Understanding the genomic basis of adaptative intraspecific phenotypic variation is a central goal in conservation genetics and evolutionary biology. Lake trout (Salvelinus namaycush) are an excellent species for addressing the genetic basis for adaptive variation because they express a striking degree of ecophenotypic variation across their range; however, necessary genomic resources are lacking. Here we utilize recently-developed analytical methods and sequencing technologies to (1) construct a high-density linkage and centromere map for lake trout, (2) identify loci underlying variation in traits that differentiate lake trout ecophenotypes and populations, (3) determine the location of the lake trout sex determination locus, and (4) identify chromosomal homologies between lake trout and other salmonids of varying divergence. The resulting linkage map contains 15,740 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) mapped to 42 linkage groups, likely representing the 42 lake trout chromosomes. Female and male linkage group lengths ranged from 43.07 to 134.64 centimorgans, and 1.97 to 92.87 centimorgans, respectively. We improved the map by determining coordinates for 41 of 42 centromeres, resulting in a map with 8 metacentric chromosomes and 34 acrocentric or telocentric chromosomes. We use the map to localize the sex determination locus and multiple quantitative trait loci (QTL) associated with intraspecific phenotypic divergence including traits related to growth and body condition, patterns of skin pigmentation, and two composite geomorphometric variables quantifying body shape. Two QTL for the presence of vermiculations and spots mapped with high certainty to an arm of linkage group Sna3, growth related traits mapped to two QTL on linkage groups Sna1 and Sna12, and putative body shape QTL were detected on six separate linkage groups. The sex determination locus was mapped to Sna4 with high confidence. Synteny analysis revealed that lake trout and congener Arctic char (Salvelinus alpinus) are likely differentiated by three or four chromosomal fissions, possibly one chromosomal fusion, and 6 or more large inversions. Combining centromere mapping information with putative inversion coordinates revealed that the majority of detected inversions differentiating lake trout from other salmonids are pericentric and located on acrocentric and telocentric linkage groups. Our results suggest that speciation and adaptive divergence within the genus Salvelinus may have been associated with multiple pericentric inversions occurring primarily on acrocentric and telocentric chromosomes. The linkage map presented here will be a critical resource for advancing conservation oriented genomic research on lake trout and exploring chromosomal evolution within and between salmonid species. Seawater temperature rise in French Polynesia has repeatedly resulted in the bleaching of corals and giant clams. Because giant clams possess distinctive ectosymbiotic features, they represent a unique and powerful model for comparing molecular pathways involved in (a) maintenance of symbiosis and (b) acquisition of thermotolerance among coral reef organisms. Herein, we explored the physiological and transcriptomic responses of the clam hosts and their photosynthetically active symbionts over a 65 day experiment in which clams were exposed to either normal or environmentally relevant elevated seawater temperatures. Additionally, we used metabarcoding data coupled with in situ sampling/survey data to explore the relative importance of holobiont adaptation (i.e., a symbiont community shift) versus acclimation (i.e., physiological changes at the molecular level) in the clams' responses to environmental change. We finally compared transcriptomic data to publicly available genomic datasets for Symbiodiniaceae dinoflagellates (both cultured and in hospite with the coral Pocillopora damicornis) to better tease apart the responses of both hosts and specific symbiont genotypes in this mutualistic association. Gene module preservation analysis revealed that the function of the symbionts' photosystem II was impaired at high temperature, and this response was also found across all holobionts and Symbiodiniaceae lineages examined. Similarly, epigenetic modulation appeared to be a key response mechanism for symbionts in hospite with giant clams exposed to high temperatures, and such modulation was able to distinguish thermotolerant from thermosensitive Cladocopium goreaui ecotypes; epigenetic processes may, then, represent a promising research avenue for those interested in coral reef conservation in this era of changing global climate. Islands are generally colonized by few individuals which could lead to a founder effect causing loss of genetic diversity and rapid divergence