The replacement of methane with carbon dioxide in natural gas hydrate-bearing sediments is considered a promising technology for simultaneously recovering natural gas and entrapping CO2. During the CH4-CO2 replacement process, the variations of geophysical property of the hydrate reservoir need to be adequately known. Since the acoustic wave velocity is an important geophysical property, in this work, the variations of P-wave velocity of hydrate-bearing sediments were measured during different CH4-CO2 replacement processes using pure gaseous CO2 and CO2/N2 gas mixtures. Our experimental results show that P-wave velocity continually decreased during all replacement processes. Compared with injecting pure gaseous CO2, injection of CO2/N2 mixture can promote the replacement process, however, it is found that the sediment experiences a loss of stiffness during the replacement process, especially when using CO2/N2 gas mixtures. This study examines an analog circuit comprising a multilayer perceptron neural network (MLPNN). This study proposes a low-power and small-area analog MLP circuit to implement in an E-nose as a classifier, such that the E-nose would be relatively small, power-efficient, and portable. The analog MLP circuit had only four input neurons, four hidden neurons, and one output neuron. The circuit was designed and fabricated using a 0.18 µm standard CMOS process with a 1.8 V supply. The power consumption was 0.553 mW, and the area was approximately 1.36 × 1.36 mm². The chip measurements showed that this MLPNN successfully identified the fruit odors of bananas, lemons, and lychees with 91.7% accuracy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, we have developed a prototype of a portable electronic nose (E-Nose) comprising a sensor array of eight commercially available sensors, a data acquisition interface PCB, and a microprocessor. Verification software was developed to verify system functions. Short pulsed laser-induced single acoustic wave generation, propagation, interaction within a water-filled internal channel are experimentally and numerically studied. A large-area, short-duration, single-plane acoustic wave was generated by the thermoelastic interaction of a homogenized nanosecond pulsed laser beam with a liquid–solid interface and propagated at the speed of sound in water. Laser flash Schlieren photography was used to visualize the transient interaction of the plane acoustic wave in various internal channel structures ((a) sudden expansion and contraction channels, (b) bifurcating channels, (c) gradual contraction wall channels and (d) a cylinder). Interleukin-7 receptor (IL-7R) is genetically associated with susceptibility to multiple sclerosis. Here we describe that IL-7 is essential for survival and expansion of pathogenic T helper type 17 (TH17) cells in experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE). IL-7 directly expanded effector TH17 cells in EAE and human TH17 cells from subjects with multiple sclerosis, whereas it was not required for TH17 differentiation. IL-7R antagonism rendered differentiated TH17 cells susceptible to apoptosis through the inhibition of Janus kinase–signal transducer and activator of transcription-5 (JAK-STAT5) pathway and altered expression of the prosurvival protein Bcl-2 and the proapoptotic protein Bax, leading to decreased severity of EAE. In contrast, TH1 and regulatory T (Treg) cells were less susceptible to or not affected by IL-7R antagonism in vivo. The selectivity was attributable to minimal expression of IL-7Rα in Treg cells and correlated with a high level of Socs1 (encoding suppressor of cytokine signaling-1) expression in TH1 cells. Nanoparticle solutions are considered promising for realizing low cost printable high performance flexible electronics. In this letter, excimer laser annealing (ELA) was employed to induce melting of solution-deposited ZnO nanoparticles and form electrically conductive porous films. The properties of the films were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, DC conductance, and photoluminescence measurements. Thin-film field-effect transistors have been fabricated by ELA without the use of conventional vacuum or any high temperature thermal annealing processes. The transistors show n-type accumulation mode behavior with mobility greater than 0.1 cm2/V s and current on/off ratios of more than 104. Optimization and control of the laser processing parameters minimized thermal impact on the substrate. This technique can be beneficial in the fabrication of metal oxide based electronics on heat sensitive flexible plastic substrates using low-cost, large-area solution processing combined with direct printing techniques. The chemokine receptor CXCR4-mediated signaling cascades play an important role in cell proliferation and migration, but the underlying mechanisms by which the receptor signaling is regulated remain incompletely understood. Here, we demonstrate that CXCR4 was co-immunoprecipitated with cyclophilin A (CyPA) from the lysate of HEK293 