In this study, we present a microstructural and mechanical analysis of Ti–6Al–4V alloys processed by low-temperature multi-directional forging at 900 °C, achieving near-theoretical density (99.9%), with a tensile strength of 1070 MPa and elongation of 14.9%. The microstructure is defined by both continuous and discontinuous dynamic recrystallization occurring simultaneously, related to an increase in dislocation density. Significantly, this study reveals the interaction between crystallographic orientation and spheroidization during the forging process. Specifically, changes in crystallographic orientation include the asynchronous formation of new subgrains/grains, the disruption of the Burgers orientation relationship, and rotation around the axis, which not only increases the orientation differences between α lamellae but also enhances the spheroidization process. Moreover, our findings demonstrate that during deformation, the activation of basal and pyramidal slip systems is favored over prismatic slip, indicating that the forging process has enhanced slip activity. The average misorientation angle and the fraction of high-angle grain boundaries are quantified, providing a detailed characterization of the evolved microstructure. This study adopts a new perspective to examine the microstructural evolution during the multidirectional forging process in powder metallurgy, presenting findings that elucidate how multidirectional forging effectively controls.

To overcome the disadvantage of the Arrhenius constitutive (AC) equation in predicting complex nonlinear flow behaviors, this work employed an artificial neural network (ANN) to introduce a proportional coefficient reflecting changes in softening mechanisms under various hot deformation conditions, thereby enhancing the applicability of the AC model. The result demonstrates that, compared to the AC model, the ANN-AC model effectively compensates for errors resulting from different softening mechanisms during hot deformation, with RMSE and MAPE decreasing by 62.47% and 63.75%, respectively. Additionally, the microstructure aligns with the evolution of the power dissipation factor (η) predicted by the ANN-AC model, indicating the map's accuracy. Microstructure analysis shows that discontinuous dynamic recrystallization (DDRX) grains nucleate adjacent to the original grain boundaries at low temperatures and high strain rates, while continuous dynamic recrystallization (CDRX) grains primarily form within original grains at high temperatures and low strain rates. The results reveal the effect of grain orientation on DRX, with //CD (compression direction) oriented grains capable of activating multiple slip systems, indicating a propensity for the CDRX mechanism, whereas //CD oriented grains, with fewer slip systems, promote DDRX through coordinated deformation via grain boundary motion.

Multistage thermomechanical treatment experiments were conducted on Cu–Ni–Co–Si–Mg alloy strip prepared by the Heating Cooling Combined Mold (HCCM) horizontal continuous casting-cold rolling process. Effects of various heat treatments on the microstructure, mechanical properties, and electrical conductivity of the alloy were studied. The strengthening mechanisms and factors influencing the performance of each process has been analyzed. The tensile strength, yield strength, and electrical conductivity of Cu–Ni–Co–Si–Mg alloy can reach 894 MPa, 855 MPa, and 47.1 %IACS after a third-stage of thermomechanical treatment (TTMT). The cold rolling in first-stage of thermomechanical treatment (FTMT) not only caused work hardening of the alloy but also promoted the precipitation of solute atoms and the growth of second phase particles, limiting the increase in strength. Second-stage of thermomechanical treatment (STMT) effectively hindered the excessive growth of second phase particles in FTMT but shortened recrystallization process. The superior performance of Cu–Ni–Co–Si–Mg alloy after TTMT was attributed to dispersive precipitation of Ni, Co, and Si elements as (Ni, Co) 2Si phases in the copper matrix, strengthening the interaction between the precipitates and dislocations. A short process of HCCM horizontal continuous casting-cold rolling-thermomechanical treatment was developed to produce a high strength and highly electrically conductive Cu–Ni–Co–Si alloy strip used in lead frames.

Abstract Silicate bioceramics have demonstrated great potential in hydrogel dressings for wound healing due to their special origins of promoting endothelial cell angiogenesis and inhibiting apoptosis of cardiomyocyte. However, there are still some deficiencies, such as insufficient biological activity, instability of silicate ion release, and lower wet adhesion on wounds with tissue exudate, limiting their further clinical applications. Herein, inspired by mussels, a multifunctional double-network hydrogel (FS/PAM-Gel-PDA) wound dressing composited gelatin with silicate ceramic powder with satisfactory wet adhesion, stable release of bioactive ions, hemostasis, and the ability of promoting vascular regeneration was engineered through specifically grafting dopamine to gelatin and introducing ferrous silicate ceramic powder into the hydrogel. The comprehensive experimental results substantiate that the FS/PAM-Gel-PDA has wet-adhesion strength of up to 21.78 kPa, and remains stably adherent to porcine myocardial tissues intuitively after bending, twisting, soaking in water, and stretching. The test results of ion release behavior in vitro show that the oxidation and agglomeration of ferrous silicate ceramic powder can be effectively inhibited by using dopamine to form an antioxidant layer on the surface of ceramic powder, and thus, the stable release of Fe2+ and SiO4 4− effective ions can be realized. The animal experiment exhibits that FS/PAM-Gel-PDA can achieve rapid hemostasis in the lethal liver defect model. Meanwhile, the FS/PAM-Gel-PDA reveals the remarkable ability to promote wound healing in a full-thickness skin injury model, which can obviously accelerate skin re-epithelialization. To sum up, the FS/PAM-Gel-PDA has excellent wet adhesion and stable release of active ions to accelerate angiogenesis, which shows great potential in promoting wound healing. Graphical Abstract

Automatic assembly equipment is the key to improving the efficiency and quality of workpiece assembly. The precision of assembly directly influences the overall quality of the assembled product. To optimise the position control accuracy in the automatic assembly equipment, a variable universe fuzzy proportional integral (VUFPI) controller optimised by the sparrow search algorithm (SSA) is developed in this paper. The developed controller adopts the SSA to adjust in real time the universe of the fuzzy controller according to the deviation of the servo system. The servo system model is established to evaluate the performance of the proposed SSA-VUFPI controller; furthermore, the SSA-VUFPI controller is implemented in the automatic assembly equipment for experimental evaluation. The analysis results demonstrate that the proposed SSA-VUFPI controller is capable of improving the anti-interference ability and position accuracy of the servo system compared to traditional PI, VUFPI, and currently used back propagation neural network proportional-integral-derivative (BP-PID), fractional-order PID (FOPID), and SSA-PID controllers. Moreover, it effectively improves the position accuracy of the workpiece and ultimately improves the quality of the assembly.

The skin microbiota plays an essential role in helping the host adapt to different environments and maintain health. By examining the characteristics of amphibian skin flora alongside ontogenetic traits, we can gain insights into the adaptation mechanisms of amphibian skin flora to environmental changes during development. In this study, we analyzed the skin microbiota of Quasipaa spinosa during metamorphosis using Illumina sequencing. Venn diagrams and UpSet analysis revealed that the LTS (hindlimb tadpoles’ skin, aquatic habitat) and FTS (forelimb tadpoles’ skin, shift from aquatic to amphibious habitats) groups exhibited a higher number of unique amplicon sequence variants (ASVs), while the TS (tadpoles’ skin, aquatic habitat) and LFS (land frogs’ skin, amphibious habitats) groups displayed a lower abundance of ASVs. Diversity analysis indicated similarities in the microorganisms between the LTS and the FTS groups, with higher microbial diversity compared to the TS and the LFS groups. Additionally, microbial co-occurrence network analysis indicated a more stable microecology in the LTS group and FTS group. Proteobacteria, Firmicutes, and Bacteroidota were identified as the dominant phyla, although their relative abundances varied widely among groups. LEfSe (Linear discriminant analysis effect size) showed significant enrichment of beneficial bacteria at various developmental stages, including Bacteroides, Bacillus, and Lactobacillus. Functional prediction analysis shows significant differences in skin microorganism functions across various developmental stages, with a primary focus on metabolic functions. This study provides valuable insights into the compositional dynamics of skin microbiota in Q. spinosa at various developmental stages.