by strong genetic drift. Insular conditions can also induce new selective pressures on populations. Here, we investigated the extent of genetic differentiation within a white‐tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) population introduced on an island and its differentiation with its source mainland population. In response to their novel environmental conditions, introduced deer changed phenotypically from mainland individuals, therefore we investigated the genetic bases of the morphological differentiation. The study was conducted on Anticosti Island (Québec, Canada) where 220 individuals were introduced 120 years ago, resulting in a population size over 160,000 individuals. We used genotyping‐by‐sequencing (GBS) to generate 8,518 filtered high‐quality SNPs and compared patterns of genetic diversity and differentiation between the continental and Anticosti Island populations. Clustering analyses indicated a single panmictic island population and no sign of isolation by distance. Our results revealed a weak, albeit highly significant, genetic differentiation between the Anticosti Island population and its source population (mean FST = 0.005), which allowed a population assignment success of 93%. Also, the high genetic diversity maintained in the introduced population supports the absence of a strong founder effect due to the large number of founders followed by rapid population growth. We further used a polygenic approach to assess the genetic bases of the divergent phenotypical traits between insular and continental populations. We found loci related to muscular function and lipid metabolism, which suggested that these could be involved in local adaptation on Anticosti Island. • Food availability and mesoscale turbulence in the Marquesas jointly constrained larval dispersal, reducing its potential connectivity with other archipelagos in French Polynesia. • Settlement success is influenced by climatic ENSO cycles that drive ocean currents in the Pacific region. • Biophysical modelling refines management unit's definition in extremely fragmented archipelagos. Larval dispersal and connectivity are key processes that drive marine metapopulation dynamics, and therefore should be well characterized when designing effective management strategies. While temperature and food availability can structure marine species connectivity patterns, their contribution has not been thoroughly investigated in highly fragmented archipelagos. We used biophysical modeling of larval dispersal to explore the connectivity patterns of species with complex life-cycles across French Polynesia (FP), a territory formed by more than a hundred small, geographically isolated islands covering an area as large as Europe. We first simulated ten years of larval dispersal to investigate the spatial and temporal (seasonal and interannual) variability in larval dispersal pathways for different hypothetical species exhibiting a range of Larval Precompetency Period (LPP) values. Then, using the black-lip pearl oyster (Pinctada margaritifera) as a model species, we accounted for variability in the LPP induced by temperature and food availability, as derived from a Dynamic Energy Budget (DEB) model. The model showed that food availability and mesoscale turbulence (eddies) in the Marquesas jointly constrained larval dispersal, reducing its potential connectivity with other archipelagos in FP. The DEB simulations also revealed seasonal and interannual variability in connectivity driven by environmental conditions. However, accounting for food and temperature effects on larval development, barely changed the connectivity pattern at regional scale due to the remoteness of this archipelago. Evidence of a periodic biorhythm is retained in tooth enamel in the form of Retzius lines. The periodicity of Retzius lines ( RP) correlates with body mass and the scheduling of life history events when compared between some mammalian species. The correlation has led to the development of the inter-specific Havers-Halberg oscillation ( HHO) hypothesis, which holds great potential for studying aspects of a fossil species biology from teeth. Yet, our understanding of if, or how, the HHO relates to human skeletal growth is limited. The goal here is to explore associations between the biorhythm and two hard tissues that form at different times during human ontogeny, within the context of the HHO. First, we investigate the relationship of RP to permanent molar enamel thickness and the underlying daily rate that ameloblasts secrete enamel during childhood. Following this, we develop preliminary research conducted on small samples of adult human bone by testing associations between RP, adult femoral length (as a proxy for attained adult stature) and cortical osteocyte lacunae density (as