Abstract Background Light exposure significantly impacts human health, regulating our circadian clock, sleep–wake cycle and other physiological processes. With the emergence of wearable light loggers and dosimeters, research on real-world light exposure effects is growing. There is a critical need to standardize data collection and documentation across studies. Results This article proposes a new metadata descriptor designed to capture crucial information within personalized light exposure datasets collected with wearable light loggers and dosimeters. The descriptor, developed collaboratively by international experts, has a modular structure for future expansion and customization. It covers four key domains: study design, participant characteristics, dataset details, and device specifications. Each domain includes specific metadata fields for comprehensive documentation. The user-friendly descriptor is available in JSON format. A web interface simplifies generating compliant JSON files for broad accessibility. Version control allows for future improvements. Conclusions Our metadata descriptor empowers researchers to enhance the quality and value of their light dosimetry datasets by making them FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable). Ultimately, its adoption will advance our understanding of how light exposure affects human physiology and behaviour in real-world settings.

The growing popularity of JSON as the data storage and interchange format increases the availability of massive multi-structured data collections. Clustering JSON documents has become a significant issue in organising large data collections. Existing research uses various structural similarity measures to perform clustering. However, differently annotated JSON structures may also encode semantic relatedness, necessitating the use of both syntactic and semantic properties of heterogeneous JSON schemas. Using the SchemaEmbed model, this paper proposes an embedding-based clustering approach for grouping contextually similar JSON documents. The SchemaEmbed model is designed using the pre-trained Word2Vec model and a deep autoencoder that considers both syntactic and semantic information of JSON schemas for clustering the documents. The Word2Vec model learns the attribute embeddings, and a deep autoencoder is designed to generate context-aware schema embeddings. Finally, the context-based similar JSON documents are grouped using a clustering algorithm. The effectiveness of the proposed work is evaluated using both real and synthetic datasets. The results and findings show that the proposed approach improves clustering quality significantly, with a high NMI score of 75%. In addition, we demonstrate that clustering results obtained by contextual similarity are superior to those obtained by traditional semantic similarity models. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

With the rapid development of wireless technology and Mobile communication technology worldwide, Mobile Learning represents a new learning trend in the field of higher education, and has gradually become the development trend and research hotspot of independent learning and lifelong learning. Based on modern wireless network mobile communication terminal technology, this paper proposes a Granott model-driven mobile learning system. Firstly, the Granott model is studied and analyzed, and the ubiquitous computing with physical integration and spontaneous interoperation is used to control the Android mobile terminal, which greatly improves the interactivity of M-Learning. Then JSON is selected to optimize the data transmission format in Ajax, and j Query is used to parse JSON data. Ajax + JSON + j Query can shield the complexity of DOM parsing XML files, greatly shorten the data transmission time and improve the efficiency of Granott model. Finally, the Fast kernel density estimation (Fast KDE) algorithm is introduced to compress the data transmitted by Ajax + JSON + j Query, so as to obtain a reasonable number of training samples. Through experiments and relevant data analysis, the proposed mobile learning system based on modern wireless network mobile communication terminal technology, optimized by JSON and Fast KDE algorithm, driven by Granott model, can efficiently complete the learning task, and improve the ubiquity, interactivity, timeliness of mobile learning. This work introduces the “pyJSON Schema Loader and JSON Editor”, a client-side desktop application for offline and local environments capable of creating, editing and tracking metadata-containing JSON documents. The newly developed tool aims to support the generation and re-use of structured metadata, required for the implementation of research data management and the FAIR data principles in research workflows. pyJSON is written in Python, a modern and flexible programming language. The interface consists of a table-like view tailored to present JSON documents, enriched with information from the corresponding JSON schema. It shall assist in creating and maintaining documents containing metadata by simplifying the process of generation and editing based on a given schema. It is used to document data sets, data collections and devices in a local file structure, intending to support the transition from paper-based documentation to more modern research data management workflows, while sustaining a uniform and standardised structure, without the need to bind users to an often complex and resource demanding database system.

