Abstract. Background:. Breast cancer is ranked among the most prevalent malignancies in the Chinese female population. However, comprehensive reports detailing the latest epidemiological data and attributable disease burden have not been extensively documented. Methods:. In 2018, high-quality cancer surveillance data were recorded in 700 population-based cancer registries in China. We extracted data on female breast cancers (International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision [ICD-10]: C50) and estimated the incidence and mortality in 2022 according to the baseline data and corresponding trends from 2010 to 2018. Pathological types were classified according to the ICD for Oncology, 3rd Edition codes. Disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) were calculated as the sum of the years of life lost (YLLs) and years lived with disability (YLDs). Results:. In 2022, approximately 357,200 new female breast cancer cases and 75,000 deaths occurred in China, accounting for 15.59% and 7.94% of total new cancer cases and deaths, respectively. The age-standardized incidence rate (ASIR) was 33.04 per 100,000. When analyzed by pathological type, the ASIRs for papillary neoplasms, invasive breast carcinoma, rare and salivary gland-type tumors, and other types were 1.13, 29.79, 0.24, and 1.88 per 100,000, respectively. The age-standardized mortality rate (ASMR) was 6.10 per 100,000. A total of 2,628,000 DALYs were found to be attributable to female breast cancer in China, comprising 2,278,300 YLLs and 349,700 YLDs. The ASIR, ASMR, and age-standardized rate (ASR) for DALYs in urban areas were consistently higher than those in rural areas. We observed a four-fold increase in the ASIR and ASR for DALYs and an eight-fold increase in the ASMR among females over 55 years compared with those aged under 55 years. Conclusion:. These data provide invaluable insights into the latest epidemiology of female breast cancer in China and highlight the urgency for disease prevention and control strategy formulation.

Background and objective: Previous studies have reported a strong genetic contribution to kidney stone risk. This study aims to identify genetic associations of kidney stone disease within a large-scale electronic health record system. Methods: We performed genome-wide association studies (GWASs) for nephrolithiasis from genotyped samples of 5571 cases and 83 692 controls. This analysis included a primary GWAS focused on nephrolithiasis and subsequent subgroup GWASs stratified by stone composition types. For significant risk variants, we performed association analyses with stone composition and first-time 24-h urine parameters. To assess disease severity, we investigated the associations with age at first stone diagnosis, age at first stone-related procedure, and time between first and second stone-related procedures. Key findings and limitations: The primary GWAS analysis identified ten significant loci, all located on chromosome 16 within coding regions of the UMOD gene. The strongest signal was rs28544423 (odds ratio 1.17, 95% confidence interval 1.11–1.23, p = 2.7 × 10–9). In subgroup GWASs stratified by six kidney stone composition subtypes, 19 significant loci were identified including two loci in coding regions (brushite; NXPH1, rs79970906 and rs4725104). The bromodomain and extraterminal domain (BET) family proteins serve as primary readers of acetylated lysine residues and play crucial roles in cell proliferation and differentiation. Dysregulation of BET proteins has been implicated in tumorigenesis, making them important therapeutic targets. BET-bromodomain (BD) inhibitors and BET-targeting degraders have been developed to inhibit BET proteins. In this study, we found that the BET inhibitor MS645 exhibited superior antiproliferative activity than BET degraders including ARV771, AT1, MZ1 and dBET1 in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) cells. Treatment with MS645 led to the dissociation of BETs, MED1 and RNA polymerase II from the E2F1–3 promoter, resulting in the suppression of E2F1–3 transcription and subsequent inhibition of cell growth in TNBC. In contrast, while ARV771 displaced BET proteins from chromatin, it did not significantly alter E2F1–3 expression. Mechanistically, ARV771 induced BRD4 depletion at protein level, which markedly increased EGR1 expression. This elevation of EGR1 subsequently recruited septin 2 and septin 9 to E2F1–3 promoters, enhancing E2F1–3 transcription and promoting cell proliferation rate in vitro and in vivo. Our findings provide valuable insights into differential mechanisms of BET inhibition and highlight potential of developing BET-targeting molecules as therapeutic strategies for TNBC.

Monolayer 2D metal‐organic framework (MOF) nanosheets, characterized by abundant exposed active sites and tunable structure and function (such as altering the metal nodes or organic ligands), have emerged as a pivotal class of 2D materials, demonstrating irreplaceable applications across diverse research domains in materials and chemistry. This review provides a comprehensive survey of the latest research progress in the synthesis of monolayer 2D MOF nanosheets. Specifically, recent synthetic strategies, including top‐down and bottom‐up methods, are delved and their applications in gas separation, catalysis, sensing platforms, and energy storage are explored. Additionally, the challenges faced in the investigation of monolayer 2D MOF nanosheets are elucidated and future opportunities for these materials as a novel generation of 2D materials are outlined.

