Abstract

Bismuth telluride and lead telluride are typical thermoelectric semiconductors that are metallized for electrical contacts before being assembled into devices. In this study, three iron-group metals of nickel cobalt iron, were chemically plated on n-type bismuth telluride as the prospective contact material for adhesion and barrier in soldering connection with copper. Aluminum was used as the sacrificial anode to ensure iron deposition. The sensitization in borohydride solution facilitated the subsequent plating of metals. The plating rates were determined by gravimetric method. The crystalline structure and morphology of films were characterized. Electrochemical polarizations were undertaken to compare the driving force among three plating reactions through the reduction of metallic cations and the oxidation of hypophosphite anions with the mixed potential theory. The heterojunction of bismuth telluride with copper was fabricated by reflow soldering with Sn 95 Sb 5 foil, and the interfacial resistivity was evaluated by multiple resistance measurements across the junction. 456. Asymmetric nanofiber photothermal interactive electronic skin with triboelectric autonomous thermal perceptivity.

Abstract

Thermal-perceptive electronic skins (e-skin) represent an important functional interface in wearables and soft robots. Realizing an all-in-one structured nanofiber interactive e-skin with autonomous thermal perceptivity remains challenging. We demonstrated a polyurethane/(polyvinyl pyrrolidone/MXene) (PPM) bilayer nanofiber film with asymmetric structure compactness by continuous and controllable electrospinning, that achieves asymmetric optical transmittance (visible light transparency of 20∼97%, infrared transparency of 5.5∼34.1%) and photothermal actuation response, with a response rate of 0.8 mm−1 s−1 and bending curvature of 2.2 cm−1, as well as additional excellent triboelectric outputs of ∼320 V and ∼5.4 µA. We proposed a "contact-actuation-perception" strategy for instantaneous object temperature sensing based on the PPM, which can actuate under photothermal stimulation to change its contact area with the target objects at different temperatures, producing temperature-dependent distinguishable triboelectric signals for autonomous thermal perception, with sensitivity up to ∼99.6%. This work could inspire a facile strategy to realize asymmetric features in fiber materials, in which the asymmetric optical-thermal-mechanical-electrical coupling mechanism for active perception is expected to promote the development of autonomous interactive e-skins. Abstract

Conventional compressive light field (CLF) displays reconstructing three-dimensional (3D) scenes generally use stacked liquid crystal displays (LCDs). However, the low transmittance of LCD limits the number of stacked layers (usually three) and the image quality. In this paper, the realization of the CLF display with multi-plane projection is proposed by using polymer stabilized cholesteric texture (PSCT) shutter and digital micro-mirror devices (DMDs). Benefitting from high transmittance ( > 80 % ) and fast response time ( ≤ 1 ms ) of PSCT shutter, the proposed system provides an opportunity to increase the number of physically stacked layers while preserving high brightness, which could achieve a large depth of field (DOF) and high-fidelity 3D image. Limited by the maximum refresh rate of DMD, the relationship between the gray scale and the layered number is analyzed and optimized to minimize the deviation between reconstructed light field and target light field. To improve the quality of reconstruction, the chromatic aberration due to the wavelength of incident light is investigated and compensated. In addition, the three-dimensional matrix mapping method is presented to convert decomposed images into binary images efficiently, which realizes the high-speed and real-time processing of massive display data. To verify the feasibility of the proposed system, a prototype was implemented and photographs were captured from different viewpoints. With the experimental results, the system was confirmed to have a potential for both 3D display and augmented reality (AR) applications.

Abstract

Compressive light field (CLF) display using multi-layer spatial light modulators (SLMs) is a promising technique for three-dimensional (3D) display. However, conventional CLF display usually uses the reference plane with fixed depth, which does not consider the relationship between the depth distribution of the object and the image quality. To improve the quality of the reconstructed image, we further analyze the relationship between them in the paper. The theoretical analysis reveals that the object with a closer distance to the physical layer has a better reconstruction quality when the SLM layers have the same pixel density. To minimize the deviation between the reconstructed light field and the original light field, we propose a method based on the depth distribution feature to automatically guide the light field optimization without increasing the layered number or the refresh rate. When applied to a different scene, it could detect the dense region of depth information and map them as close to the physical layers as possible by offsetting the depth of the reference plane. Simulation and optical experiments with the CLF display are demonstrated to verify the proposed method. We implement a CLF display that consists of four-layer stacked display panels and the distance between two adjacent layers is 5cm. When the proposed method is applied, the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) is improved by 2.4dB in simulations and 1.8dB in experiments.

Abstract

Graph deep learning models, such as graph convolutional networks (GCN) achieve remarkable performance for tasks on graph data. Similar to other types of deep models, graph deep learning models often suffer from adversarial attacks. However, compared with non-graph data, the discrete features, graph connections and different definitions of imperceptible perturbations bring unique challenges and opportunities for the adversarial attacks and defenses for graph data. In this paper, we propose both attack and defense techniques. For attack, we show that the discreteness problem could easily be resolved by introducing integrated gradients which could accurately reflect the effect of perturbing certain features or edges while still benefiting from the parallel computations. For defense, we observe that the adversarially manipulated graph for the targeted attack differs from normal graphs statistically. Based on this observation, we propose a defense approach which inspects the graph and recovers the potential adversarial perturbations. Our experiments on a number of datasets show the effectiveness of the proposed methods., to appear in IJCAI'19

Abstract

Platform ecosystem has become an information system research subject after many years of industry success. The concept facilitates fast and self-growing of a platform by encouraging data contribution and consumption of multiple networks. It is essential to understand how data should be managed in platform ecosystems where there are complicated relationships. However, this topic has been rarely addressed in both industry and academia. Prior research is still in early-stage. To respond to this, we proposed a novel data governance framework based on a design science research approach which delivers a set of guidelines and practical disciplines to support right decision making. A contingency model is proposed as an operating model of the framework to support designing and implementing data governance. It describes the influence of the context and characteristics of a platform ecosystem on data governance design. In this study, we used qualitative research within a design science approach which is mainly based on a literature review and case studies. The case studies are carried out to understand how and if industry platforms are addressing the theoretically important factors of the proposed framework in reality. Through the case studies, we confirmed that industry platforms consider data governance as a set of important decision areas. We have also found there are some limitations of the implementation of practices such as a lack of consideration of various types of data or proactive monitoring mechanisms. For the next steps, we willconsider further case studies as there are limited cases are examined in this study.
