Asphalt mixtures and cement concrete are an important material in the construction of roads, highways and buildings, and there has been a lot of research about the improvement of their performance. Among them, fibers are commonly used in the construction industry because of their superior properties as reinforcing materials that can provide a proper interfacial action between the fibers and the substrate. This review classifies fibers into natural fibers, inorganic fibers and polymer fibers according to their sources and properties. It summarizes and compares the characteristics, modification methods, usage requirements and research status of each type of fiber in asphalt and cement construction materials, and analyzes the problems and challenges faced by fibers in their applications. The evaluation results show that various types of fibers can enhance the fracture resistance, tensile strength and rutting resistance of asphalt to a certain extent, improve the high temperature performance and viscoelasticity of asphalt, and have a certain effect on the fatigue resistance and road water resistance of asphalt mixes. The fibers also provide better tensile, compressive and abrasion resistance to cement concrete and improve the brittleness and crack resistance of ordinary cement. Besides, for some defects of various types of fibers in construction materials, such as biodegradability, dispersibility and surface inertness of fibers, the targeted modification of fibers is introduced based on physical and chemical modification methods to improve the performance impact of modified fibers in various conditions of application.

This article presents a description of the properties of basalt fibers and polymer composites containing basalt fibers. Basalt fibers are seen as a potentially beneficial component in composite development, especially for vehicles in transport applications. The article also presents the results of the mechanical properties investigation of the glass-epoxy and basalt-epoxy composites. The composites for testing were prepared using the popular hand lay-up method. The samples were cut from prepared plates using abrasive water jet methods. The obtained samples were tested to evaluate their flexural strength and interlaminar sharing strength. The achieved mechanical properties were compared.

New barley products can be developed by modifying the content of bioactive components in the grain through breeding, as well as improving its quality at lower fertilizer costs. We aimed to study the effects of the genotype, growth conditions, and top-dressing application of nitrogen and organo-mineral fertilizers on the chemical composition of barley grain. The barley varieties Novichok, Rodnik Prikamya, and Pamyaty Rodinoy were grown under normal (2020) and dry (2021) field conditions. The plants were top-dressed with mineral (CAS; SpetsKhimAgro, Kirovo-Chepetsk, Russia) or organo-mineral (Amino Start and Alfastim; Polydon® Agro, Moscow, Russia) fertilizers in the tillering or heading phases. The contents of protein, starch, fat, and crude fiber in the grain were analyzed with an INFRAMATIC 8620 instrument (Perten Instruments, Stockholm, Sweden). The CAS fertilizer reduced protein, fat, and fiber by 4.5–8.3% (Novichok) during the drought and increased starch by 2.1% (Novichok), fiber by 14.2% (Rodnik Prikamya), and fat by 18.9% (Pamyaty Rodinoy) under normal humidity. Amino Start applied under normal conditions increased starch by 2.9% and reduced protein and fat by 7.8–8.9% in Rodnik Prikamya, as well as increased protein and fat by 14.4 and 6.3%, respectively, but reduced starch by 5.1% in Pamyaty Rodinoy. Alfastim applied under normal conditions reduced the content of protein by 10.7% (Rodnik Prikamya), but increased it by 3.6–7.2% in the other cultivars. It also increased fiber by 22.8% in Rodnik Prikamya, but decreased it by 18.6% in Pamyaty Rodinoy. Finally, this fertilizer decreased fat by 12.7% in Rodnik Prikamya, but increased it by 9.8% in Pamyaty Rodinoy. In the drought, the fertilizers Alfastim and Amino Start increased the protein content by 5.2–12.2% in Rodnik Prikamya and Pamyaty Rodinoy. Top-dressing barley plants with mineral or organo-mineral fertilizers can modify the grain composition (up to 10.4% of fiber, 3.6% of starch, and 7.5% of protein and fat), depending on the consumer’s requirements.