cells stably expressing CXCR4. Although both the glutathione S-transferase-CXCR4 N- and C-terminal fusion proteins were associated with the purified CyPA, truncation of the C-terminal domain of CXCR4 robustly inhibited the receptor co-immunoprecipitation with CyPA in intact cells, thereby suggesting a critical role of the receptor C terminus in this interaction. Ligand stimulation of CXCR4 induced CyPA phosphorylation and nuclear translocation, both of which were inhibited by truncation of the C-terminal domain of CXCR4. CyPA was associated with transportin 1, and knockdown of transportin 1 by RNA interference (RNAi) blocked CXCL 12-induced nuclear translocation of CyPA, thereby suggesting a transportin 1-mediated nuclear import of CyPA. CyPA formed a complex with heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein (hnRNP) A2, which underwent nuclear export in response to activation of CXCR4. Interestingly, the CXCR4-mediated nuclear export of hnRNP A2 was blocked by RNAi of CyPA. Moreover, CXCR4-evoked activation of extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2 (ERK1/2) was attenuated by CyPA RNAi, by overexpression of a PPIase-deficient mutant of CyPA (CyPA-R55A), and by pretreatment of the immunosuppressive drugs, cyclosponne A and sanglifehnn A. CXC chemokine receptor 4 (CXCR4) plays a role in the development of immune and central nervous systems as well as in cancer growth and metastasis. CXCR4-initiated signaling cascades leading to cell proliferation and chemotaxis are critical for these functions. The present study demonstrated that stimulation of CXCR4 by its ligand, CXCL12, induced transient translocation of cortactin from endosomal compartments to the cell periphery where it colocalized with CXCR4 followed by internalization of CXCR4 together with cortactin into endosomes. Cortactin was co-immunoprecipitated with CXCR4 in response to CXCL12 treatment in a time-dependent manner. Ligand stimulation induced phosphorylation of cortactin at tyrosine 421, and the phosphorylation was both c-Src- and dynamin-dependent. Cortactin overexpression promoted CXCR4 internalization and recycling. However, overexpression of a cortactin mutant in which tyrosine 421 was replaced with alanine (cortactin-Y421A) or knockdown of cortactin with RNA interference (RNAi) reduced CXCR4 inter- nalization in response to CXCL12. CXCR4-mediated activation of extracellular signal-regulated kinases land 2 was significantly pro- longed by overexpression of wild-type cortactin but not by the cortactin-Y421A mutant and was inhibited by cortactin knock-down with RNAi. Moreover, CXCL12-induced chemotaxis was enhanced by cortactin overexpression, reduced by overexpression of the cortactin-Y421A mutant, and blocked by cortactin knock-down with RNAi. The quality and efficiency of laser-aided direct metal deposition largely depends on the powder stream structure below the nozzle. Numerical modeling of the powder concentration distribution is complex due to the complex phenomena involved in the two-phase turbulence flow. In this papers, the gravity-driven powder flow is studied along with powder properties, nozzle geometries, and shielding gas settings. A 3-D numerical model is introduced to quantitatively predict the powder stream concentration variation in order to facilitate coaxial nozzle design optimizations. Effects of outer shielding gas directions, inner/outer shielding gas flow rate, powder passage directions, and opening width on the structure of the powder stream are systematically studied. An experimental setup is designed to quantitatively measure the particle concentration directly for this process. The numerical simulation results are compared with the experimental data using prototyped coaxial nozzles. The results are found to match and then validate the simulation. Targeting lineage-defined transcriptional dependencies has emerged as an effective therapeutic strategy in cancer treatment. Through screening for molecular vulnerabilities of mantle cell lymphoma (MCL), we identified a set of transcription factors (TFs) including FOXO1, EBF1, PAX5, and IRF4 that are essential for MCL propagation. Integrated chromatin immunoprecipitation and sequencing (ChIP-Seq) with transcriptional network reconstruction analysis revealed FOXO1 as a master regulator that acts upstream in the regulatory TF hierarchy. FOXO1 is both necessary and sufficient to drive MCL lineage commitment through supporting the lineage-specific transcription programs. We further show that FOXO1, but not its close paralog FOXO3, can reprogram myeloid leukemia cells and induce B-lineage gene expression. Finally, we demonstrate that cpd10, a small molecule identified from an enriched FOXO1 inhibitor library, induces a robust cytotoxic response in MCL cells in vitro and suppresses MCL progression in vivo. We report a rapid and low temperature process for fabricating composite TiO2 electrodes for dye-sensitized solar cells on glass and plastics by in tandem spray deposition and laser annealing. A homogenized