A new approach to some optimization problems arising in the transport logistics was proposed. Consideration was given to the fundamental problems of the today logistics such as the problem of optimal arrangement and that of identification and segmentation of the logistic zones. They are solved using the "wave" method which relies on the analogy between the determination of the global extremum of the integral functional and propagation of light in an optically inhomogeneous medium. A numerical algorithm was developed, and the results of calculations presented.

An Integrated Approach to Product Delivery Planning and SchedulingProduct delivery planning and scheduling is a task of high priority in transport logistics. In distribution centres this task is related to deliveries of various types of goods in predefined time windows. In real-life applications the problem has different stochastic performance criteria and conditions. Optimisation of schedules itself is time consuming and requires an expert knowledge. In this paper an integrated approach to product delivery planning and scheduling is proposed. It is based on a cluster analysis of demand data of stores to identify typical dynamic demand patterns and product delivery tactical plans, and simulation optimisation to find optimal parameters of transportation or vehicle schedules. Here, a cluster analysis of the demand data by using the K-means clustering algorithm and silhouette plots mean values is performed, and an NBTree-based classification model is built. In order to find an optimal grouping of stores into regions based on their geographical locations and the total demand uniformly distributed over regions, a multiobjective optimisation problem is formulated and solved with the NSGA II algorithm.

Based on the experience of former tunnel construction projects, the project management appointed an independent quality assurance consultant in addition to quality control by the site supervision for the construction of the intermediate slab and the concrete pavement of the new second tube of the Tauern Tunnel (direction Salzburg). In relation to the concrete pavement with exposed aggregate finish and the intermediate slab, quality assurance measures included the inspection of the suitability certificates and expert support in construction preparation and concreting. Compliance with the technical conditions of contract was also monitored continuously. For the road pavement construction, particular emphasis was placed on the quality of the pavement concrete and the exposed aggregate finish. For this reason, the first few days of pavement construction were subjected to increased checks, until the concrete production, transport logistics and construction crew had got used to the specific conditions in the tunnel and a homogeneous exposed aggregate finish could be guaranteed with the required functional properties like skid-resistance and noise-reducing texture. Construction of the intermediate slab was prepared in advance by casting a test slab as agreed with the specialist in order to check that the required construction quality could be achieved with the chosen process. The experience with the test slab led to an optimisation of the construction process and the implementation of this and maintenance of the quality requirements were supervised during the construction work. Fur die Herstellung der Zwischendecke und der Betonfahrbahn der neuen zweiten Rohre des Tauerntunnels (Richtungsfahrbahn Salzburg) wurde von der Projektleitung aufgrund der Erfahrungen aus vorhergehenden Tunnelbaulosen zusatzlich zur Qualitatskontrolle durch die ortliche Bauaufsicht eine begleitende Qualitatssicherung durchgefuhrt. In Bezug auf die in Waschbetontechnik ausgeschriebene Betonfahrbahn und die Zwischendecke umfassten die qualitatssichernden Masnahmen die Begutachtung der Eignungsnachweise und die sachverstandige Unterstutzung der Bauvorbereitung und des Deckeneinbaus. Zusatzlich erfolgte eine laufende Beurteilung der Einhaltung der technischen Vertragsbestimmungen. Fur den Strasendeckeneinbau wurde besonderes Augenmerk auf die Qualitat des Deckenbetons und der hergestellten Waschbetonstruktur gelegt. Zu diesem Zweck wurden die ersten Tagesleistungen bei der Deckenherstellung einer verdichteten Kontrollprufung unterzogen, bis sich die Betonproduktion, die Transportlogistik und die Einbaumannschaft auf die spezifischen im Tunnel vorherrschenden Verhaltnisse eingespielt hatten und eine homogene Waschbetonoberflache mit den geforderten funktionalen Eigenschaften bezuglich Griffigkeit und larmmindernder Textur sicher gestellt werden konnte. Fur die Herstellung der Zwischendecke wurde im Rahmen der Arbeitsvorbereitung ein Probefeld in Abstimmung mit dem Sachverstandigen hergestellt, um die Erreichbarkeit der geforderten Bauwerksqualitat mit dem gewahlten Einbauverfahren zu uberprufen. Die Erfahrungen aus dem Probefeld fuhrten zu einer Optimierung des Einbauverfahrens. Die Umsetzung der Erkenntnisse aus dem Probefeld und Einhaltung der Qualitatsanforderungen wurden bei der Ausfuhrung begleitend uberwacht.