The maintenance of nuclear shape is essential for cellular homeostasis and disruptions in this process have been linked to various pathological conditions, including cancer, laminopathies, and aging. Despite the significance of nuclear shape, the precise molecular mechanisms controlling it are not fully understood. In this study, we have identified the YEATS domain-containing protein 4 (GAS41) as a previously unidentified factor involved in regulating nuclear morphology. Genetic ablation of GAS41 in colorectal cancer cells resulted in significant abnormalities in nuclear shape and inhibited cancer cell proliferation both in vitro and in vivo. Restoration experiments revealed that wild-type GAS41, but not a YEATS domain mutant devoid of histone H3 lysine 27 acetylation or crotonylation (H3K27ac/cr) binding, rescued the aberrant nuclear phenotypes in GAS41-deficient cells, highlighting the importance of GAS41’s binding to H3K27ac/cr in nuclear shape regulation. Further experiments showed that GAS41 interacts with H3K27ac/cr to regulate the expression of key nuclear shape regulators, including LMNB1, LMNB2, SYNE4, and LEMD2. Mechanistically, GAS41 recruited BRD2 and the Mediator complex to gene loci of these regulators, promoting their transcriptional activation. Disruption of GAS41-H3K27ac/cr binding caused BRD2, MED14 and MED23 to dissociate from gene loci, leading to nuclear shape abnormalities. Overall, our findings demonstrate that GAS41 collaborates with BRD2 and the Mediator complex to control the expression of crucial nuclear shape regulators.

Abstract Visible light‐based human–machine interactive media is capable of transmitting electrical readouts to machines and providing intuitive feedback to users simultaneously. Currently, many inorganic mechanoluminescent (ML) materials‐based interactive media, typically ZnS‐loaded phosphors (ZLPs), have been successfully demonstrated. However, organic ML materials‐based solutions were rarely exploited despite their huge merits of strong structural modification, abundant luminescence property, low cost, easy preparation, and so on. Here, we propose a novel interactive tactile display (ITD) based on organic ML materials (Cz‐A6‐dye) and triboelectric nanogenerator, with ultra‐brightness (130% enhancement) and ultra‐low threshold pressure (57% reduction) as compared to ZLPs. The proposed ITD achieves the conversion of weak mechanical stimuli into visible light and electrical signals simultaneously, without extra power supplies. Furthermore, the relationship between the luminous performance of organic ML materials and mechanical force is quantified, benefiting from the uniform ML layer prepared. Enabled by convolutional neural networks, the high‐accuracy recognition (97.1%) for handwriting and identity of users is realized at the same time. Thus, the ITD has great potential for intelligent wearable electronics and classified military applications.

For ceramic breeder pebbles used in fusion energy, the tritium release data under fusion neutron irradiation is very important and valuable. In this study, a tritium release system for ceramic tritium breeder is introduced, which is matched with the High Intensity DT Fusion Neutron Generator (HINEG-CAS). The HINEG-CAS has been built and operated by the Institute of Nuclear Energy Safety Technology, Hefei Institutes of Physical Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences (INEST, HFIPS, CAS), achieving a fusion neutron yield of 1012n/s since 2016. Innovative design and fabrication of sample container enables minimization of the unexpected tritium loss. The dedicated tritium release system can monitor the tritium release behavior over time for both tritiated water and tritium gas, using the bubblers-based tritium trapping system with automatic replacement technology, coupled with highly efficient catalytic oxidants and liquid scintillation counter (LSC). We have performed a tritium release experiment with the Li2TiO3 pebbles as ceramic tritium breeder, and obtained the tritium releasing data at room temperature over time and clarified the tritium chemical form in recovery. It is concluded that this newly established system can serve as a good sharing platform for evaluating prime candidate breeder materials, as well as facilitating detailed design or optimization of tritium involved systems (such as the tritium extraction system).

