Introduction and Objective: Disability has an individualized character, both in terms of causes and effects, including limitation of locomotor skills. This is the problem to a great extent determining the level of daily functioning and the quality of life. The aim of the study was assessment of locomotor capabilities according to the demographic, social and health characteristics, and the frequency of problems of daily life according to the scope of locomotor capabilities., Material and Methods: The study included 676 disabled aged 19-98; mean age 64. The survey was carried out using a standardized Disability Questionnaire., Results: Statistically significant differences in categories of locomotor capabilities were observed according to age, education, material standard, housing conditions, legal disability status, and degrees of disability. Ten problems varying in intensity occurred according to the scope of independent moving around: material difficulties, difficulties in settling office matters, loneliness (P<0.0001), too infrequent contacts with the family, negative attitude of surroundings towards disability, material dependence on others, lack of care by relatives and friends, difficult access to environmental nurse, difficult access to services from social worker, necessity of caring for a disabled person., Conclusions: Locomotor capabilities of the disabled decrease over 64. Low level of education, material standard and poor housing conditions are associated with decreased capabilities for independent moving around without limitations. The types and number of problems with which the disabled struggle depends on the scope of their capabilities for independent moving around. In every dimension of functioning disability belongs to the scope of issues of public health.

Background: Although there is a need for gender-specific health care, especially within the context of vocational rehabilitation for youth with disabilities, clinicians, trainees, and community service providers commonly report lacking training in gender-sensitive approaches. Therefore, an educational tool designed for clinicians working with youth, that addresses how to approach such issues, could help clinicians to augment the care they provide., Objective: The objective of our study was to conduct a pilot evaluation of an educational simulation for health care and service providers focusing on gender-sensitive approaches within the context of supporting youth with disabilities in vocational rehabilitation., Methods: We conducted a survey from May to September 2021 to assess the relevance of the simulation content, preliminary perceived impact on gender-sensitive knowledge and confidence, and open-ended feedback of a web-based gender-sensitive educational simulation. A total of 12 health care providers from a variety of professions who had experience working with youth in the context of vocational rehabilitation participated in the survey (11 women and 1 man)., Results: Most participants reported that the content of the simulation was relevant and comprehensive. The majority of participants reported that the simulation helped to increase their perceived knowledge or understanding of the topic, changed their perceived understanding of their intervention or approach, and informed their perceived confidence. Our qualitative findings from the open-ended questions highlighted three main themes: (1) relevance of the simulation content, (2) perceived impact for clinical practice (ie, gender-sensitive language and communication and building rapport with patients), and (3) perceived impact on organizational processes (ie, practices, policy, and privacy)., Conclusions: Our educational simulation shows preliminary potential as an educational tool for service providers working with youth who have a disability within the context of vocational rehabilitation. Background: The aim of this review of the literature was to find and summarize relevant research evidence available within the scientific sources and gray literature in accordance with the JBI recommendations. Search question: What effect does Basal Stimulation have on the cognitive-behavioral functions or temperament of a preterm or disabled infant?, Methods: The following sources were searched: PSYCINFO, MEDLINE, PsycArticles, ERIC, Wiley Online Library, ProQuest Scopus, WOS, JSTOR, Google Scholar, and MedNar. The study contains an analysis of texts that have been published in the English, Czech, and German languages. The search time span was set at 15 years., Results: A total of 15 sources were found for the specified topic., Conclusions: In all cases, there was confirmation about the positive influence of the concept of "Basal Stimulation" on the cognitive-behavioral functions and temperament of premature and disabled children.

