In situ activation–graphitization method based on the atomically dispersed K and Fe in organic salts is developed to synthesize hierarchical porous graphitic carbon by directly pyrolysis potassium citrate and iron citrate. Moreover, (NH4)2C2O4 is also employed as both N dopant and porogen to open up internal structure and regulate pore structure. The inside-out activation leads to the homogeneous reaction and interconnected hierarchical porous structure with few dead pores. Accompanied by high specific surface area, appropriate pore distribution, good conductivity, and N/O functional groups, the sample exhibits high capacitance of 322.6 F g−1 at 0.5 A g−1, good rate capability, and excellent cycling stability with 101.5% capacitance retention after 15,000 cycles. The supercapacitor shows an energy density of 21.3 W h kg−1 at 456.7 W kg−1 in 1 M Na2SO4. Easy synthesis, cost-effective, and environmentally benign, the work provides a promising strategy to produce hierarchical porous graphitic carbon applied in energy storage. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Astragali Radix (AR), the dried root of Astragali Radix membranaceus (Fisch.) Bge. or Astragali Radix membranaceus (Fisch.) Bge. var. mongholicus (Bge) Hsiao, is a commonly used traditional Chinese medicine for the treatment of liver diseases. This study aimed to comprehensively evaluate the pharmacological action and explore the potential mechanism of AR on liver fibrosis. Rats were administered with carbon tetrachloride for eight weeks, followed by oral treatment with AR for six weeks. The efficacy was confirmed by measuring liver function and liver fibrosis levels. The underlying mechanisms were explored by detecting the expression of related proteins. AR significantly decreased the serum levels of alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), collagen IV (COL-IV), hyaluronic acid (HA), laminin (LN), and precollagen type III (PCIII). In addition, AR inhibited the deposition of collagen and the activation of hepatic stellate cells. Those data strongly demonstrated that AR alleviated liver fibrosis by CCl4. In order to illustrate the potential inflammatory, the mRNA levels of IL-6, TNF-α, and IL-1β were detected. Subsequently, immunohistochemistry analysis was performed to further verify the expression of type I collagen. Finally, the expression of key proteins in the inflammatory signaling pathway was detected. AR significantly reduced the expression of high-mobility group box 1 (HMGB1), TLR4, Myd88, RAGE, and NF-κ B p65 genes and proteins. In addition, western blotting showed AR decreased the protein expression of RAGE, p-MEK1/2, p-ERK1/2, and p-c-Jun. Taken together, our data reveal that AR significantly inhibits liver fibrosis by intervening in the HMGB1-mediated inflammatory signaling pathway and secretion signaling pathway. OBJECTIVES We compared the long-term outcomes between aortic valve reimplantation [David V (DV)] and aortic valve and root replacement with biological valved conduit [Bentall–De Bono (BD)] for the patients with aortic root aneurysm with tricuspid valve. METHODS Among 876 patients who underwent aortic root replacement in our institution between 2005 and 2018, 371 patients who underwent DV (n  = 199) or BD (n  = 172) for aortic root aneurysm with tricuspid valve were retrospectively reviewed. Exclusion criteria included aortic stenosis, infective endocarditis, previous prosthetic aortic valve, bicuspid aortic valve, aortic dissection and mechanical Bentall procedure. Propensity score matching was performed based on the patient characteristics, matching 90 patients in each group. The primary end point was all-cause mortality. Secondary end points were reoperation for any cause and specifically for aortic valve-related cause. RESULTS After propensity score matching, DV and BD groups each had 1 in-hospital mortality (1.1%). Survival at 10 years was 95.3% [95% confidence interval (CI) 85.8–98.5] in DV and 98.6% (95% CI 90.8–99.8) in BD (P  = 0.345). The cumulative incidences of reoperation at 10 years in DV versus BD were 3.9% (95% CI 0.7–11.8) vs 18.1% (95% CI 6.9–33.4) for any cause (P  = 0.046) and 1.9% (95% CI 0.1–8.8) vs 15.9% (95% CI 5.5–31.4) for aortic valve-related causes (P  = 0.032). The reasons for valve-related reoperation were aortic insufficiency (3/5 in DV vs 5/10 in BD), aortic stenosis (0/5 vs 2/10) and infective endocarditis (2/5 vs 3/10). CONCLUSIONS Both DV and BD procedures for patients with aortic root aneurysm with tricuspid valve resulted in excellent 10-year survival. All-cause and aortic valve-related reoperations were significantly less frequent with valve-sparing root replacement, suggesting an advantage of DV over biological BD. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Zuojin Pill (ZJP) is widely used for the treatment of gastrointestinal diseases, while its specific mechanism has not been systematically investigated. The aim of this study was to explore the therapeutic effects and potential mechanism of ZJP in chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) through UPLC-Q-TOF/MS-based metabolomics combined with network pharmacology. ZJP and omeprazole significantly reduce contents of IL-1β, IL-6, IL-10, and iNOS and improve pathological characteristics. Metabolomic results indicated that the therapeutic effects of ZJP were mainly related to ten metabolites, namely, choline, L-threonine, hydroxypyruvic acid, creatine, taurine, succinic acid, cis-aconitic acid, citric acid, succinic acid semialdehyde, and uric acid. Pathway analysis showed that the treatment of CAG by ZJP was associated with taurine and hypotaurine metabolism; glyoxylate and dicarboxylate metabolism; glycine, serine, and threonine metabolism; glycerophospholipid metabolism; citrate cycle (TCA cycle), alanine, aspartate, and glutamate metabolism; butanoate metabolism; and purine metabolism. Validation of metabolic markers and