Abstract Regulating electron transport rate and ion concentrations in the local microenvironment of active site can overcome the slow kinetics and unfavorable thermodynamics of CO2 electroreduction. However, simultaneous optimization of both kinetics and thermodynamics is hindered by synthetic constraints and poor mechanistic understanding. Here we leverage laser-assisted manufacturing for synthesizing CuxO bipyramids with controlled tip angles and abundant nanograins, and elucidate the mechanism of the relationship between electron transport/ion concentrations and electrocatalytic performance. Potassium/OH− adsorption tests and finite element simulations corroborate the contributions from strong electric field at the sharp tip. In situ Fourier transform infrared spectrometry and differential electrochemical mass spectrometry unveil the dynamic evolution of critical *CO/*OCCOH intermediates and product profiles, complemented with theoretical calculations that elucidate the thermodynamic contributions from improved coupling at the Cu+/Cu2+ interfaces. Through modulating the electron transport and ion concentrations, we achieve high Faradaic efficiency of 81% at ~900 mA cm−2 for C2+ products via CO2RR. Similar enhancement is also observed for nitrate reduction reaction (NITRR), achieving 81.83 mg h−1 ammonia yield rate per milligram catalyst. Coupling the CO2RR and NITRR systems demonstrates the potential for valorizing flue gases and nitrate wastes, which suggests a practical approach for carbon-nitrogen cycling.

Abstract Background Exercise is postulated to be a promising non-pharmacological intervention for the improvement of neurodegenerative disease pathology. However, the mechanism of beneficial effects of exercise on the brain remains to be further explored. In this study, we investigated the effect of an exercise-induced metabolite, lactate, on the microglia phenotype and its association with learning and memory. Results Microglia were hyperactivated in the brains of AlCl3/D-gal-treated mice, which was associated with cognitive decline. Running exercise ameliorated the hyperactivation and increased the anti-inflammatory/reparative phenotype of microglia and improved cognition. Mice were injected intraperitoneally with sodium lactate (NaLA) had similar beneficial effects as that of exercise training. Exogenous NaLA addition to cultured BV2 cells promoted their transition from a pro-inflammatory to a reparative phenotype. Conclusion The elevated lactate acted as an “accelerator” of the endogenous “lactate timer” in microglia promoting this transition of microglia polarization balance through lactylation. These findings demonstrate that exercise-induced lactate accelerates the phenotypic transition of microglia, which plays a key role in reducing neuroinflammation and improving cognitive function.

In order to improve quality assurance in wafer manufacturing, there are strict process requirements. Besides the well-known residency time constraints (RTCs), a dual-arm cluster tool also requires each robot arm to execute a specific set of tasks. We call such a tool an arm task-constrained dual-arm cluster tool (ATC-DACT). To do this, one of the arms is identified as the dirty one and the other as the clean one. The dirty one can deal with raw wafers, while the clean one can deal with processed wafers. This requirement raises a new problem for scheduling a cluster tool. This paper discusses the scheduling problem of ATC-DACTs with RTCs. Due to the arm task constraints, the proven, effective swap strategy is no longer applicable to ATC-DACTs, making the scheduling problem difficult. To address this problem, we explicitly describe the robot waiting as an event and build a Petri net (PN) model. Then, we propose a hybrid task sequence (HTS) as an operation strategy by combining the swap and backward strategies. Based on the HTS, the necessary and sufficient conditions for schedulability are established; also, a linear programming model is developed. We then develop an algorithm using these results to optimally schedule the system. Industrial case studies demonstrate the application of this method.

Introduction:Crocus sativus L. has an important medicinal and economic value in traditional perennial Chinese medicine. However, due to its unique growth characteristics, during cultivation it is highly susceptible to disease. The absence of effective resistance genes restricts us to breed new resistant varieties of C. sativus.Methods: In present study, comprehensive transcriptome sequencing was introduced to explore the disease resistance of the candidate gene in healthy and corm rot-infected C. sativus.Results and discussion: Totally, 43.72 Gb of clean data was obtained from the assembly to generate 65,337 unigenes. By comparing the gene expression levels, 7,575 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were primarily screened. A majority of the DEGs were completely in charge of defense and metabolism, and 152 of them were annotated as pathogen recognition genes (PRGs) based on the PGRdb dataset. The expression of some transcription factors including NAC, MYB, and WRKY members, changed significantly based on the dataset of transcriptome sequencing. Therefore, this study provides us some valuable information for exploring candidate genes involved in the disease resistance in C. sativus.