Objectives: To find out the attitude of the general population towards disabled individuals. Study Design: Cross-sectional study design. Place and Duration of Study: Rawalpindi/Islamabad, from Nov 2021 to Apr 2022. Methodology: The attitude towards physical disability was assessed by including 2 separate standardised scales and was divided into 3 parts; i) the Demographics, ii) the ATDP scale, and iii) CDP scale. The data was collected through google forms because of the pandemic. The sample size was 166. The data analysis was performed on SPSS 25.0. Result: Out of 166(100%) participants in the study, 137(82.5%) lived in urban areas and the mean age was 22 years. Out of which 38(22.9%) participants reported to have higher education. People from various professions participated in the research. The CDP scale showed 104(62.7%) participants had low contact, 45(27.5%) had no contact and 17(10.2%) had a high contact. The mean ATDP score was 72.12% showing a positive attitude overall. The attitude was not significantly associated with contact (p-0.405), education (p-0.342), gender (p-0.870), income (p-0.605), and presence of doctor in the family (p-0.893). Conclusion: This research concluded that the attitude towards the disabled of the general population of twin cities was positive. Contact, presence of doctors within the family and demographic factors; income, education, and gender had no association in determining the attitude of the general population towards the disabled. Thus, inferring that our education and doctors are not making enough of a difference and moral education should be further stressed upon. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The main feature of medical and social rehabilitation of persons with disabilities in the Trans-Baikal Territory is a feature of the climate – a short warm season and a long period with negative temperatures up to-40 C and lower in the winter, which does not use some of the objects in the winter. Although there are establishments all year round use. These data allow us to conclude that sport, in this case – horse is one of the important forms of technology Rehabilitation. Our results showed significant positive changes in terms of rehabilitation of persons with disabilities when using hippotherapy. This is a cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach, establishing the epidemiological profile of people with physical disabilities resident in the municipality of Florianópolis, in the Southern Brazilian state of Santa Catarina, and analyzing it in relation to the public policies related to that population. The minimum sample was determined by a statistical calculation, considering the population of the municipality with disabilities, according to data from the 2010 Population Census. The data were collected using an electronic form installed in mobile devices and stored at an online provider. The data were analyzed and handled with the software Statistical Package for the Social Sciences. A total of 139 questionnaires were processed. A separation of the results was made using these categories: Individual attributes; Social attributes; and Characteristics related to disability. As well as the descriptive profile of the disabled people, the study analyses and discusses the distance, worldwide and in Brazil, between the proposals for public policies and the actual actions of care directed towards the rights of these people. The conclusion is that there is a fundamental need to act in relation to the real needs of this population and consolidate proposals for health promotion, health protection and health rehabilitation for them. This study was carried out in order to determine the effect of physical disability (paraplegia) and sensory disability (deafness) on motor skills of the upper limbs. Studies were distinguished by two parameters: the nature of the control curve (sine or random) and the magnitude of the isometric force exerted on the lever (10N, 20N, 40N, 80N). A comparison of the quality of manual force control in a visual detection task among groups of people with sensory disability (deaf), people with physical disability (paraplegic) and people without disability showed differences among those groups. Values of force above 20N create conditions of lower quality of control and of direction of force exertion outside the body. At the same time, the study proved that people with some types of disability can perform certain work tasks as effectively as people without disability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Social inclusion has been more discussed in society. The literature points increasing role of companies in facing this social inclusion programs. The aim of this study was to evaluate the Project Ambassadors of Joy (Projetos Embaixadores da Alegria), which uses the carnival as a tool for social inclusion. The multimethod research (document analysis, questionnaires and interviews) included 538 people (beneficiaries, family members, community members, administrators, funders and implementers of the project). The design was a quasi-experiment that examined whether participation in the program increased awareness of social inclusion. The results of the t test demonstrated that the project achieved its objectives only partially because there was no significant difference in relation to favorability to school inclusion between treatment group and control group. As a complement, in the content analysis, we identified five categories related to procedural aspects and results of the project, namely: (i) family participation; (ii) forms of communication; (iii) mobility; (iv) employment and income generation; and (v) social inclusion. The article presents the results of the survey on the preferences of disabled people in wheelchairs for selected features recreational trails in the woods. The study was conducted in 2015, including a sample of 130 people older than 18 years, in Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia (52 interviews in Poland, 21 in the Czech Republic and 57 in Slovakia). Respondents were interviewed both at the premises of the organisation as well as by email. The questions in the survey were designed to determine the