Date palm (Phoenix dactylifera L.) has gained increment in cultivation worldwide. An increase in cultivation has a direct and profound effect on date seed waste generation. This study aims to highlight the valorization potential of date seed waste by studying the fiber, sugar, and color profiles of 18 date seed varieties. The indigestibility of neutral detergent fiber (NDF) is higher among all varieties with a spectrum ranging from 37.70 ± 1.96 g to 49.22 ± 2.26 g. A similar trend was observed for the digested acid detergent fiber (ADF) analysis. However, lignin and hemicellulose values were found to be as low as 2.55 ± 1.27 g and 16.97 ± 0.53 g respectively. Color analysis was comparative alongside date paste of the same 18 varieties. The results depicted similar results with lightness (L) for both date seeds and paste. However, in comparison date seeds were more inclined towards the redness and yellowness spectrum. Sugar profile varied with each variety.

Abstract In recent years, the development of functional foods targeting gastrointestinal disorders has been in progress. Partially hydrolyzed guar gum (PHGG), which is a water‐soluble dietary fiber, is known to have a constipation‐improving effect. However, many aspects of the mechanism remain unclear. In this study, we investigated the role of aquaporin‐3 (AQP3), which regulates the water content of feces in ameliorative effect of PHGG on constipation. Rats were allowed to freely consume a normal diet or a diet containing 5% PHGG for 14 days, and defecation parameters were measured. We also analyzed the expression levels of genes involved in water transport in the colon. The defecation frequency and volume of rats treated with PHGG were not different from those from the control group, but the fecal water content was significantly increased, and soft stools were observed. The expressions of claudin‐1, tight junction protein‐1, and cadherin‐1, which are involved in tight junctions or adherens junctions, were almost the same in the PHGG‐treated group and the control group. The expression level of AQP3 in the colon was significantly decreased in the PHGG‐treated group. In this study, PHGG decreased the colonic AQP3 expression, thereby suppressing water transport from the luminal side to the vascular side and improving constipation.

Abstract Fiber components form the standard not only in modern telecommunication but also for future quantum information technology. For high-performance single-photon detection, superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors (SPDs) are typically fabricated on a silicon chip and fiber-coupled for easy handling and usage. The fiber-to-chip interface hinders the SPD from being an all-fiber device for full utilization of its excellent performance. Here, we report a scheme of SPD that is directly fabricated on the fiber tip. A bury-and-planar fabrication technique is developed to improve the roughness of the substrate for all-fiber detectors’ performance for single-photon detection with amorphous molybdenum silicide (MoSi) nanowires. The low material selectivity and universal planar process enable fabrication and packaging on a large scale. Such a detector responds to a broad wavelength range from 405 nm to 1550 nm at a dark count rate of 100 cps. The relaxation time of the response pulse is ~ 15 ns, which is comparable to that of on-chip SPDs. Therefore, this device is free from fiber-to-chip coupling and easy packaging for all-fiber quantum information systems.

Cement-based composites have various advantages such as low cost, easy shaping, and high compressive strength. Therefore, they are widely used in the construction industry. However, their brittle structure makes them prone to cracking, which must be repaired promptly to avoid possible loss of strength and durability and ultimate structural failures. Microbially-induced calcite precipitation (MICP) offers an effective method for healing these cracks. Unlike other treatments, MICP method is a natural and environment-friendly option for self-healing of cracks. However, bacteria can be damaged by cement and mechanical impacts; therefore, encapsulation is necessary to protect them. Encapsulation in fibres is a simpler and more cost-effective method than the other techniques. This study tested the effectiveness of encapsulating Bacillus megaterium spores in jute fibres and added them to cement-based mortars. Different nutrient supplements were used, and physical analyses and compressive strength tests were conducted on 28-day cured cube specimens. Present findings revealed that Bacillus megaterium-type bacteria encapsulated in jute fibres improved the compressive strength recovery and healed the loading-induced cracks.