BackgroundPostoperative Intestinal Adhesions (PIAs) remain a significant complication of abdominal surgery that can cause pain, infertility, and a potentially lethal bowel obstruction. Kangnian (KN) decoction, a Traditional Chinese Medicine prescription, has been shown to be effective in treating PIAs. Nevertheless, its underlying mechanisms remain unclear.ObjectiveThis study aims to explore the therapeutic effects of KN decoction in a PIA rat model, as well as its potential mechanisms via metabolomics and proteomics analyses.Materials and methods60 rats were randomly assigned to six groups: Normal Control (NC), PIA model, Dexamethasone, KN-Low, KN-Medium, and KN-High. The PIA model was created by abdominal surgery under anesthesia. Pathological damage was evaluated through H&E staining and adhesion grading of affected tissues. The levels of serum cytokines (IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α, and TGF-1), Connective Tissue Growth Factor (CTGF), and Motilin (MTL) in adherent intestinal tissues were detected using ELISA kits. Untargeted metabolomics was used to investigate potential metabolic pathways of the KN decoction intervention in intestinal adhesions and to screen for differential biomarkers. The label-free quantitative proteomics technique was employed to detect Differentially Expressed Proteins and for biological function and pathway enrichment analyses.ResultsIn PIA rats, KN decoction significantly improved the pathological injury associated with intestinal adhesions and effectively regulated the blood inflammation indicators. Furthermore, KN presented a favorable anti-fibrotic and protective effect against abdominal adhesions, effectively modifying gastrointestinal motility disorders in PIA rats. We identified 58 variables as potential biomarkers and discovered seven main pathological pathways that may be associated with PIAs. Proteomics analysis revealed 75 DEPs that were primarily involved in Valine, leucine, and isoleucine degradation, the MAPK signaling pathway, and retrograde endocannabinoid signaling.ConclusionThis study proved that KN reduces intestinal mucosal injury, downregulates inflammatory factors, and alleviates intestinal adhesions, thus protecting the intestinal barrier function in PIA rats. The combination of proteomics and metabolomics provided a feasible approach for unraveling the therapeutic mechanism of KN decoction in PIAs.

Abstract The issues of health assessment and lifespan prediction have always been prominent challenges in the large‐scale application of lithium‐ion batteries (LIBs). This paper reviews the multiscale modeling techniques and their applications in battery health analysis, including atomic scale computational chemistry, particle scale reaction simulations, electrode scale structural models, macroscale electrochemical models, and data‐driven models at the system level. Multiscale modeling offers a profound insight into material behavior and the aging process of batteries, thereby providing a valuable reference for both estimation and management strategies of battery state of health. To extend the battery lifespan, the utilization of artificial intelligence for material discovery and manufacturing process optimization, the implementation of end‐cloud collaborative battery management systems, and the design of a multiscale simulation integration platform are considered. A management framework aimed at extending battery life is further proposed. This framework offers a promising roadmap for addressing health analysis challenges in LIBs, ultimately leading to more reliable, efficient, and durable solutions for next‐generation batteries.

Abstract Background Elderly patients suffering from osteoporotic fractures are more susceptible to delayed union or nonunion, and their bodies then are in a state of low-grade chronic inflammation with decreased antioxidant capacity. Tanshinone IIA is widely used in treating cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases in China and has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. We aimed to observe the antioxidant effects of Tanshinone IIA on mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), which play important roles in bone repair, and the effects of local application of Tanshinone IIA using an injectable biodegradable hydrogel on osteoporotic fracture healing. Methods MSCs were pretreated with or without different concentrations of Tanshinone IIA followed by H2O2 treatment. Ovariectomized (OVX) C57BL/6 mice received a mid-shaft transverse osteotomy fracture on the left tibia, and Tanshinone IIA was applied to the fracture site using an injectable hydrogel. Results Tanshinone IIA pretreatment promoted the expression of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 and antioxidant enzymes, and inhibited H2O2-induced reactive oxygen species accumulation in MSCs. Furthermore, Tanshinone IIA reversed H2O2-induced apoptosis and decrease in osteogenic differentiation in MSCs. After 4 weeks of treatment with Tanshinone IIA in OVX mice, the bone mineral density of the callus was significantly increased and the biomechanical properties of the healed tibias were improved. Cell apoptosis was decreased and Nrf2 expression was increased in the early stage of callus formation. Conclusions Taken together, these results indicate that Tanshinone IIA can activate antioxidant enzymes to protect MSCs from H2O2-induced cell apoptosis and osteogenic differentiation inhibition. Local application of Tanshinone IIA accelerates fracture healing in ovariectomized mice.

To develop emerging electrode materials and improve the performances of batteries, the machine learning techniques can provide insights to discover, design and develop battery new materials in high-throughput way. In this paper, two deep learning models are developed and trained with two feature groups extracted from the Materials Project datasets to predict the battery electrochemical performances including average voltage, specific capacity and specific energy. The deep learning models are trained with the multilayer perceptron as the core. The Bayesian optimization and Monte Carlo methods are applied to improve the prediction accuracy of models. Based on 10 types of ion batteries, the correlation coefficients are maintained above 0.9 compared to DFT calculation results and the mean absolute error of the prediction results for voltages of two models can reach 0.41 V and 0.20 V, respectively. The electrochemical performance prediction times for the two trained models on thousands of batteries are only 72.9 ms and 75.7 ms. Besides, the two deep learning models are applied to approach the screening of emerging electrode materials for sodium-ion and potassium-ion batteries. This work can contribute to a high-throughput computational method to accelerate the rational and fast materials discovery and design.

Significant improvement of bending properties (approximately 64.7%) for WE43 magnesium alloy was realized by weakening the basal texture and raising the deformation temperature. The mechanisms for such improvement were investigated in detail by combining the experiment and finite element model. The results concluded that the coupling effects of weak basal texture and high deformation temperature was the key reason producing the above improvement of bending properties. Specially, the TD sample with weak basal texture was more conducive to activating basal slip than the RD sample, resulting in its higher strain hardenability and consequently more significant bending properties. Based on weak basal texture, raising the deformation temperature could further improve the bending properties. This improvement mechanism was attributed to the abundant activations of non-basal slip instead of basal slip, which could increase the independent slip systems and efficiently delay the development of the strong basal texture. Moreover, the occurrence of partial DRV and DRX relieved the stress concentrations by consuming the dislocations, further improving the bending properties. The activations of these deformation mechanisms matching the corresponding bending stress states caused the crystal rotation and the texture variety in the bending samples. Basal slip activation aligned the (0002) basal planes parallel to tensile stress in the outer region or perpendicular to compressive stress in the inner region. Additionally, prismatic slip activation induced crystal rotation around the c-axis, developing //LD texture in the outer region but ⊥LD texture in the inner region.

