Utilizing infrared spectroscopy coupled with batch equilibrium methods, the adsorption and desorption characteristics of the novel Insecticide fluchlordiniliprole were assessed in four different soil types. It was found that fluchlordiniliprole's adsorption and desorption in these soils were consistent with the Freundlich isotherm, exhibiting adsorption capacities (K F-ads ) ranging from 8.436 to 36.269. Temperature fluctuations, encompassing both high and low extremes, impaired the ability of soil to adsorb fluchlordiniliprole. In addition, adsorption dynamics were modulated by several other factors, including soil pH, ionic strength, amendments (e.g., biochar and humic substances), and the presence of various surfactants and microplastics. Although capable of leaching, fluchlordiniliprole exhibited weak mobility in most soils. Therefore, it appears that fluchlordiniliprole seems to pose a threat to surface soil and aquatic biota, but a minimal threat to groundwater. Background & aims : Although previous observational studies have suggested an association between whole grain consumption (including breakfast cereals) and a reduced risk of death, no study has explored in detail the association between consumption of cereal with or without added sweeteners and death. We therefore aimed to evaluate the association between unsweetened, sugar-sweetened, and artificially sweetened cereals and all-cause and cause-specific mortality. Methods : We conducted a prospective cohort study of 186 419 UK Biobank participants who met the inclusion criteria for this study. Participants with baseline demographic, lifestyle, dietary, and clinical data were recruited from 2006 to 2010 and followed up until 2023. The intake of unsweetened, sugar-sweetened, or artificially sweetened cereals was estimated through repeated 24 hour dietary recalls. The non-linear relationships between daily dosage of cereal and all-cause, cancer-specific, and cardiovascular disease (CVD)-specific mortality were calculated using a restricted cubic spline curve. Hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for all-cause and cause-specific mortality were calculated using Cox regression models. Results : During a median follow-up of 13.6 years, 11 351 all-cause deaths were recorded, including 6176 cancer deaths and 2126 CVD deaths. Cox regression models with restricted cubic splines showed a non-linear association between unsweetened cereals and all-cause and cancer-specific mortality. Compared with non-consumers, consumers of different amounts of unsweetened cereals (0 to 0.5, 0.5 to 1.5, and >1.5 bowls per day) had lower risks of all-cause mortality in the multivariate Cox models, with respective HRs of 0.89 (95%CI: 0.84-0.95), 0.90 (95%CI: 0.86-0.94), and 0.89 (95%CI: 0.82-0.97). However, no association was observed between consumption of sugar or artificially sweetened cereals and the risk of mortality. When cereals were divided into those with or without dried fruit, the findings were consistent with our primary results. Conclusions : Moderate consumption of unsweetened cereals was associated with a reduced risk of all-cause mortality, suggesting caution in consuming cereals with added sugar or artificial sweeteners.

