Neutron star-white dwarf (NS-WD) binaries evolve into either ultra-compact X-ray binaries undergoing stable mass transfer or direct mergers by unstable mass transfer. While much attention has been on gravitational wave (GW) emissions from NS-WD binaries with the former evolutionary pathway, this work explores GW emissions related to {\em r}-mode instability of the accreting NSs in NS-WD mergers particularly with WD's mass $\gtrsim 1M_{\odot}$. Due to considerably high accretion rates, the GW emissions associated with both {\em r}-modes and magnetic deformation intrinsically induced by {\em r}-modes presented in this work are much stronger than those in NS-WD binaries categorized as intermediate-mass or low-mass X-ray binaries, rendering them interesting sources for the advanced Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory and upcoming Einstein Telescope. Moreover, these strong GW emissions might accompany some intriguing electromagnetic emissions such as peculiar long gamma-ray bursts (LGRBs), fast blue optical transients including kilonova-like emissions associated with peculiar LGRBs, and/or fast radio bursts., Comment: Published in PRD

Antiferromagnetic spintronics exhibits ultra-high operational speed and stability in a magnetic field, holding promise for the realization of next-generation ultra-high-speed magnetic storage. However, theoretical exploration of the electronic transport properties of antiferromagnetic-multiferroic tunnel junction (AMFTJ) devices remains largely unexplored. Here, we design an antiferromagnet/ferroelectric barrier/antiferromagnet van der Waals heterojunction, renamed vdW AMFTJ, using a bilayer MnBi$_2$Te$_4$/In$_2$Se$_3$/bilayer MnBi$_2$Te$_4$ (MBT-2L/IS/MBT-2L) as the prototype. Based on first-principles calculations using the nonequilibrium Green's function method combined with density functional theory, we theoretically investigate the spin-resolved electronic transport properties of this AMFTJ. By manipulating the various possible magnetization directions of the multilayer antiferromagnetic MnBi$_2$Te$_4$ and the ferroelectric polarization direction of the In$_2$Se$_3$ within the junction, sixteen distinct non-volatile resistance states can be revealed and manipulated by applying external biaxial strain and bias voltage. We predict maximum tunneling magnetoresistance (electroresistance) values of $3.79\times10^{4}$\% ($2.41\times10^{5}$\%) in the equilibrium state, which can increase up to $5.01\times10^{5}$\% ($4.97\times10^{5}$\%) under external bias voltage. Furthermore, the perfect spin filtering effect is also present in our AMFTJ. Our results highlight the tremendous potential of the MBT-2L/IS/MBT-2L vdW AMFTJ in non-volatile memory, expanding the application avenues for antiferromagnetic spintronic devices.

Type I gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) are believed to originate from compact binary merger usually with duration less than 2 seconds for the main emission. However, recent observations of GRB 211211A and GRB 230307A indicate that some merger-origin GRBs could last much longer. Since they show strikingly similar properties (indicating a common mechanism) which are different from the classic "long"-short burst (e.g. GRB 060614), forming an interesting subclass of type I GRBs, we suggest to name them as type IL GRBs. By identifying the first peak of GRB 230307A as a quasi-thermal precursor, we find that the prompt emission of type IL GRB is composed of three episodes: (1) a precursor followed by a short quiescent (or weak emission) period, (2) a long-duration main emission, and (3) an extended emission. With this burst pattern, a good candidate, GRB 170228A, was found in the Fermi/GBM archive data, and subsequent temporal and spectral analyses indeed show that GRB 170228A falls in the same cluster with GRB 211211A and GRB 230307A in many diagnostic figures. Thus this burst pattern could be a good reference for rapidly identifying type IL GRB and conducting low-latency follow-up observation. We estimated the occurrence rate and discussed the physical origins and implications for the three emission episodes of type IL GRBs. Our analysis suggests the pre-merger precursor model, especially the super flare model, is more favored for type IL GRBs.