preferences of the respondents in terms of recreational trails in the forests concerned: the optimal length of the route, recreational and educational points along the distribution routes of and usability of different types of forest roads. The results show that there is quite a lot of differences between the preferences of respondents from each of the analysed countries. Respondents from the Poland and Slovakia prefer shorter routes for recreation in forests, with a greater incidence of recreational and educational points along the route, whilst respondents in the Czech Republic prefer far longer routes, with a relatively larger distance between recreational points. In all the analysed countries, people with disabilities attributed highest usefulness to asphalt surfaces, concrete surfaces or surfaces made of cobblestones. The physically disabled persons represent a special group of the transportation disadvantaged who have suffered many deprivations. The study explores the travel patterns and some of the challenges being encountered by the physically disabled in Jos, Nigeria. Using the questionnaire and focus group discussion methods, the study found that the respondents are of low social and economic statuses. Walking, with enormous time and energy costs, is the most common means of travel among the group. Commercial vehicle drivers apparently hardly attend to the transportation needs of the group even when they can afford the fare. The physically disabled persons view this 'injustice' as a reflection of a whole gamut of perceived discriminatory policies of the 'able' society to isolate and disempower them. There is therefore a deep-seated feeling of resentment among the physically disabled towards society's perceived apathy, marginalization and discrimination that manifest even in access to transportation. They believe that the social and physical environments are deliberately hostile to them. Any plans to alleviate the transportation problems of the disabled and integrate them into the mainstream of the economic and social activities of the larger society should address, fundamentally, these perceived marginalization and injustices. Background: Dental caries is the most common dental problem among the mentally challenged children. There are various extra-oral factors responsible for high caries experience among such children.Aim: The aim of the present investigation was to study the impact of various extra-oral factors on dental caries experience among mentally challenged children residing in Bhopal city, Central India.Materials and Methods: One hundred and fifty-two children between the age group 5 and 15 years were included in this descriptive cross-sectional study. A pretested pro forma was used to record information about socioeconomic status, demographic data, mental retardation (MR) type, and intelligent quotient. The clinical examination was performed to evaluate dental caries and treatment needs using the World Health Organization dentition status and treatment needs index.Results: The mean decayed, missing, and filled teeth (DMFT and dmft) were 2.32 and 2.21, respectively. Age, parent occupation, income, and intelligent quotient were significant predictors of both DMFT and dmft. In addition, socio-economic status and type of MR were significant predictors of only DMFT.Conclusion: Dental health professionals should, therefore, be aware of the various extra-oral factors responsible for high caries experience of mentally challenged children. The patients, the elderly and disabled people (with physical and/or psychological limits because of their ages or disabilities) constitute a substantial part of society. Library and library services are known to play therapeutic roles in their lives. Therefore, either as a branch of a public library or independently, the libraries should endeavour to develop services for their needs, taking into account the special conditions and circumstances of the patients, the elderly and the disabled. The latest version of these guidelines was published and compiled by a working group lead by Nancy Mary Panella in 2000 and it aimed to identify the essential features of such services and to provide suggestions tailored to local needs and circumstances. Background Family members play a major role in providing care for older people and long-term dependent patients, especially in developing countries where there is a lack of specialized nursing homes and specialized home-visiting programs. Family members are rarely provided with sufficient information or training to provide home care for their dependent relatives. There are inadequate home caregiving educational resources directed to Arabic-speaking caregivers, either in written or in audiovisual presentations. Objectives The aims of the present study were (i) to present the process of designing a caregiving educational program entitled ‘there is a dependent patient in our home’, with an intention to be culturally and linguistically appropriate for a specific Arab-speaking population, and (ii) to present the experience of disseminating the program through YouTube, to be accessible for a wide range of caregivers. Materials and methods The program was a product of a process involving seven phases, starting with a review of the literature and ending with disseminating 17 short ‘caregiving’ videos on YouTube, the most popular video-sharing website. The program presented necessary skills, instructions, and information that enabled caregivers to provide safe and competent daily caring activities for their functionally dependent relative or older adults at home. Results The program was registered in the Jordan National Library. After 2 months of broadcasting it on YouTube, the number of views exceeded 6800. Many constructive comments were received from caregivers. Language, simplicity, and attractiveness of the program were judged as the areas of satisfaction by the viewers, whereas lack of a few topics such as verbal communication with patients and dealing with daily caregivers’ burden and stressors were the main reasons of dissatisfaction. Conclusion This program was an endeavor to provide the Arabic library with a home caregiving resource. Adequate advertisement