a proxy for the rate of osteocyte proliferation). Results reveal RP is positively correlated with enamel thickness, negatively correlated with femoral length, but weakly associated with the rate of enamel secretion and osteocyte proliferation. These new data imply that a slower biorhythm predicts thicker enamel for children but shorter stature for adults. Our results develop the intra-specific HHO hypothesis suggesting that there is a common underlying systemic biorhythm that has a role in the final products of human enamel and bone growth. Using massively parallel sequencing data from two species with different life history traits, American lobster ( Homarus americanus) and Arctic Char ( Salvelinus alpinus), we highlight how an unbalanced sex ratio in the samples and a few sex-linked markers may lead to false interpretations of population structure and thus to potentially erroneous management recommendations. Here, multivariate analyses revealed two genetic clusters separating samples by sex instead of by expected spatial variation: inshore and offshore locations in lobster, or east and west locations in Arctic Char. To further investigate this, we created several subsamples artificially varying the sex ratio in the inshore/offshore and east/west groups and then demonstrated that significant genetic differentiation could be observed despite panmixia in lobster, and that FST values were overestimated in Arctic Char. This pattern was due to 12 and 94 sex-linked markers driving differentiation for lobster and Arctic Char, respectively. Removing sex-linked markers led to nonsignificant genetic structure in lobster and a more accurate estimation of FST in Arctic Char. The locations of these markers and putative identities of genes containing or nearby the markers were determined using available transcriptomic and genomic data, and this provided new information related to sex determination in both species. Given that only 9.6% of all marine/diadromous population genomic studies to date have reported sex information, we urge researchers to collect and consider individual sex information. Sex information is therefore relevant for avoiding unexpected biases due to sex-linked markers as well as for improving our knowledge of sex determination systems in nonmodel species. In Primates, enamel thickness variation stems from an evolutionary interplay between functional/adaptive constraints (ecology) and the strict control mechanisms of the morphogenetic program. Most studies on primate enamel thickness have primarily considered the permanent teeth, while the extent of covariation in tooth enamel thickness distribution between deciduous and permanent counterparts remains poorly investigated. In this test study on nine extant and fossil hominids we investigated the degree of covariation in enamel proportions between 25 pairs of mandibular dm2 and M1 by a so-called “lateral enamel thickness diphyodontic index”. The results did not provide an unambiguous picture, but rather suggest complex patterns likely resulting from the influence of many interactive factors. Future research should test the congruence of the “diphyodontic signal” between the anterior and the postcanine dentition, as well as between enamel and the enamel-dentine junction topography. The WEST project consists of implementing a divertor configuration in the Tore Supra Tokamak. This modification requires to renew the magnetic diagnostics and especially adding new magnetic sensors in the divertor region. This has provided an opportunity to consider some enhancements to the existing integrator modules of the magnetic diagnostics. Two prototypes have been produced using different combinations of technical solutions, aiming to achieve lower drift and higher common mode rejection ratio (CMRR). This paper presents the explored and tested ways we followed in order to create enhanced analogue integrators for long pulses. The results of extensive and comprehensive tests are summarized. The achieved performances are analyzed regarding the WEST project specifications and furthermore, the latest ITER requirements for magnetic diagnostics integrators are also considered. In living organisms, calcium carbonate biomineralization combines complex bio-controlled physical and chemical processes to produce crystalline hierarchical hard tissues (usually calcite or aragonite) typically from an amorphous precursor phase. Understanding the nature of the successive transient amorphous phases potentially involved in the amorphous-to-crystalline transition requires characterization tools, which are able to provide a spatial and spectroscopic analysis of the biomineral structure. In this work, we present a highly sensitive coherent Raman microscopy approach, which allows one to image molecular bond concentrations