This study empirically examined the relationships between corporate social responsibility (CSR), customer satisfaction, customer loyalty, and organisational performance in the container shipping context. We collected data from a survey of 124 container shipping firms and agencies and used a structural equation model to test the research hypotheses. We confirmed that CSR implementation increases customer satisfaction and customer loyalty, which in turn enhance organisational performance. This paper discusses the managerial implications for container shipping firms to improve their CSR and organisational performance.

Objetivo: caracterizar la logística de transporte y su importancia en el desarrollo local en exportadores de uva de mesa de las localidades de Hermosillo, Pesqueira, Carbó y Guaymas, Sonora. Metodología: consistió en la aplicación de una entrevista semiestructurada a trece gerentes de organizaciones exportadoras de uva de mesa elegidos por conveniencia. Resultados: indican que la logística es un proceso clave en las operaciones de las organizaciones exportadoras. Limitantes: existe limitada disposición de los sujetos para responder la entrevista. Conclusiones: la logística de trasporte, en particular, se desarrolla acorde a lo que sugiere la logística internacional con connotaciones particulares y que han obligado a los gerentes a buscar mecanismos de eficiencia para poder cumplir con las exigencias que impone el mercado.

Obwohl die publizierten Richtlinien zweifellos wertvolle Anhaltspunkte für die tägliche Laborpraxis darstellen, handelt es sich in einigen Bereichen um Maximalkriterien, die sich technisch und logistisch im diagnostischen Alltag nicht immer vollständig umsetzen lassen.In diesem Übersichtsartikel sollen häufige Problemfelder in der Präanalytik der Routine-Gerinnungstests diskutiert werden. Da die Stabilität von Gerinnungstests wie z. B. der Prothrombinzeit und der partiellen Thromboplastinzeit stark von lokalen Faktoren abhängen (z. B. Röhrchentyp, Hersteller, Reagenzien und Analysesysteme) wird empfohlen, dass jedes Labor auf Basis der Richtlinien detaillierte Verfahrensanweisungen für die Ein-sender entwickelt, um die präanalytische Variabilität zu vermindern.

In the article approaches to the definition of the concept «logistical system» are considered. The analysis of the existing approaches allows to conclude that all the authors agree that the logistical system consists of separate interrelated elements that have functional connections for optimizing material flow management.The basic fundamentals that allow to single out transport logistics as a separate independent sphere have been determined. Those elements of transport logistics which determine the composition of tasks that it solves have been specified.Consideration of the main logistics processes of the enterprise: supply, production and marketing, shows that each of these processes contains the transportation process and makes it possible to conclude that this process is inherent to most logistics operations.The analysis of tasks that are solved by transport logistics allows to draw a conclusion about its role in the coordination of actions and interests of direct-acting participants of logistical processes. This coherence concerns technical, technological and economic issues. Thus, transport logistics ensures the consistency of the transport-logistic subsystem with other subsystems of the logistical system.A functional approach to the logistical system allows to identify the main functional areas that lo­se their isolated character during logistics operations. Among all functional areas only transport lo­gis­tics is an obligatory component at any level of material flow management and in any logistical process.The main conclusion of the paper is that transport logistics is an integral part of the logistical system that provides technical, technological and economic consistency of all its subsystems and plays a decisive role in optimizing the management of material flows.

The steel industry, as the national representative strategic industry of our country, has played the motive power for the economic growth of Korea in 1970s as the positive support of the government and the management endeavor of the private were harmonized. However, in case of our country, we have mostly relied on import of the raw materials for the steel industry, and as the weight of the imported raw materials is heavy, the steel industry is the industry whose transport burden is big as it is called `transport industry`. So, the transport rationalization will be the important task of the steel industry. This study has analyzed the economic efficiency per the transport route (container ship vs bulk ship) of the sea transport related to import/export of the steel scrap on the level acquiring the stable supply of the steel scrap. For this, this study firstly researched the status of domestic/foreign steel industry. And analyzed the world crude steel production volume, steel scrap consumption volume and world steel scrap trading structure. Also, in order to compare the transport logistics expenses between two transport devices, namely, container ship and bulk ship, this study calculated the logistics expenses per ton by using the traffic hours and traffic expenses items as the imported/exported scrap freights of `D` company.

