Victims of minor traffic accidents can suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), but unlike those involved in serious accidents, which receive much publicity, such victims are usually left untreated and uncompensated. In a study of 188 accident victims by a team led by Dr. Richard Mayou, almost all were psychologically affected, and over 50% of them were still anxious as passengers one year on. The majority of victims also reported changed driving behaviour, such as avoiding driving at night.