Robot social navigation needs to adapt to different human factors and environmental contexts. However, since these factors and contexts are difficult to predict and cannot be exhaustively enumerated, traditional learning-based methods have difficulty in ensuring the social attributes of robots in long-term and cross-environment deployments. This letter introduces an online context learning method that aims to empower robots to adapt to new social environments online. The proposed method adopts a two-layer structure. The bottom layer is built using a deep reinforcement learning-based method to ensure the output of basic robot navigation commands. The upper layer is implemented using an online robot learning-based method to socialize the control commands suggested by the bottom layer. Experiments using a community-wide simulator show that our method outperforms the state-of-the-art ones. Experimental results in the most challenging scenarios show that our method improves the performance of the state-of-the-art by 8%. Van der Waals multiferroic tunnel junctions (vdW-MFTJs) with multiple nonvolatile resistive states are highly suitable for new physics and next-generation storage electronics. However, currently reported vdW-MFTJs are based on two types of materials, i.e., vdW ferromagnetic and ferroelectric materials, forming a multiferroic system. This undoubtedly introduces additional interfaces, increasing the complexity of experimental preparation. Herein, we engineer vdW intrinsic MFTJs utilizing bilayer VS$_2$. By employing the nonequilibrium Green's function combined with density functional theory, we systematically investigate the influence of three types of electrodes (including non-vdW pure metal Ag/Au, vdW metallic 1T-MoS$_2$/2H-PtTe$_2$, and vdW ferromagnetic metallic Fe$_3$GaTe$_2$/Fe$_3$GeTe$_2$) on the electronic transport properties of VS$_2$-based intrinsic MFTJs. We demonstrate that these MFTJs manifest a giant electrode-dependent electronic transport characteristic effect. Comprehensively comparing these electrode pairs, the Fe$_3$GaTe$_2$/Fe$_3$GeTe$_2$ electrode combination exhibits optimal transport properties, the maximum TMR (TER) can reach 10949\% (69\%) and the minimum resistance-area product (RA) is 0.45 $\Omega$$\mu$m$^{2}$, as well as the perfect spin filtering and negative differential resistance effects. More intriguingly, TMR (TER) can be further enhanced to 34000\% (380\%) by applying an external bias voltage (0.1 V), while RA can be reduced to 0.16 $\Omega$$\mu$m$^{2}$ under the influence of biaxial stress (-3\%). The automotive industry plays a critical role in the global economy, and particularly important is the expanding Chinese automobile market due to its immense scale and influence. However, existing automotive sector datasets are limited in their coverage, failing to adequately consider the growing demand for more and diverse variables. This paper aims to bridge this data gap by introducing a comprehensive dataset spanning the years from 2016 to 2022, encompassing sales data, online reviews, and a wealth of information related to the Chinese automotive industry. This dataset serves as a valuable resource, significantly expanding the available data. Its impact extends to various dimensions, including improving forecasting accuracy, expanding the scope of business applications, informing policy development and regulation, and advancing academic research within the automotive sector. To illustrate the dataset's potential applications in both business and academic contexts, we present two application examples. Our developed dataset enhances our understanding of the Chinese automotive market and offers a valuable tool for researchers, policymakers, and industry stakeholders worldwide.

The analysis of gamma-ray burst (GRB) spectra often relies on empirical models lacking a distinct physical explanation. Previous attempts to couple physical models with observed data focus on individual burst studies, fitting models to segmented spectra with independent physical parameters. However, these approaches typically neglect to explain the time evolution of observed spectra. In this study, we propose a novel approach by incorporating the synchrotron radiation model to provide a self-consistent explanation for a selection of single-pulse GRBs. Our study comprehensively tests the synchrotron model under a unified physical condition, such as a single injection event of electrons. By tracing the evolution of cooling electrons in a decaying magnetic field, our model predicts time-dependent observed spectra that align well with the data. Using a single set of physical parameters, our model successfully fits all time-resolved spectra within each burst. Our model suggests that the rising phase of the GRB light curve results from the increasing number of radiating electrons, while the declining phase is attributed to the curvature effect, electron cooling, and the decaying magnetic field. Our model provides a straightforward interpretation of the peak energy's evolution, linked to the decline of the magnetic field and electron cooling due to the expansion of the GRB emission region. Multiferroic tunnel