- Abstract
Coronavirus (COVID-19) gained and will continue to gain a lot of global attention over the coming months (and maybe the coming few years). Since its outbreak in Wuhan (China), it has turned into one of the major challenges affecting the whole world. In a comparatively short time, the virus outbreak turned into a pandemic that led to massive negative impacts not only on people health and well-being, but also on the global economy, travel industry, pharmaceutical industry, tourism industry, and many other industries. This research paper aims to investigate the different effects of coronavirus on the global Halal tourism and Halal hospitality industry and whether the coronavirus pandemic is the end of Halal tourism and hospitality as we know it or not. The paper offers an in-depth theoretical examination of the different aspect of the pandemic on Halal tourism and hospitality industry and provides guidance on how to address these different aspects. The current paper is one of very few research papers addressing coronavirus on the tourism and hospitality industry. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Since the 1960s, Halal industry and Islamic Finance have grown in parallel without implementing adequate synergies. Halal tourism is a fast-growing sector of Halal industry, and the connection with Islamic Finance has hardly been researched. The aim of this paper is to analyse whether Islamic Finance can play an active role in developing Halal Tourism. This topic has not been empirically researched in the literature. The methodology is based on a fuzzy hybrid multi-criteria method that satisfactorily handles the imprecise nature associated with the information provided by Likert scales. Our results show how culture has a direct moderating effect on the degree of agreement that respondents have over the active role that IF can play, finding that English respondents agree more than Spanish and Arabs respondents. Similarly, our results also show that the knowledge of the Halal concept makes respondents agree more with the active role of Islamic finance. This study provides insights to the main stakeholders, and it can be strategically used to foster adequate synergy between Islamic Finance and the development of Halal tourist products as a way to specialize in a more sustainable tourism. Spain's relationship with Islam is both phobic and -philic, attitudes revealed in policy and practice throughout the country. This paper examines the ways in which Spain's unique multicultural, multi-religious past affects the nation's present, specifically with regard to tourism. The aim is to situate Spanish concerns amongst the broader context of cultural tourism by exposing how Spain's history is concurrently sold to Muslims and non-Muslims and providing insight into how the representation of this history reflects (or rejects) the nation's current circumstances. Although Spain's tourist industry often capitalizes on Iberia's Islamic past, marketing the peninsula as a leading destination for both "halal tourism" and for those seeking glimpses of medieval al-Andalus, Christian-Muslim tensions continue to plague the nation as controversies, prejudice, and violence abound. - Abstract
Halal tourism is a fast-growing segment of the tourism market, thus a study of its trends is warranted. This paper examines halal tourism trends by analysing posts (known as 'tweets') on the social networking service Twitter. A total of 85,259 tweets were examined. Nineteen keywords (English and Bahasa Malaysia) were used in the extraction process. Using the extracted tweets, the study (1) examined the origins of tweets among the global population related to halal tourism, (2) identified the major populations around the world that are engaged in halal tourism tweets, (3) analysed the sentiment valence in relation to halal tourism, and (4) identified the popular destinations that appear in tweets. The findings showed that Japan is the most-tweeted-about halal tourist destination, followed by Malaysia and Indonesia. The findings can be used by the various halal tourism stakeholders to plan their future strategies in relation to halal tourism. • Halal tourism is a growing segment of the Tourism industry. • Multilingual Halal tourism related tweets were extracted. • The content and the sentiment of the tweets were analysed. • The terms with the highest number of tweets were Halal, hotel', 'Muslim', and 'Indonesia'. • Japan is the most popular destination for Halal Tourism. - Abstract
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools are perfect for developing tourism. Several countries are making an effort to become smart and sustainable tourist destinations, making it easier for tourists to interact with their environment while at the same time improving the quality of life for local people. There are many studies of this process and the benefits it brings, although most of them approach the subject from a western traveler's point of view. This article aims to study the benefits of being a smart and Muslim-friendly tourist destination. An exploratory study was therefore carried out, including a bibliographical review of over one hundred secondary sources. We analyze the Muslim-friendly online services provided by nine destinations, and one of our principal conclusions is that these online services are of the greatest importance for a destination to be truly Muslim-friendly. We also conclude that such services allow companies to design tailored proposals and promote them through digital channels aimed at Muslim people. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Indonesia is an archipelago country in which the tourism sector plays a role as an economic locomotive. In 2016, Indonesia joined the World Halal Tourism Award (WHTA) and won 12 awards, three of which were won by West Sumatra. Bukittinggi is the principal city of tourism in West Sumatra. There are many halal hotels and restaurants and 190 mosques available in the city. Unfortunately, the information regarding the mosque locations is still inadequate. For this reason, this research was conducted in order to develop a web-based and mobile-based geographic information system (GIS) for places of worship information (GPWI) to make it easier for Muslim tourists to find mosques, and other tourism objects and facilities. This paper reports on the development of the GPWI. The development of the GPWI employed the waterfall method. The GPWI allowed tourists to find mosques based on specific criteria, whose output showed them the location, information, route, and local transportation available to get to the mosques as well as other tourism objects and facilities around the mosque. The GPWI was developed using Free Open Source Software (FOSS) PostgreSQL/PostGIS, PHP, JavaScript, and Basic4Android. The spatial-based database and programs that were used to develop this GPWI are the main contributions of this study. Based on the product evaluation, the GPWI successfully met the needs of Muslim tourists in finding mosques during their visits to Bukittinggi. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The increasing size of the worldwide Muslim population and the modernization of Arab countries on the international scene reinforce the rising trend of Islamic Tourism. Indeed, Islamic Tourism has gained much interest in recent years and is considered to be a very promising niche in the near future. This fairly new concept can simply be defined as intra-Muslim and intra-Arab tourism and considering Muslim countries are an emerging tourism market, this is a product with significant economic potential. It is also viewed as tourism that respects Islamic religious principles and is consequently referred to as “Halal Tourism”. In addition, it includes tourists travelling for religious purposes such as those performing the Islamic pilgrimage of Hajj. Consequently, defining Islamic Tourism is a complex matter, that can be broad or narrow, as it can de defined by its type of tourist, its place of travel, its purpose of travel and way of travel. Furthermore, it is important not to omit the cultural aspects of Islamic tourism that this paper will primarily focus on; the paper considers Islamic cultural tourism sites and attractions as another element of this trend, referring to Islamic tourism in its choice of tourist activities. Indeed, Islamic and Arabic culture, mic tourism that this paper will primarily focus on; the paper considers Islamic cultural tourism sites and attractions as another element of this trend, referring to Islamic tourism in its choice of tourist activities. Indeed, Islamic and Arabic culture, heritage and history are displayed and interpreted in order to allow the visitor to discover and understand Muslims, their beliefs and way of life while facilitating their leisurely entertainment and satisfying their tourist curiosity. In this context, this papers offers to define the concept of Mosque Tourism, a term which is inexistent in the current academic literature as well as to propose a justification of its importance as a tourist activity and a central element of Islamic tourism that should be focused on to promote a sustainable growth of this new tourist trend. Indeed, the purpose of this paper is to describe and define Islamic Tourism by reviewing the tourism literature in order to give a meaning to the term Mosque Tourism, which is one of the most important activities undertaken by Muslim tourists as a religious practice as well as a tourist activity while travelling.