of the program would encourage health providers to search for and use the currently available social media as means of delivering educational services to family caregivers. This article describes part of a mixed-method study investigating family and professional perspectives on home adaptations for disabled children. The methods were an online survey of staff involved in adaptations processes (n=39), semi-structured interviews with families with disabled children (n= 48) and an online survey for families (n= 16). One of the wider study’s recommendations was that families need to be enabled to engage with processes proactively. This article focuses on families’ experiences of the meaning attributed to adapting the home and highlights that, although satisfied with the completed adaptation, families were dissatisfied with the process they had been through. Thus, despite the need for the meaning of home being central to the adaptation process, families felt excluded from the process as it progressed. This had a negative impact on the continuing use of the adaptation and affected the meaning of home for families with a disabled child. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

Contemporary Shona society in Zimbabwe has witnessed the mushrooming of organisations meant to protect the disabled and the vulnerable. In addition, empowering legislative measures have been put in place. In most cases, however, such efforts bear limited fruits, especially because they are not in sync with Shona practice. They are pursued as if the Shona people had never known the existence and observance of human rights and privileges. Using the Afrocentricity theory and drawing examples from the Shona ngano (folktale) genre, this article posits that Shona oral traditions are laden with the indigenous people's philosophy and approach to various kinds of impairments and disadvantages which can be adopted and adapted by contemporary societies. Background and Aim: There have been disabled people in every society. Disabled who employed and working in organizations has less ability in physical and motor area, so it is important to consider personality dimensions of disabled people for promoting productivity of organizations. Also, as organizational commitment have an effective role in progress and maintain health statues of workers, so ignoring this important factor might result in decreasing productivity. The aim of this study was to assess the relationship between personality extraversion-introversion with organizational commitment in disabled employees. Materials and Methods: This was a descriptive-analytical and comparative cross-sectional study. The target population included all of the disabled employed in the offices of Aligudarz city who were 110 people, which were selected by census method, and all of them completed the questionnaire. The research tools included Eysenck personality and organizational commitment questionnaire. In order to analyze the data, Pearson correlation and regression were performed. Results: The results indicated that a positive and meaningful relationship between personality extraversion and organizational commitment and a negative and meaningful relationship between personality introversion and organizational commitment were obtained. A positive and meaningful relationship between personality extraversion and affective commitment (r=0.36), between personality extraversion and continuance commitment (r=0.52) and between personality extraversion and normative commitment were obtained (r=0.56). A negative and meaningful relationship between personality introversion and affective commitment (r=0/31), between personality introversion and continuance commitment (r=0.47) and also between personality introversion and normative commitment were obtained (r=0.54) that generally has indirect relationship introversion with organizational commitment. (P≤ 0.01) Conclusion: On the basis of the findings of the study, it can be concluded that the disabled subjects that have personality extraversion have more organizational commitment in their work environment. To retain and grow ridership, transit agencies continuously survey riders to learn how to improve services and understand what leads to rider satisfaction. Nevertheless, transit riders are not a homogeneous entity and understanding the distinctions between transit riders can help transit agencies in their efforts to provide satisfactory service to retain existing riders and attract new ones. To uncover how diverse aspects of bus services can differentially impact satisfaction of different riders, we use data from a large-scale, multiyear bus satisfaction survey from London, UK. Specifically, we model satisfaction using logistic regressions to learn how encumbered riders and riders with physical disabilities value different features of bus services compared to other types of riders. For riders traveling with large items, shopping bags, or children, we find that satisfaction depends on the presence and condition of a bus shelter and the availability of a seat. Satisfaction of riders with disabilities depends on information availability at the bus stop, as well as trip speed and reliability. Our findings indicate that improving waiting area conditions and providing information at the stop can increase the satisfaction of riders with encumbrances and disabilities, respectively. Findings from this paper can be of benefit to transit planners and policy makers as it offers new insights about the determinants of satisfaction of two groups of bus riders not often considered in the public transport literature. Objectives:The goal of this study was to assess the extent to which caregiving burden and satisfaction of primary family caregivers in Israel predict loneliness among their older care recipients. Method:The study included a convenience sample of 325 dyads of respondents. The short version of Zarit Caregiving Burden Interview and Lawton Caregiving Appraisal measures were used to assess caregiving burden and satisfaction; the de Jong Gierveld Loneliness Scale was used to assess care recipient's loneliness. Results:The results showed that greater caregiving burden was significantly correlated