Abstract. Background:. Primary malignant bone tumors are uncommon, and their epidemiological features are rarely reported. We aimed to study the incidence and death characteristics of bone tumors from 2000 to 2015. Methods:. Population-based cancer registries submitted registry data to National Central Cancer Registry of China (NCCRC). The data collected from 501 local cancer registries in China were assessed using NCCRC screening methods and criteria. Incidence and mortality rates of primary bone tumor were stratified by age group, gender, and area. Age-standardized incidence and mortality rates were adjusted using the Chinese standard population in 2000 and Segi's world population. The annual percentage change (APC) in rate was calculated using the Joinpoint Regression Program. Results:. Data from 368 registries met quality control criteria, of which 134 and 234 were from urban and rural areas, respectively. The data covered 309,553,499 persons. The crude incidence, age-standardized incidence, and crude mortality rates were 1.77, 1.35, and 1.31 per 100,000, respectively. Incidence and mortality rates were higher in males than those in females; they showed downward trends, with declines of 2.2% and 4.8% per year, respectively, and the rates in urban areas were lower than those in rural areas. Significant declining trends were observed in urban areas. Stable trends were seen in rural areas during 2000 to 2007, followed by downward trends. Age-specific incidence and mortality rates showed stable trends in the age group of 0 to 19 years, and downward trends in the age group elder than 19 years. Conclusions:. The incidence and mortality rates of primary malignant bone tumors in rural areas were higher compared to those in urban areas. Targeted prevention measures are required to monitor and control bone tumor incidence and improve the quality of life of affected patients. This research can provide a scientific basis for the prevention and control of bone tumors, as well as basic information for follow-up research.

In semiconductor manufacturing, multi-space process modules (PMs) are adopted in some cluster tools for wafer processing. With multi-space PMs, a PM can have multiple wafers concurrently. Also, the internal chamber in a PM should rotate to make the robot able to load/unload a wafer into/from a space in the PM. This means that the wafer staying time in PMs is affected by both the rotation operations of the internal chambers of PMs and the robot tasks. Thus, minimizing the wafer delay time is quite challenging. In this work, for cluster tools with single-arm robots and two-space PMs, efforts are made for wafer delay minimization in scheduling the tools. Specifically, a two-wafer backward strategy is presented to operate the tools in a steady state. Then, the workloads of each processing step and the robot are analyzed. Further, to find optimal schedules with the objective of minimizing the total wafer delay time, efficient algorithms are established. Finally, case studies show that the wafer delay time at some steps can be totally eliminated by the proposed method. In the meantime, in all cases, the proposed method can work well in reducing the total wafer delay time at all steps.

Abstract Background Disease stage at diagnosis and molecular subtypes are the main determinants of breast cancer treatment strategies and prognosis. We aimed at examining the disparities and factors associated with the stage at diagnosis among the molecular subtypes in breast cancer patients in China. Methods We identified patients with first primary breast cancer diagnosed between January 1, 2016, and December 31, 2017, from 23 hospitals in 12 provinces in China. We analyzed the proportion of non‐early‐stage (stages II–IV) breast cancer cases based on the family history of breast cancer, body mass index (BMI), insurance status, and molecular subtypes. Multivariable analyses were used to estimate the factors associated with non‐early‐stage diagnosis among the molecular subtypes. We further compared these estimates with that in the United States using the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database. Results A total of 9398 Chinese were identified with first primary invasive breast cancer. Of the 8767 patients with known stages, the human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)‐enriched subtype had the highest proportion of stages II–IV (76.6%) patients, followed by triple‐negative breast cancer (73.2%), luminal B (69.9%), and luminal A (62.3%). Abstract. Background:. Neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs) are rare tumors characterized by variable biology and delayed diagnosis. However, the nationwide epidemiology of NENs has never been reported in China. We aimed to estimate the incidence and survival statistics of NENs in China, in comparison to those in the United States during the same period. Methods:. Based on the data from 246 population-based cancer registries covering 272.5 million people of China, we calculated age-specific incidence on NENs in 2017 and multiplied by corresponding national population to estimate the nationwide incidence in China. The data of 22 population-based cancer registries were used to estimate the trends of NENs incidence from 2000 to 2017 through the Joinpoint regression model. We used the cohort approach to analyze the 5-year age-standardized relative survival by sex, age group, and urban-rural area between 2008 and 2013, based on data from 176 high-quality cancer registries. We used data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) 18 program to estimate the comparable incidence and survival of NENs in the United States. Results:. The overall age-standardized rate (ASR) of NENs incidence was lower in China (1.14 per 100,000) than in the United States (6.26 per 100,000). The most common primary sites were lungs, pancreas, stomach, and rectum in China. The ASRs of NENs incidence increased by 9.8% and 3.6% per year in China and the United States, respectively. The overall 5-year relative survival in China (36.2%) was lower than in the United States (63.9%). The 5-year relative survival was higher for female patients than male patients, and was higher in urban areas than in rural areas. Conclusions:. The disparities in burden of NENs persist across sex, area, age group, and site in China and the United States. These findings may provide a scientific basis on prevention and control of NENs in the two countries.