Islamic tourism ,Halal industry ,Halal products ,Halal tourism - Abstract
This paper refers to the evolution and development of halal tourism in Russia. To disclose the historical background, basic requirements, problems and prospects of tourism destination development, analytical, synthetic and statistical methods of investigation have been used. The international market of halal products is gaining its potential together with the growth of the Islamic population and the spread of the Islamic traditions. Therefore, the particular attention has been paid to the analysis of the demographic development of Muslims which indicates in general the high dynamics of population growth in the Islamic countries. The analysis of tourist exchange between Muslim states and Russia shows a negative balance today. There is a passivity of Muslim countries citizens in terms of outbound tourism. This complicates the halal tourism development in general, whereas the consumption of halal products on the part of non-Muslim countries population increases. Halal industry in the Russian Federation has originated recently. Therefore this area of expertise is underexplored in scientific terms, and the conceptual apparatus is being developed. Historically there have been Muslim regions on the territory of Russia, nevertheless halal tourism is just beginning to develop, and a long period of time is needed for its dynamic growth. The largest producer and consumer countries of halal products have been highlighted in the paper. Some measures for the development of the Islamic economy, especially the purposeful activities of Tatarstan's authorities, one of the most industrialized regions of Russia with more than half of Muslim population, have been also analyzed.

The paper considers the peculiarities of the development of halal tourism in Russia. It reveals the history, basic requirements, problems and development prospects of the tourism destinations. We used analytical, synthetic, and statistical methods for writing the paper. The potential of the international market of Halal products is growing along with the growth of the Islamic population and the spread of Islamic tradition, and it has great prospects. Therefore, the particular attention was paid to the analysis of the demographic development of the Muslims, which gives reason to talk about high dynamics of population growth in Islamic countries as a whole. The situation with tourists "exchange" between Muslim countries and Russia is unfavorable today. Citizens of Muslim countries are rather passive in terms of international tourism, which complicates the spread of halal-tourism, on the other hand the consumption of this product is growing among the population of non-Muslim countries. Halal industry is relatively recent phenomenon in the Russian Federation, and this determines the fact that the field of knowledge is poorly studied in scientific terms. The conceptual apparatus continues to take shape. Despite the fact that Russia has Muslim regions in its territory, currently the huge potential of halal tourism destinations is just beginning to develop, and its dynamic growth may require long time. The paper highlights largest countries-producers and consumers of such goods. It also considers the issues of Islamic banking. Measures for the development of Islamic economics are analyzed including purposeful activity of the Tatarstan authorities since it is one of the most economically developed regions in Russian. Furthermore, over than half of its population are Muslims.

The aim of this paper is twofold: to contribute to clarifying what exactly Halal tourism is, being a relatively new term; and to provide an insight into the level of knowledge and mental schemes of a new generation (Gen Z) in a Muslim majority country. To achieve the first aim, a literature review is presented. With regard to the second, a survey among Business School university students was carried out in Indonesia; primary data collected were treated by using univariate, bivariate and multivariate statistical techniques. The main findings obtained show that (1) scientific research on Halal tourism is still in an early stage, with the first relevant article dated in 2010; and (2) only a minority of our target population has declared to be familiar with the concept of Halal tourism and to have received specific training on it, but most of them (males particularly) believe that Indonesia should bet decisively to position itself as a Halal tourism destination, being its religious profile the most influential factor in favor of that option. This is the first work on this topic targeting university students’ perceptions. Implications on the supply of services in the tourism industry are also provided.