Benzovindiflupyr is a succinate dehydrogenase inhibitor fungicide that targets mitochondrial function for disease control. In this study, we investigated the adsorption-desorption and leaching behavior of benzovindiflupyr in eight soil types using the batch equilibrium method and the soil column leaching method. A Freundlich model (r 2 > 0.9959) was used to better characterize the adsorption-desorption process in eight soil types, with adsorption coefficients (K F-ads ) ranging from 2.303 to 17.886. K F-ads was significantly and positively correlated (p < 0.05) with the organic carbon content. High temperatures and increased initial pH of aqueous solutions led to a decrease in benzovindiflupyr adsorption in the soil. The adsorption was also influenced by factors such as ionic strength, humic acid, surfactant type, microplastic type, and particle size and concentration. Moreover, benzovindiflupyr exhibited low leachability in all four soils selected, but different leaching solutions affected the risk of benzovindiflupyr migration to groundwater. Introduction: The cardiothoracic ratio (CTR) based on postero-anterior chest X-rays (P-A CXR) images is one of the most commonly used cardiac measurement methods and an indicator for initially evaluating cardiac diseases. However, the hearts are not readily observable on P-A CXR images compared to the lung fields. Therefore, radiologists often manually determine the CTR's right and left heart border points of the adjacent left and right lung fields to the heart based on P-A CXR images. Meanwhile, manual CTR measurement based on the P-A CXR image requires experienced radiologists and is time-consuming and laborious., Methods: Based on the above, this article proposes a novel, fully automatic CTR calculation method based on lung fields abstracted from the P-A CXR images using convolutional neural networks (CNNs), overcoming the limitations to heart segmentation and avoiding errors in heart segmentation. First, the lung field mask images are abstracted from the P-A CXR images based on the pre-trained CNNs. Second, a novel localization method of the heart's right and left border points is proposed based on the two-dimensional projection morphology of the lung field mask images using graphics., Results: The results show that the mean distance errors at the x -axis direction of the CTR's four key points in the test sets T1 (21 × 512 × 512 static P-A CXR images) and T2 (13 × 512 × 512 dynamic P-A CXR images) based on various pre-trained CNNs are 4.1161 and 3.2116 pixels, respectively. In addition, the mean CTR errors on the test sets T1 and T2 based on four proposed models are 0.0208 and 0.0180, respectively., Discussion: Our proposed model achieves the equivalent performance of CTR calculation as the previous CardioNet model, overcomes heart segmentation, and takes less time. China, as the world's largest producer, trader, and consumer of aquatic foods, lacks comprehensive research on consumption patterns and willingness to pay for sustainable aquatic food. This study addressed this gap through an online survey of 3403 participants across Chinese provinces. A majority of consumers (34.7% of the participants) consume aquatic food twice or more per week, mainly from traditional markets (26%). Most prefer fresh or live products (76%), with 42% seeing no difference between farmed and wild options. Consumption is higher among older, affluent, urban, and coastal residents. Crustaceans, especially shrimp, are frequently consumed species, with growing interest in luxury species like salmon and abalone. Taste and quality emerge as the primary factors motivating consumer choices in aquatic food purchases. Food safety is the primary concern, followed by environmental impact. Notably, 92.4% of participants would pay extra for certified products. Factors influencing a higher willingness to pay include higher income, inland residence, price sensitivity, origin consciousness, and concerns about food safety and the environment. The findings highlight that China's aquatic food industry and consumption can become more sustainable by aligning with consumer preferences for high-quality and diverse aquatic food through both production and import, while also addressing concerns related to food safety and environmental impact. This research provides valuable insights into China's rapidly transforming aquatic food market landscape, offering implications for industry innovation and the promotion of sustainable consumption patterns.

Understanding the spatiotemporal changes in net primary productivity (NPP) and the driving factors behind these changes in climate-vulnerable regions is crucial for ecological conservation. This study simulates the actual NPP (NPPA) and climate potential NPP (NPPC) in the Three-River Headwaters Region from 2000 to 2020. The Theil-Sen Median method and Mann-Kendall mutation analyses are employed to explore their spatiotemporal variation patterns, while geographic weighted regression and machine learning are used to investigate the influence of anthropogenic activities and climatic factors on NPPA, the results indicate that the average NPPA across the entire region over multiple years is 382.506 g C m - 2 yr - 1 , which is 0.132 times the average annual NPPC over the past 21 years, showing an overall distribution pattern of low in the northwest and