An account of pseudocyst of the pancreas, which is a less common cause of abdominal swelling, is given. Various methods of treatment are described. A series of 8 patients with pseudocyst of the pancreas is reported. The treatment in each case is described.

The antibody response to Bunostomum trigonocephalum is absent or very weak during the first 15 or 14 days of the infection in lambs and kids respectively but subsequently, positive precipitin ring and flocculation tests were obtained. Rabbits were hyperimmunised with the saline extract of the III stage larvae of B. trigonocephalum. The agar gel diffusion test revealed more than one antigenic component in the saline extract of the larvae but only one antigenic entity appeared to be present in excretory and secretory antigen.

1. The infective stage larvae of Bunostomum trigonocephalum (Rudolphi, 1808) penetrate the intact skin and undergo skin-lung migration in the mouse and skin-lung-intestine migration in the guineapig. After percutaneous infection in guineapigs, they moult in the lungs to the fourth stage and to the fifth stage in the intestine. Relatively few of them undergo this partial development in the guineapig and they are stunted in growth.2. In the abnormal hosts, the penetrating larvae cause extensive tissue disorganisation. The histopathology of the skin and lungs is described. There is a cellular reaction to the parasites.3. In guineapigs, the infective stage larvae reach the lungs after per os infection but they are few in number do no persist for more than six days.

Several pyridinylthiazolylazetidinones 4a-d, pyridinylthiazolythiazolidinones 5a-d and pyridinylthiazolylformazans 6a-d have been prepared from pyridinylthiazolylarylidines 3a-d. These compounds have been evaluated for insecticidal, anti-fungal and anti-bacterial activities. Compound 2-[2'-(3"-chloro-2"-oxo-4"-o-hydroxyphenyl-1"-azetidinyl)-1',3'-thiazol-4'-yl) aminopyridine 4c has been found to exhibit potential insecticidal and anti-fungal properties.The structure of these compounds has been elucidated by elemental (C, H, N) and spectral (IR, 'H NMR and mass) analyses. All the compounds except 3a-d and 6c, 6d show antibacteria' activity.

Some new 4-phenyl-2,3-dihydro-6-(substitutedaminoethyl)-10-iodo[1,2,4]-triazino[2,3-c]-quina-zolin-5-ones 6-14 have been synthesized from 4-(phenyl-2,3-dihydro-6-methyl-10-iodo [1,2,4]-triazino[2,3-c]quinazolin-5-one 5 by introducing different heterocyclic nuclei. Compounds 5 and 6-14 have been screened for insecticidal, anti-fungal and antibacterial activities. Compound 4-phenyl-2, 3-dihydro-6-(β-naphthylaminoethyl)-10-iodo[1, 2, 4]-triazino[2,3-c]-quinazolin-5-one 14 has been found to be the most potent compound of the present study which shows mortality of insects at 190.6 min while standard compounds exhibit at 280 min at a concentration of 5 g/L. Moreover, this compound also possesses anti-bacterial activity. The structures of these compounds have been elucidated by IR, 1 H NMR, mass spectroscopy and elemental analysis.

The large intrinsic field that can exist inside a thin insulator film which is sandwiched between dissimilar electrodes, is utilized to make the MIM (Metal-Insulator-Metal) structure operate as a diode. Dielectric monomolecular films of barium stearate are sandwiched between an aluminium and a tin electrode. The maximum value of forward bias current is of the order of a few nanoamperes. It is suggested that the value of current may be increased by utilizing a suitably doped dielectric.

The variance-covariance matrices of restricted regression and mixed regression estimators are compared and the consequences of introducing variability in the restrictions are examined.

The potential importance of built‐up films of barium stearate for making dielectric devices has led to the necessity of the study of their ac breakdown characteristics. In the present work, the thickness and frequency dependence of the ac breakdown field has been reported in the thickness range 100–1500 A and in the frequency region 10–200 kHz. The breakdown field is found to vary with thickness as d–a (α=0.68) and the breakdown voltage is found to increase with increasing thickness and frequency in the specified ranges. Although the experimental results could not be interpreted at present, the results obtained may prove useful in ac device applications of the films.

SIKKA et al.1 have reported the occurrence of gray wacke in the Nahan Series (Lower Siwaliks) near Kalka, Simla Hills, Panjab. The rock has been described as “a grey to greenish micaceous ‘sandstone’ type” in the hand specimen which in thin sections is seen to consist of “angular grains of quartz (approximately 50 per cent) embedded in a matrix composed of fragments of slate, schist, quartzite, chert, felspar, chlorite and authigenic sericite”. The authors appear to be of the opinion that the presence of this rock type in the Siwaliks casts doubts on their fresh-water origin since “it is generally accepted that the graywackes are characteristic of the geotectonic belts”.

Exact expressions are given for the first two moments of a linear combination of the elements of an instrumental variables estimator for the coefficients of the endogenous variables in a general structural equation. These results generalize previous exact results for equations containing just two or three endogenous variables. In addition, we provide bounds on the moments that can easily be estimated, and generalize some earlier qualita- tive results for these estimators. recently obtained an expression for the joint density of an instrumental variables estimator for the vector of coefficients of the endogenous variables. Prior to this both the exact density and moments were published only for special cases. See Basmann (1), Mariano (20), and Phillips (26) for surveys of these results. When n > 2, however, the exact joint density provides very little information about exact marginal densities and moments for individual coefficients. Phillips (25) has suggested an approximation to the marginal density that seems to work well, but this is so far the only evidence available on marginal densities in the general case. In this paper we derive expressions for the first two moments of a linear combination of the elements of an instrumental variables estimator for the coefficients of the endogenous variables in the general case. These results therefore complement Phillips' (24 and 25) results, and generalize the earlier results of Richardson (27) and Richardson and Wu (28) for the case n = 1. We are also able to generalize some of the other results in these latter two papers. In addition we provide bounds on the exact moments that can easily be estimated in practice, and indicate a procedure for obtaining higher order terms in the asymptotic expansions for the moments given by Nagar (23) and Mikhail (22). Exact marginal densities for individual elements of instrumental variables estima- tors are derived in a separate paper (10). The procedure we follow is, in principle, very simple: starting from the moments of the conditional distribution of the estimator given the right-hand- side endogenous variables, we simply average the conditional moments with respect to the density of the conditioning variates.