with increased loneliness, whereas greater caregiving satisfaction was significantly correlated with lower levels of loneliness. Conclusion:The literature has broadly addressed the association between caregiving burden and satisfaction and the caregivers’ well-being, whereas this association with regard to care recipients’ well-being has been barely examined. The multivariate analyses showed that caregiving burden was insignificant in explaining loneliness, whereas greater caregiving satisfaction was found significant in explaining lower levels of loneliness. Objectives: Sickness absence in workplaces may reflect working conditions. It may also reflect a "healthy hire effect," i.e., that workplaces recruit individuals with experience of sickness absence differently. The purpose of the study was to determine if a history of sickness absence among recruits is associated with the average level of sickness absence in workplaces.Material and Methods: In a register-based follow-up study, Swedish workplaces with at least 5 employees in 2006 were selected (approximately 127 000 workplaces with 3.9 million employees). The workplaces were categorized according to the average workplace sickness absence in 2006 and the recruits were categorized according to the individual sickness absence in 2005. The workplaces with a high average level of sickness absence were more likely than those with a low level to hire employees with high sickness absence in the year preceding employment: men - odds ratio (OR) = 7.2, 95% confidence interval (CI): 6.6-7.8, women - OR = 7.5, 95% CI: 6.9-8.1.Results: The results show that there is a greater likelihood of employing individuals with high levels of sickness absence in the workplaces with many days of the average sickness absence than in the workplaces with few days of the average sickness absence.Conclusions: The results suggest that sickness absence in workplaces may reflect a healthy hire effect. The definition of digital poverty has not been changed since it was used at the first digital divide survey in 2000s. The objective of this study is to reexamine and redefine digital poverty targets of digital divide survey. This study examines the present state for the target of the digital divide survey focusing on Disabilities, Low-Income and Elders and then redefines digital poverty for them. The results suggest to reexamine 15 types of disabilities by the revised the Disabled Welfare Law as digital divide targets, rather than limiting to physical, brain, hearing and visual disabilities. For the low-income target, people on the second-to-the bottom income bracket as well as those on basic welfare should be included as the target of low-income people for digital poverty. No single cause can be linked to the high rates of veteran unemployment in the U.S. today. Despite efforts on the part of corporations, the social sector, and government to boost veteran hiring, the problem persists. Research has shown the effectiveness of holistic "disability-based" intervention in opening sustainable employment opportunities for persons with severe disabilities. Based on studies that suggest "veteran status" and the unique issues it imports for today's transitioning service members, it can become a barrier to employment. This finding supports the notion of a "veteran-based" intervention approach for veterans who are not disabled but face challenges that require intensive intervention and sustained engagement. This study aims to analyze the impact of management variables (Service Quality, Perceived Value and General Satisfaction) and variables of disability itself (origin and type of disability) on the future intentions to attend again of disabled athletes. This is a particularly interesting study taking into account the limited existing literature, the inclusion of disability variables in the analysis and due to the combination of traditional regression models and fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis models (fsQCA). The sample of this study consisted of 231 disabled athletes participating in 14 sports competitions during 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 seasons. The hierarchical regression model suggests that management variables seem more relevant than those related to the disability itself. Meanwhile, based on the results of the fsQCA model, the only necessary condition for future intentions to return to the event is not having a visual impairment, while the most explanatory sufficient condition results from the combination of having a disability from birth, high perceived value, high general satisfaction and high service quality. This article will present some salient issues affecting the human rights of most vulnerable segments of the Ghanaian population, namely, children, women, the disabled, and the elderly. On different levels the provision of welfare services for these subgroups is inadequate. This article will outline these services and the unique set of problems and issues besetting each group. Economic constraints and lack of commitment to good governance, common in developing countries, are obstacles to the advancement, human rights, and social protection of these groups. An Absent Biography. About the life and work of Ireneusz Plater-Zyberk Ireneusz Plater-Zyberk (1896–1946), was a writer and a film producer, adventurer and gallant. His life is an incredible story of the disabled individual who succeeded in an amazing career. Plater-Zyberk was born in a wealthy landowning family who lived at the estate of Vabole in Latvia. He was born without hands and at that time, due to his disability, was classified as "margins of society." Thanks to perseverance and commitment of his mother, he graduated as an extern student from high school in Warsaw, Poland. His career includes Life without Hands, memories, and two novels. He was a co-author of first movie in Poland with stunt effects Dead Node (1927), which unfortunately wasn’t preserved. Also, he was recognized as a documentary creator as well as an initiator of film production regulations. Biografia nieobecna. The main purpose of this study is to present consciousness level of disabled people regarding their employment rights. In