high in the southeast. The annual increase in NPPA from 2000 to 2020 is approximately 1.034 g C m - 2 yr - 1 . The source region of the Yangtze River shows the largest improvement in vegetation, with 74.1% of the area showing improvement. Between 2002 and 2003, the annual NPPA in the Three-River Headwaters Region experienced a sudden change, lagging behind the NPPC change by 1 year, and after 2005, the upward trend in NPPA became more pronounced. The impact of anthropogenic activities on NPPA shifted from positive to negative to positive from 2000 to 2020, with significant impact areas mainly concentrated in the northeast and a few areas in the central and southern parts. The proportion of areas with extremely significant impact increased from 1.9% in 2000 to 3.7% in 2020. Over the past 21 years, the main factors influencing NPPA changes in the Three-River Headwaters Region have been soil moisture and precipitation, with the influence of different climate factors on NPP changing over time. Additionally, NPP is more sensitive to changes in altitude in low-altitude areas. Microplastics (MPs) and pesticides are two categories contaminants with proposed negative impacts to aqueous ecosystems, and adsorption of pesticides on MPs may result in their long-range transport and compound combination effects. Florpyrauxifen-benzyl, a novel pyridine-2-carboxylate auxin herbicide has been widely used to control weeds in paddy field, but the insights of which are extremely limited. Therefore, adsorption and desorption behaviors of florpyrauxifen-benzyl on polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polyethylene (PE) and disposable face masks (DFMs) in five water environment were investigated. The impacts of various environmental factors on adsorption capacity were evaluated, as well as adsorption mechanisms. The results revealed significant variations in adsorption capacity of florpyrauxifen-benzyl on three MPs, with approximately order of DFMs > PE > PVC. The discrepancy can be attributed to differences in structural and physicochemical properties, as evidenced by various characterization analysis. The kinetics and isotherm of florpyrauxifen-benzyl on three MPs were suitable for different models, wherein physical force predominantly governed adsorption process. Thermodynamic analysis revealed that both high and low temperatures weakened PE and DFMs adsorption, whereas temperature exhibited negligible impact on PVC adsorption. The adsorption capacity was significantly influenced by most environmental factors, particularly pH, cations and coexisting herbicide. We present the results for CAPRI Round 54, the 5th joint CASP-CAPRI protein assembly prediction challenge. The Round offered 37 targets, including 14 homodimers, 3 homo-trimers, 13 heterodimers including 3 antibody-antigen complexes, and 7 large assemblies. On average ~70 CASP and CAPRI predictor groups, including more than 20 automatics servers, submitted models for each target. A total of 21 941 models submitted by these groups and by 15 CAPRI scorer groups were evaluated using the CAPRI model quality measures and the DockQ score consolidating these measures. The prediction performance was quantified by a weighted score based on the number of models of acceptable quality or higher submitted by each group among their five best models. Results show substantial progress achieved across a significant fraction of the 60+ participating groups. High-quality models were produced for about 40% of the targets compared to 8% two years earlier. This remarkable improvement is due to the wide use of the AlphaFold2 and AlphaFold2-Multimer software and the confidence metrics they provide. Notably, expanded sampling of candidate solutions by manipulating these deep learning inference engines, enriching multiple sequence alignments, or integration of advanced modeling tools, enabled top performing groups to exceed the performance of a standard AlphaFold2-Multimer version used as a yard stick. This notwithstanding, performance remained poor for complexes with antibodies and nanobodies, where evolutionary relationships between the binding partners are lacking, and for complexes featuring conformational flexibility, clearly indicating that the prediction of protein complexes remains a challenging problem., (© 2023 The Authors. To enhance the AlphaFold-Multimer-based protein complex structure prediction, we developed a quaternary structure prediction system (MULTICOM) to improve the input fed to AlphaFold-Multimer and evaluate and refine its outputs. MULTICOM samples diverse multiple sequence alignments (MSAs) and templates for AlphaFold-Multimer to generate structural predictions by using both traditional sequence alignments and Foldseek-based structure alignments, ranks structural predictions through multiple complementary metrics, and refines the structural predictions via a Foldseek structure alignment-based refinement method. The MULTICOM system with different implementations was blindly tested in the assembly structure prediction in the 15 th Critical Assessment of Techniques for Protein Structure Prediction (CASP15) in 2022 as both server and human predictors. MULTICOM&#95;qa ranked 3 rd among 26 CASP15 server predictors and MULTICOM&#95;human ranked 7 th among 87 CASP15 server and human predictors. The average TM-score of the first predictions