Textual formats to structure data, such as JSON, XML, and YAML, are widely used for structuring data in various domains, from configuration files to research data. However, manually editing data in these formats can be complex and time-consuming. Graphical user interfaces (GUIs) can significantly reduce manual efforts and assist the user in editing the files, but developing a file-format-specific GUI requires substantial development and maintenance efforts. To address this challenge, we introduce MetaConfigurator: an open-source web application that generates its GUI depending on a given schema. Our approach differs from other schema-to-UI approaches in three key ways: 1) It offers a unified view that combines the benefits of both GUIs and text editors, 2) it enables schema editing within the same tool, and 3) it supports advanced schema features, including conditions and constraints. In this paper, we discuss the design and implementation of MetaConfigurator, backed by insights from a small-scale qualitative user study. Summary: JSON is a popular standard for data interchange on the Internet. Ingesting JSON documents can be a performance bottleneck. A popular parsing strategy consists in converting the input text into a tree‐based data structure—sometimes called a Document Object Model or DOM. We designed and implemented a novel JSON parsing interface—called On‐Demand—that appears to the programmer like a conventional DOM‐based approach. However, the underlying implementation is a pointer iterating through the content, only materializing the results (objects, arrays, strings, numbers) lazily. On recent commodity processors, an implementation of our approach provides superior performance in multiple benchmarks. To ensure reproducibility, our work is freely available as open source software. Several systems use On Demand: for example, Apache Doris, the Node.js JavaScript runtime, Milvus, and Velox. The object of research is the process of automating systems for structuring data from several sources. The subject of the research is methods and algorithms for implementing a complete system for automated and parallel processing, validation and structuring of data. One of the most problematic areas is the merging of databases with different structures and several common fields into a generalized structure. The research was aimed at developing a system to increase the efficiency of automation of big data processing. As a result of the work, optimization methods were studied, the influence of their internal parameters on the operation of algorithms was analyzed, their main advantages and disadvantages were determined, and software was developed in which the corresponding methods were implemented. An algorithm for structuring data before processing has been obtained. Data structuring is achieved by performing the «mapping» operation. Mapping can take place by indexes of already cleaned data or using a defined dictionary with a given set of keys, which allows not to care about the sequence of storing values and their possible shift. The practical significance of the developed system lies in the improvement of methods of collecting and processing information for the purpose of its further validation, cleaning and accumulation in the following categories: geographic addresses and geo-coordinates, validation and automated addition of a mobile phone number to the international format, processing of car numbers (in modern and outdated format), VIN code of the engine and car brand, validation of urls of social networks, passport data and processing of personal data. Compared to similar methods for processing large volumes of data, the possibility of splitting the input file or stream into separate parts was used, the cleaned data from which is combined at the end of the system operation. Thanks to this, it is possible to process data whose size exceeds the available volume of the device’s RAM, and the method of working with loosely structured text files in CSV format has been improved. Object-oriented programming (OOP) embodies a software development paradigm grounded in representing real-world entities as objects, facilitating a more efficient and structured modelling approach. In this article, we explore the synergy between OOP principles and the TypeScript (TS) programming language to create a JSON-formatted database designed for storing arrays of biological features. This fusion of technologies fosters a controlled and modular code script, streamlining the integration, manipulation, expansion, and analysis of biological data, all while enhancing syntax for improved human readability, such as through the use of dot notation. We advocate for biologists to embrace Git technology, akin to the practices of programmers and coders, for initiating versioned and collaborative projects. Leveraging the widely accessible and acclaimed IDE, Visual Studio Code, provides an additional advantage. Not only does it support running a Node.js environment, which is essential for running TS, but it also efficiently manages GitHub versioning. We provide a use case involving taxonomic data structure, focusing on angiosperm legume plants. This method is characterized by its simplicity, as the tools employed are both fully accessible and free of charge, and it is widely adopted by communities of professional programmers. Moreover, we are dedicated to facilitating practical implementation and comprehension through a comprehensive tutorial, a readily available pre-built database at GitHub, and a new package at npm. Microscale gas chromatography (μGC) systems are miniaturized instruments that typically incorporate one or