Polyepoxysuccinic acid (PESA) was modified by glycidyl (Gly) to obtain a phosphate-free and nitrogen-free polymer (Gly-PESA), and its scale and corrosion inhibition properties were studied.The effects of Gly-PESA concentration, calcium ion concentration and temperature to scale inhibition performance were studied by static scale inhibition method. The corrosion inhibition performance of Gly-PESA was studied by static weight-loss method. The morphology and structure of calcium scale and steel surface were characterized by spectroscopic and microscopic methods. The scale inhibition efficiency of Gly-PESA for CaCO3 and CaSO4 was 98.06% and 92.6%, respectively. Under the same experimental conditions, the scale inhibition effect of Gly-PESA was obviously better than that of PESA. Gly-PESA could effectively inhibit the growth of CaCO3 and CaSO4 crystals and cause their crystal lattice distortion or crystal dispersion. The corrosion inhibition efficiency of Gly-PESA for carbon steel was 78.17%. The adsorption of Gly-PESA on the surface of the steel test piece followed Langmuir adsorption isotherm, and formed a protective film, which increased the corrosion resistance of the steel test piece, thus effectively protecting the steel test piece. Therefore, Gly-PESA was a green scale and corrosion inhibitor, which solved the problem of environmental pollution.

This study employs the stochastic frontier model (SFM) to analyze trade potential and efficiency in wheat and maize among Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) countries from 2002 to 2021, encompassing 45 countries for wheat trade and 55 for maize trade. The empirical findings reveal that economic development level, population growth, government efficiency, political stability, and regulatory quality are critical determinants of trade efficiency. Notably, World Trade Organization (WTO) membership exhibits a negative correlation with trade efficiency, potentially reflecting challenges in rule implementation and opportunity utilization among member states. In the context of maize trade, increased arable land area is inversely associated with efficiency, suggesting potential issues in managing large-scale agricultural regions or optimizing land use. The BRI’s impact on trade efficiency varies across countries, with Turkey and Hungary showing improved wheat trade efficiency, while Ethiopia and Georgia experienced declines. During the COVID-19 pandemic, effective disease management strategies and diversified trade mechanisms significantly influenced trade efficiency. Furthermore, the study reveals that larger economies do not necessarily outperform small and medium-sized economies in terms of trade potential. These findings contribute significantly to the literature on agricultural trade and offer valuable insights for policymakers, emphasizing the importance of enhancing government efficiency, political stability, and regulatory quality in the context of regional economic development initiatives such as the BRI. This research underscores the need for tailored approaches to trade policy and agricultural management, considering the unique characteristics and challenges faced by different economies along BRI.

Histone deacetylates family proteins have been studied for their function in regulating viral replication by deacetylating non-histone proteins. RIG-I (Retinoic acid-inducible gene I) is a critical protein in RNA virus-induced innate antiviral signaling pathways. Our previous research showed that HDAC8 (histone deacetylase 8) involved in innate antiviral immune response, but the underlying mechanism during virus infection is still unclear. In this study, we showed that HDAC8 was involved in the regulation of vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV) replication. Over-expression of HDAC8 inhibited while knockdown promoted VSV replication. Further exploration demonstrated that HDAC8 interacted with and deacetylated RIG-I, which eventually lead to enhance innate antiviral immune response. Collectively, our data clearly demonstrated that HDAC8 inhibited VSV replication by promoting RIG-I mediated interferon production and downstream signaling pathway.

Macrocyclic polyamines constitute a significant class of macrocyclic compounds that play a pivotal role in the realm of supramolecular chemistry. They find extensive applications across diverse domains including industrial and agricultural production, clinical diagnostics, environmental protection and other multidisciplinary fields. Macrocyclic polyamines possess a distinctive cavity structure with varying sizes, depths, electron-richness degrees and flexibilities. This unique feature enables them to form specific supramolecular structures through complexation with diverse objects, thereby attracting considerable attention from chemists, biologists and materials scientists alike. However, there is currently a lack of comprehensive summaries on the synthesis methods for macrocyclic polyamines. In this review article, we provide an in-depth introduction to the synthesis of macrocyclic polyamines while analysing their respective advantages and disadvantages. Furthermore, we also present an overview of the recent 5-year advancements in using macrocyclic polyamines as non-viral gene vectors, fluorescent probes, diagnostic and therapeutic reagents as well as catalysts. Looking ahead to future research directions on the synthesis and application of macrocyclic polyamines across various fields will hopefully inspire new ideas for their synthesis and use.

In recent years, burgeoning research has underscored the pivotal role of non-coding RNA in orchestrating the growth, development, and pathogenesis of various diseases across organisms. However, despite these advances, our understanding of the specific contributions of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) and circular RNAs (circRNAs) to lens development remains notably limited. Clarifying the intricate gene regulatory networks is imperative for unraveling the molecular underpinnings of lens-related disorders. In this study, we aimed to address this gap by conducting a comprehensive analysis of the expression profiles of messenger RNAs (mRNAs), lncRNAs, and circRNAs at critical developmental time points of the mouse lens, encompassing both embryonic (E10.5, E12.5, and E16.5) and postnatal stages (P0.5, P10.5, and P60). Leveraging RNA-sequencing technology, we identified key transcripts pivotal to lens development. Our analysis revealed differentially expressed (DE) mRNAs, lncRNAs, and circRNAs across various developmental stages. Particularly noteworthy, there were 1831 co-differentially expressed (CO-DE) mRNAs, 150 CO-DE lncRNAs, and 13 CO-DE circRNAs identified during embryonic stages. Gene Ontology (GO) enrichment analysis unveiled associations primarily related to lens development, DNA conformational changes, and angiogenesis among DE mRNAs and lncRNAs. Furthermore, employing protein–protein interaction networks, mRNA–lncRNA co-expression networks, and circRNA–microRNA–mRNA networks, we predicted candidate key molecules implicated in lens development. Our findings underscore the pivotal roles of lncRNAs and circRNAs in this process, offering fresh insights into the pathogenesis of lens-related disorders and paving the way for future exploration in this field.

Limitations on data volume and quality are key bottlenecks in using machine learning for property prediction and property-oriented composition design of non-oriented silicon steel. In response, this study employed a Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) to generate virtual samples for enhancing the in-house experimental data, by which the generated virtual data well captured the distribution of the raw experimental data. As a result, compared with the model without data augmentation, the enhanced prediction model (composition → property) fitted by virtual samples improved its R2 value from 0.52 to 0.86. Based on this model, a multi-properties-oriented (yield strength σs, magnetic induction B50, and iron loss P10/400) composition prediction model (property → composition) was established to rapidly discover high-performance non-oriented silicon steel. Experimental characterization and theory calculation of the explored candidate alloys exhibited that their yield strength was above 750 MPa, which primarily results from solid solution strengthening (50 %) and precipitation strengthening (36 %). Moreover, the alloys possessed magnetic induction B50 of over 1.72 T and low core losses with P10/400 of 12.1 W/kg (0.2 mm) and 17.0 W/kg (0.35 mm). Further microstructural characterization exhibited that such satisfactory performance is associated with copper (Cu)-rich nanoprecipitates that dramatically improved the yield strength without deteriorating the magnetic properties.

