A traceless-activation strategy for the synthesis of 4-arylchroman-2-ones via a Rh(III)-catalyzed C-H activation of 2-arylpyridines and subsequent conjugated/decarboxylative addition to coumarin-3-carboxylic acids has been reported. The carboxyl group at C3 position of coumarin proved to be crucial to realize the reaction, which is spontaneously removed after the reaction by the release of CO 2 . The reaction displayed good substrate tolerance and gave various 4-arylchroman-2-ones in up to 90% yield.

Objective: The purpose of the present study was to detect structural changes in the brains of patients with sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) by combining voxel-based morphometry (VBM) and tract-based spatial statistics (TBSS)., Methods: Thirty-five patients with SNHL (mean age: 39.72 ± 1.81 yr) and 23 age-matched control subjects (mean age: 39.83 ± 1.96 yr) were assessed using three-dimensional, T1-weighted imaging, and diffusion tensor imaging. TBSS and VBM analyses were performed to evaluate grey matter (GM) volume changes and white matter (WM) alternations, as measured by mean diffusivity (MD), fractional anisotropy (FA), axial diffusivity (AD), and radial diffusivity (RD)., Results: VBM showed decreased GM volume in patients with SNHL in the fusiform gyrus of the right temporal lobe and right middle occipital gyrus. TBSS revealed WM integrity changes, including decreased FA and RD and increased RD in several WM regions. However, MD showed no significant difference between patients with SNHL and age-matched controls., Conclusion: Patients with SNHL showed smaller GM volume and WM integrity changes in several regions.

Extraversion and neuroticism are two main dimensions of Eysenck's personality. We assessed the relationship between extraversion and neuroticism with brain structure and function by voxel-based morphometry (VBM) and functional connectivity density (FCD). The resting state functional magnetic resonance image and high resolution structural T1 weighted images of 100 young healthy subjects were used in analysis. Our results showed that extraversion was negatively correlated with gray matter volume (GMV) of the bilateral putamen, and it was negatively correlated with FCD in the precuneus. No associations between neuroticism and brain structure and function changes. Overall, our results suggested that several brain regions involved in shaping of extraversion traits among young individuals, which may provide a neurobiological basis of extraversion., (Copyright © 2018.
