13. Spectral CT Reconstruction via Low-rank Representation and Structure Preserving Regularization

Abstract

With the development of computed tomography (CT) imaging technology, it is possible to acquire multi-energy data by spectral CT. Being different from conventional CT, the X-ray energy spectrum of spectral CT is cutting into several narrow bins which leads to the result that only a part of photon can be collected in each individual energy channel, which cause the image qualities to be severely degraded by noise and artifacts. To address this problem, we propose a spectral CT reconstruction algorithm based on low-rank representation and structure preserving regularization in this paper. To make full use of the prior knowledge about both the inter-channel correlation and the sparsity in gradient domain of inner-channel data, this paper combines a low-rank correlation descriptor with a structure extraction operator as priori regularization terms for spectral CT reconstruction. Furthermore, a split-Bregman based iterative algorithm is developed to solve the reconstruction model. Finally, we propose a multi-channel adaptive parameters generation strategy according to CT values of each individual energy channel. Experimental results on numerical simulations and real mouse data indicate that the proposed algorithm achieves higher accuracy on both reconstruction and material decomposition than the methods based on simultaneous algebraic reconstruction technique (SART), total variation minimization (TVM), total variation with low-rank (LRTV), and spatial-spectral cube matching frame (SSCMF). Compared with SART, our algorithm improves the feature similarity (FSIM) by 40.4% on average for numerical simulation reconstruction, whereas TVM, LRTV, and SSCMF correspond to 26.1%, 28.2%, and 29.5%, respectively., Comment: 21 pages, 9 figures

Abstract

In response to the difficulty in obtaining perfect channel state information (CSI) in high mobility scenarios leaded to the deterioration of the performance of reconfigurable intelligent surface multiple-input multiple-output (RIS-MIMO) system’s active and passive beamforming algorithms issue, a communication model for millimeter-wave MIMO relay in high-speed railways assisted by RIS was constructed. Firstly, with incomplete train position information, the statistical characteristics of the line of sight (LOS) angle estimation error between RIS and mobile relay node (MRN) were estimated and derived. Secondly, the outage performance of the millimeter-wave MIMO system was studied, and an expression of outage probability based on channel capacity was given. Finally, the optimization problem was modelled as a minimum outage probability problem constrained by base station transmit power. To solve this problem, a complex circle manifold optimization algorithm based on accelerated riemann conjugate gradient was proposed. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm has faster convergence speed and higher system robustness by comparing it with the existing algorithms and the traditional without RIS system, as well as the high-speed railway (HSR) communication system under RIS random phase adjustment.

Abstract

ADNP syndrome is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by autism, intellectual disability, and other physical and behavioral health manifestations. Mutations in ADNP gene is responsible for ADNP syndrome. A human iPSC line with a de novo heterozygous ADNP mutation (ADNP c. 2059 T>C) was generated from peripheral blood mononuclear cells of a patient with ADNP syndrome. This iPSC line showed typical human embryonic stem cell-like morphology, normal karyotype, pluripotency, and ability to differentiate into three germ layers. This iPSC line provides a useful resource to study the pathogenesis and drug screening of ADNP syndrome.

Abstract

IntroductionFragile X syndrome (FXS) is a X-linked neurodevelopmental disorder (NDD). This study aims to investigate the incidence of FXS in Chinese children and analyze the comprehensive clinical characteristics of these FXS children.MethodsChildren diagnosed with idiopathic NDD were recruited between 2016 and 2021 from the department of Child Health Care, Children's Hospital of Fudan University. We combined tetraplet-primed PCR-capillary electrophoresis and whole exome sequencing (WES)/panel or array-based comparative genomic hybridization (array-CGH) to identify the size of the CGG repeats and the mutations or copy number variations (CNVs) in the genome and in FMR1. The clinical features of FXS children were analyzed according to pediatricians' recording, parental questionnaires, the results of examinations and follow-up.ResultsThe incidence of FXS in Chinese children with idiopathic NDD was 2.4% (42/1753) and in those with FXS, 2.38% had a deletion (1/42). Here, we present the clinical characteristics of 36 children with FXS. Overweight was observed in two boys. The average intelligence quotient (IQ)/development quotient (DQ) of all FXS patients was 48. The average ages of meaningful words and walking alone were 2 years and 10 months and 1 year and 7 months, respectively. The most frequent repetitive behavior was stimulated by hyperarousal to sensory stimulation. On social aspects, social withdrawal, social anxiety, and shyness accounted for 75%, 58%, and 56% of the total number of children, respectively. Approximately 60% of FXS children in this cohort were emotionally labile and prone to temper tantrums. Self-injury and aggression toward others could also be observed, at 19% and 28%, respectively. The most frequent behavioral problem was attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) seen in 64% and the most common facial features were a narrow and elongated face and large or prominent ears in 92% of patients.DiscussionScreening of FMR1 full mutation provides the possibility for patients' further medical supports and the clinical features of FXS children obtained in this study will increase the understanding and diagnosis of FXS.

40. Novel Variants of the 'SMARCA4' Gene Associated with Autistic Features Rather than Typical Coffin-Siris Syndrome in Eight Chinese Pediatric Patients

Abstract

Autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) are a group of neurodevelopmental-related disorders with a high genetic risk. Recently, chromatin remodeling factors have been found to be related to ASDs. "SMARCA4" is such a catalytic subunit of the chromatin-remodeling complex. In this report, we identified seven novel missense variants in the "SMARCA4" gene from eight pediatric patients. All eight patients had moderate to severe intellectual disability, and seven showed autistic/likely autistic features. Compared with the patients reported in the literature, our patients were less likely to show craniofacial or finger/toe anomalies. Our findings further supported that "SMARCA4" is associated with ASDs. We suggest that individuals with the abovementioned phenotypes should consider genetic testing.

50. Supporting the Changing Practices of Teaching in Business at Queens College, City University of New York. An Ithaka S+R Research Project. Local Report

Abstract

This investigation sheds light on the teaching practices of Queens College (QC) faculty in Business. It identifies the Business faculty's teaching support needs in order to develop ideas for improving Library services to them. This report is the result of research conducted under the guidance of Ithaka S+R, and in accordance with Office of Regulatory Compliance procedures at QC. Using a grounded theory approach to qualitative research, the investigators conducted in-person audio-recorded semi-structured interviews of seven full-time QC faculty who teach Business courses. Evidence derived from the transcribed interviews informed analysis of the current state of QC's Business teaching experience, covering the areas of teaching methods, curricular goals & examinations, teaching tools, student outcomes & challenges, and teaching sources. This report concludes that the Library can investigate support opportunities in six areas through further discussions within its department, with potential college partners, and with the Business faculty. (1) Events in Library spaces may foster Business student engagement and career readiness; (2) Instruction efforts can expand the Library teaching of Business-related information and skills; (3) Personnel knowledgeable to teach Business-related information and skills are needed; (4) Promotion efforts may be able to address student challenges; (5) Resources, new or improved, can be acquired for Business-related information content; and (6) Spaces can be extended for all kinds of teaching, and new spaces can be developed for data & trading.