Abstract Implantable bioelectronic devices (IBDs) have gained attention for their capacity to conformably detect physiological and pathological signals and further provide internal therapy. However, traditional power sources integrated into these IBDs possess intricate limitations such as bulkiness, rigidity, and biotoxicity. Recently, artificial “tissue batteries” (ATBs) have diffusely developed as artificial power sources for IBDs manufacturing, enabling comprehensive biological‐activity monitoring, diagnosis, and therapy. ATBs are on‐demand and designed to accommodate the soft and confining curved placement space of organisms, minimizing interface discrepancies, and providing ample power for clinical applications. This review presents the near‐term advancements in ATBs, with a focus on their miniaturization, flexibility, biodegradability, and power density. Furthermore, it delves into material‐screening, structural‐design, and energy density across three distinct categories of TBs, distinguished by power supply strategies. These types encompass innovative energy storage devices (chemical batteries and supercapacitors), power conversion devices that harness power from human‐body (biofuel cells, thermoelectric nanogenerators, bio‐potential devices, piezoelectric harvesters, and triboelectric devices), and energy transfer devices that receive and utilize external energy (radiofrequency‐ultrasound energy harvesters, ultrasound‐induced energy harvesters, and photovoltaic devices). Ultimately, future challenges and prospects emphasize ATBs with the indispensability of bio‐safety, flexibility, and high‐volume energy density as crucial components in long‐term implantable bioelectronic devices.

Overstaffing production in underground coal mining is not convenient for daily management, and incomplete information of coal miners hinders the rescue process of firefighters during mine accidents. To address this safety sustainability issue, a novel face recognition method based on an improved multiscale neural network is proposed in this paper. A new depthwise separable (DS)-inception block is designed and a joint supervised loss function based on center loss theory is developed to construct a new multiscale model. The miniers can be recognized in the harsh underground environment during the life rescue. Experimental results show that the accuracy, recall and F1-score indexes of the proposed method for the miner face recognition in the underground mining environment are 97.26%, 94.17% and 95.42%, respectively. Transfer model with joint supervised loss can effectively improve the recognition accuracy by about 0.5–1.5%. In addition, the average recognition accuracy of the proposed face recognition method achieves to 91.34% and the miss detection rate is less than 5% in the dugout tunnel of coal mine.

Abstract Under the global carbon neutrality initiative, carbon emissions from the transportation sector are becoming increasingly prominent due to the growth in vehicle ownership. And electric mobility may be a potentially effective measure to reduce road traffic carbon emissions and achieve a green transformation of transportation. This paper systematically collates the relevant carbon accounting standards for the automotive industry and elaborates the current status of road transport greenhouse gas emissions by combining the data from the International Energy Agency. And by comparing the lifecycle carbon footprint of various energy types of vehicles, the necessity and feasibility of electric mobility to reduce carbon emissions are discussed. However, the comparison of vehicle lifecycle carbon footprints shows that electric vehicles (EVs) are not as environmentally friendly as expected, although they can significantly reduce road traffic carbon emissions. The high carbon emissions from the manufacturing process of the core components of EVs, especially the power battery, reduce the low‐carbon potential of electric mobility. Therefore, the carbon emission reduction strategies and outcomes of automakers in the automotive industry chain have been further reviewed. Finally, focusing on vehicle power batteries, this article reviews the technologies such as refined management and echelon utilization that can make EVs more environmentally friendly and promote carbon neutrality in the transportation sector.

Culters are a popular and economically important carnivorous freshwater fish, widely distributed in rivers, lakes, and reservoirs in China. An investigation of Myxozoa was conducted to enhance the understanding of Myxozoan diversity in Culters in China, as only 15 Myxosporean species have been previously reported in 6 Culters species. A new species with typical Myxobolus characteristics was discovered exclusively in the gills of Chanodichthys dabryi, Bleeker, 1871, and no other species were found in other Culters fish or organs. The new species elicited whitish plasmodia in the serosa layer of the gill arch, with no distinct inflammatory reaction observed. This species is morphologically different from all reported Myxobolus spp. from Culters, differing in plasmodium and spore size, as well as the coils of polar filaments. Molecular analysis further supports that it does not match any sequences available in GenBank. Therefore, we identified it as a new species and named it Myxobolus dabryi n. sp.

Springback error is a major obstacle in L-bending sheets via cold working. Although thermal processing can effectively reduce the springback phenomenon, it is challenging to heat the sheet globally due to the influence of working conditions. Therefore, this study applied local induction heating to reduce the springback of 45 steel sheets and investigated the effects of bending parameters on springback behavior. Initially, a thermodynamic coupling model and a static model were created utilizing the VOCE hardening model and the von Mises yield criterion in the ANSYS workbench 2022 R2 software. The springback behavior and stress distribution of the sheets were then investigated under different temperatures (room temperature and 800 °C) and bending angles (15°, 30°, 45°, 60°, 75°, and 90°). Simultaneously, the experiments were performed to investigate springback behavior and guarantee the accuracy of the model. The results indicate that the springback reached a minimum value at the 45° bending angle at room temperature while increasing with the increasing bending angle under 800 °C local heating. The springback under local heating can be decreased by 75.2% and the error of the bending angle can improve by 2–7° compared with samples processed in room temperature.

In view of the unclear mechanism evolution of the two-leg shield during the active support process, the planar kinematic model of two-leg shield is established, the necessary conditions for the mechanism evolution of the shield are obtained, and the active cooperative control strategy of the stabilizing ram and the leg is proposed. Theoretical analysis and experimental studies show that whether mechanism evolution occurs in the active support process of the two-leg shield depends on the state of the canopy in contact with the roof and the state of the stabilizing ram; The canopy is in contact with the roof in an elevation, the canopy evolves from a rocker to a "rocker + slider", and the base evolves from a rack to a rocker when the stabilizing ram is a rigid body; When the stabilizing ram is a rigid body, with the leg elongation, the motion form of the canopy is the slide along the roof toward the coal wall and the rotation toward the roof, and the motion form of the base is the rotation around the front toe of the base toward the coal wall, and the motion trajectories of the canopy and the base show a quadratic function, and the larger the elevation angle of the canopy, the greater the distance of the slip of the canopy and the height of the lift of the base; When the stabilizing ram is a floating body, with the leg elongation, the motion form of the canopy is the slide along the roof and the rotation toward the roof, the base does not move, the length of the stabilizing ram changes as a quadratic function, while the trajectory of the canopy shows a cubic function, and the slip distance is very small, as well as reciprocating motion may occur. The proposed active cooperative control strategy of stabilizing ram and the leg can effectively avoid the suction air of stabilizing ram and the mechanism evolution of the shield. The research results reasonably explain the interference phenomenon between shearer and canopy of the shield in Pingdingshan mining area, which provides a new idea for studying the active cooperative control of leg and stabilizing ram.