An important part of the S1 Vienna outer ring expressway is the tunnel under the Danube and Lobau with a length of 8.3 m. The ground to be tunnelled through is marked by Quaternary gravels and also by silt/clay with sand layers with low silt content. About 6 km are thus to be bored by two closed tunnel boring machines. A detailed material recycling plan for the entire S1 was produced for the processing of the excavation spoil. The excavated material was categorised according to its quality into various categories for appropriate recycling. The greatest possible free play for economic solutions has to be balanced with high requirements for the protection of people and the environment. Ein wesentlicher Bestandteil der S1 Wiener Ausenring Schnellstrase ist der Tunnel unter Donau und Lobau mit 8,3 km Lange. Der zu durchfahrende Untergrund ist gekennzeichnet durch quartare Kiese einerseits und Schluff/Ton mit schluffarmen Sandschichten andererseits. Rund 6 km sollen daher in geschlossener Bauweise mit zwei Tunnelbohrmaschinen hergestellt werden. Zur Abwicklung der anfallenden Ausbruchmassen wurde ein detailliertes Massenverwertungskonzept fur die gesamte S1 erstellt. Die anfallenden Massen wurden dazu nach ihrer Qualitat in mehrere Kategorien eingeteilt, die einer entsprechenden Verwertung zugefuhrt werden. Grostmogliche Spielraume fur wirtschaftliche Losungen sind dabei mit den hohen Anforderungen an den Schutz von Mensch und Umwelt in Einklang zu bringen.

Two transport policies with climate co-benefits for the intra-city and inter-city transport in Brazil are analysed. Both policies aim to shift transport from the road (cars in cities, trucks between cities) towards less energy-intensive transport modes (bus, underground, rail and shipping). The main motivations for these policies are domestic benefits, including reduced energy costs, fewer accidents, and reduced local congestion and pollution. Despite these apparent benefits, barriers and financing constraints limit the scale and scope of the policy formulation and are likely to further impact their implementation. While it is relatively easy to mobilize investment in transport logistics infrastructure at the national level, given the benefits for economic competitiveness for the country as a whole, it is more challenging to leverage funds to provide more efficient and integrated public transport systems at the city level. A formal approach for specifying and reasoning about earth-friendly logistics management systems is presented. To reduce fossil fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions resulting from transport, we must enhance the transport efficiency of trucks, which play an essential role as carriers in modern logistics services. This paper addresses the milk-run approach. It is one of the most effective and popular solutions to this problem, but it makes it be complicated to implement in a logistics management system. We propose a language for specifying the routes of trucks and an order relation between the requirements of routes and the possible routes of trucks. The former is formulated as process calculus and the latter selects suitable trucks according to their routes.

Growing ecological awareness of the society and increasing pressure from stakeholders cause that enterprises face new challenges, also the entities of the transport and logistics sector. This sector considerably brings about emission of pollutants of the natural environment. In the paper there is presented the essence and significance of environmentalism in the activity of enterprises, the importance of the environmental aspect in the operation of transport and logistics companies, the characteristics of well known, in the subject literature. The final part of the paper includes the case study of the Polish company from the transport and logistics sector as a role model of the company responsible for the natural environment, whose development of the environmental strategy brought about market success and competitive advantage in the industry.

Mammalian cells are involved in a range of biotechnological applications and more recently have been increasingly exploited in regenerative medicine. Critical to successful applications involving mammalian cells are their long-term storage and transport, for which cryopreservation in liquid nitrogen is the most frequently used strategy. However, cryopreservation suffers from high costs, difficulties in transport logistics and the use of undesirable additives (e.g. animal sera or DMSO). An alternative approach, proposed as low cost, low maintenance and process-compatible, is viable desiccation of mammalian cells. Several groups claim to have achieved this, but the extent of desiccation in the cell samples concerned is not always clear, in part because of difficulties in determining very low water content. Although several techniques exist that are frequently used to quantify the amount of water in samples (e.g. FTIR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), NMR spectroscopy), the complexity of sample preparation, as well as the costs and time constraints involved are disadvantageous. Here, we assess a novel, rapid and low cost technique, i.e. terahertz (THz) spectroscopy, for the quantification of water content within dehydrated mammalian cell samples.