Abstract Background Adults aged 65 years and above account for over half of all cancer diagnoses in the United States, but little is known about trend of elderly cancer survival in the United States. We aimed to assess the survival trend for elderly cancer in the United States from 1995 to 2014. Methods We used data from Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results 12 registries and included 1,112,441 eligible patients aged 65 years or older who were diagnosed between 1995 and 2014 with cancer and followed up until December 2019. Overall and stage‐specific 5‐year relative survival, ratio of observed survival to expected survival, with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) of elderly cancer patients stratified by age were estimated during four periods (1995–1999, 2000–2004, 2005–2009, and 2010–2014). Cox proportional hazards models were used to estimate hazard ratios for cancer‐specific death among patients diagnosed during 2000–2004, 2005–2009, 2010–2014, compared diagnoses in 1995–1999. We also calculated stage distribution and treatment rate during four periods. Results In the United States, 5‐year relative survival for elderly cancer patients improved from 57.3% (95% CIs 57.0–57.5) in 1995–1999 to 60.7% (60.5–60.9) in 2010–2014. After controlling for sociodemographic and tumor characteristics, about a 19% reduction in cancer‐specific deaths among diagnoses in 2010–2014 compared with 1995–1999. Cancer survival improved for elderly patients in all age groups, with exception of stable survival for patients aged 85 and above. Comparing 1995–1999 with 2010–2014, relative survival improved from 84.7% (84.3–85.1) to 86.7% (86.3–87.0) for localized stage and from 12.4% (12.1–12.7) to 18.7% (18.4–19.0) for distant stage for all cancers combined. The trends in stage distribution and treatment rate for all cancers combined were relatively stable. Conclusions In the United States, survival for elderly cancer patients has improved slightly from 1995 to 2014, possibly mainly due to advances in treatment. Further studies are warranted to explore interventions to improve elderly cancer survival.

In order to explore the effect of piperine-corn starch complex on its structure and physicochemical properties at sub-gelatinization temperature, corn starch was used in this study to prepare sub-gelatinized corn starch-piperine complexes at 60 °C. Gelatinization viscometer, differential scanning calorimetry, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction were used to characterize the complex. The results showed that piperine was successfully loaded on the sub-gelatinized corn starch with the loading rate of 39.45%. The scanning electron microscope results showed that piperine was successfully loaded in the swelled cracks of starch granules. The particle size increased from 15.20 μm (natural corn starch) to 25.80 μm (sub-gelatinized corn starch) and 81.90 μm (sub-gelatinized corn starch-piperine complex). The addition of piperine reduced the peak viscosity and trough viscosity of the sub-gelatinized corn starch. No new group or chemical bond was observed in the infrared spectrum of the complex while the addition of piperine enhanced the intramolecular and intermolecular hydrogen bonding between corn starch and piperine. X-ray diffraction showed that the relative crystallinity was increased from 23.52% (native corn starch) to 28.15% (sub-gelatinized corn starch-piperine complex) while the crystalline structure of the corn starch was not changed during the sub-gelatinized treatment. Compared to the native corn starch, the gelatinization enthalpy of the sub-gelatinized corn starch and the sub-gelatinized corn starch-piperine complex significantly decreased. The addition of piperine showed little effect on the structure of the sub-gelatinized corn starch, but it showed a significant impact on its physicochemical properties. This study would provide an important basis for the interaction and complex mechanism between starch and piperine.

Background: The stage at diagnosis is a major factor in making treatment strategies and cancer control policies. However, the stage distribution for liver cancer in China was not well studied. In this multi-center hospital-based study, we aimed to identify the distribution and factors associated with stage at diagnosis for liver cancer in China. Methods: We included patients diagnosed with primary liver cancer in 13 hospitals of 10 provinces covering various geographic and socioeconomic populations during 2016–2017 in China. The stage distribution overall, and by sex and age at diagnosis were analyzed. We used logistic regression to identify the factors associated with stage III-IV disease. We further compared these estimates with data from the USA. Results: We included 2,991 patients with known stage at diagnosis in China. The proportion of patients diagnosed with stage I, II, III, and IV was 17.5%, 25.6%, 29.3%, and 27.6%, respectively. The proportion of stage III-IV cases was higher in women [65.1% vs 54.9%, adjusted odds ratio (OR) = 1.5, 95% CI: 1.2, 1.8] and those ≥ 60 years (61.6% vs 52.8%, OR = 1.4, 95% CI: 1.2, 1.6). We found an increased risk of stage III-IV among drinkers and those without a family history of cancer. Compared to the USA, our study population had a substantially higher proportion of stage III-IV cases (56.9% vs 45.6%). Conclusion: The disparities in liver cancer stage at diagnosis among different populations within China, and between China and the USA, imply the necessity for improving cancer awareness and early detection for liver cancer in China.