submitted by MULTICOM&#95;qa for CASP15 assembly targets is ~0.76, 5.3% higher than ~0.72 of the standard AlphaFold-Multimer. The average TM-score of the best of top 5 predictions submitted by MULTICOM&#95;qa is ~0.80, about 8% higher than ~0.74 of the standard AlphaFold-Multimer. Re-expression of an embryonic morphogen, Nodal, has been seen in several types of malignant tumours. By far, studies about Nodal's role in colorectal cancer (CRC) remain limited. Ferroptosis is essential for CRC progression, which is caused by cellular redox imbalance and characterized by lipid peroxidation. Herein, we observed that Nodal enhanced CRC cell's proliferative rate, motility, invasiveness, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in vivo and in vitro. Notably, Nodal overexpression induced monounsaturated fatty acids synthesis and increased the lipid unsaturation level. Nodal knockdown resulted in increased CRC cell lipid peroxidation. Stearoyl-coenzyme A desaturase 1 (SCD1) inhibition at least partially abolished the resistance of Nodal-overexpressing cells to RSL3-induced ferroptosis. Mechanistically, SCD1 was transcriptionally up-regulated by Smad2/3 pathway activation in response to Nodal overexpression. Significant Nodal and SCD1 up-regulation were observed in CRC tissues and were associated with CRC metastasis and poor clinical outcomes. Furthermore, bovine serum albumin nanoparticles/si-Nodal nanocomplexes targeting Nodal had anti-tumour effects on CRC progression and metastasis. Regeneration of gastrointestinal tissues remains a great challenge due to their unique microenvironment. Functional composite decellularized scaffolds have shown great potential in gastrointestinal repair and inducing gastrointestinal tissue-specific proliferation. In this study, polydopamine (PDA)-mediated surface modification of decellularized intestinal scaffolds (DIS), combined with adipose tissue-derived stem cells (ADSC), was used to promote intestinal wound healing while avoiding intestinal resection. The results showed that DIS had good biocompatibility and could maintain the growth and proliferation of ADSC. Moreover, PDA-coated DIS not only had anti-infection ability but could also further promote the secretory activity for the paracrine effects of ADSC. ADSC cultured on PDA-DIS produced significantly higher levels of anti-inflammatory and proangiogenic cytokines than those cultured on plastic plates or DIS. In vivo , ADSC-PDA-DIS significantly promoted intestinal wound closure in rat intestinal defect models. Moreover, ADSC-PDA-DIS was able to induce more neovascularization at 4 weeks postoperatively and promoted macrophage recruitment to accelerate wound healing. Taken together, the results showed that PDA-modified DIS could significantly improve the efficacy of stem cell therapy, and ADSC-PDA-DIS could improve the wound healing process with anti-infection effects, enhancing neovascularization and immunoregulation, which may be of great clinical significance for gastrointestinal regeneration.

Prostate cancer (PCa) is a malignant tumor that seriously threatens men's health worldwide. Recently, stromal cells in the tumor microenvironment (TME) have been reported to contribute to the progression of PCa. However, the role and mechanism of how PCa cells interact with stromal cells to reshape the TME remain largely unknown. Here, using a spontaneous prostate adenocarcinoma (PRAD) model driven by the loss of Pten and Hic1, we found that M2 macrophages markedly infiltrated the stroma of Pten and Hic1 double conditional knockout (dCKO) mice compared with those in control (Ctrl) mice due to higher TGF-β levels secreted by HIC1-deleted PCa cells. Mechanistically, TGF-β in TME promoted the polarization of macrophages into "M2" status by activating the STAT3 pathway and modulating c-Myc to upregulate CXCR4 expression. Meanwhile, TGF-β activated the fibroblasts to form cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) that secrete higher CXCL12 levels, which bound to its cognate receptor CXCR4 on M2 macrophages. Upon interaction with CAFs, M2 macrophages secreted more CXCL5, which promoted the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) of PCa via CXCR2. Moreover, using the TGF-β receptor I antagonist, galunisertib, significantly inhibited the tumor growth and progression of the TRAMP-C1 cell line-derived subcutaneous tumor model. Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is known as a highly aggressive subtype of BC due to high rate of recurrence and metastasis, poor prognosis and lacking of effective targeted therapies. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) have been reported to participate in the progression of TNBC. In this study, we demonstrated that circPRKCI, derived from the PRKCI gene, was elevated in BC tissues and cell lines, especially in TNBC. The functional investigation showed that circPRKCI could significantly promote the proliferation and migration of TNBC in vivo and in vitro. In addition, circPRKCI regulated WBP2 and the phosphorylation of AKT via serving as miR-545-3p sponge. Of note, EIF4A3 could induce circPRKCI expression and nuclear export in TNBC cells. Taken together, EIF4A3-mediated circPRKCI could promote TNBC progression by regulating WBP2 and PI3K/AKT signaling pathway, providing a new avenue of therapy for TNBC., (© 2022. The Author(s).)