in post mortem shells and living animals, by exploiting the vibrational signature of the different carbonates compounds. To this end, we target the ν 1 calcium carbonate vibration mode and produce spatially and spectroscopically resolved images of the shell border of a mollusk shell, the Pinctada margaritifera pearl oyster. A novel approach is further presented to efficiently compare the amount of amorphous carbonate with respect to its crystalline counterpart. Finally, the whole microscopy method is used to image in vivo the shell border and demonstrate the feasibility and the reproducibility of the technique. Disruptions in large size tokamak like ITER must be mitigated to reduce detrimental effects on the device. Massive impurity injection prior to disruption is a promising mitigation technique. Many injector designs have already been tested on nowadays tokamaks. A novel concept of injector has been designed and tested on Tore Supra. It is based on the use of high pressure cartridges sealed with a bursting disc. For firing, an electric arc is generated inside the cartridge close to the rupture disc. This initiates a shock wave which breaks the disc. Tests show that the opening is achieved in less than 400 μs. A detailed modeling of the fast injector operation is presented. One result is that the gas is expelled in about 2 ms and an outflow rate as large as 4.2 × 10 25 atoms/s can be achieved at the nozzle exit (1 cm diameter). Massive neon gas injections have be performed on stable plasma to validate the concept. The gas penetration into the plasma prior to disruption is followed by a fast camera. Comparison with a ferromagnetic-valve based injector was also carried out. It is found that the velocity of the cold front penetration into the hot plasma is larger using this new injector. Extended phosphorus (P) deficiency has been linked to an increase of skeletal deformities in farmed salmonids. To date, X-ray examination still is the most practical way to detect abnormalities that are not externally visible. The aim of this study was to develop a standardized method based on empirical measurements that provides an early radiograph-based detection of deformities. Triploid all-female rainbow trout (60.8 ± 1.6 g) were fed with phosphorus (P)-deficient and P-sufficient diets (total P = 0.5% and 0.92%, respectively). Experiments were carried out in 12 circular re-circulating tanks (n = 140/tank; 8.5-52.7 kg m−3; 12 ± 0.3°C; 18L: 6D). All fish were x-rayed at week 5, 15 and 24 to monitor vertebral abnormalities. Fish were assigned to a vertebral phenotype (normal, biconcave or compressed) when all vertebrae of the caudal region (V31-44) showed the same type of abnormalities. At week 9, 18 and 27, ten fish per tank were randomly sampled according to their vertebral phenotype. Vertebrae V38-V39 were collected and a second X-ray was performed to confirm the above-mentioned phenotypes. Morphometrics (vertebral length and height; intervertebral distances and vertebral body angles) were measured directly on radiographs. For all parameters measured, comparisons were made between normal P-sufficient fish and different scenarios of vertebral development (normal, restored, stable and aggravated) in P-deficient fish. The two parameters showing the most sensitivity were the median intervertebral distance and dorsal/ventral vertebral endplate angles. When analysed together, these two parameters allow a quantitative distinction of the different vertebral phenotypes. Measuring dorsal/ventral vertebral endplate angles seems a promising approach to detect aberrant vertebral development at early stages as slight changes were observed in P-deficient vertebrae that were assessed as normal by visual examination. Short stature, hyperextensibility of joints and/or inguinal hernia, ocular depression, Rieger anomaly, and teething delay (SHORT) syndrome is a developmental disorder with an unknown genetic cause and hallmarks that include insulin resistance and lack of subcutaneous fat. We ascertained two unrelated individuals with SHORT syndrome, hypothesized that the observed phenotype was most likely due to de novo mutations in the same gene, and performed whole-exome sequencing in the two probands and their unaffected parents. We then confirmed our initial observations in four other subjects with SHORT syndrome from three families, as well as 14 unrelated subjects presenting with syndromic insulin resistance and/or generalized lipoatrophy associated with dysmorphic features and growth retardation. Overall, we identified in nine affected individuals from eight families de novo or inherited PIK3R1 mutations, including a mutational hotspot (c.1945C>T [p.Arg649Trp]) present in four families. PIK3R1 encodes the p85α, p55α, and p50α regulatory subunits of class IA