The COVID-19 pandemic has caused radical changes in education, as in everything else, bringing many challenges. Despite all the difficulties, the COVID-19 pandemic has enormous opportunities for online teaching and the use of digital technologies. A comprehensive understanding of this period is needed to investigate these opportunities. Thus, this study aims to explore the academic staff's experiences of online teaching and the use of digital technologies in practical skills-based courses in health care education. This study was conducted at six universities from six countries (Türkiye, Sweden, Finland, Portugal, Latvia, Lithuania). Data were collected between June 17, 2021 and November 30, 2021 via a focus group with an in-depth interview technique. 22 focus group interviews were conducted with a total of 117 participants. Colaizzi's method was used to evaluate the data to discover, comprehend, and define the experiences of academic staff. The analysis of the interview data resulted in 6 themes, 25 subthemes and 56 categories that captured participants' experiences regarding online teaching of practical skills and using digital technologies in health care education. (1) Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has cost social, economic, cultural, and educational life, distressing nursing training and practice. This study aimed to map the literature on changes in clinical training for nursing students during the COVID-19 pandemic. (2) Methods: A scoping review was conducted according to JBI methodology's latest guidance. A set of relevant electronic databases and grey literature was searched to report results published in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. (3) Results: A total of 12 studies were included in the study, addressing changes in clinical training in undergraduate nursing students due to COVID-19 pandemic activity, published between 2020 and 2022. (4) Conclusions: Nursing schools made an effort to replace traditional clinical training with several activities, primarily based on simulation or virtual activities. However, contact with others is essential, and simulation programs or scenarios cannot provide it.

Noninvasive ventilation (NIV) is a technique for breathing support that significantly improves gas exchange and vital signs, reducing intubation and mortality rates. Helmets, unlike facemasks, allow for longer-term treatment and better ventilation, also being more cost-effective. As of today, we have found no reviews addressing this topic. This review aims to identify, map, and describe the characteristics of the use of noninvasive ventilation through helmet interface in critically ill COVID-19 adult patients hospitalized in acute care settings throughout the multiple moments that defined the COVID-19 pandemic. This scoping review will follow the methodology for scoping reviews proposed by JBI. A set of relevant electronic databases will be searched using terms such as COVID-19, helmet, and noninvasive ventilation. Two reviewers will independently perform the study selection regarding their eligibility. Data extraction will be accomplished using a researcher's developed tool considering the review questions. Findings will be presented in tables and a narrative description that aligns with the review's objective. This scoping review will consider any quantitative, qualitative, mixed-methods studies and systematic review designs for inclusion, focusing on the use of helmet on critically ill adult patients with COVID-19 hospitalized in acute care settings.

Burnout comprises a series of undetermined physical and psychosocial symptoms caused by an excessive energy requirement at work-it is a crisis in relationships with work itself and not necessarily a concern with underlying clinical disorders related to workers. Professions involving human interactions commonly involve emotional engagement, especially when the cared-for person needs assistance and support, as is the primary concern in the nursing profession. To some extent, the acknowledgment of the phenomena of burnout and how it affects people is sometimes addressed from a biomedical perspective. This concept paper aims to describe the burnout concept and reflect on the impact on nurses. Our intention with this reflection, considering the burnout impact on nurses, is to support a paradigm change in the prevention and management of burnout in healthcare contexts, promoting and fostering the well-being of nurses.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is the second most common neurodegenerative disease, significantly increasing in the last three decades. Worldwide, seven to ten million people are affected by PD. In people living with PD, freezing of gait (FoG) significantly impacts activities of daily living, potentially leading to falls, injuries, and loss of autonomy. FoG prevalence rates vary widely, reaching at least 50% of patients with PD. Current therapeutic options have limited effectiveness, and their complement with innovative technology-based solutions in the real world is demanded to enhance daily functioning for people living with PD. This article provides a narrative review of current technological developments for people living with PD and, derived from that evidence, presents a perspective on integrating wearable technology and IoT to support telemonitoring and self-management of people living with PD in their daily living environment. Complementing current therapeutic options with technology-based solutions in PD patients' real-world environment is crucial to enhancing the quality of life of people living with PD. Bedridden patients usually stay in bed for long periods, presenting several problems caused by immobility, leading to a long recovery process. Thus, identifying physical rehabilitation programs for bedridden patients with prolonged immobility requires urgent research. Therefore, this scoping review aimed to map existing physical rehabilitation programs for bedridden patients with prolonged immobility, the rehabilitation domains, the devices used, the parameters accessed, and the context in which these programs were performed. This scoping review, guided by the Joanna Briggs Institute's (JBI) methodology and conducted in different databases (including grey literature), identified 475 articles, of which 27 were included in this review. The observed contexts included research institutes, hospitals, rehabilitation units, nursing homes, long-term units, and palliative care units. Most of the programs were directed to the musculoskeletal domain, predominantly toward the lower limbs. The devices used included lower limb mobilization, electrical stimulation, inclined planes, and cycle ergometers. Most of the evaluated parameters were musculoskeletal, cardiorespiratory, or vital signs. The variability of the programs, domains, devices and parameters found in this scoping review revealed no uniformity, a consequence of the personalization and individualization of care, which makes the development of a standard intervention program challenging.

