A case of epididymal leiomyoma with bizarre nuclei is described. A 48-year-old man presented with a painless scrotal mass raising the suspicion of a testicular neoplasm. A seven-year follow-up revealed no evidence of local recurrence or distant metastasis. To personal knowledge, this is the first reported case of bizarre leiomyoma of the epididymis.

Liposarcoma is the most common adult soft tissue sarcoma. The hallmark is the immature fat cell or lipoblast. It occurs in late adult life, frequently in the lower extremities, in the retroperitoneal, perineal and mesenteric region. Retroperitoneal liposarcoma doesn't produce symptoms until it is very large. A review of the literature is made and the case of a 65-years old man, submitted to surgical treatment for a bulky retroperitoneal mixoid liposarcoma is reported.

Paragangliomas are uncommon tumours that comprise less than 0.1% of all primary bladder neoplasms. Approximately half of the patients present the clinical triad of hypertension, haematuria and attacks associated with micturition. About 10% of vesical paragangliomas behave malignantly. This may be manifested as local invasion or metastatic spread, particularly to lymph nodes and lung. The best therapy remains total excision and partial cystectomy is considered adequate treatment for most cases. We report a case of paraganglioma of the bladder with extramural appearance in a 39-year-old man. Clinical symptoms were hypertension, dysuria and a well-defined hypogastric mass. One year after complete removal of the tumour, the patient is asymptomatic and normotensive, with normal catecholamine and vanillylmandelic acid (VMA) levels.

Intestinal metaplasia is a rare condition characterized by the presence of colonic epithelium and mucin-containing goblet cells in the bladder. According to its extension we can distinguish localized from widespread intestinal metaplasia. We describe a case of glandular cystitis intestinal-type in a 58-year-old man whose clinical history and diagnostic work-up are consistent with this proliferative abnormality. We also discuss the pathogenesis and the propensity of intestinal metaplasia to undergo neoplastic transformation.

The fibromatoses represent a broad group of fibroblastic proliferations characterized by infiltrative growth and a tendency toward recurrence but, unlike malignant fibrous tumors, they do not metastasize. Mesenteric fibromatosis arising from the mesentery of the small bowel is rare. It may be sporadic or may occur in association with polyposis coli and other soft tissue tumors as a component of Gardner's syndrome. We report a case of mesenteric fibromatosis in a 52-year-old man with no evidence of Gardner's syndrome. The neoplasm occupied the whole abdominal cavity, weighing 12 kg, with the greatest diameter being 50 cm. Histological findings (i.e moderate degree of cellularity, lack of nuclear pleomorphism and mitotic figures) allowed to rule out malignancy. Surgical removal is actually the only effective treatment for mesenteric fibromatosis. Excision must be as wide as possible in order to prevent local recurrence. Until now, no satisfactory results have been obtained with external radiotherapy. More recently, anti-inflammatory drugs have been used in the management of this tumor.

The infections caused by Group B Streptococci (GBS) are particularly serious in newborns. Colonized mothers are responsible for the infection's transmission at delivery. The aim of our work has been to estimate the number of carriers of GBS among women recovered at the Hospital of Pistoia.