junctions (MFTJs) based on two-dimensional (2D) van der Waals heterostructures with sharp and clean interfaces at the atomic scale are crucial for applications in nanoscale multi-resistive logic memory devices. The recently discovered sliding ferroelectricity in 2D van der Waals materials has opened new avenues for ferroelectric-based devices. Here, we theoretically investigate the spin-dependent electronic transport properties of Fe$_3$GeTe$_2$/graphene/bilayer-$h$-BN/graphene/CrI$_3$ (FGT/Gr-BBN-Gr/CrI) all-vdW MFTJs by employing the nonequilibrium Green's function combined with density functional theory. We demonstrate that such FGT/Gr-BBN-Gr/CrI MFTJs exhibit four non-volatile resistance states associated with different staking orders of sliding ferroelectric BBN and magnetization alignment of ferromagnetic free layer CrI$_3$, with a maximum tunnel magnetoresistance (electroresistance) ratio, i.e., TMR (TER) up to $\sim$$3.36\times10^{4}$\% ($\sim$$6.68\times10^{3}$\%) at a specific bias voltage. Furthermore, the perfect spin filtering and remarkable negative differential resistance effects are evident in our MFTJs. We further discover that the TMR, TER, and spin polarization ratio under an equilibrium state can be enhanced by the application of in-plane biaxial strain. This work shows that the giant tunneling resistance ratio, multiple resistance states, and excellent spin-polarized transport properties of sliding ferroelectric BBN-based MFTJs indicate its significant potential in nonvolatile memories., Comment: 8 pages, 8 figures

The radiation mechanism (thermal photosphere or magnetic synchrotron) and the progenitor of gamma-ray burst (GRB) are under hot debate. Recently discovered, the prompt long-duration ($\sim$ 10 s, normally from the collapse of massive stars) property of GRB 211211A strongly conflicts with its association with a kilonova (normally from the merger of two compact objects, NS-NS, NS-BH, or NS-WD, duration $\lesssim$ 2 s). In this paper, we find the probability photosphere model with a structured jet can satisfactorily explain this peculiar long duration, through the duration stretching effect ($\sim$ 3 times) on the intrinsic longer ($\sim$ 3 s) duration of NS-BH (neutron star and black hole) merger, the observed empirical 2SBPL spectrum (with soft low-energy index $\alpha$ of $\sim$ -1) and its evolution. Also, much evidence of the NS-BH merger origin is found, especially the well fit of the afterglow-subtracted optical-NIR light curves by the significant thermal cocoon emission and the sole thermal red kilonova component. The brightest Gamma-ray burst, GRB 221009A, has spurred numerous theoretical investigations, with particular attention paid to the origins of ultra-high energy TeV photons during the prompt phase. However, analyzing the mechanism of radiation of photons in the $\sim$MeV range has been difficult because the high flux causes pile-up and saturation effects in most GRB detectors. In this letter, we present systematic modeling of the time-resolved spectra of the GRB using unsaturated data obtained from Fermi/GBM (precursor) and SATech-01/GECAM-C (main emission and flare). Our approach incorporates the synchrotron radiation model, which assumes an expanding emission region with relativistic speed and a global magnetic field that decays with radius, and successfully fits such a model to the observational data. Our results indicate that the spectra of the burst are fully in accordance with a synchrotron origin from relativistic electrons accelerated at a large emission radius. Jet precession has previously been proposed to explain the apparently repeating features in the light curves of a few gamma-ray bursts (GRBs). In this {\it Letter}, we further apply the precession model to a bright GRB 220408B by examining both its temporal and spectral consistency with the predictions of the model. As one of the recently confirmed GRBs observed by our GRID CubeSat mission, GRB 220408B is noteworthy as it exhibits three apparently similar emission episodes. Furthermore, the similarities are reinforced by their strong temporal correlations and similar features in terms of spectral evolution and spectral lags. Our analysis demonstrates that these features can be well explained by the modulated emission of a Fast-Rise-Exponential-Decay (FRED) shape light curve intrinsically produced by a precessing jet with a precession period of $18.4 \pm 0.2$ seconds, a nutation period of $11.1 \pm 0.2$ seconds and viewed off-axis. Most structural and evolutionary properties of galaxies strongly rely on the stellar initial mass function (IMF), namely the distribution of the stellar mass formed in each episode of star formation. As the IMF shapes the stellar population in all stellar systems, it turns out to become one of the most fundamental concepts of modern astronomy. Both constant and variable IMFs across different environments have been claimed despite a large number of theoretical and observational efforts. However, the measurement of the IMF in Galactic stellar populations has been limited by the relatively small number of photometrically observed stars, leading to high uncertainties. Here we