ABSTRACTTexture adjusting approaches of divergence, inclination, and deviation were proposed to improve the tension-compression asymmetry in magnesium alloys. The dominant deformation mechanism during tensile and compressive yielding was quantified based on the Sachs assumption and primarily manifested as the extent of twinning inhibition and the transition between twinning and slip with the variation of texture adjustment. Its impacts on associated yield strength and asymmetry were estimated by the modified Hall-Petch relationship. Slight texture adjustments, particularly of basal texture divergence, can significantly improve the strength asymmetry while avoiding severe strength loss, illustrating the significance and potential of texture adjustment in engineering.

Abstract Background Treatment of pediatric cataract remains challenging because of the extremely high incidence of postoperative adverse events (AEs), especially the AEs related to the locations of secondary implanted intraocular lens (IOL). There are two common locations for secondary IOL implantation in pediatric aphakic eyes: ciliary sulcus or in-the-bag implantation. However, there are currently no large, prospective studies comparing complication rates and visual prognosis of in-the-bag versus ciliarysulcus secondary IOL implantation in pediatric patients. Whether or how much secondary in-the-bag IOL implantation benefits the pediatric patients more than sulcus implantation and deserves to be performed routinely by surgeons remains to be elucidated. Here, we describe the protocol of a randomized controlled trial (RCT) designed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of two approaches of IOL implantation in pediatric aphakia. Methods The study is a multicenter, single-blinded RCT with 10 years of follow-up. Overall, a minimum of 286 eyes (approximately 228 participants assuming 75% have two study eyes) will be recruited. This study will be carried out in four eye clinics across China. Consecutive eligible patients are randomized to undergo either secondary in-the-bag IOL implantation or secondary sulcus IOL implantation. Participants with two eyes eligible will receive the same treatment. The primary outcomes are IOL decentration and the incidence of glaucoma-related AEs. The secondary outcomes include the incidence of other AEs, IOL tilt, visual acuity, and ocular refractive power. Analysis of the primary and secondary outcomes is to be based on the intention-to-treat and per-protocol analysis. Statistical analyses will include the χ 2 test or Fisher’s exact test for the primary outcome, mixed model and generalized estimated equation (GEE) model for the secondary outcome, Kaplan–Meier survival curves for the cumulative probability of glaucoma-related AEs over time in each group. Discussion To the best of our knowledge, this study is the first RCT to evaluate the safety and efficacy of secondary IOL implantation in pediatric aphakia. The results will provide high-quality evidence for the clinical guidelines for the treatment of pediatric aphakia. Trial registration ClinicalTrials.gov NCT05136950. Registered on 1 November 2021.

In order to address the problems of insufficient load capacity and rotor vibration, an active fluid-film bearing lubricated with magnetorheological fluid (MRF) is proposed. First, the geometry of the MRF fluid-film bearing is designed and its intelligent lubrication mechanism is analyzed to clarify its advantages. In addition, mathematical model of MRF fluid-film bearing-rotor system is derived, and FEM model is utilized to obtain stiffness and damping coefficients to supplement mathematical model. Moreover, an improved gray wolf optimization (IGWO) algorithm is developed to tune the PID controller parameters. The validity of the proposed method is verified by numerical simulation. Furthermore, the simulation results show that with the increasing of current magnitude, the orbits of shaft center decrease. Under the presence of magnetic fields, the shaft center orbits of the MRF bearing can converge to a point, and therefore this bearing has ability to suppress rotor vibration. Finally, IGWO-PID controller has better response characteristics than GWO, PSO, and GA algorithms, and hence the IGWO algorithm can find the more appropriate PID controller parameters, that the validity of the improved algorithm is further proved. Therefore, the active bearing and its research findings provide new reference for MRF vibration control in the field of journal bearing lubrication.

For high-performance metal matrix composites, maintaining the uniform distribution of the small-sized reinforcement phase in the matrix is the key to fully exploiting the advantages of the reinforcement phase, but it is also a technical difficulty. In this work, a new type of reinforcement phase—SiO2 aerogel particles, was selected to be added into the Cu matrix. Utilizing the characteristics of easy dispersion of the nanoporous structure in its original state and then densification under a high temperature load, its uniform distribution in the Cu matrix can be achieved by a simple powder metallurgy method. The composites have excellent electrical conductivity and high strength, which is mainly attributed to the unique distribution of silica aerogel particles: larger particles are distributed on the grain boundary, and smaller particles are distributed in the grain, which can greatly refine the grain. Quantifying the contribution of various strengthening mechanisms to yield strength increases, the results revealed that the grain refinement strengthening mechanism plays a leading role. Moreover, this work provides a new strategy for preparing high-performance copper matrix composites.

A belt conveyor system is one of the essential equipment in coal mining. The damages to conveyor belts are hazardous because they would affect the stable operation of a belt conveyor system whilst impairing the coal mining efficiency. To address these problems, a novel conveyor belt damage detection method based on CenterNet is proposed in this paper. The fusion of feature-wise and response-wise knowledge distillation is proposed, which balances the performance and size of the proposed deep neural network. The Fused Channel-Spatial Attention is proposed to compress the latent feature maps efficiently, and the Kullback-Leibler divergence is introduced to minimize the distribution distance between student and teacher networks. Experimental results show that the proposed lightweight object detection model reaches 92.53% mAP and 65.8 FPS. The proposed belt damage detection system can detect conveyor belt damages efficiently and accurately, which indicates its high potential to deploy on end devices.

Abstract Large foreign object transporting by coal mine conveyor belt may lead to production safety hazards. To reduce safety accidents during coal mining, a large foreign object detection method based on machine vision is proposed in this paper. An adaptive weighted multi-scale Retinex (MSR) image enhancement algorithm is proposed to improve the captured image quality of the belt conveyor line. An improved multi-scale template matching algorithm is designed by combining the frame difference and area methods to screen and identify large foreign objects mixed in coals. The multi-layer perceptron (MLP) network optimized by the Gray Wolf algorithm is introduced to identify the large objects. Experimental results show that the identification accuracy reaches 98.8% for the large foreign objects. Furthermore, industrial field test is carried out in the Gaoyang coal mine, and the filed test results demonstrate that the identification accuracy of the proposed method is more than 95%. Hence, the proposed method meets the industrial detection requirements and can be used in practices for detecting the large foreign objects.

Abstract Objective To evaluate the impact on surgical efficiency and labor time cost of preloaded intraocular lens (IOL) implantation system compared with manual IOL implantation system in age-related cataract surgery in China. Methods This study was an observational, multicenter, prospective time-motion analysis. IOL preparation time, operation time, cleaning time, number and cost of cataract surgeries in eight participating hospitals were collected. The linear mixed model was used to explore factors associated with the difference in operation time between the preloaded IOL implantation system and the manual IOL implantation system. A time-motion model was constructed to convert the operation time cost saved by using preloaded IOL into economic benefits from hospital and social perspective, respectively. Results There were 2,591 cases included in the study (preloaded IOL: 1,591 cases; manual IOL: 1,000 cases). Cu-1.3 wt%Ni-1.0 wt%Co-0.9 wt%Si-0.1 wt%Mg alloy strip with 10 mm in thickness produced by heating-cooling combined mold (HCCM) horizontal continuous casting was cold rolled. Microstructure evolution and mechanical properties of the cold-rolled alloy strips with different reduction were studied, and the deformation mechanism was clarified. The results showed that the continuous casting strips had axial columnar grain with main orientations and straight small angle grain boundaries, the elongation after fracture was up to 25.0%, which can be directly processed by large deformation cold rolling, and the maximum cumulative cold deformation was up to 99%.When the reduction was 40% and 60%, the dislocation bands crossed each other and shear bands formed, and the alternating distribution of soft/hard oriented grains were conducive to improve the deformation coordination ability of micro-region under high strain. When the deformation exceeded 80%, deformation twins formed and the twins had strong interaction with the shear band and grain boundaries, resulting in strong shear and rotation of the local grains. The tensile strength and hardness increased from 464 MPa to 137HV of the as-cast strip to 629 MPa and 208HV with reduction 90%, respectively, while the elongation decreased from 25.0% to 4.1%. These results can lay a foundation for the development of compact method for producing high performance Cu–Ni–Co–Si alloy strips.

