Abstract: The NA62 experiment at CERN SPS recorded in 2007 a large sample of $K^+\to\mu^+\nu_\mu$ decays. A peak search in the missing mass spectrum of this decay is performed. In the absence of observed signal, the limits obtained on $\mathcal{B}(K^+\to\mu^+\nu_h)$ and on the mixing matrix element $|U_{\mu4}|^2$ are reported. The upgraded NA62 experiment started data taking in 2015, with the aim of measuring the branching fraction of the $K+\to\pi^+\nu\bar{\nu}$ decay. Abstract: The NA48/2 experiment at CERN reports the first observation of the $K^\pm \to \pi^\pm \pi^0 e^+ e^-$ decay from an exposure of $1.7 \times 10^{11}$ charged kaon decays recorded in $2003-2004$. A sample of 4919 candidates with 4.9% background contamination allows the determination of the branching ratio in the full kinematic region, BR($K^\pm \to \pi^\pm \pi^0 e^+ e^-)=(4.24 \pm 0.14)\times10^{-6}$. The study of the kinematic space shows evidence for a structure dependent contribution in agreement with predictions based on chiral perturbation theory. Abstract: The NA62 experiment at CERN SPS aims to measure the branching ratio of the ultra-rare kaon decay $K^+\to\pi^+\nu\bar{\nu}$ with 10\% precision, collecting $\sim 100$ events, assuming the Standard Model~(SM) branching ratio of $8.4 \times 10^{-11}$, starting in 2016. The NA62 experiment uses a kaon decay-in-flight technique and is exposed to a 750~MHz high-energy unseparated charged hadron beam, in which kaons are a minor component (6\%). Kaon identification is therefore mandatory to reduce the interference of the dominant non-kaon component with the experimental measurements. Abstract: The NA62 experiment at the CERN SPS reports the first search for K + → π+νν¯ using the decay-in-flight\ud technique, based on a sample of 1.21 × 1011 K + decays collected in 2016. The single event sensitivity\ud is 3.15 × 10−10, corresponding to 0.267 Standard Model events. One signal candidate is observed while\ud the expected background is 0.152 events. This leads to an upper limit of 14 × 10−10 on the K + → π+νν¯\ud branching ratio at 95% CL

Abstract: NA62 is the last generation kaon experiment at CERN SPS aiming to study the decay K + → π + ν ν ¯ . The goal of the experiment is to measure the decay branching ratio, O ( 10 − 10 ) , with 10% precision collecting about 100 K + → π + ν ν ¯ events in three years of data taking and assuming a 10% signal acceptance. The weak signal and the huge background make the experiment very challenging. The NA62 detector must be able to reject background events from decay channels with branching ratios up to 10 orders of magnitude higher than the signal one and with similar experimental signature. In order to achieve the designed goal, good Particle Identification (PID), kinematic rejection and precise timing are required. The key element of the PID in NA62 is the Ring Imaging Cherenkov detector (RICH) to identify pions and muons and to measure the particle arrival time. After a pilot run in 2014, installation and commissioning of the detector were completed in 2015, when also the first physics run took place. Results on the detector performance will be presented together with preliminary results from the 2015 and 2016 physics runs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The limits set on the branching ratio, BR($K^+ \to \pi^+ X$), are competitive with previously reported searches in the first mass range, and improve on current limits in the second mass range by more than an order of magnitude. Abstract: Journal of high energy physics 02(2), 201 (2021). doi:10.1007/JHEP02(2021)201, The NA62 experiment at the CERN SPS reports a study of a sample of $4 \times10^{9}$ tagged $\pi^0$ mesons from $K^+ \to \pi^+ \pi^0 (\gamma)$, searching for the decay of the $\pi^0$ to invisible particles. No signal is observed in excess of the expected background fluctuations. An upper limit of $4.4 \times10^{-9}$ is set on the branching ratio at 90% confidence level, improving on previous results by a factor of 60. This result can also be interpreted as a model-independent upper limit on the branching ratio for the decay $K^+ \to \pi^+ X$, where $X$ is a particle escaping detection with mass in the range 0.110-0.155 GeV$/c^2$ and rest lifetime greater than 100 ps. Model-dependent upper limits are obtained assuming $X$ to be an axion-like particle with dominant fermion couplings or a dark scalar mixing with the Standard Model Higgs boson., Published by SISSA, [Trieste]

