After being neglected since the establishment of the housing market in the 1990s, China has recently shown great enthusiasm for developing the housing rental market. It is essential to understand why people choose private renting as it enables us to better identify the demands of tenants and develop policies accordingly to promote private renting. However, at the micro-level, the determinants for people's renting intention have rarely been studied in the Chinese context. This paper aims to examine what specific underlying beliefs, as well as background factors, influence people's private renting intention in China's metropolises. Using the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), we designed questionnaires and collected personal data from 476 private renters living in Shenzhen. We found people had generally favorable attitudes, supportive subjective norms, and high perceived behavioral control of private renting in Shenzhen. Results from a path analysis suggest that people's renting intention was most influenced by their attitudes toward renting, followed by subjective norms and perceived behavioral control. In addition, marital status and some underlying behavioral, normative, and control beliefs were also found to have significant influences on renting intention. Based on our findings, some recommendations were proposed to promote private renting, such as advertising the advantages of renting to the public, enhancing the sense of belonging of renters, and expanding the rental housing supply.

ObjectiveTryptophan can be catabolised to various metabolites through host kynurenine and microbial indole pathways. We aimed to examine relationships of host and microbial tryptophan metabolites with incident type 2 diabetes (T2D), host genetics, diet and gut microbiota.MethodWe analysed associations between circulating levels of 11 tryptophan metabolites and incident T2D in 9180 participants of diverse racial/ethnic backgrounds from five cohorts. We examined host genome-wide variants, dietary intake and gut microbiome associated with these metabolites.ResultsTryptophan, four kynurenine-pathway metabolites (kynurenine, kynurenate, xanthurenate and quinolinate) and indolelactate were positively associated with T2D risk, while indolepropionate was inversely associated with T2D risk. We identified multiple host genetic variants, dietary factors, gut bacteria and their potential interplay associated with these T2D-relaetd metabolites. Intakes of fibre-rich foods, but not protein/tryptophan-rich foods, were the dietary factors most strongly associated with tryptophan metabolites. The fibre-indolepropionate association was partially explained by indolepropionate-associated gut bacteria, mostly fibre-usingFirmicutes. We identified a novel association between a host functionalLCTvariant (determining lactase persistence) and serum indolepropionate, which might be related to a host gene-diet interaction on gutBifidobacterium, a probiotic bacterium significantly associated with indolepropionate independent of other fibre-related bacteria. Higher milk intake was associated with higher levels of gutBifidobacteriumand serum indolepropionate only among genetically lactase non-persistent individuals.ConclusionHigher milk intake among lactase non-persistent individuals, and higher fibre intake were associated with a favourable profile of circulating tryptophan metabolites for T2D, potentially through the host–microbial cross-talk shifting tryptophan metabolism toward gut microbial indolepropionate production.

Prostate cancer (PCa), the second most common male malignancy, is the fifth leading cause of cancer-related death and places notable burdens on medical resources. Most of the previous subtypes only focused on one or fewer types of data or ignored the genomic heterogeneity among PCa patients with diverse genetic backgrounds. Therefore, it is essential to precisely identify the specific molecular features and judge potential clinical outcomes based on multi-omics data. In the current study, we first identified the PCa multi-omics classification (PMOC) system based on the multi-omics, including mRNA, miRNA, lncRNA, DNA methylation, and gene mutation, using a total of ten state-of-the-art clustering algorithms. The PMOC1 subtype, also called the inflammatory subtype, contains the highest expression levels of immune checkpoint proteins, moderate activated immune-associated pathways. The PMOC2 tumor-activated subtype demonstrated the worst prognosis, which might be impacted by the activated cell cycle and DNA repair pathways, and also characterized by the most genetic alterations of mutant TP53, mutant APC and copy number alteration of 8q24.21 region. The PMOC3 subtype is likely to be a balance subtype, with the activated oncogenic signaling pathways, including hypoxia, angiogenesis, epithelial mesenchymal transition, and PI3K/AKT pathways. As well as with the activated proinflammatory pathways, including IL6/JAK/STAT3, IL2/STAT5, Notch and TNF-α signaling. Additionally, PMOC3 subtype also linked with the activation of the androgen response and the high response rate of ARSI treatment. Taken together, we defined the PMOC system for PCa patients via multi-omics data and consensus results of ten algorithms, this multi-omics consensus PCa molecular classification can further assist in the precise clinical treatment and development of targeted therapy.