Aufgrund aktueller budget��rer Restriktionen im Bereich des gesamten ��sterreichischen Bundesheeres ist die Diskussion um effizienten und kostensparenden Einsatz von Ressourcen entstanden. In diesem Zusammenhang ist das Ziel dieser Arbeit Potentiale zur Effizienzsteigerung auf dem Gebiet der Lagerhaltung und der damit verbundenen Transportlogistik im Bereich des Bundesheeres zu identifizieren. Der grundlegende Ansatz hierbei ist, durch Verringerung des Lagerbestandes eine Kostenreduktion herbeizuf��hren. Neben der Ber��cksichtigung von allgemeinen betriebswirtschaftlichen Aspekten wird die besondere Natur der milit��rischen Bevorratung, in Verbindung mit der bedarfsorientierten Bereitstellung und der daraus resultierenden zus��tzlichen Rahmenbedingungen, in einer gesamtheitlichen Betrachtung dargestellt. Um eine Lagerreduktion bei gleichbleibendem Servicegrad durchf��hren zu k��nnen wird im Gesamtsystem in weiterer Folge das umfassende Logistik- und Transportnetz betrachtet. Dadurch werden Schl��sselstellen der Transportlogistik im Zusammenhang mit den Ma��nahmen des Bestandsmanagements identifiziert. Nach einer Er��rterung der theoretischen Grundlagen erfolgt im Bereich des Lagers eine entsprechende Form der ABCXYZ-Analyse zur Klassifizierung der Lagerg��ter. Dies dient als Grundlage f��r die Definierung von Artikeln welche reduziert werden k��nnen. Beispielhaft wird hier ein Ersatzteillager herangezogen, da dies stellvertretend f��r gleichartige Lager dienen kann und die Erkenntnisse hochskaliert werden k��nnen. Die Auswirkungen davon werden gemeinsam mit der Transportlogistik analysiert. Diese wird dargestellt und die M��glichkeiten werden unter Betrachtung mehrerer Szenarien im Hinblick auf Auswirkungen in Schl��sselstellen erarbeitet. Aufgrund der dargestellten Szenarien und deren Realisierbarkeit kann die eingangs gestellte Hypothese zur Lagerbestandsreduzierung bei gleichbleibendem Servicegrad positiv beantwortet werden., Actual budget cuts within the Austrian Armed Forces lead to new approaches towards the use of limited resources. Better efficiency and cost saving measures gain more and more importance in today's view. Bearing this in mind the object of this study is the identification of potentials leading to better efficiency within the inventory management and the associated transport logistic of the Austrian Military. Primary field of study is the reduction of costs due to a reduction in inventory. One of the key facts that have to be considered are the differences between the military and civil environment. To achieve an inventory reduction but to keep the degree of service of the whole logistical system, this has to be depicted and analyzed to identify key points, which require increased attention. The method of an ABCXYZ-Analysis is used to determine the classification of the inventory and therefore identify goods reasonable for reduction. A spare parts store is used for this purpose. This is due to the fact that there are more similar types of this store in the whole system of the army. Finding can be therefore scaled up. Impact on the system of transport logistics which is depicted are then analyzed and key points identified. The possibilities regarding the key points are considered using the scenario technique. In reflection of the described scenarios and the possibility of their realization the initial assumption of an inventory reduction while keeping up the degree of service of the whole logistical system can be positively answered.

Russia is an example of an emerging market, which has experienced fast growth and significant changes in logistics and supply chain development over the last decade. Key trends in the Russian logistics market include: a rising demand for professional logistics services (outsourcing), growth in the number of players in the logistics market, the widening scope of services offered by logistics providers, the development of modern warehouses in Russian regions, and implementation of IT solutions supporting logistics management. Large foreign trade and industrial enterprises that came to the Russian market as well as retail chains expansion were the main factors stimulating the development of warehousing and transport logistics. However, business environment of this market still differs from developed markets in many ways and poses specific challenges for distribution strategy and supply chain design.

