Oral history interview of Diana Dalluge, conducted on two dates, August 27, 2021 and September 24, 2021 by Larry Peterson at the Fargo Public Library. The interview primarily discusses Diana's late husband, Evan. Diana met Evan in 1980. Evan knew his gender at three years old, grew up on a dairy farm near Pelican Rapids, MN, married Diana in 1981, and was a nurse at the Fergus Falls Hospital. Diana adds that Evan grew up taking care of his mother and younger sister, farm work, graduating from North Dakota State School of Science with an LPN, starting medical and legal transition, contracting Hepatitis started attending NDSU, started Hormone Replacement Therapy, lost his father and first wife to suicide, worked at the Fargo VA Hospital and then the Fergus Falls State Hospital, lived in Fergus Falls for 32 years, but moved to Moorhead after bankruptcy due to medical bills. The second interview details more, including how the Dalluges opened their doors in Fergus Falls for other adults in recovery, then Diana started an in-home daycare, Evan started cleaning and driving bus, Evan's liver transplant, mounting medical bills, loss of their house, discrimination, living in a hotel, moving to their apartment, and writing a book about Evan., Digital audio; Transcripts, In November 2017, the Red River Rainbow Seniors began an oral history project, “Breaking Barriers: Harvesting LGBTQ Stories from the Northern Plains,” to gather the histories of older LGBTQ people and their allies in North Dakota and Northern Minnesota in their own words.