Objective: This review aims to continuously map the nursing knowledge about people with paresis of voluntary muscles in any context of care., Introduction: Muscle paresis is a condition that significantly impacts quality of life. Nurses have a crucial role in managing this condition, particularly paresis of voluntary movement muscles. However, nursing knowledge about patients with paresis of voluntary muscles is dispersed, hampering the integration of evidence within the structure of information systems. Mapping how the nursing process components are identified is the first step in creating a Nursing Clinical Information Model for this condition, capable of integrating evidence into information systems., Inclusion Criteria: This scoping review will consider studies focusing on the nursing process regarding people with paresis of voluntary muscles in all care contexts. The review will include quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods study designs, systematic reviews, clinical guidelines, dissertations, and theses., Methods: The review process will follow JBI's scoping review guidance, as well as the Cochrane Collaboration's guidance on living reviews. Screening of new literature will be performed regularly, with the review being updated according to new findings. The search strategy will map published and unpublished studies. The databases to be searched will include MEDLINE, CINAHL, Scopus, JBI Evidence Synthesis , and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials. Searches for unpublished studies will include OpenGrey and Repositorios Científicos de Acesso Aberto de Portugal. Oropharyngeal Dysphagia (OD) significantly decreases a patient's quality of life and poses a high economic burden to institutions. In this sense, evaluation and assessment are important interventions for health professionals, although current tools and instruments are multiple and are dispersed in the literature. The aim of this review was to map existing screening tools to assess and evaluate OD in adult patients, identify their relevant clinical parameters and respective contexts of use and provide a systematic approach and summary to better inform practice. A scoping review was developed guided by the JBI methodology and using PRISMA-ScR to report results published between 2014 and 2021, in English, Spanish and Portuguese. Databases included Medline, Academic Search Complete, CINAHL Complete, Scielo, Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, OpenGrey and B-On. Mendeley was used to store and screen data. A total of 33 studies were included in the study, of which 19 tools were identified, some being intervention-based tools and others an algorithm for decision. The most common context used was in the general population and older adults. Regarding clinical parameters, the most common were food consistency, presence of the cough reflex, swallowing effort, voice changes and weight. As oropharyngeal dysphagia concerns important risks for the patient, a rigorous assessment must be performed. In this sense, the review identified specific disease-related tools and more general instruments, and it is an important contribution to more efficient dysphagia screening and prevention.

A set of relevant electronic databases and grey literature will be searched using terms such as clinical practice, nursing students, COVID-19. Results : This scoping review will consider any type of quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods study and systematic review designs for inclusion, focusing on changes in clinical training for nursing students during the COVID-19 pandemic. Conclusion : Pedagogical criteria had to be changed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, especially face-to-face clinical training for nursing students. Identifying the changes in clinical training for nursing students during the COVID-19 pandemic will help educators to understand the potential impact of this specific context and trace possible gaps. This study targets the development of a nursing clinical data model for neuromuscular processes. To achieve this purpose, content analysis based on Bardin's perspective was performed on the Portuguese nursing local customizations regarding neuromuscular processes, with the International Classification for Nursing Practice concepts and the ISO 18104:2014 used as encoding rules. From analysis of the data, a total of 1766 diagnoses were related to neuromuscular processes. After application of exclusion criteria, a corpus with a total of 900 diagnoses was subjected to content analysis. After application of the encoding rules, a total of 81 context units were obtained, and through an inductive approach, were defined into three categories: clinical findings (e.g. aphasia); negative judgment diagnoses (e.g. impaired communication); transition properties (e.g. preparation and knowledge). These interpretations were validated by experts in the field. This study not only demonstrates the need to standardize data, but also the importance of neuromuscular processes in nursing practice. We hope this study will guide the definition of a nursing clinical data model that will help in increasing complexity in the level of care provided with high impact in the patient's quality of life.