In order to promote energy conservation and facilitate the utilization of solid wastes, red mud, coal metakaolin, and alkaline activators were used as main raw materials to prepare red mud-coal metakaolin based geopolymer (RCG). The effects of glass fiber, basalt fiber, polypropylene fiber, and polyvinyl alcohol fiber on the compressive strength, peak strain, elastic modulus, compressive toughness, energy absorption, flexural strength, and microstructure of RCG were investigated. The toughening mechanism of four kinds of fiber on RCG was expounded, and the results indicate that incorporation of fibers can enhance the mechanical properties of RCG and improve its toughness and ductility. Among them, basalt fibers and polyvinyl alcohol fibers have similar effects on strength enhancement, but polyvinyl alcohol fibers can effectively change the brittle failure modes of RCG and enhance the compression toughness and energy absorption capacity of RCG. Through microscopic morphology analyses, polyvinyl alcohol fiber has high moisture regain, and the bonding effect with the matrix was found to outperform other fibers, so the physical and mechanical properties of RCG are improved better.

In this study, the effects of calcined diatomaceous earth (CDE), polypropylene fiber (PF), and glass fiber (GF) on the mechanical properties of ultra-high-performance fiber-reinforced concrete (UHPFRC) were observed, and a total of 33 UHPFRC mixtures, consisting of 3 mixtures without fiber, 15 mixtures with PF, and 15 mixtures with GF were prepared. Subsequently, the fresh concrete mixtures were tested for flow, while the hardened concrete specimen’s mechanical properties were analyzed. These tests include compression, splitting tensile, and flexural tests. The test results showed that the use of 5 and 10% CDE as a binder for cement replacement improved the compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, and flexural strength of the UHPFRC. Furthermore, the addition of PF and GF contents of up to 1% of the concrete volume increased the compressive strength of the UHPFRC, while their contents of up to 1.5% improved their splitting tensile strength and flexural strength. It is also important to note that the workability of the UHPFRC reduced as the fiber and CDE contents increased. Finally, based on the experimental data tested in this study, the relationship between splitting tensile strength, flexural strength, and compressive strength of the UHPFRC containing PF and GF were proposed. Moreover, the reduction in flow value, which is a function of the volumetric content of both PF and GF, with the CDE contents was also proposed.

Most of the Indian black topped roads have been damaged due to adverse weather and heavy load distresses. Many researchers have focused on improving durability of Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) pavements. The factors influencing durability of HMA are Binder content, Combined aggregate gradation, type of Filler and addition of Fiber. In order to optimize the combination of variables used in HMA mix design, Grey relational analysis by using Taguchi technique is used, where many parameters can be analyzed at a time with more accuracy. Multiple performance measurements like Stability, Flow, Bulk specific gravity of the mix (Gmb), Theoretical maximum specific gravity of the mix (Gmm), Voids in Mineral Aggregate (VMA), Air voids (Va) and Voids Filled with Bitumen (VFB) are considered. Bituminous Concrete (BC) mix was optimized using L9 Orthogonal array considering four parameters such as Fiber content, Filler combination, Binder content and Combined Aggregate Gradation, with three levels having seven performance measurements. The most significant parameter and percent contribution of each parameter of BC mix are analyzed by Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) using Grey Taguchi technique. The analysis was done by considering two Gradation conditions (Coarse gradation and Fine gradation) based on voids in mix. From the analysis, it can be concluded that all parameters are significant except bitumen content for optimizing BC mix.

Bamboo cellulose fiber (BF)-reinforced epoxy (EP) composites were fabricated with BF subjected to plasma treatment using argon (Ar), oxygen (O2), and nitrogen (N2) gases. Optimal mechanical properties of the EP/BF composites were achieved with BFs subjected to 30 min of plasma treatment using Ar. This is because Ar gas improved the plasma electron density, surface polarity, and BF roughness. Flexural strength and flexural modulus increased with O2 plasma treatment. Scanning electron microscopy images showed that the etching of the fiber surface with Ar gas improved interfacial adhesion. The water contact angle and surface tension of the EP/BF composite improved after 10 min of Ar treatment, owing to the compatibility between the BFs and the EP matrix. The Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy results confirmed a reduction in lignin after treatment and the formation of new peaks at 1736 cm−1, which indicated a reaction between epoxy groups of the EP and carbon in the BF backbone. This reaction improved the compatibility, mechanical properties, and water resistance of the composites.