several microfabricated fluidic elements; such systems are generally well suited for the automated sampling and analysis of gas-phase chemicals. Advanced μGC systems may incorporate more than 15 elements and operate these elements in different coordinated sequences to execute complex operations. In particular, the control software must manage the sampling and analysis operations of the μGC system in a time-sensitive manner; while operating multiple control loops, it must also manage error conditions, data acquisition, and user interactions when necessary. To address these challenges, this work describes the investigation of multithreaded control software and its evaluation with a representative μGC system. The μGC system is based on a progressive cellular architecture that uses multiple μGC cells to efficiently broaden the range of chemical analytes, with each cell incorporating multiple detectors. Implemented in Python language version 3.7.3 and executed by an embedded single-board computer, the control software enables the concurrent control of heaters, pumps, and valves while also gathering data from thermistors, pressure sensors, capacitive detectors, and photoionization detectors. A graphical user interface (UI) that operates on a laptop provides visualization of control parameters in real time. In experimental evaluations, the control software provided successful operation and readout for all the components, including eight sets of thermistors and heaters that form temperature feedback loops, two sets of pressure sensors and tunable gas pumps that form pressure head feedback loops, six capacitive detectors, three photoionization detectors, six valves, and an additional fixed-flow gas pump. A typical run analyzing 18 chemicals is presented. Although the operating system does not guarantee real-time operation, the relative standard deviations of the control loop timings were <0.5%. The data produced by various services should be stored and managed in an appropriate format for gaining valuable knowledge conveniently. This leads to the emergence of various data models, including relational, semi-structured, and graph models, and so on. Considering the fact that the mature relational databases established on relational data models are still predominant in today’s market, it has fueled interest in storing and processing semi-structured data and graph data in relational databases so that mature and powerful relational databases’ capabilities can all be applied to these various data. In this survey, we review existing methods on mapping semi-structured data and graph data into relational tables, analyze their major features, and give a detailed classification of those methods. We also summarize the merits and demerits of each method, introduce open research challenges, and present future research directions. With this comprehensive investigation of existing methods and open problems, we hope this survey can motivate new mapping approaches through drawing lessons from each model’s mapping strategies, as well as a new research topic - mapping multi-model data into relational tables. In recent years, the increased use of smart devices and digital business opportunities has generated massive heterogeneous JSON data daily, making efficient data storage and management more difficult. Existing research uses different similarity metrics and clusters the documents to support the above tasks effectively. However, extant approaches have focused on either structural or semantic similarity of schemas. As JSON documents are application-specific, differently annotated JSON schemas are not only structurally heterogeneous but also differ by the context of the JSON attributes. Therefore, there is a need to consider the structural, semantic, and contextual properties of JSON schemas to perform meaningful clustering of JSON documents. This work proposes an approach to cluster heterogeneous JSON documents using the similarity fusion method. The similarity fusion matrix is constructed using structural, semantic, and contextual measures of JSON schemas. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed approach outperforms the existing approaches significantly.

Accreditation is a crucial mechanism for ensuring that educational institutions provide high-quality teaching and learning experiences to their students. It is a process through which the quality of an educational program is evaluated by defining and assessing program level outcomes. In India, several organizations are responsible for accreditation, with the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) being one of the most prominent. However, maintaining NBA guidelines for institutional accreditation can be challenging, particularly due to the lack of a centralized system for storing the required information. The application is designed using ReactJS, NodeJS, Json and would be designed to assist educational institutions in India with maintaining NBA guidelines for institutional accreditation by providing a centralized system for storing all necessary information. This information would be accessible to administrators and faculty members, making it easier for the institution to keep track of the information required for accreditation and simplifying the process of achieving and maintaining a certain quality level of teaching and learning. The web application would be a game changer for the educational institutions in India as it would allow them to focus on providing quality education to their students instead of getting bogged down by the administrative aspects of accreditation. The Internet of Things (IoT) technology is growing