Motivational interviewing (MI) is an approach that uses dialogue about behavioral change to encourage a constructive relationship between professionals and patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the maintenance of basic MI skills in the daily practice of dentists and oral health technicians (OHTs) after a training course and for two years of follow-up in the context of primary health care (PHC). A randomized community trial, from September 2012 to September 2014, was conducted at the Community Health Service of Conceição Hospital Group in Porto Alegre, RS, Brazil. The experimental group consisted of all 41 dentists and OHTs who received an intensive eight-hour training course in basic MI principles; the control group consisted of 31 dentists and OHTs who did not receive MI training. The follow-up assessments were at one and two years using three instruments validated for MI. In the one- and two-year follow-ups, improvement was maintained in responses with a statistically significant difference for use of open questioning, reflective listening, and total percentage of correct answers (p<0.001), with a large effect size (ES=1.12). On the Helpful Responses Questionnaire, the participants continued using open questioning and reflective listening (p<0.001), maintaining an increase in the percentage of responses compatible with MI (p<0.001). Likewise, the effect size remained large (ES=1.33) over time. These results suggest that the training course with dentists and OHTs of the PHC oral health staff was effective over the two-year follow-up in enabling them to act in the spirit and techniques of MI.

Aim: Heart failure is a chronic disease with a complex regimen treatment. Patients must have to enroll in a disease management program to engage in self-care. However, symptom recognition is a difficult step to manage by patients, as they tend to wait for the symptoms to disappear. The aim of this study is to verify if patients with heart failure can recognize early signs of the disease., Method: A systematic review will be carried out to analyze the effectiveness of patient education in detecting heart failure symptoms., Results: The systematic review will provide data to understand if patient education on heart failure symptom recognition is effective on reducing hospital admissions., Conclusions: Patients with heart failure struggle daily in balancing self-care. If not taught about what symptoms to expect, patients will sit and wait at home, resulting in severe hospital admissions. Previous systematic reviews and meta-analysis focused on associations among symptoms in individuals with heart failure, or on a multicomponent Heart failure management programs, with several teaching topics. This protocol for a new review, which will focus on symptom monitoring by patients with heart failure, and the development of this skill positively interferes with self-care and avoids hospital readmissions.

Objective: The objective of this study was to assess factors associated with the diet quality of brazilian older adults., Design: Cross-sectional study., Setting: City of Carlos Barbosa, Brazil., Participants: 228 participants aged 60 and older., Measurements: A questionnaire with questions on socioeconomic and behavioral variables and health characteristics was used. The body mass index was calculated and the waist circumference was measured to provide information in respect to abdominal fat accumulation. Dietary data were collected via 24-hour recall and the diet quality was assessed using the Healthy Eating Index, an instrument that attributes scores to the diet according to the adequacy of intake of the main food and nutrient groups. Participants were divided into three categories, according to the Healthy Eating Index scores: under 51--poor diet; between 51 and 80--diet that needs improvement; over 80--good diet. The evaluation employed the analysis of variance, t test and non-conditional logistic regression to assess the association between the Healthy Eating Index and the other variables., Results: Most participants (80.9%) presented diet that needs improvement and the marital status showed an independent association with the Healthy Eating Index--married individuals showed higher odds of presenting good diet., Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that, in general, the diet quality of this group needs improvement and that the marital status is a factor that can be considered for the development of activities to promote health and healthy food intake habits.

Purpose: to evaluate the frequency of HIV tests performed during prenatal care and rapid tests ordered for pregnant women admitted at the time of delivery., Method: this was a cross-sectional study with 711 pregnant women at delivery during the period from January to July 2010. Women admitted for clinical control and those that did not allow their clinical data to be included in the study were excluded. The χ² test or the Fisher's Exact test was used for comparison of the proportion in univariate analysis. All the variables with p<0.25 were included in the logistic regression model, called initial model. The analyses were carried out using the SPSS software, with the level of significance set at 5%., Results: the mean age of the patients was 25.77 ±6.7 years and the maximum and minimum age was 44 and 12 years, respectively. The average gestational age at the time of attendance was 38.41 ±6.7 weeks. Of these patients, 96.3% (n=685) had prenatal care and 11.1% (n=79) received prenatal care at our facility. The average number of prenatal care visits was 6.85 ±2.88, but 28.1% had less than six visits. We identified 10 HIV-positive pregnant women (1.4%) and two patients were known to be HIV positive. The others (n=8) were screened at birth and therefore did not receive ARV prophylaxis during the prenatal period. Three patients were admitted during the expulsion period and also did not receive intrapartum antibiotic prophylaxis. However, all newborns were evaluated, with lactation being suppressed and artificial milk being used., Conclusions: despite the measures established by the Ministry of Health, there are still flaws in the approach to these patients. Only with the participation of managers and professionals involved in care it will be possible to correct the direct actions that enable the effective prevention of vertical transmission of HIV.