The concentration of microplastics (MPs) in two important Hungarian freshwater habitats was determined in the size range of 50 μm–1 mm. Lake Balaton (LB) is the largest shallow lake in Central Europe, with a significant role in recreation and tourism. Its main inflow, the Zala River, enters the lake through an artificially constructed wetland, the Kis-Balaton Water Protection System and its catchment area (KB), which helps preserve the water quality of the lake. From these two areas, 15 samples were taken with an in situ filtration sampling method. After preparation, the samples were analyzed automatically by FT-IR microscopy. All samples, from both areas, contained MPs; the dominant microplastic (MP) shape was the fragment, while the most frequently polymer types were polyethylene, polypropylene and alkyd. Small MPs were dominant in both areas; around 90% of the MPs were smaller than 500 μm. On average, LB contained more MPs (21.0 ± 12.5 MPs/m3) compared to the KB, which presented an average concentration of MPs of 7.8 ± 5.9 MPs/m3. In the examined areas, two potential MP sources were determined, i.e., treated wastewater and road traffic. The importance of tourism should also be further investigated.

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have been regarded as emerging materials in various applications. However, the range of biomedical applications is limited due to the aggregation and potential toxicity of powder-type CNTs. To overcome these issues, techniques to assemble them into various macroscopic structures, such as one-dimensional fibers, two-dimensional films, and three-dimensional aerogels, have been developed. Among them, carbon nanotube fiber (CNTF) is a one-dimensional aggregate of CNTs, which can be used to solve the potential toxicity problem of individual CNTs. Furthermore, since it has unique properties due to the one-dimensional nature of CNTs, CNTF has beneficial potential for biomedical applications. This review summarizes the biomedical applications using CNTF, such as the detection of biomolecules or signals for biosensors, strain sensors for wearable healthcare devices, and tissue engineering for regenerating human tissues. In addition, by considering the challenges and perspectives of CNTF for biomedical applications, the feasibility of CNTF in biomedical applications is discussed.

A large amount of the polypropylene (PP) produced worldwide is used in the form of fibers. In this work, a new modification route for talc and PP is investigated, which is based on the in situ polymerization of a silane–siloxane monomer mixture on the surface of talc particles or PP pellets, respectively. The obtained modified talc and PP samples were used for the development of PP-talc composite drawn fibers. Tensile tests, thermogravimetry (TGA), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) were used for the characterization of the materials. It was observed that such a modification procedure resulted in the exfoliation of some talc particles. Enhanced tensile strength was observed for composite drawn fibers of a low talc content (1% with respect to PP) and a low modifier content (2% with respect to talc), while co-aggregation of talc and silicone may occur at high silicone and talc contents, resulting in the inferior mechanical performance of the corresponding composites. It was concluded that the produced silicone polymer simultaneously acts as a modifier, antioxidant, and compatibilizer. The proposed modification route is promising and should be further optimized.

Water damage is one of the major distresses of asphalt pavements. Existing methods for investigating the water stability of asphalt mixtures rely primarily on static water test methods, the tensile strength ratio (TSR) test, and the retained Marshall stability (RMS) test, which evaluate the strength and stability loss after freeze-thaw damage or hot water immersion, respectively. However, these methods do not accurately replicate the actual dynamic water damage conditions to pavement. Therefore, in this study, a variety of damage conditions, including static water conditions and dynamic water pressure conditions, were used to investigate the effects of lignin fibers (LFs), polyester fibers (PFs), and polypropylene fibers (PPFs) on the water stability of asphalt mixtures. First, three fibers-enhanced SMA gap-gradation asphalt mixtures were designed. Then, TSR and RMS were measured under traditional static water damage conditions and new dynamic water pressure damage conditions to evaluate the effect of fiber types on the water stability of asphalt mixtures. Finally, the void rate of asphalt mixtures and its changes under dynamic water damage conditions were further revealed with the help of CT scanning technique. Results showed that, among these three types of fibers, PFs-enhanced asphalt mixture exhibited excellent stability under both static and dynamic water conditions, and the CT scanning test also indicated that the PFs can significantly reduce the increase rate of voids in asphalt mixtures after dynamic water pressure damage. This study identified the potential of incorporating suitable type of fiber to enhance the performance of asphalt mixture under dynamic water pressure damage.

