The case reported is the first description of an unusual form of Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome associating total hemihypertrophy to hemimegalencephaly and bilateral extremity enlargement. The patient complaints are related to her lower limb inequality; she presents dizziness, tinnitus and nystagmus which could be unusual consequences of hemimegalencephaly, disclosed at the EEG. Angiodysplasia is mild in regard to the hypertrophy whose cause is discussed.

We report a new case of primary linitis plastica of the rectum in a 32-year-old man. The diagnosis was made two months after the onset of clinical symptoms. Computerized tomography was helpful in the evaluation of the locoregional extension of the tumour. Despite intensive therapy (i. e. surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy) peritoneal carcinomatosis developed and death occurred fifteen months after diagnosis. As it has been emphasized in the literature which was reviewed extensively (less than eighty cases), this report confirms the very poor outcome of this disease.

The reason why late degenerative arthritis developed in some patients who had sustained displaced bimalleolar fractures of the ankle was investigated. The roentgenograms indicated that incomplete reduction of the lateral malleolus and a residual talar tilt were present. When bimalleolar fractures were created in cadavera the talus could be anatomically repositioned only when the lateral malleolus was accurately reduced. Fifty-three patients with bimalleolar fractures were treated by anatomically fixing the lateral malleolus with a four-hole plate. There was an anatomical reduction of the talus and medial malleolus in each instance and there were no late cases of degenerative arthritis when these patients were followed for from six months to nine years. We concluded that the lateral malleolus is the key to the anatomical reduction of bimalleolar fractures, because the displacement of the talus faithfully followed that of the lateral malleolus.

Gallbladder bile from patients with cholesterol stones and control patients without cholesterol stones was analysed for the relative concentrations of bile salts, phospholipids, and cholesterol. It was not possible to distinguish stone-forming from control biles when these were plotted on triangular coordinates. There was a significant increase in the dihydroxy: trihydroxy bile salt ratio in the patients with cholesterol gallstones. The maximum cholesterol holding capacity for the bile salts was determined and no difference could be detected in the ability of the bile salts from either cholesterol stone-containing and control bile samples to dissolve cholesterol.

The changes in cell nuclei in the stomata of Vicia faba were investigated using several different techniques. Illuminated stomata have rounded nuclei with homogenous chromatin, which is interpreted as functional structure. After darkening stomata contain extended nuclei with the regular chromonematic structure. It could be shown that after treatment with KCNS the nuclei are similar to that of the closed stomata and after treatment with KNO3 they are similar to that of the opened stomata.
