Objective: To identify predicting factors for self-rated health and use of health services among undergraduate bisexual women in the Maritime Provinces, and improve knowledge on the health needs of this population. Participants: A sample of 357 undergraduate bisexual women who participated in the Maritime Undergraduate Student Sexual Health Services Survey (N = 10, 232) between September and November 2012. Methods: Guided by the Prince Edward Island Conceptual Model for Nursing, a secondary analysis of cross-sectional data was conducted using descriptive statistics and simple/multiple logistic regression models. Results: Logistic regression models revealed that self-rated health was significantly predicted by perceived social support (OR = 1.04), while health service use was significantly predicted by previous experience of forced sex (OR = 0.26). Conclusions: It is hopeful that these findings will support the development of inclusive health strategies that target bisexual women's psychosocial health needs on Maritime university campuses.

There exists a lack of literature surrounding how postpartum individuals define feeling 'ready' to resume sexual activities after childbirth. Many factors may influence feelings of desire or readiness for sexual activities, such as breastfeeding. Therefore, it is important to understand why and how postpartum individuals understand and make meaning of their experiences surrounding postpartum sexual activities, as well as how those experiences are influenced or negotiated through relations of power. This study was guided by feminist poststructuralism and discourse analysis. Eleven participants who were between 1 and 6 months postpartum and living in Nova Scotia, Canada, were interviewed using semi-structured interviews. Participants challenged certain discourses surrounding sexual activities postpartum, including the social discourse that positions sexual activities as a requirement within romantic relationships and the discourse that positions health care providers as the authority on postpartum sexual health. 'Feeling ready' centered on four main issues: (1) navigating physical recovery; (2) personal knowing and emotional readiness; (3) the 6-week check; and (4) redefining intimacy. This article describes one branch of the findings within the overall study. Choosing to resume sexual activities postpartum, or feeling ready to do so, is individual, fluid, and complex. Introduction: School-based immunization programs offer an accessible route to routine vaccines for students. During the COVID-19 pandemic, school closures to comply with public health measures had a drastic effect on school-based immunization program delivery and associated vaccine uptake. We sought to integrate findings from a mixed methods study to co-develop evidence-based and theory-informed recommendations with a diverse group of stakeholders (i.e., decision makers, healthcare providers, school staff, parents and adolescent students) to address barriers to new and existing school-based immunization programs. Methods: Findings from a mixed methods study were integrated using a joint display and narrative summary. These findings were mapped through the Behaviour Change Wheel, a series of tools designed to facilitate the development of behaviour change interventions. Draft recommendations were provided to previous mixed methods study participants who consented to participating in future phases of the research study (n = 26). Feedback was captured using a Likert-scale survey of acceptability, practicality, effectiveness, affordability, safety and equity (APEASE) criteria, with feedback and additional insights captured using open-ended textboxes. Data was used to revise and finalize recommendations. Results: Applying the Behaviour Change Wheel, we drafted 26 evidence-based, theory-informed recommendations to address barriers to school-based immunization programs. Participants (n = 16) provided feedback, with half of the recommendations scoring 80% or higher across all six APEASE criteria. The remaining 13 recommendations received a moderate score across one or more criteria. Stakeholders identified a high level of interest in expanding the use of e-consent forms, expanding programming to offer a meningitis B vaccine, and recommendations to ease student anxiety. Conclusion: We co-developed a range of recommendations to improve school-based immunization programs with stakeholders using data generated from a mixed methods study. Implementation of any single or combination of recommendations will need to be tailored to local clinic procedures, school system and health system resources. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Vaccination coverage needs to reach more than 80% to resolve the COVID-19 pandemic, but vaccine hesitancy, fuelled by misinformation, may jeopardize this goal. Unvaccinated older adults are not only at risk of COVID-19 complications but may also be misled by false information. Prebunking, based on inoculation theory, involves 'forewarning people [of] and refuting information that challenges their existing belief or behavior'. To assess the effectiveness of inoculation communication strategies in countering disinformation about COVID-19 vaccines among Canadians aged 50 years and older, as measured by their COVID-19 vaccine intentions. Applying an online experiment with a mixed pre–post design and a sample size of 2500 participants, we conducted a national randomized survey among English and French-speaking Canadians aged 50 years and older in March 2021. Responses to two different disinformation messages were evaluated. Our primary outcome was the intention to receive a COVID-19 vaccine, with attitudes toward COVID-19 vaccine a secondary outcome. The McNemar test and multivariate logistic regression analysis on paired data were conducted when the outcome was dichotomized. Wilcoxon sign rank test and Kruskal–Wallis were used to test difference scores between pre- and post-tests by condition. Group comparisons between those who received only disinformation and those who received the inoculation message show that prebunking messages may safeguard intention to get vaccinated and have a protective effect against disinformation. Prebunking messages should be considered as one strategy for public health communication to combat misinformation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