Determining the mechanical properties of a composite material represents an important stage in its design and is generally a complicated operation. These values are influenced by the topology and geometry of the resulting composite and the values of the elastic constants of the components. Due to the importance of this subject and the increasing use of composite materials, different calculation methods have been developed over the last fifty years. Some of the methods are theoretical, with results that are difficult to apply in practice due to difficulties related to numerical calculation. In the current paper, using theoretical results offered by the homogenization theory, values of engineering elastic constants are obtained. The finite element method (FEM) is used to determine the stress and strain field required in these calculations; this is an extremely powerful and verified calculation tool for the case of a material with any type of structure and geometry. In order to minimize errors, the paper proposes the method of least squares, a mathematical method that provides the best estimate for the set of values obtained by calculating FEM. It is useful to consider as many load cases as possible to obtain the best estimates. The elastic constants for a transversely isotropic material (composite reinforced with cylindrical fibers) are thus determined for a real case.

The durability of concrete is critical for the service life of concrete structures, and it is influenced by various factors. This paper investigates the impact of the relative humidity (RH) of the curing environment on the durability of five different concrete types. The aim is to determine a suitable approach for designing concrete that is well-suited for use in the salt lake region of Inner Mongolia. The concrete types comprise ordinary Portland cement (OPC), high-strength expansive concrete (HSEC), high-strength expansive concrete incorporating silica fume, fly ash, and blast furnace slag (HSEC-SFB), steel fiber-reinforced high-strength expansive concrete (SFRHSEC), and high elastic modulus polyethylene fiber-reinforced high-strength expansive concrete (HFRHSEC). All these concrete types underwent a 180-day curing process at three distinct relative humidities (RH = 30%, 50%, and 95%) before being subjected to freeze–thaw cycles in the Inner Mongolia salt lake brine. The curing environment with a 95% RH is referred to as the standard condition. The experimental results reveal that the durability of OPC and HSEC decreases significantly with increasing relative humidity. In comparison with the control sample cured in 95% RH, the maximum freeze–thaw cycles for concrete cured in lower RHs are only 31% to 76% for OPC and 66% to 77% for HSEC. However, the sensitivity of the durability of HSEC-SFB, SFRHSEC, and HFRHSEC to variations in RH in the curing environment diminishes. In comparison with the corresponding reference value, the maximum freeze–thaw cycles for samples cured in dry conditions increase by 14% to 17% for HSEC-SFB and 21% for SFRHSEC. Specifically, the service life of HFRHSEC cured in a low RH is 25% to 46% higher than the reference value. The durability of HSEC-SFB, SFRHSEC, and HFRHSEC has been proven to be appropriate for structures located in the salt lake region of Inner Mongolia.

The purpose of this study was to determine the impact of the pomace drying methods (freeze-drying and convection-drying) and their percentage (0–10%) on selected physicochemical properties of gluten-free bread. The contents of nutrients (protein, fiber, fat, ash, and carbohydrates), bioactive compounds, antioxidant properties, acidity, baking efficiency, and moisture of the obtained products were determined. Fortifying the bread with raspberry pomace resulted in a change in fiber content from 18.13% d. b. (control sample) up to 19.97% d. b. (10% of freeze-dried pomace), and a change in the fat and ash content in the bread from 5.74% and 2.83% d. b. (control sample) to 7.18% and 3.12% d. b. (10% of freeze-dried pomace). The content of carbohydrates decreased after adding raspberry pomace to the bread, from 65.71% d. b. (control sample) to 63.68% d. b. (5% of freeze-dried pomace). The research carried out also showed that the introduction of 10% freeze-dried raspberry pomace increased the total polyphenol content by 81.75% and the antioxidant properties defined by the ABTS method by 159.54% and by the DPPH method by 96.43% compared to the control bread. The introduction of pomace resulted in a significant reduction in the total baking loss, from 15.1% to 10.62%, and an increase in the total titratable acidity of the crumb, from 2.13 mL NaOH/10 g d. b to 7.78 mL NaOH/10 g d. b. Principal component analysis highlighted a marked effect of the drying method and content of raspberry pomace on the quality values of gluten-free bread. This research demonstrated that raspberry pomace can be a valuable source of fiber and bioactive substances in gluten-free bread.