Background: Esophageal cancer poses a significant global burden, while its patterns and trends remain to be clarified. The aim of this study is to provide an update on the incidence and mortality rates of esophageal cancer and their trends in China based on data from the National Cancer Registry. Methods: We extracted data from the National Central Cancer Registry (NCCR) of China from 2000 to 2016 and performed comprehensive quality control. We calculated age-standardized rates of China (ASR China) and world (ASR world) using the Chinese population in 2000 and the Segi's world standard population, and performed a joinpoint regression analysis to examine the trend in incidence and mortality of esophageal cancer. The annual percent change (APC) and weighted average APC (AAPC) over the entire study period were estimated to measure the changing trend. Subgroup analyses were conducted by sex, region and pathological type. Results: A total of 487 eligible cancer registries were included in the data analysis and 22 registries with uninterrupted registration data were used for trend analysis. In 2016, there were an estimated of 184,500 incident cases of esophageal cancer and 142,300 deaths in China. The crude incidence, ASR China and ASR world were 25.25/100,000, 11.00/100,000 and 11.13/100,000, respectively. And the crude mortality, ASR China and ASR world were 19.38/100,000, 8.25/100,000 and 8.28/100,000, respectively. Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) was the most common histological type, accounting for 85.79% of all cases, followed by esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC) (11.00%) and others (3.21%). There was a decreasing trend of ASR world in incidence and mortality during 2000–2016 with the AAPC of -4.6% (95% CI: -5.7%, -3.4%) and -4.6% (95% CI: -5.2%, -3.9%). The pattern and trend of esophageal cancer differ in sex, region and pathological type. Conclusions: The burden of esophageal cancer in China remains high with sex, regional and subtype differences. The incidence and mortality of esophageal cancer have continued to decline over the past decade, which was due in part to the reductions in risk factor exposure and the implementation of screening.

Abstract Organic near‐infrared (NIR) photodetectors with essential applications in medical diagnostics, night vision, remote sensing, and optical communications have attracted intensive research interest. Compared with most conventional inorganic counterparts, organic semiconductors usually have higher absorption coefficients, and their thin active layer could be sufficient to absorb most incident light for effective photogeneration. However, due to the relatively poor charge mobility of organic materials, it remains challenging to inhibit the photogenerated exciton recombination and effectively extract carriers to their respective electrodes. Herein, this challenge was addressed by increasing matrix conductivities of a ternary active layer (D–A–D structure NIR absorber [2TT‐oC6B]:poly(N,N′‐bis‐4‐butylphenyl‐N,N′‐bisphenyl)benzidin [PolyTPD]:[6,6]‐phenyl‐C61‐butyric acid methyl ester [PCBM] = 1:1:1) upon in situ incident light illumination, significantly accelerating charge transport through percolated interpenetrating paths. The greatly enhanced photoconductivity under illumination is intrinsically related to the unique donor–acceptor molecular structures of PolyTPD and 2TT‐oC6B, whereas stable intermolecular interaction has been verified by systematic molecular dynamics simulation. In addition, an ultrafast charge transfer time of 0.56 ps from the NIR aggregation‐induced luminogens of 2TT‐oC6B absorber to PolyTPD and PCBM measured by femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy is beneficial for effective exciton dissociation. The solution‐processed organic NIR photodetector exhibits a fast response time of 83 μs and a linear dynamic range value of 111 dB under illumination of 830 nm. Therefore, our work has opened up a pioneering window to enhance photoconductivity through in situ photoirradiation and benefit NIR photodetectors as well as other optoelectronic devices.

Globally, many low to medium yielding peanut fields have the potential for further yield improvement. Low phosphorus (P) limitation is one of the significant factors curtailing Arachis hypogaea productivity in many regions. In order to demonstrate the effects of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) on peanuts growing under P deficiency, we used a pot-based experiment to examine the effects of exogenous GABA on alleviating P deficiency-induced physiological changes and growth inhibition in peanuts. The key physiological parameters examined were foliar gas exchange, photochemical efficiency, proton motive force, reactive oxygen species (ROS), and adenosine triphosphate (ATP) synthase activity of peanuts under cultivation with low P (LP, 0.5 mM P) and control conditions. During low P, the cyclic electron flow (CEF) maintained the high proton gradient (∆pH) induced by low ATP synthetic activity. Applying GABA during low P conditions stimulated CEF and reduced the concomitant ROS generation and thereby protecting the foliar photosystem II (PSII) from photoinhibition. Specifically, GABA enhanced the rate of electronic transmission of PSII (ETRII) by pausing the photoprotection mechanisms including non-photochemical quenching (NPQ) and ∆pH regulation. Thus, GABA was shown to be effective in restoring peanut growth when encountering P deficiency. Exogenous GABA alleviated two symptoms (increased root-shoot ratio and photoinhibition) of P-deficient peanuts. This is possibly the first report of using exogenous GABA to restore photosynthesis and growth under low P availability. Therefore, foliar applications of GABA could be a simple, safe and effective approach to overcome low yield imposed by limited P resources (low P in soils or P-fertilizers are unavailable) for sustainable peanut cultivation and especially in low to medium yielding fields.