phosphatidylinositol 3 kinases (PI3Ks), which are known to play a key role in insulin signaling. Functional data from fibroblasts derived from individuals with PIK3R1 mutations showed severe insulin resistance for both proximal and distal PI3K-dependent signaling. Our findings extend the genetic causes of severe insulin-resistance syndromes and provide important information with respect to the function of PIK3R1 in normal development and its role in human diseases, including growth delay, Rieger anomaly and other ocular affections, insulin resistance, diabetes, paucity of fat, and ovarian cysts. Background: Optimal dosage for growth hormone (GH) therapy in short, prepubertal children born small for gestational age (SGA) is controversial. Methods: SGA OPTIMIS (NCT00249821) is a multicenter, open-label, parallel-group, pilot study of short children born SGA who had received recombinant human GH (r-hGH) (57 μg/kg/day) for 3 years. Children were randomized 1:1 to receive either 57 or 35 μg/kg/day r-hGH during year 4. The primary endpoint was height gain during year 4. Results: 22 children were randomized (57 μg/kg/day, n = 10; 35 μg/kg/day, n = 12) and 21 completed the fourth year of therapy; 22 were included in efficacy analyses. During year 4, mean [standard deviation (SD)] height velocity was 6.4 (1.4) and 4.4 (1.2) cm/year (p = 0.001) and height velocity SD score (SDS) was 0.3 (0.3) and -0.1 (0.2) (p = 0.002) in the 57 and 35 μg/kg/day groups, respectively. The 57 μg/kg/day group continued with catch-up growth, had a significantly higher mean weight gain (p = 0.015) and significantly higher insulin-like growth factor-I levels at 12 months (p = 0.038). Five treatment-emergent adverse events were reported; none was serious or caused study withdrawal. Conclusions: Children who continued receiving 57 μg/kg/day r-hGH in year 4 had significantly greater height gain than those receiving 35 μg/kg/day r-hGH. Copyright © 2012 S. Abstract: Fiber optic current sensors have been recently considered for current measurements in ITER. These sensors exploit Ampere''s law by measuring the change of light polarization along an optical fiber subjected to a magnetic field aligned along the fiber axis. Through collaboration between CEA and SCK·CEN, such fiber optic current sensors have been installed on Tore Supra tokamak as a first demonstration for possible future applications in ITER. This paper aims at reporting the results obtained on Tore Supra. It discusses the technique used to separate the effects of the intrinsic linear birefringence and the magneto-induced circular birefringence, the latter enabling the determination of the current flowing through the area defined by the optic fiber loop. Three optical fibers have been installed on Tore Supra for assessment of their linearity response on a wide range of plasma current from 0.3 to 1.4MA as well as their long term stability. Abstract: The current status of the ITER magnetics diagnostic is summarised. The various risks are discussed on the basis of when they could be present during ITER operation and appropriate mitigation is reviewed. An implementation risk or common mode operation failure risk to the magnetic diagnostic can only be mitigated by diversity. All identified risks are being handled with ongoing research and development to minimise these risks. A reasonable level of design and manufacturing diversity has been therefore introduced in the procurement and installation plans, in order to optimise overall reliability avoiding dispersion of resources. Abstract: We report a case of macroamylasemia in an 11-year-old boy. We compare our clinical and paraclinical data with those described in pediatric literature. Macroamylase resulted in a complex of amylase and immuglobulin. Its fortuitous detection did not reveal, up to now, any associated pathology, in particular any autoimmune disorders or celiac disease. Identification of this biochemical abnormality is essential in order to avoid invasive investigations and/or unnecessary therapies. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: Climatotherapy has been shown to have beneficial effects in asthma. Recent studies confirm the improvement of obstructive pulmonary disease, regression of bronchial hyperreactivity, and diminution of markers of inflammation during stays at high altitude. Reduction in the level of allergen is considered to be one of the most significant consequences of climatotherapy. In addition to its direct therapeutic benefits, climatotherapy incorporates comprehensive care including patient education and physical rehabilitation for asthmatic patients. Nosocomial infections are a preoccupation in a pediatric hospital mainly during the winter with bronchiolitis and gastroenteritis epidemics. We have examined the risk