Nutrient-dense, acceptable foods are needed in low-resource settings. Rice bran, a global staple byproduct of white rice processing, is rich in amino acids, fibers, and vitamins, when compared to other cereal brans. This pilot study examines the nutritional contribution of rice bran to the daily diets of mother–child pairs in rural southwest Guatemala. Thirty households were screened. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of volume fraction of continuous carbon fiber and sample length on buckling characteristics of polysilicon. A statistical design of 12 samples were formulated with constant cross-section area of 2500 mm ^2 using Design of Experiment software (DOE). The samples were sketched using ABAQUS 2019 software, and the total buckling force each sample was estimated. The estimated buckling forces were statically evaluated as a response using DOE. The estimated forces of 3.48776e07, 4.00652e07 and 5.78142e07 newton for the simulated samples of 100 mm in length and 0,15, and 25% volume fraction respectively, is an indication of positive effect of fiber volume fraction on the necessary force for buckling. In addition, similar tendency was found in other samples (the higher fiber volume fractions the higher buckling force). However, the estimated buckling force for each sample was negatively affected with length of the sample. The result indicated a value of 4.00652E+07, 5.00447E+06 and 1.80390E+06 newton at a constant fiber volume fraction and different length of 100, 300 and 500 mm respectively. The statistical analysis of the simulated buckling force showed a signification design, and the date of one factor effect is highly supported by the simulated buckling forces. The equation of a significant design can be used to estimate the buckling force at any fiber volume fraction and sample length.

The most important factor in maintaining quality during cotton processing is to significantly reduce moisture content. Therefore, in order to improve the drying process of cotton raw materials, a test model of a drum drying device was created in the Laboratory of Chemical Technology Processes and Devices of the Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan. In this device, the experimental process was carried out in a drying drum with a length of 2 meters. It was studied that the normal movement of the product depends on its inclination angle ∠ and the number of rotations n. Graphs were made based on the obtained results. It was observed that the heat supplied to the raw material is uniformly distributed along the length of the device, so the loss of moisture is also uniform. It was observed during the experiment that the air temperature inside the drum was 70… 120 °C. An attempt was made to clarify these indicators on the basis of tables and graphs. We were convinced of this during the drying process of seed cotton in the experimental device. It was stated that the angle of inclination of our recommended drying drum is ∠ 6 ° and its number of rotations is n=12 rot/min.

In recent times, there has been a significant surge in interest regarding the usage of different materials to strengthen concrete. The capacity to enhance the tensile strength of concrete has made Hybrid Fiber Reinforced Concrete (HFRC) a subject of considerable interest. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of polypropylene and steel fibers on the strength of concrete. The variable parameters encompass varying proportions of steel and polypropylene fibers. A thorough experimental program, encompassing a total of 36 combinations, was executed with diverse HFRC mixtures. Based on past research, it is projected that fibers would perform better. One combination served as the control, while the other 35 combinations incorporated PPF in varying proportions (ranging from 0.2% to 1% of the cement’s mass) with an increment of 0.2%, along with steel fibers (ranging from 0.25% to 3% of the cement’s mass). Following this, split tensile strength tests (performed according to ASTM C 496) were carried out. Tensile testing was performed on specimens to observe the failure mode and tensile strength of the samples. The report ends by highlighting the research findings and outlining potential directions for additional study in this area. In conclusion, this study’s findings offer convincing evidence about the use of fibers in concrete.