In this paper, five different species of cassava (SC9, SC10, SC11, GR891 and GR911) were used as raw materials and starch was isolated to study the differences in physicochemical and structure properties. The results showed that the amylose content of SC9 was the lowest (22.56%), and GR911 was the highest (27.49%). The surface of all species of cassava starch showed smooth and irregular spherical shape with the particle size of 12.43~19.03 μm. SC9 had the smallest particle size (12.43 μm), solubility and swelling power (10.35%, 28.00%), while GR911 showed the largest particle size (19.03 μm), solubility and swelling power (15.21%, 35.00%). All starches showed typical A-type crystal structure. The SC9 showed the highest (26.49%) relative crystallinity and GR911 was the lowest (21.92%). The SC9 had the lowest (0.756) short-range order structure compared to the highest (0.882) for GR911. According to the gelatinization properties, the species of SC9 and SC10 could be used as food thickeners or gelling agents. The species of GR911 was suitable for filling candy or weaned food. The species of SC11 and GR891 could be used as sticky food. The results of this study could provide a theoretical reference for the selection of cassava starch suitable for processing in the food industry.

Background: Updated systematic statistics on lung cancer are the underpinning cornerstones for formulating prevention and control strategies for the disease. The incidence and mortality data of lung cancer in China in 2016 were estimated, and also used to analyze the temporal trends of lung cancer from 2000 up to 2016 in this study. Methods: The burden of lung cancer in China in 2016 was estimated using data from 487 cancer registries, which were abstracted from the database of the National Cancer Center of China (NCC). The temporal trends were estimated with the data of 2000 to 2016 from 22 cancer registries. Results: About 828,100 new lung cancer cases and 657,000 lung cancer deaths were estimated in China in 2016. The crude incidence and mortality rates in the eastern region were the highest nationwide. The incidence and mortality of lung cancer increased with age, and most of the new cases occurred in the age group of over 60 years. The age-standardized incidence increased by about 0.8% per year during 2000 to 2016, especially in woman, whose annual increase rate reached 2.1%. The age-standardized mortality rate decreased by about 0.6% per year, with a decrease of 1.3% per year in urban areas and an increase of 2.3% per year in rural areas. The numbers of new cases and deaths increased by 162.6% and 123.6%, respectively, during 2000 to 2016, which can be explained mainly by the change of the age structure. Conclusions: The burden of lung cancer is serious in China, and increased especially rapidly for women in rural areas. The disease is expected to threaten the lives of more people in the future due to factors such as aging and population growth. Lung cancer prevention and control strategies and resources should be leveraged toward women and rural areas in the future.

This study aimed to prepare the pre-gelatinized banana flours and compare the effects of four physical treatment methods (autoclaving, microwave, ultrasound, and heat-moisture) on the digestive and structural characteristics of unripe and inferior banana flours. After the four physical treatments, the resistant starch (RS) content values of unripe and inferior banana flours were decreased from 96.85% (RS2) to 28.99–48.37% (RS2 + RS3), while C∞ and k values were increased from 5.90% and 0.039 min−1 to 56.22–74.58% and 0.040–0.059 min−1, respectively. The gelatinization enthalpy (ΔHg) and I1047/1022 ratio (short-range ordered crystalline structures) were decreased from 15.19 J/g and 1.0139 to 12.01–13.72 J/g, 0.9275–0.9811, respectively. The relative crystallinity decreased from 36.25% to 21.69–26.30%, and the XRD patterns of ultrasound (UT) and heat-moisture (HMT) treatment flours maintained the C-type, but those samples pre-gelatinized by autoclave (AT) and microwave (MT) treatment were changed to C + V-type, and heat-moisture (HMT) treatment was changed to A-type. The surface of pre-gelatinized samples was rough, and MT and HMT showed large amorphous holes. The above changes in structure further confirmed the results of digestibility. According to the experimental results, UT was more suitable for processing unripe and inferior banana flours as UT had a higher RS content and thermal gelatinization temperatures, a lower degree and rate of hydrolysis, and a more crystalline structure. The study can provide a theoretical basis for developing and utilizing unripe and inferior banana flours.