В рыночных условиях предприятиям и организациям, нуждающимся в перевозке грузов и пассажиров, приходится делать выбор выполнять перевозку самостоятельно или поручить ее контрагенту предприятию или частному лицу, имеющему в своем распоряжении подвижной состав и выполняющему перевозки на договорной основе. В современных условиях, предприятия и организации чаще прибегают к аутсорсингу, под которым понимается привлечение сторонних организаций для выполнения одной или нескольких функций или операций. Главным критерием выбора перевозчиков пассажиров является безопасность оказания услуги, поэтому использование только стоимостных методов недопустимо. При использовании многокритериальных методов остаются непроработанными вопросы определения относительной важности критериев и выбора шкал измерения. Таким образом, задача выбора перевозчика является распространенной, а проблема развития подходов к её решению остается актуальной. На основе требований нормативно-технической документации выделены частные критерии для выбора перевозчика пассажиров по заказам. Для определения значений критериев конкретного перевозчика предлагается использовать усеченную шкалу школьных оценок. Таким образом, каждый перевозчик характеризуется векторной оценкой из восьми частных критериев. Векторные оценки для выбора перевозчика удобно использовать при наличии информации об относительной важности критериев. Относительная важность критериев определялась экспертами в шкале Саати. В ходе итерационной процедуры определены значения вектора групповой оценки относительной важности критериев и вектора весовых коэффициентов компетентности экспертов. Результаты исследования по определению экспертных предпочтений частных критериев различными методами показали, что ранги частных критериев совпадают. Это указывает на строгую линейную упорядоченность критериев. На основе полученной информации о предпочтениях экспертов, предлагается использовать подход к выбору перевозчика пассажиров на основе парето-оптимальных решений многокритериальных задач., Enterprises and organizations in need of goods and passengers carriage in the market conditions have to make a choice to fulfill their own transportation or have its counterpart the company or a private person who has in his possession rolling stock and transports on a contractual basis. Under current conditions, companies and organizations increasingly resort to outsourcing, which refers to the involvement of outside organizations to perform one or more functions or operations. The main criterion for selection is the safety of carriers of passengers of the service, so only use cost methods unacceptable. When using multi-criteria methods are worked through the issues of determining the relative importance of criteria and the choice of measurement scales. Thus, the task of choosing a common carrier and the development of approaches to problem solving it remains relevant. As the main criterion for choosing a carrier of passengers is recommended to use the safety performance of the service. On the basis of the requirements of normative-technical documentation allocated particular criteria to select the carrier of passengers by orders. In order to determine the specific criteria of the carrier is proposed to use a truncated scale of school grades. Thus, each carrier is characterized by a vector of eight private assessment criteria. Vector estimates for carrier selection is useful when there is information about the relative importance of the criteria. The relative importance of the criteria defined by experts in the Saaty scale. In the course of the iterative procedure, the values of the vector group to assess the relative importance of criteria and the weight vector competence of experts. The results of studies on the expert p References of individual criteria by different methods showed that the ranks of private criteria match. This points to a strict linear ordering criteria. Based on the information about the p References of experts proposed an approach to the selection of the carrier of passengers on the basis of a Pareto optimal solution of multi-criteria problems.