Fiber-based flexible sensors have promising application potential in human motion and healthcare monitoring, owing to their merits of being lightweight, flexible, and easy to process. Now, high-performance elastic fiber-based strain sensors with high sensitivity, a large working range, and excellent durability are in great demand. Herein, we have easily and quickly prepared a highly sensitive and durable fiber-based strain sensor by dip coating a highly stretchable polyurethane (PU) elastic fiber in an MXene/waterborne polyurethane (WPU) dispersion solution. Benefiting from the electrostatic repulsion force between the negatively charged WPU and MXene sheets in the mixed solution, very homogeneous and stable MXene/WPU dispersion was successfully obtained, and the interconnected conducting networks were correspondingly formed in a coated MXene/WPU shell layer, which makes the as-prepared strain sensor exhibit a gauge factor of over 960, a large sensing range of over 90%, and a detection limit as low as 0.5% strain. As elastic fiber and mixed solution have the same polymer constitute, and tight bonding of the MXene/WPU conductive composite on PU fibers was achieved, enabling the as-prepared strain sensor to endure over 2500 stretching–releasing cycles and thus show good durability. Full-scale human motion detection was also performed by the strain sensor, and a body posture monitoring, analysis, and correction prototype system were developed via embedding the fiber-based strain sensors into sweaters, strongly indicating great application prospects in exercise, sports, and healthcare.

Extracted stevia leaves can be natural sweetener in pudding. This research aimed to obtain formulation of functional pudding with stevia leaf extract as a substitute for granulated sugar. This research used a simple randomized block design consisting of three replications. The treatments added were the proportion of sugar and stevia leaf extract, which consisted of six treatments, namely 170 g and 0 g, 136 g and 0.17 g, 102 g and 0.34 g, 68 g and 0.51 g, 34 g and 0.68 g, 0 g and 0.85 g. Variables of the tests carried out are rate fiber food, syneresis test, texture test, color test, pH test, and organoleptic test. The best treatment was pudding sugar 0 g and extract stevia leaves 0.85 g with average rate fiber 0.21 %, syneresis test 2.7167 mg min-1, gel strength 50.1 N, intensity color: brightness (L) 31.26, redness (a) 0.33, yellowish (b) 1.13, organoleptic: color 3.50 (fair), aroma 2.5 (no smell), taste 3.47 (enough delicious), texture 3.47 (enough soft), pH 7.41. Differences in the proportion of stevia leaf extract did not have a significant effect on the redness level and organoleptic variables of the pudding aroma but has a real effect on other variables, i.e rate fiber, syneresis, gel strength, brightness level, yellowish level, pH, color, taste, and texture.

Current cotton drying technology has a negative impact on product quality due to the use of high temperatures and very low energy efficiency. In the literature on the research on their elimination, information on heat generation from fuel by traditional methods and the use of drum dryers is presented, and the above problems have not been completely solved. The article presents the results of research on the possibility of reducing water vapor in cotton under the influence of infrared radiation based on functional ceramics. In this case, as a result of changing the wavelength of radiation, the full energy consumption is based on the evaporation of water in the product. As a result, it was determined that the moisture content of cotton does not have a negative effect on the quality indicators of the fiber, and the appearance of the fiber does not change. Energy efficiency is proven to be high.

This systematic review analyzed the effect of selected nutrients and additives in the feed of pregnant sows on the survival of newborn piglets. We analyzed 720 peer-reviewed publications in English in PubMed® and Web of Science®, dated July 2023 to January 2024, related to the effect of dietary supplementation with fatty acids and various percentages of protein, amino acids, and/or sources of dietary fiber on the offspring of gestating sows. While several papers evaluated the effect of nutrition on gestating sows, only a few delved into the distinct feeding strategies required at each stage of gestation to meet the NRC’s nutritional requirements for maternal tissue gain and postnatal neonatal survival and growth. This body of research suggests that as gestation progresses the sow’s nutritional requirements increase, as the NRC established, to satisfy their own metabolic needs and those of their fetuses. Additional research is needed to determine an optimal feeding strategy.
