La investigación en Salud Pública hace una importante contribución a la salud de las poblaciones dado que permite una práctica más efectiva, eficiente y de calidad, en correspondencia con las necesidades crecientes de salud de la población. De hecho, la investigación es reconocida como la función esencial número 10 de la Salud Pública. En los últimos años se han realizado una serie de acciones en Latinoamérica que evidencian un reconocimiento de la importancia de la investigación y el fortalecimiento de los sistemas de investigación en salud, hechos que ponen a la luz la necesidad de la evaluar la actividad científica. El objetivo general de esta investigación es caracterizar la producción científica latinoamericana y cubana en Salud Pública contenida en Scopus, desde la perspectiva cienciométrica, con vistas a ofrecer una herramienta útil para evaluación de la gestión de la investigación en el marco de las funciones esenciales de la Salud Pública., Tesis Univ. Research Sectors Involved in Cuban Scientific Output 2003–2007. 14th International Society of Scientometrics and Informetrics Conference, Vienna (Austria), 15th-19th July 2013, This short communication analyzes the scientific activity and impact of the different Cuban research sectors during the period 2003-2007. Only a minority set of bibliometrical papers are focused in the particular study of research sectors involved in national scientific output. National or regional dynamics of the university-industry-government relationships, based on “The Triple Helix model” proposed by Etzkowitz and Leydesdorff, is among the most studied topics. "This is a post-peer-review, pre-copyedit version of an article published in Journal of Nanoparticle Research. The final authenticated version is available online at: https://doi.org/10.1007/s11051-016-3732-3”., The aim of this paper is to make manifest the intellectual and cognitive structure of nanoscience and nanotechnology (NST) by means of visualization techniques. To this end, we used data from the Web of Science (WoS), delimiting the data to the category NST during the period of 2000–2013, retrieving a total of 198,275 documents. Through direct author citation of these works, we identified their origins and the seminal papers, and through word co-occurrence extracted from the titles and abstracts, the main lines of research were identified. In view of both structures, we may affirm that NST is a young scientific discipline in constant expansion, needing time to establish its foundations but showing a strongly interdisciplinary character; its development is furthermore dependent upon knowledge from other disciplines, such as physics, chemistry, or material sciences. We believe that this information may be very useful for the NST scientific community, as it reflects a large-scale analysis of the research lines of NST and how research has changed over time in the diverse areas of NST. This study is moreover intended to offer a useful tool for the NST scientific community, revealing at a glance the main research lines and landmark papers. Networks of international collaboration and mobility: a comparative study. 16th International Conference on Scientometrics & Informetrics, ISSI 2017. Wuhan, China, 16-20 October 2017, p. 270-280., This study presents a preliminary comparison of networks of international collaboration and mobility. Using affiliation data from scientific publications, we analyze the structural differences between the two networks and the role of countries. The results show that researchers collaborate internationally to a much higher degree than they become internationally mobile. The number of countries involved in the networks is three times higher in collaboration than in mobility, and the average degree demonstrates that mobility networks form tight structures with fewer links than collaboration networks. The role of countries differs between the collaboration and mobility network, predominately reflecting income level. Nanoscience and Nanotechnology in Scopus: Journal Identification and Visualization. 14th International Society of Scientometrics and Informetrics Conference, Vienna (Austria), 15th-19th July 2013, This document presents a new query for the retrieval of information about Nanoscience & Nanotechnology (N&N) based on the combination of previously published search strategies, contrasted by the scientific community. It led us to identify 80 core journals of N&N in Scopus, then map and analyze the underlying structure of N&N output using visualization techniques. N&N is established as a productive young discipline, crosscutting other fields in its rapid evolution, for which reason it has poorly defined limits to date, and needs some time to consolidate its identity as a discipline. Materials & Methods On 06/11/2012 we launched a search against the Scopus database using the combination of different queries proposed previously. Query 1 included terms with the root nano*, while excluding any terms containing the root nano* yet not related with N&N. To this end, we referred to the combination of proposals made by Noyons et al., 2003; Glänzel et al., 2003; Huang et al., 2003; and Meyer, Debackere and Glänzel, 2010. In turn, query 2 combined instruments and processes utilized in N&N with different types of materials, functions and other terms, in the wake of proposals by Noyons et al., 2003, Glänzel et al., 2003, Kostoff, Koytcheff and Lau, 2007 and Porter et al., 2008. Finally, query 3 included a series of terms related with N&N and was based on the work of Noyons et al., 2003; Glänzel et al., 2003; Huang et al., 2003; Kostoff, Koytcheff and Lau, 2006; Porter et al., 2008; and Lv et al., 2011. The combination of these three searches led to a new query which we believe can be perfectly adopted for the identification of N&N documents in any specialized or multidisciplinary database (Annex).