report a star-counting result based on ~93,000 spectroscopically observed M-dwarf stars, an order of magnitude more than previous studies, in the 100--300 parsec (pc) Solar neighbourhood. We find unambiguous evidence of a variable IMF that depends on both metallicity and stellar age. Specifically, the stellar population formed at the early time contains fewer low-mass stars compared to the canonical IMF, independent of stellar metallicities. In present days, on the other hand, the proportion of low-mass stars increases with stellar metallicity. We investigate the adiabatic evolution of light in nonlinear waveguide couplers via resonance-locked inverse engineering based on stimulated Raman adiabatic passage (STIRAP). The longitudinal varying detunings of the propagation coefficients are designed to eliminate dynamically the nonlinear effect, which induce the non-adiabatic oscillations. We show that different light evolutions such as complete light transfer, light split and light return can be realized adiabatically with appropriate choices of the detunings even in the nonlinear regime. In the future, service robots are expected to be able to operate autonomously for long periods of time without human intervention. Many work striving for this goal have been emerging with the development of robotics, both hardware and software. Today we believe that an important underpinning of long-term robot autonomy is the ability of robots to learn on site and on-the-fly, especially when they are deployed in changing environments or need to traverse different environments. We study the coupled-top model with three large spins located on a triangle. Depending on the coupling strength, there exist three phases: disordered paramagnetic phase, ferromagnetic phase, and frustrated antiferromagnetic phase, which can be distinguished by the mean-field approach. The paramagnetic-ferromagnetic phase transition is accompanied by the breaking of the global $Z_2$ symmetry, whereas the paramagnetic-antiferromagnetic phase transition is accompanied by the breaking of both the global $Z_2$ symmetry and the translational symmetry. Exact analytical results of higher-order quantum effects beyond the mean-field contribution, such as the excitation energy, quantum fluctuation, and von Neumann entropy, can be achieved by the Holstein-Primakoff transformation and symplectic transformation in the thermodynamic limit. Near the quantum critical point, the energy gap closes, along with the divergence of the quantum fluctuation in certain quadrature and von Neumann entropy. Particular attention should be paid to the antiferromagnetic phase, where geometric frustration takes effect. The critical behaviors in the antiferromagnetic phase are quite different from those in the paramagnetic and ferromagnetic phases, which highlight the importance of geometric frustration. Social compatibility is one of the most important parameters for service robots. It characterizes the quality of interaction between a robot and a human. In this paper, a human-centered benchmarking framework is proposed for socially-compliant robot navigation. In an end-to-end manner, four open-source robot navigation methods are benchmarked, two of which are socially-compliant. All aspects of the benchmarking are clarified to ensure the reproducibility and replicability of the experiments. The social compatibility of robot navigation methods with the Robotic Social Attributes Scale (RoSAS) is measured. After that, the correspondence between RoSAS and the robot-centered metrics is validated. Jellium model achieved great success in predicting stable clusters with closed electronic shells and zero spin. In order to explain the stability of open shell clusters, it is necessary to consider the case of non-degenerate energy levels. In this paper the energy levels in nine low-lying Li$_{19}$ clusters are analysed systematically through superatomic orbital splitting effect. It is found that for originally degenerate orbitals like five 1D orbitals, the more the orbital extends in the direction of the cluster extension, the lower the energy of the orbital becomes. So oblate Li$_{19}$ clusters have the orbital sequence of $1\mathrm{S}^2-1\mathrm{P}_{x/y}^{4}-1\mathrm{P}_{z}^{2}-1\mathrm{D}_{xy/x^2-y^2}^{4}-2\mathrm{S}^2-1\mathrm{D}_{xz/yz}^{4}-1\mathrm{D}_{z^2}^{1}$, while prolate Li$_{19}$ clusters have the sequence of $1\mathrm{S}^2-1\mathrm{P}_{z}^{2}-1\mathrm{P}_{x/y}^{4}-1\mathrm{D}_{z^2}^{2}-1\mathrm{D}_{xz/yz}^{4}-1\mathrm{D}_{xy/x^2-y^2}^{4}-2\mathrm{S}^1$. This electron configuration is applied to predict the shape and magnetic moment of the alkali metal Li$_{n}$ clusters. The stability of the Li$_{14}$ cluster can be successfully interpreted in the framework of orbital splitting effect without resorting to the super valence bond (SVB) model, indicating a non-spherical cluster can achieve good stability without meeting the magic number. It is also proposed that the orbital splitting can be used to predict the shape (prolate, oblate or sphere) and magnetic moment of clusters. 11 out of 16 predicted shapes of Li$_n(n=3-18)$ are consistent with the results obtained by the principle of minimum energy.