Rechargeable aqueous zinc-ion batteries (RZIBs) provide a promising complementarity to the existing lithium-ion batteries due to their low cost, non-toxicity and intrinsic safety. However, Zn anodes suffer from zinc dendrite growth and electrolyte corrosion, resulting in poor reversibility. Here, we develop an ultrathin, fluorinated two-dimensional porous covalent organic framework (FCOF) film as a protective layer on the Zn surface. The strong interaction between fluorine (F) in FCOF and Zn reduces the surface energy of the Zn (002) crystal plane, enabling the preferred growth of (002) planes during the electrodeposition process. As a result, Zn deposits show horizontally arranged platelet morphology with (002) orientations preferred. Furthermore, F-containing nanochannels facilitate ion transport and prevent electrolyte penetration for improving corrosion resistance. The FCOF@Zn symmetric cells achieve stability for over 750 h at an ultrahigh current density of 40 mA cm -2 . Protein structure prediction is an important problem in bioinformatics and has been studied for decades. However, there are still few open-source comprehensive protein structure prediction packages publicly available in the field. In this paper, we present our latest open-source protein tertiary structure prediction system-MULTICOM2, an integration of template-based modeling (TBM) and template-free modeling (FM) methods. The template-based modeling uses sequence alignment tools with deep multiple sequence alignments to search for structural templates, which are much faster and more accurate than MULTICOM1. The template-free (ab initio or de novo) modeling uses the inter-residue distances predicted by DeepDist to reconstruct tertiary structure models without using any known structure as template. In the blind CASP14 experiment, the average TM-score of the models predicted by our server predictor based on the MULTICOM2 system is 0.720 for 58 TBM (regular) domains and 0.514 for 38 FM and FM/TBM (hard) domains, indicating that MULTICOM2 is capable of predicting good tertiary structures across the board. It can predict the correct fold for 76 CASP14 domains (95% regular domains and 55% hard domains) if only one prediction is made for a domain. The success rate is increased to 3% for both regular and hard domains if five predictions are made per domain. Moreover, the prediction accuracy of the pure template-free structure modeling method on both TBM and FM targets is very close to the combination of template-based and template-free modeling methods. This demonstrates that the distance-based template-free modeling method powered by deep learning can largely replace the traditional template-based modeling method even on TBM targets that TBM methods used to dominate and therefore provides a uniform structure modeling approach to any protein. Finally, on the 38 CASP14 FM and FM/TBM hard domains, MULTICOM2 server predictors (MULTICOM-HYBRID, MULTICOM-DEEP, MULTICOM-DIST) were ranked among the top 20 automated server predictors in the CASP14 experiment. After combining multiple predictors from the same research group as one entry, MULTICOM-HYBRID was ranked no. 5. The development of Li-S batteries is largely impeded by the complicated shuttle effect of lithium polysulfides (LiPSs) and sluggish reaction kinetics. In addition, the low mass loading/utilization of sulfur is another key factor that makes Li-S batteries difficult to commercialize. Here, a porous catalytic V 2 O 3 /V 8 C 7 @carbon composite derived from MIL-47 (V) featuring heterostructures is reported to be an efficient polysulfide regulator in Li-S batteries, achieving a substantial increase in sulfur loading while still effectively suppressing the shuttle effect and enhancing kinetics. Systematic mechanism analyses suggest that the LiPSs strongly adsorbed on the V 2 O 3 surface can be rapidly transferred to the V 8 C 7 surface through the built-in interface for subsequent reversible conversion by an efficient catalytic effect, realizing enhanced regulation of LiPSs from capture to