KrF excimer laser beam (248 nm) was used to layer-by-layer anneal spray deposited TiO2 nanoparticles. The produced TiO2 film is crack free and contains small particles (30 nm) mixed with different fractions of larger particles (100–200 nm) controlled by the applied laser fluence. Laser annealed double-layered structure is demonstrated for both doctor-blade deposited and spray-deposited electrodes and performance enhancement can be observed. The highest demonstrated all-laser-annealed cells utilizing ruthenium dye and liquid electrolyte showed power conversion efficiency of ∼3.8% under simulated illumination of 100 mW/cm2. All-solution processed, low-temperature zinc oxide nanowire network transistor fabrication on a polymer substrate was demonstrated. This simple process can produce high resolution metal electrode transistors with inorganic semiconductor nanowire active material in a fully maskless sequence, eliminating the need for lithographic and vacuum processes. In CaFe2As2, superconductivity can be achieved by applying a modest c-axis pressure of several kbar. Here we use scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy (STM/S) to explore the STM tip pressure effect on single crystals of CaFe2As2. When performing STM/S measurements, the tip-sample interaction can be controlled to act repulsive with reduction of the junction resistance, thus to apply a tip pressure on the sample. We find that an incoherent energy gap emerges at the Fermi level in the differential conductance spectrum when the tip pressure is increased. This energy gap is of the similar order of magnitude as the superconducting gap in the chemical doped compound Ca0.4Na0.6Fe2As2 and disappears at the temperature well below that of the bulk magnetic ordering. Moreover, we also observe the rhombic distortion of the As lattice, which agrees with the orthorhombic distortion of the underlying Fe lattice. These findings suggest that the STM tip pressure can induce the local Cooper pairing in the orthorhombic phase of CaFe2As2. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

All-printed electronics is the key technology to ultra-low-cost, large-area electronics. As a critical step in this direction, we demonstrate that laser sintering of inkjet-printed metal nanoparticles enables low-temperature metal deposition as well as high-resolution patterning to overcome the resolution limitation of the current inkjet direct writing processes. To demonstrate this process combined with the implementation of air-stable carboxylate-functionalized polythiophenes, high-resolution organic transistors were fabricated in ambient pressure and room temperature without utilizing any photolithographic steps or requiring a vacuum deposition process. Local thermal control of the laser sintering process could minimize the heat-affected zone and the thermal damage to the substrate and further enhance the resolution of the process. This local nanoparticle deposition and energy coupling enable an environmentally friendly and cost-effective process as well as a low-temperature manufacturing sequence to realize large-area, flexible electronics on polymer substrates. Background25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D], the major form of vitamin D in the body, has a non-linear association with stroke risk. However, the association is not fully understood. The specific shape of the association and the ideal value of 25(OH)D related to minimum risk of stroke remain unclear.AimWe conducted the study to establish the correlation between circulating 25(OH)D and stroke history and determine the ideal value of 25(OH)D in relation to the lowest stroke prevalence.MethodsData from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) were used for analyzes. We used multivariate logistic regression analysis with fitted smooth curves to explore the relationship between 25(OH)D and self-reported stroke history. Subsequently, 40,632 participants were enrolled in the study.ResultsA reverse J-shaped association between 25(OH)D and stroke history was determined, where the lowest stroke prevalence for the 25(OH)D level was about 60 nmol/L. After adjusting for confounding factors, prevalence of stroke showed an increasing trend below and above the middle quintile (53.2–65.4 nmol/L) of 25(OH)D. Participants with 25(OH)D levels in the lowest quintile (≤ 39.3 nmol/L) had a 38% increased prevalence of stroke (OR 1.38, 95 %CI 1.12–1.70), while those in the higher level range of 25(OH)D (65.5–80.8 nmol/L) had a 27% higher stroke prevalence (OR 1.27, 95 %CI 1.03–1.57).ConclusionUsing data from a large, cross-sectional cohort program, we found that circulating 25(OH)D was related to stroke history in a reverse J-shaped manner. Given how the causal relationship between circulating 25(OH)D and history of stroke has not been established, more high-quality evidence based on the reverse J-shaped feature is needed to elucidate the link between vitamin D and stroke risk, and the effect of vitamin D supplements on stroke prevention.