rapidly, while the IoT devices are being deployed massively. However, interoperability with information systems remains a major challenge for this accelerated device deployment. Furthermore, most of the time, IoT information is presented as Time Series (TS), and while the majority of the studies in the literature focus on the prediction, compression, or processing of TS, no standardized representation format has emerged. Moreover, apart from interoperability, IoT networks contain multiple constrained devices which are designed with limitations, e.g., processing power, memory, or battery life. Therefore, in order to reduce the interoperability challenges and increase the lifetime of IoT devices, this article introduces a new format for TS based on CBOR. The format exploits the compactness of CBOR by leveraging delta values to represent measurements, employing tags to represent variables, and utilizing templates to convert the TS data representation into the appropriate format for the cloud-based application. Moreover, we introduce a new refined and structured metadata to represent additional information for the measurements, then we provide a Concise Data Definition Language (CDDL) code to validate the CBOR structures against our proposal, and finally, we present a detailed performance evaluation to validate the adaptability and the extensibility of our approach. Our performance evaluation results show that the actual data sent by IoT devices can be reduced by between 88% and 94% compared to JavaScript Object Notation (JSON), between 82% and 91% compared to Concise Binary Object Representation (CBOR) and ASN.1, and between 60% and 88% compared to Protocol buffers. At the same time, it can reduce Time-on-Air by between 84% and 94% when a Low Power Wide Area Networks (LPWAN) technology such as LoRaWAN is employed, leading to a 12-fold increase in battery life compared to CBOR format or between a 9-fold and 16-fold increase when compared to Protocol buffers and ASN.1, respectively. In addition, the proposed metadata represent an additional 0.5% of the overall data transmitted in cases where networks such as LPWAN or Wi-Fi are employed. Finally, the proposed template and data format provide a compact representation of TS that can significantly reduce the amount of data transmitted containing the same information, extend the battery life of IoT devices, and improve their lifetime. RO-Crate (Soiland-Reyes et al. 2022) is a lightweight method to package research outputs along with their metadata, based on Linked Data principles (Bizer et al. 2009) and W3C standards. RO-Crate provides a flexible mechanism for researchers archiving and publishing rich data packages (or any other research outcome) by capturing their dependencies and context. However, additional measures should be taken to ensure that a crate is also following the FAIR principles (Wilkinson 2016), including consistent use of persistent identifiers, provenance, community standards, clear machine/human-readable licensing for metadata and data, and Web publication of RO-Crates.The FAIR Digital Object (FDO) approach (De Smedt et al. 2020) gives a set of recommendations that aims to improve findability, accessibility, interoperability and reproducibility for any digital object, allowing implementation through different protocols or standards.Here we present how we have followed the FDO recommendations and turned research outcomes into FDOs by publishing RO-Crates on the Web using HTTP, following best practices for Linked Data. We highlight challenges and advantages of the FDO approach, and reflect on what is required for an FDO profile to achieve FAIR RO-Crates.The implementation allows for a broad range of use cases, across scientific domains. A minimal RO-Crate may be represented as a persistent URI resolving to a summary website describing the outputs in a scientific investigation (e.g. https://w3id.org/dgarijo/ro/sepln2022 with links to the used datasets along with software). One of the advantages of RO-Crates is flexibility, particularly regarding the metadata accompanying the actual research outcome. RO-Crate extends schema.org, a popular vocabulary for describing resources on the Web (Guha et al. 2016). A generic RO-Crate is not required to be typed beyond Dataset*1. In practice, RO-Crates declare conformance to particular profiles, allowing processing based on the specific needs and assumptions of a community or usage scenario. This, effectively, makes RO-Crates typed and thus machine-actionable. RO-Crate profiles serve as metadata templates, making it easier for communities to agree and build upon their own metadata needs.RO-Crates have been combined with machine-actionable Data Management Plans (maDMPs) to automate and facilitate management of research data (Miksa et al. 2020). This mapping allows RO-Crates to be generated out of maDMPs and vice versa. The ELIXIR Software Management Plans (Alves et al. 2021) is planning to move their questionnaire to a machine-actionable format with RO-Crate. ELIXIR Biohackathon 2022 will explore integration of RO-Crate and the Data Stewardship Wizard (Pergl et al. 2019) with Galaxy, which can automate FDO creation that also follows data management plans.A tailored RO-Crate profile has been defined to represent Electronic Lab Notebooks (ELN) protocols bundled together with metadata and related datasets. Schröder et al. (2022) uses RO-Crates to encode provenance information at different levels, including researchers, manufacturers, biological and chemical resources, activities, measurements, and resulting research data. The use of RO-Crates makes it easier to programmatically question-answer