key targets of network pharmacology through RT-PCR analysis showed that ZJP significantly downregulated a series of inflammatory markers, such as MAPK1, PKIA, RB1, SCN5A, RXRA, E2F1, PTGS1, IGF2, ADRB1, ADRA1B, PTGS2, and GABRA1. This study was the first to use a combination of metabolomics and network pharmacology to clarify the therapeutic effects of ZJP on CAG and the regulation of multiple metabolic pathways. Objective. The systematic review was designed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of Qishen Yiqi dropping pill combined with conventional Western medicine in the treatment of chronic heart failure (CHF). Methods. Relevant randomized controlled trials (RCTs) investigating the clinical efficacy of Qishen Yiqi dropping pill combined with conventional Western medicine in treating CHF were widely searched in electronic databases, including PubMed, Cochrane Library, EMBASE, CBM, CNKI, Read-show database, VIP database, and WanFang up to December 26, 2020. The methodological quality of each trial was assessed according to the Cochrane Reviewers' Handbook 5.0. Meta-analysis was performed by using Review Manager 5.3. Results. Twenty-one RCTs (N = 2162) that met the criteria were included in the review for the assessment of methodological quality. Meta-analysis showed that compared with the conventional Western medicine (control group), Qishen Yiqi dropping pill combined with conventional Western medicine (experience group) significantly improved clinical efficiency, left ventricular end-diastolic diameter (LVEDD), left ventricular end-systolic diameter (LVESD), left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), brain natriuretic peptide level (BNP), 6 min-walk distance (6-MWD), and adverse reactions. Conclusion. Qishen Yiqi dropping pill combined with conventional Western medicine are better than conventional Western medicine alone to improve the indicators of patients with CHF, which provides a certain basis for the treatment of CHF. Cholestasis is an important cause of liver fibrosis and cirrhosis. Yinchenhao decoction has been used as a well‐known traditional Chinese medicine used in the treatment of cholestasis for over 2,000 years. The purpose of this systematic review is to evaluate the preclinical evidence of Yinchenhao decoction on cholestasis models. The following databases were searched from inception to February 2020. Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, VIP medicine information system, Wanfang Database, PubMed, Web of Science, Embase and the Cochrane Library were searched. The content concerned Yinchenhao decoction on different animal model experiments for the treatment of cholestasis. The methodological quality of the included studies was assessed based on the SYstematic Review Center for Laboratory animal Experimentation Animal Experiment Bias Risk Assessment Tool. A meta‐analysis was conducted with RevMan 5.3 software according to the Cochrane tool. Nineteen studies on a total of 404 animals were included with five kinds of experimental animal models. The results showed that serum total bilirubin (TBIL), direct bilirubin (DBIL), indirect bilirubin and total bile acid in the group treated with Yinchenhao decoction were significantly lower than those in the model group (P < 0.00001). The alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase and alkaline phosphatase levels in the Yinchenhao decoction group were also significantly reduced (P < 0.00001). The subgroup analysis of the different models showed that Yinchenhao decoction had a significant effect on the bile duct ligation model, and there was a significant reduction in TBIL, DBIL and ALT levels (P < 0.00001) in ANIT‐induced cholestasis. After 24 hours of Yinchenhao decoction treatment, there was no significant difference in TBIL levels (P = 0.34), but after 48 and 72 hours of treatment, the TBIL levels were significantly reduced compared with the model group (P < 0.00001). There was no significant difference in DBIL after 48 hours of administration (P = 0.26), but compared with the model group, Yinchenhao decoction could significantly reduce the DBIL levels after 48 hours of treatment (P < 0.0003). Yinchenhao decoction could significantly reduce the ALT levels after 24, 48 and 72 hours (P < 0.006). Yinchenhao decoction was able to significantly reduce the levels of TBIL, DBIL and ALT on different rat species: Wistar and Sprague Dawley (P = 0.0001; P = 0.0002). The preclinical evidence indicated that Yinchenhao decoction might be a potent and promising agent for cholestasis. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of Tanreqing injection (TRQi) in the treatment of pulmonary infection after chemotherapy in patients with lung cancer. Cochrane Library, PubMed, Web of Science, EMbase, CNKI, VMIS, Wan‐Fang, and CBM databases were comprehensively searched from established to March 2020. randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of TRQi were selected. The evaluation manual of Cochrane RCT was used to evaluate the methodological quality of all included studies, Stata 13.0 and Review Manager 5.3 software was used for meta‐analysis. This study is registered with PROSPERO (CRD42020175533). Eighteen RCTs with a total of 1,438 patients were met the inclusion criteria. Meta‐analysis showed that compared with antibiotics alone, TRQi plus antibiotics could significantly improve the clinical efficacy, defervescence time, lung rale disappearance time, cough disappearance time, and average hospitalization time, reduce white blood cell, C‐reactive protein, and procalcitonin levels, and adverse reactions. However, due to the small sample size and low quality of the study, more rigorous and more RCTs are needed for further verification. In conclusion, this study provides useful evidence for the efficacy and safety of TRQi combined with antibiotics in the treatment of pulmonary infection after chemotherapy with lung cancer.