factors of nosocomial infections.Material and methods. – A prospective study was conducted between November, 1999 and March, 2000 in the infants units of the Le Havre hospital. We systematically listed the admissions and contacted the family after their discharge by phone. A geographic information system was implemented to display the epidemiological data; this software is able to illustrate the sectors at risk.Results. – During the study, 687 infants were hospitalized of whom 458 for bronchiolitis and community-acquired gastroenteritis. Mean age was 5.4 months old. No nosocomial bronchiolitis occured. Prevalence of nosocomial gastroenteritis was 10% (68 cases including nine after discharge). Infants with nosocomial infection were younger than those with community-acquired infection (6.6 months vs. 11.2 months, P < 0.01). The mean length of stay was longer in nosocomial infection (7.7 vs. 4.1 days, P < 0.05). Among the infants with bronchiolitis, 16% have developed nosocomial intestinal infections (RR = 2.65, IC: 1.59–4.4; P < 0.01). The geographic analysis pointed the area with nosocomial risk (bedroom without water, nearness of nurse office and games room).Conclusion. – Geographic information system is a part of the quality control system and may have some interaction effect on final decision making. Introduction. – Hyperuricemia is a known consequence of glucose-6-phosphatase deficiency. Very few cases of tophaceous gout revealing a glycogen storage disease type 1a have been described.Case report. – A 17 years-old adolescent presents with tophaceous gout of Achilles’ right heel. The diagnosis of glycogen storage disease type 1a is suggested by blood chemical studies ( hyperlactacidemia, hypercholesterolemia) and confirmed by hepatic enzyme dosage. Mutation analysis reveals a novel mutation. Both the index case and his sister are compound heterozygotes for the mutations R83C/M5R.Conclusion. – When a mutation in the glucose-6-phosphatase gene is discovered, be it a homozygous or heterozygous mutation and when associated with evocative symptoms, then the diagnosis of glycogen storage disease type 1a can be made without hepatic biopsies. Organic nanocrystals of N-4-nitrophenyl-l-prolinol (NPP) have been grown in sol–gel matrices prepared from silicon alkoxide precursors. Our process is based on the control of the nucleation and growth kinetics of the dye in the pores of dense gels. Nanocomposites gel–glasses are obtained with a high optical quality due to the small size of the nanocrystals (10–20 nm). Differential scanning calorimetry experiments evidenced clearly the melting point of NPP nanocrystals, which is registered 51°C above that of NPP powder. Micro-Raman and solid state NMR spectroscopies allowed us to demonstrate that our nanocrystallization process does not chemically modify NPP molecules. We specified also the nature of interactions existing between the NPP nanocrystals and the xerogels. These strong interactions, which explain the important increase of the melting point of the nanocrystals in comparison to the NPP powder, are hydrogen bonds between nitro groups of NPP and uncondensed silanol functions of the silicate network. To investigate and describe the variation in enamel daily secretion rates (DSRs) of naturally exfoliated deciduous molars (n = 345) from five modern-day populations (Aotearoa New Zealand, Britain, Canada, France, and Sweden). Each tooth was thin sectioned and examined using a high-powered Olympus BX51 microscope and DP25 digital microscope camera. Mean DSRs were recorded for the inner, mid, and outer regions of cuspal and lateral enamel, excluding enamel nearest the enamel-dentin junction and at the outermost crown surface. Mean DSRs did not vary significantly between populations, or by sex. Cuspal enamel grew slightly faster than lateral enamel (mean difference 0.16 µm per day; p < 0.001). The trajectory of DSRs remained relatively constant from inner to outer cuspal enamel and increased slightly in lateral enamel (p = 0.003). The DSRs of deciduous molars from modern-day children are remarkably consistent when compared among populations. While growth rates are faster in cuspal than lateral enamel, the trajectory of enamel formation changes only slightly from inner to outer regions. The trajectory of DSRs for deciduous molars differs to that of permanent molar enamel, which typically display a steep increase in matrix deposition from inner to outer enamel. • Daily secretion rates (DSR) reported for deciduous molars from global sample. • Deciduous molar enamel DSRs show limited variation between populations. • Deciduous molars show minor increase in DSRs from inner to outer enamel. Pearl-farming is the second most important source of income in French Polynesia. However, tropical lagoons are fragile