Abstract: Abstract: A RICH prototype has been constructed and tested. The detector was cylindrical, 17m long and 60cm diameter, filled with neon gas at atmospheric pressure. A spherical mirror with 17m focal length was used and 96 photomultipliers were placed in the mirror focal plane. The prototype was exposed to a momentum negative beam derived from the CERN SPS in the 2007 fall. The performances of the detector in terms of Cherenkov angle resolution, number of photoelectrons and time resolution are presented. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: A search for heavy neutral lepton production in $K^+$ decays using a data sample collected with a minimum bias trigger by the NA62 experiment at CERN in 2015 is reported. Upper limits at the $10^{-7}$ to $10^{-6}$ level are established on the elements of the extended neutrino mixing matrix $|U_{\ell 4}|^2$ ($\ell=e,\mu$) for heavy neutral lepton mass in the range $170-448~{\rm MeV}/c^2$. This improves on the results from previous production searches in $K^+$ decays, setting more stringent limits and extending the mass range., Comment: Version accepted for publication in Phys.Lett.B (12/01/2018)

Abstract: The NA48/2 experiment at CERN collected a very large sample of charged kaon decays into multiple final states. These data allow measurements related to QCD. We obtained our final measurement of the charged kaon semileptonic decays form factors based on 4.28 million Ke3 and 2.91 million Kμ3 selected decays, with the smallest uncertainty for Ke3 and a competitive result for Kμ3 and leading to the most precise combined Kl3 result coming from the kaon sector that reduces the form factor uncertainty of/Vus/. The NA62 experiment at CERN SPS is designed to measure the branching ratio of the K+ → π+νν decay with 10% precision. K → πνν is one of the theoretically cleanest meson decay where to look for indirect effects of new physics complementary to LHC searches. NA62 took data in 2015-2017; the analysis of a partial data set allows to reach the Standard Model sensitivity. The status of the experiments will be presented.

Abstract: The NA62 experiment recorded a large sample of K+→μ+νμ decays in 2007. A peak search has been performed in the reconstructed missing mass spectrum. In the absence of a signal, limits in the range 2×10−6 to 10−5 have been set on the squared mixing matrix element |Uμ4|2 between muon and heavy neutrino states, for heavy neutrino masses in the range 300–375 MeV/ c2 . The result extends the range of masses for which upper limits have been set on the value of |Uμ4|2 in previous production search experiments.

Abstract: The NA62 experiment at CERN collected a large sample of charged kaon decays with a highly efficient trigger for decays into electrons in 2007. The kaon beam represents a source of tagged neutral pion decays in vacuum. A measurement of the electromagnetic transition form factor slope of the neutral pion in the time-like region from ∼1 million fully reconstructed π 0 Dalitz decay is presented. The limits on dark photon production in π 0 decays from the earlier kaon experiment at CERN, NA48/2, are also reported.

Abstract: The NA62 experiment collected a large sample of charged kaon decays in 2007 with a highly efficient trigger for decays into electrons. A measurement of the $\pi^0$ electromagnetic transition form factor slope parameter from $1.11\times10^{6}$ fully reconstructed $K^\pm \to \pi^\pm \pi^0_D, \pi^0_D \to e^+ e^-\gamma$ events is reported. Abstract: The NA62 experiment at CERN collected a large sample of charged kaon decays with a highly efficient trigger for decays into electrons in 2007. The kaon beam represents a source of tagged neutral pion decays in vacuum. A measurement of the electromagnetic transition form factor slope of the neutral pion in the time-like region from ∼1 million fully reconstructed π 0 Dalitz decay is presented. The limits on dark photon production in π 0 decays from the earlier kaon experiment at CERN, NA48/2, are also reported.