Many skin diseases, such as atopic dermatitis (AD), are featured with the dysbiosis of skin microbiota. The clinically recommended options for AD treatments suffer from poor outcomes and high side-effects, leading to severe quality-of-life impairment. To deal with this long-term challenge, we develop a living bacterial formulation (Hy@Rm) that integrates skin symbiotic bacteria of Roseomonas mucosa with poly(vinyl pyrrolidone), poly(vinyl alcohol) and sodium alginate into a skin dressing by virtue of the Ca2+-mediated cross-linking and the freezing-thawing (F-T) cycle method. Hy@Rm dressing creates a favorable condition to not only serve as extrinsic culture harbors but also as nutrient suppliers to support R. mucosa survival in the harsh microenvironment of AD sites to defeat S. aureus, which predominantly colonizes AD skins as an indigenous pathogen, mainly through the secretion of sphingolipids metabolites by R. mucosa like a therapeutics bio-factory. Meanwhile, this elaborately designed skin dressing could accelerate wound healing, normalize aberrant skin characters, recover skin barrier functions, alleviate AD-associated immune/inflammation responses, functioning like a combinational therapy. This study offers a promising means for the topical bacteria transplant to realize effective microbe biotherapy toward the skin diseases feature with microbe milieu disorders, including but not limited to AD disease.

Summary: The multi-scale modeling of lithium-ion battery (LIB) is difficult and necessary due to its complexity. However, it is difficult to capture the aging behavior of batteries, and the coupling mechanism between multiple scales is still incomplete. In this paper, a simplified electrochemical model (SEM) and a kinetic Monte Carlo (KMC)-based solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) film growth model are used to study the multi-scale characteristics of LIBs. The single-particle SEM (SP-SEM) is described for macro scale, and a simple and self-consistent multi-particle SEM (MP-SEM) is developed. Then, the KMC-based SEI model is established for micro-scale molecular evolution. And, the two models are coupled to construct the full-cycle multi-scale model. After modeling, validation is performed by using a commercial 18650-type LIB. Finally, the effect of parameters on the SEI model is studied, including qualitative trend analysis and quantitative sensitivity analysis. The growth of SEI film with different particle sizes is studied by MP-SEM coupling simulation.

The use of environmentally friendly corrosion inhibitors (CIs) is an effective way to overcome the environmental problems caused by existing CIs that contain nitrogen or phosphorus components. Plant extracts, as a type of environmentally friendly CI, have attracted considerable attention. In this work, the corrosion inhibition properties of spinach extract (AESPE) on Q235 steel were studied in a hydrochloric acid medium. First, AESPE was extracted from spinach by an ethanol-acetone reflux method and its main structural and stability parameters in hydrochloric acid medium were determined by infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and ultraviolet spectroscopy (UV–vis). Second, the corrosion inhibition properties of AESPE on Q235 steel in a 0.5 M hydrochloric acid solution were studied by weight loss (WTL), dynamic potential polarisation (PDP), linear polarisation (LPR), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and quantum chemical calculation methods. The results showed that AESPE could significantly slow the corrosion rate (Vcorr) of Q235 steel in 0.5 M hydrochloric acid medium, which was via a mixed corrosion inhibition mechanism at the cathode and anode. As the AESPE concentration increased, the cathode and anode currents decreased and the active corrosion sites were blocked; thus, the Vcorr decreased and the corrosion inhibition efficiency (E (%)) increased. Under the conditions of 303 K and 300 mg⋅L–1 AESPE, the E (%) of AESPE for Q235 steel was>90%. As the system temperature increased, the E% of AESPE for Q235 steel decreased but the extent of this decrease was small. This work shows that AESPE is an environmentally friendly CI with a good corrosion inhibition effect.

It is significant to design, synthesise and optimise flavonoid derivatives with better anti-inflammatory activity. This study aims to design and synthesise a series of novel 2-phenyl-4H-chromen-4-one compounds with anti-inflammatory; among them, compound 8 was discovered as the best one. And then, the effects of compound 8 on the TLR4/MAPK signalling pathway was carried out in vivo, the results indicated that compound 8 could downregulate NO, IL-6, and TNF-α expression, and suppress LPS-induced inflammation by inhibiting the TLR4/MAPK pathways. Furthermore, compound 8 reduced inflammation by a mouse model of LPS-induced inflammatory disease in vivo. The results suggest that compound 8 has the potential against inflammation through regulating TLR4/MAPK pathway and can be assessed further for drug development.

Nanozyme has been one of the most promising artificial enzymes for substitute natural enzymes. The main research focus in this field is developing the nanozymes with high activity, sensitivity and stability. In this paper, prussian blue/polyacrylonitrile (PB/PAN) composite nanofiber was prepared by electrospinning which was calcined to obtain iron oxide/carbon (FeOx/C) composite nanozyme. The structure of the prepared FeOx/C nanozyme was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffractometer (XRD), Energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS) and X-ray photoelectron spectra (XPS). The results revealed that FeOx/C nanozyme containing the catalytic active species of γ-Fe2O3 possessed peroxidase-like catalytic activity. The catalytic activity of prepared nanozyme which was influenced by different content of PB and different calcination temperatures was investigated. The optimal PB content in the PB/PAN nanofiber and calcination temperature were 41.5% and 600 °C in this research. The prepared FeOx/C nanozyme possessed highly sensitive detection of ascorbic acid. This research provides a new approach to fabricate iron oxide/carbon composite nanozyme with highly catalytic activity and sensitive for colorimetric sensor.

The development of bio-based flame retardants has received increasing attention. In this study, fully bio-based chitosan/sodium alginate (CS/SA) coating was applied by layer-by-layer (LbL) assembly on Xuan paper to improve its flame retardancy. The LOI value of Xuan paper reached 33.3% after 20 BLs CS/SA coating. Its char length was reduced to 8.8 cm with no after-flame and after-glow. These results showed that the flame retardancy of Xuan paper was greatly improved by LbL assembly CS/SA coating. Thermogravimetry results revealed that CS/SA coating on Xuan paper slowed down the thermal degradation process and promoted the char formation both under nitrogen and air atmosphere. The stable char layer formation by CS/SA coating covered on the Xuan paper inhibited the heat transfer and diffusion of combustible gases, showing obvious condensed phase flame retardant action. Scanning electron microscopy confirmed that CS/SA coating on paper fiber promoted the char formation to form the stable covering layer. Furthermore, the CS/SA coating formed non-flammable gases to enhance the flame retardancy of Xuan paper, showing a certain gas phase flame retardant action. This research provides a new approach for fire-resistant Xuan paper by using fully bio-based compounds.