information related to the protocols, for instance activities, resources and equipment used to create data. Another example is WorkflowHub (Goble et al. 2021) which defines the Workflow RO-Crate profile (Bacall et al. 2022), imposing additional constraints such as the presence of a main workflow and a license. It also specifies which entity types and properties must be used to provide such information, implicitly defining a set of operations (e.g., get the main workflow and its language) that are valid on all complying crates. The workflow system Galaxy (The Galaxy Community 2022) retrieves such Workflow Crates using GA4GH TRS API.The workflow profile has been further extended (with OOP-like inheritance) in Workflow Testing RO-Crate, adding formal workflow testing components: this adds operations such as getting remote test instances and test definitions, used by the LifeMonitor service to keep track of the health status of multiple published workflows. While RO-Crates use Web technologies, they are also self-contained, moving data along with their metadata. This is a powerful construct for interoperability across FAIR repositories, but this raises some challenges with regards to mutability and persistence of crates.To illustrate how such challenges can be handled, we detail how the WorkflowHub repository follows several FDO principles:Workflow entries must be frozen for editing and have complete kernel metadata (title, authors, license, description) [FDOF4] before they can be assigned a persistent identifier, e.g. https://doi.org/10.48546/workflowhub.workflow.255.1 [FDOF1]Computational workflows can be composed of multiple files used as a whole, e.g. CWL files in a GitHub repository. These are snapshotted as a single RO-Crate ZIP, indicating the main workflow. [FDOF11]PID resolution can content-negotiate to Datacite’s PID metadata [FDOF2] or use FAIR Signposting to find an RO-Crate containing the workflow [FDOF3] and richer JSON-LD metadata resources [FDOF5,FDOF8], see Fig. 1Metadata uses schema.org [FDOF7] following the community-developed Bioschemas ComputationalWorkflow profile [FDOF10].Workflows are discovered using the GA4GH TRS API [FDOF5,FDOF6,FDOF11] and created/modified using CRUD operations [FDOF6]The RO-Crate profile, effectively the FDO Type [FDOF7], is declared as https://w3id.org/workflowhub/workflow-ro-crate/1.0; the workflow language (e.g. https://w3id.org/workflowhub/workflow-ro-crate#galaxy) is defined in metadata of the main workflow. Further work on RO-Crate profiles include to formalise links to the API operations and repositories [FDOF5,FDOF7], to include PIDs of profiles and types in the FAIR Signposting, and HTTP navigation to individual resources within the RO-Crate.RO-Crate has shown a broad adoption by communities across many scientific disciplines, providing a lightweight, and therefore easy to adopt, approach to generating FAIR Digital Objects. It is rapidly becoming an integral part of the interoperability fabric between the different components as demonstrated here for WorkflowHub, contributing to building the European Open Science Cloud.

The article discusses the issues of making effective decisions about investing in commercial accounts and currencies. In order to know how much these solutions will be beneficial in the long term, specialized information is needed: data on the dynamics of growth, decline in the value of accounts and currencies, analytical information. But there is no single source where this data will be accumulated, systematized and stored. Purpose – create a tool for collecting and storing the parameters of investment accounts for their subsequent analysis in order to make an effective investment decision. Method or methodology of work: the article discusses a method that can implement a tool for collecting specialized information of investment accounts, two tools can be used for this: Postgresql databases and Python programming language Result: a tool has been developed that performs the function of collecting and storing information on investment accounts. Scope of the results: the data obtained, which are stored in the database, should be used to identify high-yield accounts for subsequent investment.

The Inventory of headquarters and public services of «Junta de Andalucía» (ISE) offers a global vision of the location of the services provided by the Andalusian Regional Government, offering both the geographical location and the most relevant alphanumeric data. The ISE solves the problems associated with the great dispersion of data and formats in which each responsible body publishes them, integrating them into a single standardized PostgreSQL/PostGIS database that can be consulted through a web viewer and interoperable OGC web services. A major task of the project is to process the starting information so that the postal addresses are normalized and that each facility or headquarter is located through a geometric point. These operations (normalization and geocoding) are executed automatically using the web processing service (WPS) of the Unified Digital Street Map of Andalusia (CDAU), the official reference source for roads and portals in Andalusia. To facilitate the task, the queries have been automated within workflows implemented using the ETL Kettle tool, one of the products of the Pentaho Data Integration suite. To do this, the normalization and geocoding functions are recursively invoked through the REST communication protocol and the response returned in JSON format is interpreted, isolating the values of interest (road type, road name, gate number and set of coordinates) and generating the corresponding geometries.