Abstract: In this paper, the one-step synthesis of enantiomerically pure cyclic carbonates has been developed by electrolyzing the chiral epoxides and CO2 (0.1MPa, rt) in an undivided cell with a 316 stainless steel (SS) cathode and a Mg sacrificial anode containing TEAI–MeCN as supporting electrolyte and solvent with a constant current. To deeply understand this reaction, the effects of various synthesis conditions were investigated using R-styrene oxide as the model compound. Under the optimized conditions, the maximum conversion is 67% with 96% selectivity and 98.8% ee value for R-styrene carbonate. Finally, the reaction mechanism has been proposed by comparative electrolysis and DFT calculation. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Excavation damage zones that occur around tunnels usually lead to a change in rock permeability, which has an impact on the water inflow into tunnels and even induces water inrush disasters. For a better understanding of the effect of the excavation damage zone, analytical solutions that consider the excavation damage zone are developed based on the review and modification of the solutions that consider linings and grouting circles. Then, both analytical solutions and the finite element method are applied to estimate the water inflow, and the results are in good agreement. The effect of the excavation damage zone on water inflow is analyzed based on an impact factor of the excavation damage zone and evaluated in a real engineering case, and the seepage-preventing effects of grouting are discussed. The results reveal that the water inflow increases with increasing permeability and thickness of the excavation damage zone and that there is a limit for the effects of the excavation damage zone. In addition, the effect is stronger for underwater tunnels with small water inflows and stabilizes gradually as the magnitude of water inflow increases. The increase in the impermeability and thickness of the lining and grouting circle can reduce the effect.

BACKGROUND:Clonorchiasis, one of the most important food-borne trematodiases, affects more than 12 million people in the People's Republic of China (P.R. China). Spatially explicit risk estimates of Clonorchis sinensis infection are needed in order to target control interventions. METHODOLOGY:Georeferenced survey data pertaining to infection prevalence of C. sinensis in P.R. China from 2000 onwards were obtained via a systematic review in PubMed, ISI Web of Science, Chinese National Knowledge Internet, and Wanfang Data from January 1, 2000 until January 10, 2016, with no restriction of language or study design. Additional disease data were provided by the National Institute of Parasitic Diseases, Chinese Center for Diseases Control and Prevention in Shanghai. Environmental and socioeconomic proxies were extracted from remote-sensing and other data sources. Bayesian variable selection was carried out to identify the most important predictors of C. sinensis risk. Geostatistical models were applied to quantify the association between infection risk and the predictors of the disease, and to predict the risk of infection across P.R. China at high spatial resolution (over a grid with grid cell size of 5×5 km). PRINCIPAL FINDINGS:We obtained clonorchiasis survey data at 633 unique locations in P.R. China. We observed that the risk of C. sinensis infection increased over time, particularly from 2005 onwards. We estimate that around 14.8 million (95% Bayesian credible interval 13.8-15.8 million) people in P.R. China were infected with C. sinensis in 2010. Highly endemic areas (≥ 20%) were concentrated in southern and northeastern parts of the country. The provinces with the highest risk of infection and the largest number of infected people were Guangdong, Guangxi, and Heilongjiang. CONCLUSIONS/SIGNIFICANCE:Our results provide spatially relevant information for guiding clonorchiasis control interventions in P.R. China. The trend toward higher risk of C. sinensis infection in the recent past urges the Chinese government to pay more attention to the public health importance of clonorchiasis and to target interventions to high-risk areas.

A novel Pt-NP@NCNF@CC composite was prepared by the electrospinning technique. It is a highly efficient and binder-free catalyst for the direct reduction and carboxylation of CO2 with halides. Formate with 91% Faradaic efficiency and 2-phenylpropionic acid with 99% yield could be obtained, respectively. Moreover, this catalyst has excellent stability and reusability.