In this study, intumescent flame retardant coating of polyethylenimine/phytic acid (PEI/PA) with gradient structure was constructed on cotton fabric through a facile layer-by-layer (LBL) assembly method. The LOI value of coated cotton fabric reached over 40%, indicating excellent flame retardancy. Reasonable controlling the LBL assembly process of PEI/PA coating brought less influence to the physical properties of cotton fabrics. And the coated cotton fabric revealed good flame retardant washing durability. Thermogravimetric analysis results of coated cotton fabrics showed that PEI/PA flame retardant coating changed the thermal decomposition process and promoted char formation revealing the obviously condensed phase flame retardant action. SEM images of char residues revealed that PEI/PA flame retardant coating promoted to form the intumescent flame retardant (IFR) char layer showing obvious IFR action. This research provides novel strategy for the development of high-efficiency flame retardant cotton fabric with good durability and physical properties using a simple LBL assembly method.

With the population increasing, fish communities, as important components in the river system, were inescapably impacted by human activities. To investigate these impacts, we characterized the fish community's composition by environmental DNA metabarcoding in the urban and suburban sites along Xiang River in central China. The results showed that 32 species were identified, and most species were from Cypriniform. The analysis indicated no significant differences in fish communities among the three urban areas. However, significant differences were observed between the bank solidified and non-solidified areas, which indicated that the channelization significantly influenced the biodiversity and abundances. An alien species, Clarias gariepinus, was discovered in all examined sites, and it was negatively associated with ten native species. Furthermore, human populations and acidification were also negatively related to diversity. Our findings clearly showed that the consequences of anthropogenic activities shaped ichthyofauna and caused biodiversity loss in the urban river.

Background: Phenotype similarity calculation should be used to help improve drug repurposing. In this study, based on the MeSH terms describing the phenotypes deposited in OMIM, we proposed a method, namely, PheSom (Phenotype Similarity On MeSH), to measure the similarity between phenotypes. PheSom counted the number of overlapping MeSH terms between two phenotypes and then took the weight of every MeSH term within each phenotype into account according to the term frequency-inverse document frequency (FIDC). Phenotype-related genes were used for the evaluation of our method.Results: A 7,739 × 7,739 similarity score matrix was finally obtained and the number of phenotype pairs was dramatically decreased with the increase of similarity score. Besides, the overlapping rates of phenotype-related genes were remarkably increased with the increase of similarity score between phenotypes, which supports the reliability of our method.Conclusion: We anticipate our method can be applied to identifying novel therapeutic methods for complex diseases.

PurposeTo assess the effect of pterygium on corneal densitometry (CD) values.MethodsOne hundred and nine patients (155 eyes) with primary pterygium were divided into a severe pterygium group (79 eyes) and a mild-to-moderate pterygium group (76 eyes) according to pterygium severity. Among them, 63 patients had monocular pterygium; and 25 patients (38 eyes) underwent pterygium excision combined with conjunctival autograft follow-up. A Pentacam anterior segment analyzer was used to obtain the CD values and corneal morphological parameters, including central corneal thickness (CCT), flat-axis keratometry (K1), steep-axis keratometry (K2), corneal astigmatism, irregular astigmatism, and spherical aberration. CD was subdivided into four concentric radial regions based on corneal diameter and three layers according to depth.ResultsCD values at 0–12 mm of the anterior 120 μm layer, 0–10 mm of the center layer and full thickness, and 2–6 mm of the posterior 60 μm layer were significantly higher in eyes affected by pterygium than in the contralateral unaffected eyes (all P < 0.05). CD values were significantly higher in the severe pterygium group than in the mild to moderate pterygium group (all P < 0.05). Corneal astigmatism, irregular astigmatism, K1, K2, CCT, and spherical aberration correlated with CD values in eyes with pterygium (all P < 0.05). CD values at 6–10, 0–12 mm in the anterior 120 μm layer and full thickness, 10–12 and 0–12 mm in the center layer were significantly decreased 1 month after pterygium surgery compared with those before surgery (all P < 0.05).ConclusionPatients with pterygium had increased CD values, particularly in the anterior and central layers. CD values were correlated with pterygium severity grading and corneal parameters. Pterygium surgery partially reduced the CD values.

Cadmium (Cd) is one of the dominant metal pollutants present in the aquatic environment that affects ion homeostasis, oxidative stress (OS) and immune responses of aquatic organisms. Given the physicochemical similarities between Cd2+ and calcium (Ca2+) ions, their antagonism may facilitate the mitigation of Cd-induced toxicity. To better understand the role of Ca in protecting against Cd-induced toxicity in teleosts, juvenile grass carp were exposed to Cd (measured concentration 3 μg/L) and a gradient of Ca concentrations (measured concentration 1.5 mg/L, 2.5 mg/L, 3.0 mg/L, and 3.5 mg/L in the control (CTL) group, low calcium (LCA) group, medium calcium (MCA) group, and high calcium (HCA) group, respectively) for 30 days. Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) data analyses showed that simultaneous exposure to Ca impaired the accumulation of Cd in all tested tissues. Besides, Ca addition maintained the plasma ion (Na+, K+, Cl-) homeostasis, alleviated Cd-induced oxidative stress (OS), and regulated the activities and transcriptional levels of ATPase. Furthermore, transcriptional heatmap analysis demonstrated that several indicator genes for OS and calcium signaling pathway were found to be significantly modulated by Ca addition. This work delineates a protective effect of Ca against Cd-induced toxicity in grass carp, providing new insight into the possible solutions to Cd pollution issues in aquaculture industry.

Abstract Background Cardiac fibrosis is characterized by excessive extracellular matrix deposition that contributes to compromised cardiac function and potentially heart failure. Disruptor of telomeric silencing 1-like (Dot1L) is the catalytic enzyme required for histone H3K79 methylation which has been demonstrated to play a role in transcriptional activation. However, the functions of Dot1L in the process of cardiac fibrosis still remain unknown. Results In the present study, we found that endogenous Dot1L is upregulated in cardiac fibroblasts (CFs) treated with angiotensin II (Ang II) or transforming growth factor (TGF)-β1, along with elevated extracellular matrix (ECM) such as fibronectin, collagen I and III. Silencing or inhibiting Dot1L mitigated Ang II-induced myofibroblast generation and fibrogenesis. We identified the transcription factor-forkhead box O (FoxO) 3a as a novel substrate of Dot1L, the transcriptional activating mark H3K79me3 level on the promoter of FoxO3a was increase in activated-CFs, and inhibition of Dot1L markedly decreased FoxO3a transcription accompanied by a significant decrease in the expression of fibrogenic gene. Knockdown of FoxO3a could alleviate ECM deposition induced by Ang II, on the contrary, overexpression FoxO3a resulting in CFs activation. Consistently, in vivo Dot1L ablation rescued myocardial ischemia-induced cardiac fibrosis and improved cardiac function. Conclusions Our findings conclude that upregulation of Dot1L results in activation of the cardiac fibroblasts to promote profibrotic gene, eventually causes cardiac fibrosis. Pharmacological targeting for Dot1L might represent a promising therapeutic approach for the treatment of human cardiac fibrosis and other fibrotic diseases.