GLUT5 (Glucose transporter type 5), as a specific fructose transporter in mammalian cells, has also been found highly expressed in many cancers.Methods:In this study, we investigated the abilities of proliferation, colony formation, and migration of ovarian cancer cells in fructose medium, and then silenced GLUT5 in ovarian cancer cells to explore the role GLUT5 in fructose metabolism in ovarian cancer.Results: The results showed that the ovarian cancer cells had similar abilities of proliferation and migration in fructose medium and glucose medium, but silencing GLUT5 could significantly inhibit these abilities in fructose medium. Meanwhile, we found that GLUT5 was higher expressed in ovarian cancer tissues, and its expression correlated significantly with tumor malignancy and poor survival of ovarian cancer patients. Furthermore, the results of animal experiments also demonstrated that intake too much fructose could prominently increase tumor volume, and silencing GLUT5 could significantly inhibit tumor proliferation.Conclusion:In conclusion, we demonstrate that ovarian cancer cells could utilize fructose for their growth, and restricting the fructose intake or targeting GLUT5 may be efficacious strategies for ovarian cancer therapy.Keywords: fructose, GLUT5, ovarian cancer

The Crab pulsar and the surrounding nebula powered by the pulsar's rotational energy through the formation and termination of a relativistic electron-positron wind is a bright source of gamma-rays carrying crucial information about this complex conglomerate. We report the detection of $\gamma$-rays with a spectrum showing gradual steepening over three energy decades, from $5\times 10^{-4}$ to $1.1$ petaelectronvolt (PeV). The ultra-high-energy photons exhibit the presence of a PeV electron accelerator (a pevatron) with an acceleration rate exceeding 15% of the absolute theoretical limit. Assuming that unpulsed $\gamma$-rays are produced at the termination of the pulsar's wind, we constrain the pevatron's size, between $0.025$ and $0.1$ pc, and the magnetic field $\approx 110 \mu$G. The production rate of PeV electrons, $2.5 \times 10^{36}$ erg $\rm s^{-1}$, constitutes 0.5% of the pulsar's spin-down luminosity, although we do not exclude a non-negligible contribution of PeV protons to the production of the highest energy $\gamma$-rays., Comment: 43 pages, 13 figures, 2 tables; Published in Science

We explore the magnetically-ordered ground state of the isovalently-substituted Mott-insulator Y$_{1-x}$La$_{x}$TiO$_{3}$ for $x$ $\leq$ 0.3 via single crystal growth, magnetometry, neutron diffraction, x-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD), muon spin rotation ($\mu$SR) and small-angle neutron scattering (SANS). We find that the decrease in the magnetic transition temperature on approaching the ferromagnetic (FM) - antiferromagnetic (AFM) phase boundary at the La concentration $x_c$ $\approx$ 0.3 is accompanied by a strong suppression of both bulk and local ordered magnetic moments, along with a volume-wise separation into magnetically-ordered and paramagnetic regions. The thermal phase transition does not show conventional second-order behavior, since neither a clear signature of dynamic critical behavior nor a power-law divergence of the magnetic correlation length is found for the studied substitution range; this finding becomes increasingly obvious with substitution. Finally, from SANS and magnetometry measurements, we discern a crossover from easy-axis to easy-plane magneto-crystalline anisotropy with increasing La substitution. Biological microswimmers are known to navigate upstream of an external flow (positive rheotaxis) in trajectories ranging from linear, spiral to oscillatory. Such rheotaxis stems from the interplay between the motion and complex shapes of the microswimmers, e.g. the chirality of the rotating flagella, the shear flow characteristics, and the hydrodynamic interaction with a confining surface. Here, we show that an isotropic, active droplet microswimmer exhibits a unique oscillatory rheotaxis in a microchannel despite its simple spherical geometry. The swimming velocity, orientation, and the chemical wake of the active droplet undergo periodic variations between the confining walls during the oscillatory navigation. Using a hydrodynamic model and concepts of dynamical systems, we demonstrate that the oscillatory rheotaxis of the active droplet emerges primarily from the interplay between the hydrodynamic interaction of the finite-sized microswimmer with all the microchannel walls, and the shear flow characteristics. Such oscillatory rheotactic behavior is different from the directed motion near a planar wall observed previously for artificial microswimmers in shear flows. Our results provide a realistic understanding of the behaviour of active particles in confined microflows, as will be encountered in majority of the applications like targeted drug delivery.