conversion. In addition, the porous structure provides sufficient sulfur storage space, enabling the heterostructures to exert full efficacy with a high sulfur loading. Thus, this S-V 2 O 3 /V 8 C 7 @carbon@graphene cathode exhibits prominent rate performance (587.6 mAh g -1 at 5 C) and a long lifespan (1000 cycles, 0.017% decay per cycle). It can still deliver superior electrochemical performance even with a sulfur loading of 8.1 mg cm -2 . These heterostructures can be further applied in pouch cells and produce stable output at different folding angles (0-180°). More crucially, the cells could retain 4.3 mAh cm -2 even after 150 cycles, which is higher than that of commercial lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). This strategy for solving the shuttle effect under high sulfur loading provides a promising solution for the further development of high-performance Li-S batteries.

Prediction of the three-dimensional (3D) structure of a protein from its sequence is important for studying its biological function. With the advancement in deep learning contact distance prediction and residue-residue coevolutionary analysis, significant progress has been made in both template-based and template-free protein structure prediction in the last several years. Here, we provide a practical guide for our latest MULTICOM protein structure prediction system built on top of the latest advances, which was rigorously tested in the 2018 CASP13 experiment. Its specific functionalities include: (1) prediction of 1D structural features (secondary structure, solvent accessibility, disordered regions) and 2D interresidue contacts; (2) domain boundary prediction; (3) template-based (or homology) 3D structure modeling; (4) contact distance-driven ab initio 3D structure modeling; and (5) large-scale protein quality assessment enhanced by deep learning and predicted contacts. The MULTICOM web server ( http://sysbio.rnet.missouri.edu/multicom&#95;cluster/ ) presents all the 1D, 2D, and 3D prediction results and quality assessment to users via user-friendly web interfaces and e-mails. Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women worldwide. Triple-negative breast cancer is one of the most aggressive types of breast cancer as it has the worst clinical outcome for patients. microRNAs are a type of small non-coding RNA and play an important role in breast cancer. The purpose of this study was to explore the potential function and mechanism of miR-143-3p in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). MTT and colony formation assays, the effect of miR-143-3p modulation on MDA-MB-231 cell proliferation, revealed that increased miR-143-3p expression inhibited the proliferation of MDA-MB-231 TNBC cells. Moreover, miR-143-3p overexpression inhibited the movement of MDA-MB-231 TNBC cells in wound healing and transwell assays. To identify a potential miR-143-3p target, we investigated the effect of miR-143-3p modulation on LIMK1 expression level. Increased miR-143-3p expression caused a reduction in LIMK1 mRNA and protein, suggesting that LIMK1 is a target of miR-143-3p. In addition, dual-luciferase reporter assays showed that LIMK1 is a target gene of miR-143-3p. Flow cytometry analysis indicated that miR-143-3p arrested MDA-MB-231 TNBC cells at the G0/G1 phase. The TCGA (The Cancer Genome Atlas) database demonstrated that miR-143-3p was down-regulated in breast cancer tissues compared with normal breast tissues. These data demonstrated that miR-143-3p functioned as a suppressor gene in TNBC and that miR-143 targeted therapy may be a new strategy for TNBC treatment., Competing Interests: None.

In addition to the traditional metal and ceramic scaffolds, 3-D printing scaffolds carrying seeding cells and tissue factors as well as scaffolds filling particular drugs for special need have been paid more and more attention., Conclusion: The development of 3-D printing porous scaffolds have revealed new perspectives in bone repairing. But it is still at the initial stage, more basic and clinical researches are still needed.