The aim of the paper is to identify the problems in transportation, from manufacturing the product until its delivery to the customer, measuring losses and their impacts. RESUMEN: En los últimos años la evolución de los dispositivos móviles ha crecido enormemente ofreciendo una serie de servicios prácticamente equiparados a los que un ordenador tradicional puede ofrecer, pero disponibles en cualquier lugar con mucha más autonomía. Su uso está tan extendido que la mayoría de las personas posee al menos uno de estos dispositivos. Este enorme crecimiento ha obligado prácticamente a todas las empresas a ofrecer sus servicios adaptados para este tipo de plataformas, ya sea desarrollando una versión web para móviles, aplicaciones “multiplataforma” mediante el uso de frameworks, o directamente involucrándose en el desarrollo de aplicaciones nativas para los sistemas operativos móviles más utilizados. Este proyecto tiene como objetivo principal el desarrollo de una aplicación para dispositivos Android (teléfonos móviles, tabletas, sistemas empotrados, etc.), llamada TST Logistics, que de soporte al control de logística de una empresa de transportes y facilite el trabajo a los conductores de la empresa. Esta aplicación trabajará de forma conjunta con un servidor externo que aloja una aplicación web, ya desarrollada, que les sirve a los encargados de flotas de la empresa para comunicarse con los conductores. ABSTRACT: Evolution of mobile devices has grown enormously in the last years, leading to mobile devices providing a lot of services, practically equivalent to those provided by traditional computers, but available anywhere and with much more autonomy. Their usage is so extended that most people have at least one mobile device. This huge growth has led to most of the companies to offer their services adapted to this kind of platforms: developing web versions of the applications for mobile devices, multiplatform applications based on dedicated frameworks or evolving to the development of native applications targeted to the most used mobile operating systems. The objective of this project is to develop an application for Android devices (mobile phones, tablets, embedded systems, etc.), named TST Logistics, which will support the logistics control of a transportation company and facilitate the company drivers work. This application will work together with a remote server, which hosts a web application, already developed, which helps the company fleet managers to communicate with the drivers. The "state-of-the-art" of the present global European situationis in desperate need for a new approach to development ofurban and rural environment with an interdisciplinary approach,when introducing the elements of transport infrastructureand transport infrastructure landscape into space and environment.In order to reach a decision regarding the location of a certaintransport logistic terminal some constraints (technical andtechnological as well as financial) should be considered. Aspart of the process trying to respond to these constraints, associatedprimarily with the traffic conditions at the appointed networklocations, a careful evaluation in respect to cargo flowsand infrastructure connections as well as spatial planningshould be performed.M01phological indicators, which directly and indirectly affectthe structure and the form of the transport infrastructure elements- transport logistic terminals, are extracted and presentedin the paper. At this point, the paper concludes that thelaying down and the evaluation of transport infrastructure elementsare based on two categories of morphological elements:Constructed morphological elements (all constntctionsand their elements), andNatural morphological elements (topography, climate, vegetation,etc.).The presented spatial methodology deals with the interactionsbetween the constructed and natural morphological elements- the quality and the characteristics of the design areadded to both groups.Findings and projections acquired on the basis of a spatialevaluation and transport logistic analysis constitute, togetherwith financial-economic assumptions, the basis for elaboratinga business plan - a significant element in the decision-makingprocess regarding the development of a transport logistic terminal.

Over the past decade, several research initiatives have researched and proposed innovative solutions for transport logistics, but the level of adoption in the transport industry has been low, in particular in comparison with other industry sectors. This is on one side related to the transport industry itself, facing issues like market fragmentation, price pressure and a high degree of outsourcing, and on the other caused by a lack in dissemination strategies towards relevant stakeholders being indentified in several logistics innovation projects. The EU-funded project Loginn—Logistic Innovation Uptake aims at coordinating and supporting research, technology and development (RTD) projects in the logistics area to improve their capabilities to bridge the gap between pilot implementation and marketable solutions. At the same time, the project aims at disseminating innovative logistics practices, technologies and business models to the logistics community, thus establishing an information hub for logistics innovation and contributing to education and training of logistics enterprises’ employees. Based on the research results, Loginn will develop a “Logistics Innovation Action Plan” for Europe.

En el artículo se hace un seguimiento a las relaciones comerciales de la industria manufacturera colombiana en el mercado interno, analizando el sentido y magnitud de la carga movilizada por vía terrestre, con lo cual se pretende identificar algunos enclaves sectoriales y regionales de la industria que podrían ser estratégicos para la diversificación del mercado y promover lógicas de encadenamiento productivo. Las estimaciones de los movimientos de carga terrestre se hacen con base en la Encuesta de origen-destino, del Ministerio de Tránsito y Transporte, para el período 2008, y los flujos a nivel regional y sectorial se proyectan en un modelo de redes geodésicas. Los resultados permiten advertir que las diferencias regionales en la especialización productiva explican el movimiento de carga de industrias específicas, mientras que en otros casos no se advierten flujos importantes por tratarse básicamente de industrias de consumo local. This paper tracks the transport logistics of the Colombian manufacturing industry in the domestic market, analyzing the direction and the volume of the cargo moved by road. The study is intended to identify some sectorial and regional enclaves of the industry that could be strategic for market diversification and to facilitate production chains. Estimates of land freight movements are made based on the origin-destination survey carried out by the Ministry of Transportation in 2008. The different regional and sectorial flows are projected through a geodetic network model. The results indicate that regional differences in product specialization explain the movement of cargo from specific industries, while in other cases there are no significant flows because the industries largely serve local markets.

