, we investigate the possibility that the nearby mature pulsars are the primary positron sources. By fitting the data we find that the positrons from a single nearby pulsar, such as Geminga or Monogem, with the spectral index $\alpha \sim 2$ can interpret the AMS-02 result. We also investigate the possibility that high energy positrons are generated by multiple known pulsars in the ATNF catalogue. Such a scenario can also fit the AMS-02 data well. Future precise measurements of fine structures in the positron spectrum would be a support to the pulsar scenario., Comment: 8 pages, 6 figures