Abstract: Abstract: The main goal of the NA62 experiment is to measure the branching ratio of the decay, collecting O(100) events in two years of data taking. Efficient online selection of interesting events and loss-less readout at high rate will be key issues for such experiment. An integrated trigger and data acquisition system has been designed. Only the very first trigger stage will be implemented in hardware, in order to reduce the total rate for the software levels on PC farms. Abstract: The Ring Imaging Cherenkov detector of the NA62 experiment at the CERN SPS is a key element of particle identification in the NA62 experimental strategy. The detector fulfills different conditions: to distinguish pions from muons with a muon rejection factor of O(10 2) in the NA62 momentum range of operation, between 15 and 35 GeV/c; to measure particle arrival time in the decay region with a precision better than 100 ps; to provide fast signals and reference time to the NA62 trigger system. The main design aspects and functional characteristics, as well as the performance of the detector measured with the data taken in the first NA62 physics runs, will be summarized in this paper. • The NA62 experiment aims to measure the branching ratio of the K + → π + ν ν ¯ decay. • The NA62 RICH performance fulfills the experiment requirements. • Pion–muon identification is performed with a muon rejection factor of O(102). • Time resolution with precision better than 100 ps is achieved. • The RICH is a key element to select charged particles in the trigger system. Abstract: The NA62 experiment aims to measure the B R (K + → π + ν ν ̄) with a 10% precision. One of the main backgrounds comes from the decay K + → μ + ν , therefore a highly powerful pion/muon separation is needed. The NA62 RICH, together with the calorimeter system, provides an accurate particle identification which has been essential to obtain the first results of the NA62 K + → π + ν ν ̄ analysis, based on 2016 data. Two different algorithms have been exploited which, used in combination, allowed to get a pion reconstruction and identification efficiency of 75%, with a muon suppression factor of about 500, in the momentum range 15–35 GeV/c. The measurement and monitoring of basic performance parameters is discussed: ring radius resolution, ring centre resolution, single hit resolution and mean number of hits per ring. Abstract: Effects of new physics in flavor could be found both in Flavor Changing Neutral Current (FCNC) processes and in Lepton Flavor Violation (LFV) modes. The former offer the possibility to deeply test the standard model in a clean environment, while the latter are sensitive to contribution from several models beyond the standard model. In the Kaon sector both FCNC and LFV will be investigated in the NA62 experiment. In addition the kaons sector is an ideal place where to look for new particles and tiny effects, in the region of hundreds of MeV/ c 2 . In this paper prospects for exotic searches in NA62 will be presented, together with recent results from NA48/2 and NA62-RK on LFV kaon decays modes.

Abstract: The main goal of the NA62 experiment at CERN is to measure the branching ratio of the ultra-rare K+ →π+ vv decay with 10% accuracy. NA62 will use a 750 MHz high-energy un-separated charged hadron beam, with kaons corresponding to ~ 6% of the beam, and a kaon decay-in-flight technique. The positive identification of kaons is performed with a differential Cherenkov detector (CEDAR), filled with Nitrogen gas and placed in the incoming beam. To stand the kaon rate (45 MHz average) and meet the performances required in NA62, the Cherenkov detector has been upgraded (KTAG) with new photon detectors, readout, mechanics and cooling systems. The KTAG provides a fast identification of kaons with an efficiency of at least 95% and precise time information with a resolution below 100 ps. A half-equipped KTAG detector has been commissioned during a technical run at CERN in 2012, while the fully equipped detector, its readout and front-end have been commissioned during a pilot run at CERN in October 2014. The measured time resolution and efficiency are within the required performances.

Abstract: In this paper we present new results on upper limits for the search of Heavy Neutral Leptons (HNL) with data collected by NA48/2 (2003-2004), NA62-RK (2007) and NA62 (2015) CERN experiments. The data collected with different trigger configuration allow to search for both long and short living heavy neutrinos in the mass range below the kaon mass. In addition the status of the search for K+ → π+vv with the NA62 detector will be briefly presented.

Abstract: Searches for the lepton number violating K^{+}→π^{-}μ^{+}e^{+} decay and the lepton flavor violating K^{+}→π^{+}μ^{-}e^{+} and π^{0}→μ^{-}e^{+} decays are reported using data collected by the NA62 experiment at CERN in 2017-2018. No evidence for these decays is found and upper limits of the branching ratios are obtained at 90% confidence level: B(K^{+}→π^{-}μ^{+}e^{+})<4.2×10^{-11}, B(K^{+}→π^{+}μ^{-}e^{+})<6.6×10^{-11} and B(π^{0}→μ^{-}e^{+})<3.2×10^{-10}. These results improve by 1 order of magnitude over previous results for these decay modes.
