The article describes the marble sculpture "Nydia, the Blind Flower Girl of Pompeii," by Randolph Rogers, which appears as the cover art of this issue. The sculpture was inspired by the book "The Last Days of Pompeii," by Edward George Bulwer-Lytton. The sculpture style of Rogers is described as Neo-classical. While working at a dry goods store, Rogers' employers discovered his talent for sculpture and sent him to study in Florence, Italy, where he spent two years with master sculptor Lorenzo Bartolini.