this regard, interviews have been conducted with 44 disabled people. The significant point, as a result of these interviews, has been the fact that disabled people have no holistic awareness on their employment rights. Interviews also suggest that disabled people believe that there is inequality in using rights provided to them. In other words, our disabled citizens distrust and disbelieve the state. As has been pointed out by research results, there is another substantial matter which demonstrates us that there is a linear relationship between education and employment. All university graduates, among interviewed disabled people, are actively employed. This is a serious imply that unemployment problem could be solved to a certain degree if disabled people are employed as required. Lastly, research results also points out that communication becomes more complicated between "Foundations for Disabled People" and their members because of these foundations' political views; it also makes it more difficult for disabled people to embrace and accept said foundations, which consequently damages the loyalty between two parties. The study aims to build a tool for assessing the perception of inclusion indices in young people with disabilities at a university. 60 college students (24%) out of 250 (100%) were selected from first, third and fifth year of their Special Education major. The instrument is based on the Booth and Ainscow Index for Inclusion. The results show content validity and a Cronbach alpha acceptable level. It is concluded that this instrument can be applied at higher education levels to students studying psychology and special education in order to assess the rate of inclusion of youth with disabilities at a university. Aims and objectives. This study aimed to evaluate the level of care quality received by disabled older patients residing at home vs. those residing in institutions. Background. Taiwan has an aging society and faces issues of caring for disabled older patients, including increasing needs, insufficient resources and a higher economic burden of care. Design. Retrospective study extracting patient data from Taiwan's National Health Insurance database. Methods. We enrolled 76,672 disabled older patients aged 65 years and older who resided at home or institutions and had submitted claims for coverage of National Health Insurance for home care received for the first time between 2004-2006. Propensity score matching was applied to create a home-care group and an institutional-care group with 27,894 patients each. Indicators of care quality (emergency services use, hospitalisation, infection, pressure ulcers, death) within the first year were observed. Results. The home care group had significantly higher emergency services use, fewer hospital admissions and fewer infections, but had significantly higher occurrence of pressure ulcers. The institutional-care group had significantly lower time intervals between emergencies, fewer deaths, lower risk of emergencies and lower pressure ulcer risk. Males had significantly higher emergency services use than females, and higher risk of hospital admission and death. Conclusions. Care quality indicators for elder care are significantly different between home care and institutional care. The quality of home care is associated with higher emergency services use and pressure ulcer development, and institutional care is associated with number of infections and hospitalisations. Relevance to clinical practice. Care quality indicators were significantly different between home-care and institutional-care groups and were closely associated with the characteristics of individual patients' in the specific settings. The aim of the research was: To apply new approaches regarding the structure of drills, which are executed in the hours on sitting volleyball with the students ofkinesio therapy from the National Sports Academy "Vasil Levski" Sofia. Contingent of the research are 86 students from the four groups of the KTTSA faculty, most of them had studied the discipline in the second coarse "Volleyball as a way of recreation and rehabilitation". Then, the accent in the education was on standing volleyball, where the position of the body responds to the classical volleyball. We consider that our personal experience, in the quality of lecturer in the practical hours of Sitting Volleyball with the students from the faculty of KTTSA, convinces us that this sport is very interesting, exciting and humane, and the attitude of the students-positive. Quality of life is a standard phrase that can often be tossed into medical and bioethical discussions. When referring to a patient, this term sums up values such as respect for all persons, dignity, and serving the best interests of the patient. However, it can also be used to add validity to what would otherwise seem like an emotional response. “I wouldn’t want my child’s quality of life to be affected by...” “Well what sort of quality of life would they have if...” “Yes, but that’s not a good quality of life! They are missing out on...” “Not everyone can handle that type of quality of life though...” Phrases like the above are used to mask one key emotion: fear. Fear of the unknown. Uncertainty about our ability to thrive with a life we are unaccustomed to. Anxiety over accepting an unexpected challenge. Nonetheless, quality of life plays such an important part in our decision-making because all of our fears and concerns stem from a place of love. As potential parents are faced with the opportunity to screen embryos, mix and match selected DNA, and generally have more influence on the genetic make-up of their child, the questions surrounding “quality of life” are beginning to manifest themselves in a whole new way. No longer are the outcomes shaped by what type of life they had been living, and what a person would want moving forward. Reproductive technologies allow us to ask what we want for this potential person, and then make choices that will affect their entire lives. For those that have limited experiences interacting with people who are living with disabilities, answering quality of life questions may be negatively impacted by a lack of understanding.