ecosystems with regard to anthropogenic pressures like plastic pollution, which threaten marine life and the pearl oyster-related economy. Here, we investigated the spatial distribution of microplastics (MP) and concentrations in surface water (SW), water column (WC) and cultivated pearl oyster (PO) from three pearl-farming atolls with low population and tourism. Microplastics were categorized by their size class, shape, colour and polymer type identified using FTIR spectroscopy. Widespread MP contamination was observed in every study site (SW, 0.2–8.4 MP m–3; WC, 14.0–716.2 MP m–3; PO, 2.1–125.0 MP g–1 dry weight), with high contamination in the WC highlighting the need to study the vertical distribution of MP, especially as this compartment where PO are reared. A large presence of small (< 200 µm) and fragment-shaped (> 70%) MP suggests that they result from the breakdown of larger plastic debris. The most abundant polymer type was polyethylene in SW (34–39%), WC (24–32%), while in PO, polypropylene (14–20%) and polyethylene were more evenly distributed (9–21%). The most common MP identified as black-grey polyethylene and polypropylene matches the polymer and colour of ropes and collectors questioning a pearl-farming origin. Nous rapportons un cas de pancréatite chronique chez une fillette de 12 ans présentant une mutation des gènes PRSS1 (pR116C) et SPINK1 (pN34S). Observation: A l’âge de 10 ans, une fille sans antécédents particuliers ni familiaux est hospitalisée pour une pancréatite (amylasémie 848 UI/ml, lipasémie 687 UI/ml). Le bilan étiologique y compris malformatif est négatif. Les suites sont marquées par l’apparition d’un faux kyste du pancréas résolutif sous repos digestif et alimentation parentérale. A l’âge de 12 ans survient une récidive de la pancréatite (amylasémie 1200 UI/ml, lipasémie 2175 UI/ml). La radiographie d’abdomen sans préparation met en évidence des calcifications pancréatiques. Le bilan para clinique (cholestérol, triglycéride, PTH) de même que le biliscan est normal. Une enquête génétique est réalisée et porte sur les gènes CFTR, PRSS1, SPINK1). Elle retrouve une mutation hétérozygote pR116C du géne PRSS1, une mutation pN34S du gène SPINK1. Aucune mutation du géne CFTR n’est retrouvée Discussion: Cette double mutation n’a jamais été rapportée dans les cas de pancréatite récidivante. La mutation hétérozygote pR116C exprimée par cette patiente est un variant rare, entraînant la substitution d’une arginine par une cystéine, mise en évidence dans des cas de PC sporadiques. La mutation N34S, entraîne une perte de fonction de la protéine et diminue ainsi l’inactivation du trypsinogène par SPINK1. L’étude des gènes impliqués dans les pancréatites d’origine génétique présente un grand intérêt : la mise en évidence de mutation permet en effet d’expliquer un grand nombre des pancréatites considérées jusqu’à présent comme idiopathiques et de délivrer au patient des recommandations hygiéno-diététiques, afin de limiter les facteurs de risque associés. Abstract: Extra-pulmonary tuberculosis (EPT) accounts for around 25% of cases of the disease, and around 20% in children. In Pott''s disease and other forms of bone and joint involvement (globally 10–15% of EPT cases), modern imaging techniques like MRI scan have improved diagnosis and follow-up of treatment outcomes. Tuberculous meningitis has not disappeared even in BCG vaccinated children and remains a severe form of the disease. Techniques like the polymerase chain reaction and MRI contribute to an early diagnosis and controversy persists regarding the role of corticosteroid therapy in the treatment strategy. Other localisations are rare in children, including tuberculosis of the urogenital tract, infection of the digestive tract or pericarditis. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

The WEST tokamak consists of a major upgrade of the superconducting medium size tokamak Tore Supra aiming at testing ITER divertor components. Such modification has required rebuilding a full set of magnetic diagnostics. The project was started in 2013 and completed in 2016. The diagnostic consists of a set of 469 sensors (421 pick-up coils, 36 flux loops, and 12 Rogowski coils) installed in the WEST vacuum vessel. New analog integrators have been developed in order to obtain the magnetic field and flux from the raw signal of the sensors. During the startup phase of WEST, plasma currents of the order of a few kilo amperes were measured despite much larger current of the order of hundreds of kilo amperes flowing in nearby conducting structures. The diagnostic is now fully operational and exhibits a noise level of about 0.5 mT on the magnetic field, and 2.0 mWb on flux loops allowing identifying the plasma boundary with an accuracy of a few millimeters on a 2 ms time cycle.
