The stability of virus-like particles (VLPs) is currently the main factor affecting the quality of foot-and-mouth disease VLPs vaccines. In order to further improve the quality of the VLPs vaccine of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD), three amino acid modification sites were designed and screened through kinetic analysis software, based on the three-dimensional structure of FMDV. The three mutant recombinant plasmids were successfully prepared by the point mutation kit, transformed into Escherichia coli strain BL21 and expressed in vitro. After purification by Ni ion chromatography column, SDS-PAGE proved that the three amino acid mutations did not affect the expression of the target protein. The results of the stability study of three FMD mutant VLPs obtained by in vitro assembly show that the introduction of internal hydrophobic side chain amino acids made the morphology of VLPs more uniform (N4017W), and their stability was significantly improved compared to the other two VLPs. The internal hydrophobic force of the capsid contributes to the formation of VLPs and helps to maintain the stability of the capsid, providing new experimental ideas for improving the quality of VLPs vaccines, and helping to promote the development of VLPs vaccines.

Recently, wearable and flexible pressure sensors have sparked tremendous research interest, and considerable applications including human activity monitoring, biomedical research, and artificial intelligence interaction are reported. However, the large-scale preparation of low-cost, high-sensitivity piezoresistive sensors still face huge challenges. Inspired by the specific structures and excellent metal conductivity of a family of two-dimensional (2D) transition-metal carbides and nitrides (MXene) and the high-performance sensing effect of human skin including randomly distributed microstructural receptors, we fabricate a highly sensitive MXene-based piezoresistive sensor with bioinspired microspinous microstructures formed by a simple abrasive paper stencil printing process. The obtained piezoresistive sensor shows high sensitivity (151.4 kPa -1 ), relatively short response time (<130 ms), subtle pressure detection limit of 4.4 Pa, and excellent cycle stability over 10,000 cycles. The mechanism of the high sensitivity of the sensor is dynamically revealed from the structural perspective by means of in situ electron microscopy experiment and finite element simulation. Bioinspired microspinous microstructures can effectively improve the sensitivity of the pressure sensor and the limit of the detectable subtle pressure. In practice, the sensor shows great performance in monitoring human physiological signals, detecting quantitatively pressure distributions, and remote monitoring of intelligent robot motion in real time.

Self-powered devices are widely used in the detection and sensing fields. Asymmetric metal contacts provide an effective way to obtain self-powered devices. Finding two stable metallic electrode materials with large work function differences is the key to obtain highly efficient asymmetric metal contacts structures. However, common metal electrode materials have similar and high work functions, making it difficult to form an asymmetric contacts structure with a large work function difference. Herein, Mo 2 C crystals with low work function (3.8 eV) was obtained by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method. The large work function difference between Mo 2 C and Au allowed us to synthesize an efficient Mo 2 C/MoS 2 /Au photodetector with asymmetric metal contact structure, which enables light detection without external electric power. We believe that this novel device provides a new direction for the design of miniature self-powered photodetectors. These results also highlight the great potential of ultrathin Mo 2 C prepared by CVD in heterojunction device applications.

Recent developments of self-powered devices and systems have attracted much attention. Lead zirconate titanate (PZT) has been regarded as one of the most promising materials for building high-performance nanogenerators. Herein, vertically aligned PZT nanorod arrays were synthesized on a pre-oxidized Ti substrate in the presence of a surfactant by a one-step hydrothermal method. The PZT nanorod arrays consist of an initial layer of a PZT film and well aligned nanorods with (001)-orientated tetragonal single crystalline structures. The PZT nanorods exhibited a high piezoelectric response with a d 33 value of up to 1600 pm V -1 . A piezoelectric energy harvester was fabricated based on the PZT nanorod arrays, which exhibited outstanding energy harvesting performance with an open-circuit output voltage of 3.3 V and 8 V when the devices were pressed by a compressive 10 N force and a finger tapping motion, respectively. Monolayer MoS 2 is considered to be one of the best candidates for next generation electronics because of its ultra-thin body and direct band gap. However, MoS 2 based transistors have relatively low photoresponsivity, field effect mobility and narrow response spectrum range, which hinder the application of MoS 2 in optoelectronic devices. Here, based on the enhancement of localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR), a simple method of depositing Ag nanoparticles on the MoS 2 surface is used. By adjusting the size of Ag nanoparticles, the response spectral range of phototransistor is broadened from red to near ultra-violet. The photoresponsivity gains an increase of 470% up to 2.97 × 10 4 A W -1 at 610 nm, and the response time also shows a decrease to some extent. The enhanced responsivity is comparable to those of devices encapsulated with high-quality dielectrics, and superior over other reported monolayer MoS 2 in ambient conditions. The high responsivity and working current enables a wide range of device applications. This work provides a viable route towards performance enhancement of two-dimensional phototransistors.

Copper oxide nanocrystals decorated on multi-wall carbon nanotubes have been prepared. Comprehensive morphological, structural and spectroscopical studies have been carried out on the nanometre/atomic scale by the combination of high-resolution transmission electron microscopy and electron energy-loss near-edge structure in electron energy-loss spectroscopy, which has a high spatially resolved capacity advantage over the normally used analytical techniques such as x-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The result reveals that highly crystalline cubic Cu(2)O nanocrystals with highly uniform dispersion, homogeneous size of about 5.3 nm and nearly spherical morphology are synthesized as the predominant phase, while rare individual monoclinic CuO nanocrystals with irregular shape are still present as the minor phase. The analysis based on the survey result and the structural symmetry difference between Cu(2)O and CuO demonstrates that XRD underestimates the presence of the CuO phase with much lower structural symmetry while XPS overestimates the proportion of CuO phase.

Nanobelts of nickel hydroxyl sulfate have been prepared on a large scale via a simple template-free hydrothermal reaction on the basis of a complex [Ni(NH(3))(6)](2+) formed with Ni(2+) and ammonia in an ethanol-water solution. The as-synthesized nanobelts were single crystals, with several tens of microns in length and 50-150 nm in width. The nanobelts were enclosed by top surfaces (100) and side surfaces (001) and their growth direction was parallel to [010]. The function of aqueous ammonia and ethanol was discussed. Furthermore, nanostructures of a mixture of crystralline NiO and amorphous nickel sulfate with various morphologies, such as nanobelts, porous nanobelts, and nanoparticles, were obtained by the thermal treatment of the as-synthesized Ni(SO(4))(0.3)(OH)(1.4) nanobelts at different temperatures.