Laboratory-based CD4 monitoring of HIV patients presents challenges in resource limited settings (RLS) including frequent machine breakdown, poor engineering support and limited cold chain and specimen transport logistics. This study assessed the performance of two CD4 tests designed for use in RLS; the Dynal assay and the Alere PIMA test (PIMA). This paper presents an autonomous multiagent system which optimizes the planning and scheduling of industrial processes using the example of courier and express services. In order to handle the rising demands and to capitalize on the increasing optimization potential in transport logistics, which both result from the consequent integration of industrial processes into the Internet of Things and Services, the presented dispAgent solution ensures a flexible, adaptive, and proactive system behavior. Intelligent, selfishly acting agents represent logistic entities, which communicate and negotiate with each other to optimize the allocation of orders to transport facilities. The system has been developed in cooperation with our industrial partner tiramizoo, which is an expert in courier and express services. In order to determine the quality of the computed solutions, we evaluated the system using an established benchmark set and compared the results to best-known solutions. In addition, we further validated the system's performance by multiple simulations of real-world scenarios relying on data which was provided by our industrial partner. The results show that the system achieves high quality solutions for the benchmark set and outperforms a standard dispatching software product in real-world scenarios.

This paper considers a new class of scheduling problems arising in logistics systems in which two different transportation modes are available at the stage of product delivery. The mode with the shorter transportation time charges a higher cost. Each job ordered by the customer is first processed in the manufacturing facility and then transported to the customer. There is a due date for each job to arrive to the customer. Our approach integrates the machine scheduling problem in the manufacturing stage with the transportation mode selection problem in the delivery stage to achieve the global maximum benefit. In addition to studying the NP-hard special case in which no tardy job is allowed, we consider in detail the problem when minimizing the sum of the total transportation cost and the total weighted tardiness cost is the objective. We provide a branch and bound algorithm with two different lower bounds. The effectiveness of the two lower bounds is discussed and compared. We also provide a mathematical model that is solvable by CPLEX. Computational results show that our branch and bound algorithm is more efficient than CPLEX. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Cadarache, the European site for ITER, is located at around 50 km as the crow flies from the sea. The feasibility of the transport of large and heavy ITER components has thus been thoroughly studied. These studies have covered the following items: • possible itineraries between the most convenient harbour (Fos) and Cadarache; • packaging (in particular for the largest and heaviest components); • means of transport (two types of trailers allowing to avoid lifting and load transfers); • logistics (analysis of transfer kinematics, including temporary storage); • administrative procedures and planning for the road adaptation, taking benefit of the recent successful implementation in the south-west of France of an itinerary for the Airbus A380 components. These studies, performed between 2001 and 2003, led to a viable solution, with a reasonable cost, fully supported by the French authorities. The planning necessary to implement the road modifications is also fully compatible with the expected dates of ITER components delivery.

On-farm milk segregation to keep milk with high value properties separate from bulk milk will affect transport logistics. Separate milk collection, either as independent runs for different milk types, or storage of distinct milk types in the truck and trailer units, may increase the length and number of runs required. Two contrasting regions (representing the North and South Islands of New Zealand), with different farm sizes and roading networks were modelled, at two stages of lactation (peak and late) over 20 years. Thirty farms in each region were modelled with 0, 25, 50 and 100% of farms per region changing milk types over a transition period of up to 18 years. Genetic algorithm software was used to search for the order of the farm milk collection pick-ups which gave an optimal, least cost solution for milk collection for each prescribed set of inputs. Milk collection costs within scenario were variable over time depending on the amounts of the different milk types, increasing whenever another run was required, then decreasing over time as the milk load increased. Milk collection cost is small relative to milk income, with the status quo (SQ) cost for milk collection being less than NZ$9.61/kl for the North Island and NZ$13.53/kl for the South Island farm sets. The increased transport costs associated with collecting two milk types ranged from 4.5 to 22.0% more for the different scenarios. The extra cost to an average size North Island farm changing systems (25% farms changing), compared to an equivalent status quo farm, would be between NZ$307 and NZ$1244 per year. Fewer farms changing to differentiated milk production increased the costs per kilolitre of differentiated milk.