To explore suitable synthesis parameters of efficient graft copolymerization on wool, the disulfide bonds in wool chains were reduced to sulfhydryl groups by the treatment of thioglycolic acid to wool, and then wool-g-poly(glycidyl methacrylate) was prepared by graft copolymerization of wool with glycidyl methacrylate by building a redox system between sulfhydryl groups and ammonium persulfate. The wool-g-poly(glycidyl methacrylate) was characterized by the analyses of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, thermogravimetric and x-ray diffraction. Influences of molar concentrations of monomer and initiator as well as reaction temperature on grafting ratios were investigated. The experimental results showed that the sulfhydryl groups/ammonium persulfate redox system built could effectively initiate graft polymerization of lipophilic glycidyl methacrylate on the wool surface in an aqueous medium. The suitable process parameters of graft copolymerization were: 0.6 mmol/L molar concentration of glycidyl methacrylate, 3.0 mmol/L molar concentration of ammonium persulfate, and reaction temperature of 50 ℃. At the suitable parameters, the grafting ratio of wool-g-poly(glycidyl methacrylate) showed a maximum value of 195.8 %, indicating an efficient graft copolymerization was achieved. The copolymerization could reduce the degree of crystallinity of wool. The wool-g-poly(glycidyl methacrylate) had higher thermal stability than raw wool at a temperature of below 406 ℃ by performing the thermogravimetric analysis. Based on the results, we successfully built new sulfhydryl groups on the wool/ammonium persulfate redox system, prepared the wool-g-poly(glycidyl methacrylate), and this work will lay an important foundation for the application of wool-g-poly(glycidyl methacrylate) in the textile field.

In this work, in-situ TiB2/AlSi7Mg composites were successfully fabricated using TiB2 decorated AlSi7Mg alloy powder synthesized via salt-metal reaction and gas atomization, followed by powder metallurgy and hot extrusion. Microstructure and mechanical properties were investigated by optical microscopy (OM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM) and tensile tests. The results show that the formation of fine grains and homogeneous subspherical silicon particles in as-extruded composites with high ductility (elongation of 21.7%) is achieved by perfect metallurgical bonding during severe plastic deformation. The covering effect of TiB2 aggregates around silicon particles as particle shells has hindered the dissolution of silicon in the composite. After T6 treatment, the ultimate strength, yield strength and elongation at fracture of the 2 wt% TiB2/AlSi7Mg composite reach up to 344 MPa, 298 MPa and 8.6%, respectively. The excellent mechanical properties are mainly attributed to grain refinement, silicon optimization and precipitation strengthening. This study provides a good solution for improving the strength and toughness of Al–Si alloy.

Abstract Acellular dermal matrix (ADM) is derived from natural skin by removing the entire epidermis and the cell components of dermis, but retaining the collagen components of dermis. It can be used as a therapeutic alternative to “gold standard” tissue grafts and has been widely used in many surgical fields, since it possesses affluent predominant physicochemical and biological characteristics that have attracted the attention of researchers. Herein, the basic science of biologics with a focus on ADMs is comprehensively described, the modification principles and technologies of ADM are discussed, and the characteristics of ADMs and the evidence behind their use for a variety of reconstructive and prosthetic purposes are reviewed. In addition, the advances in biomedical applications of ADMs and the common indications for use in reconstructing and repairing wounds, maintaining homeostasis in the filling of a tissue defect, guiding tissue regeneration, and delivering cells via grafts in surgical applications are thoroughly analyzed. This review expectedly promotes and inspires the emergence of natural raw collagen-based materials as an advanced substitute biomaterial to autologous tissue transplantation. Graphical Abstract

Abstract Nowadays, diverse leather usage conditions and increasing demands from consumers challenge the leather industry. Traditional leather manufacturing is facing long-term challenges, including low-value threshold, confined application fields, and environmental issues. Leather inherits all the biomimetic properties of natural skin such as flexibility, sanitation, cold resistance, biocompatibility, biodegradability, and other cross-domain functions, achieving unremitting attention in multi-functional bio-based materials. Series of researches have been devoted to creating and developing leather-based flexible multi-functional bio-materials, including antibacterial leather, conductive leather, flame-retardant leather, self-cleaning leather, aromatic leather, and electromagnetic shielding leather. In this review, we provide a comprehensive overview of the commonly used leather-based functional materials. Furthermore, the possible challenges for the development of functional leathers are proposed, and expected development directions of leather-based functional materials are discussed. This review may promote and inspire the emerging preparation and applications of leather for flexible functional bio-based materials. Graphical Abstract

Abstract Background Congenital ectopia lentis (EL) refers to the congenital dysplasia or weakness of the lens suspensory ligament, resulting in an abnormal position of the crystalline lens, which can appear as isolated EL or as an ocular manifestation of a syndrome, such as the Marfan syndrome. The fibrillin‐1 protein encoded by the FBN1 gene is an essential component of the lens zonules. Mutations in FBN1 are the leading causes of congenital EL and Marfan syndrome. Owing to the complexity and individual heterogeneity of FBN1 gene mutations, the correlation between FBN1 mutation characteristics and various clinical phenotypes remains unclear. Methods This study describes the clinical characteristics and identifies possible causative genes in eight families with Marfan syndrome or isolated EL using Sanger and whole‐exome sequencing. Results Eight FBN1 mutations were identified in these families, of which three (c.5065G > C, c.1600 T > A, and c.2210G > C) are reported for the first time. Based on in silico analyses, we hypothesized that these mutations may be pathogenic by affecting the fibrillin‐1 protein structure and function. Conclusion These findings expand the number of known mutations involved in EL and provide a reference for the research on their genotype and phenotype associations.

Abstract Solid‐state lithium batteries (SSLBs) have been broadly accepted as a promising candidate for the next generation lithium‐ion batteries (LIBs) with high energy density, long duration, and high safety. The intrinsic non‐flammable nature and electrochemical/thermal/mechanical stability of solid electrolytes are expected to fundamentally solve the safety problems of conventional LIBs. However, thermal degradation and thermal runaway could also happen in SSLBs. For example, the large interfacial resistance between solid electrolytes and electrodes could aggravate the joule heat generation; the anisotropic thermal diffusion could trigger the uneven temperature distribution and formation of hotspots further leading to lithium dendrite growth. Considerable research efforts have been devoted to exploring solid electrolytes with outstanding performance and harmonizing interfacial incompatibility in the past decades. There have been fewer comprehensive reports investigating the thermal reaction process, thermal degradation, and thermal runaway of SSLBs. This review seeks to highlight advanced thermal‐related analysis techniques for SSLBs, by focusing particularly on multiscale and multidimensional thermal‐related characterization, thermal monitoring techniques such as sensors, thermal experimental techniques imitating the abuse operating condition, and thermal‐related advanced simulations. Insightful perspectives are proposed to bridge fundamental studies to technological relevance for better understanding and performance optimization of SSLBs.