The main advantages of using GIS technologies for logistics tasks in solving transportation problems are considered. The composition of the type of geographic information system used to solve the problems of transport logistics is shown.

As market relations become more pervasive, so the classical sociological issue of the tension between ‘economic’ and ‘social’ explanations becomes more salient than ever. Michel Callon has proposed that the Actor-Network Theory (A-NT) developed in science and technology studies provides a useful approach to this tension. In this article we outline his innovatively traditional ‘market test’ of A-NT, and then test and illustrate it through a contract between an Australian company and a transport logistics consortium that it fostered under changing conditions in its market. We exemplify Callon’s case for the co-emergence of calculative and cultural effects, and conclude that business in action is a promising research site for their global reconfiguration.

A cross-sectional survey was conducted with firms in three transport logistics industry sectors, i.e., air and sea transport, freight forwarding, and third-party logistics services, to evaluate their perceived SCP in transport logistics from both cost and service perspectives. The study results showed that all the three sectors were mature, attaining a certain degree of sophistication in their SCP. On the other hand, there were significant differences in SCP between firms in the three sectors. They differed in their perceived service effectiveness towards shippers and consignees and in their operations efficiency in performing the services. The study's findings provide managerial insights for firms in the industry to understand their SCP in transport logistics and to benchmark areas to improve their performance.

This study presents an assessment of supply chain performance (SCP) in transport logistics by service providers in the transport logistics industry in Hong Kong. The industry is broadly defined as encompassing firms involved in the business of serving the physical flows of goods from a point of origin, i.e. shippers, to a point of destination, i.e. consignees, in a supply chain. These firms include those in sea transport, freight forwarding, air transport and third-party logistics services. A cross-sectional survey was conducted with firms in the industry to evaluate their perceived SCP in transport logistics and the attached importance from both cost and service perspectives. The study findings provide managerial insights for firms in the industry to understand their SCP in transport logistics and benchmark areas for performance improvement.

Multiagent models for constructing the needs-and-means networks in open systems were presented together with an example of using them in transport logistics.

This study aims to investigate the construct of, and develop a measurement instrument for, supply chain performance (SCP) in transport logistics. Based on the supply chain operations reference model and various established measures, a measurement model and a measurement instrument for SCP in transport logistics are developed. A 26-item SCP measurement instrument was constructed, reflecting service effectiveness for shippers, operations efficiency for transport logistics service providers, and service effectiveness for consignees. The empirical findings suggest that the measurement instrument is reliable and valid for evaluating SCP in transport logistics.

A conductive passive structure for miniature RFID tags is manufactured with a europractice MetalMUMPS technology. The antennas are co-located with a micro mechanical temperature sensor manufactured on the same silicon chip. The envisioned application of this RFID tag is monitoring of the cooling chain for transport logistics. The necessary design steps for the UHF/UWB On-Chip Antennas are described in detail. The manufactured prototypes are measured with a network analyser and presented in this paper.

Getting information about the state of controlled objects by using GLONASS / GPS / GSM / GPRS-terminals. On the basis of the model implemented complex software system that provides visualization of the results of the study and control of the system. This system is focused on small and medium logistics enterprise implements all major features popular in the market counterparts., Запропоновано модель системи моніторингу руху транспортних засобів логістичного підприємства, яка дозволяє оптимізувати та відслідковувати маршрут транспортування вантажу з пункту відправки в пункт призначення. Для планування оптимального маршруту руху транспортування вантажу використано один з найбільш ефективних алгоритмів розв’язання задачі про найкоротший шлях – алгоритм Дейкстри. Розроблено структурну схему супутникової системи моніторингу транспортних засобів, яка складається із супутників, рухомого об’єкта, на якому розміщені датчики та модулі, мережі GSM та Internet, сервера обробки інформації та клієнтського програмного забезпеченням. Отримання інформації про стан контрольованих об'єктів здійснюється за допомогою ГЛОНАСС/GPS/GSM/GPRS-терміналів. На основі розробленої моделі реалізовано програмний комплекс системи, що здійснює візуалізацію результатів дослідження та керування функціонуванням системи. Дана система орієнтована на малі та середні логістичні підприємства, реалізовує всі основні функції популярних на ринку аналогів.