Many studies have shown that passive use of mobile social networks affects people's physical and mental health. However, few studies have explored the association between neuroticism and passive use of social networks, and the mediating factors that may indirectly contribute to this relationship. Therefore, the present study sought to investigate the relationship between neuroticism and passive use of mobile social networks and explore the sequential mediating role of fear of missing out (FOMO) and online social support. In the present study, data from a total of 531 Chinese undergraduates were collected by using the Chinese Big Five Personality Inventory, Online Social Support Scale, the Fear of Missing Out Scale, and Passive Use of Mobile Social Networks Scale. The results showed that neuroticism positively predicted passive use of mobile social networks through the indirect paths of FOMO and online social support and the chain mediating path of “online social support-FOMO”.

Phenolic acids are one of the major secondary metabolites accumulated in Salvia miltiorrhiza with various pharmacological activities. Moderate drought stress can promote the accumulation of phenolic acids in S. miltiorrhiza, while the mechanism remains unclear. Therefore, we performed transcriptome sequencing of S. miltiorrhiza under drought treatment. A total of 47,169 unigenes were successfully annotated in at least one of the six major databases. Key enzyme genes involved in the phenolic acid biosynthetic pathway, including SmPAL, SmC4H, Sm4CL, SmTAT, SmHPPR, SmRAS and SmCYP98A14, were induced. Unigenes annotated as laccase correlated with SmRAS and SmCYP98A14 were analyzed, and seven candidates that may be involved in the key step of SalB biosynthesis by RA were obtained. A total of 15 transcription factors significantly up-regulated at 2 h and 4 h potentially regulating phenolic acid biosynthesis were screened out. TRINITY_DN14213_c0_g1 (AP2/ERF) significantly transactivated the expression of SmC4H and SmRAS, suggesting its role in the regulation of phenolic acid biosynthesis. GO and KEGG enrichment analysis of differential expression genes showed that phenylpropanoid biosynthesis and plant hormone signal transduction were significantly higher. The ABA-dependent pathway is essential for resistance to drought and phenolic acid accumulation. Expression patterns in drought and ABA databases showed that four PYLs respond to both drought and ABA, and three potential SnRK2 family members were annotated and analyzed. The present study presented a comprehensive transcriptome analysis of S. miltiorrhiza affected by drought, which provides a rich source for understanding the molecular mechanism facing abiotic stress in S. miltiorrhiza.

Objective: To estimate the incidence and mortality of cervical cancer in China based on the cancer registration data in 2015, collected by the National Central Cancer Registry (NCCR). Methods: There were 501 cancer registries that submitted data to the NCCR, whose data were the basis for estimating the incidence and mortality of cervical cancer in China in 2015. After evaluating the data quality, 368 registries’ data were accepted for the analysis and stratified by area (urban/rural) and age group. Combined with data on the national population in 2015, the nationwide incidence and mortality of cervical cancer were estimated. Cervical Cancer cases of 22 cancer registries were applied for temporal trends from 2000 to 2015. The Chinese population census in 2000 and Segi's population were used to calculate age-standardized incidence and mortality rates. Results: An estimated 111,000 new cases were attributed to cervical cancer in China in 2015, accounting for 6.24% of all female new cancer cases in that year in China. The crude rate (CR) of incidence and age-standardized incidence rates by the China standard population (ASIRC) and by Segi's world standard population (ASIRW) of cervical cancer were 16.56/100,000, 11.78/100,000, and 10.86/100,000, respectively. The cumulative incidence rate from birth to 74 years old was 1.15%, whereas the calculation of incidence rates over the truncated age range of 35-64 years by Segi's world standard population (T-ASIRW) was 27.66/100,000. The estimates of cervical cancer deaths were about 33,800 and 3.94% of all female cancer-related deaths in China in 2015, with a crude mortality rate of 5.04/100,000. The age-standardized mortality rates adjusted by the Chinese standard population (ASMRC) and by world Segi's population (ASMRW) were 3.29/100,000 and 3.15/100,000, respectively, with a cumulative mortality rate (0-74 years old) of 0.35%. Both the incidence and mortality were higher in rural than in urban areas. The age-specific cervical cancer incidence significantly increased with age, particularly after age 25 years, and peaked at 50–54 years old, whereas age-specific mortality increased rapidly after 35 years old, peaking at 80–84 years old. The age-standardized incidence rates increased by about 8.6 (95% CI: 6.9, 10.3) per year during the period of 2000−2015. The age at diagnosis of patients with cervical cancer tended to be younger. In rural areas, the mean age at diagnosis decreased about 3.22 years from 2000 to 2015 (β = –0.33, P < 0.001). Conclusions: China has a high burden of cervical cancer and important disparities among different regions. Especially in the middle and western areas and rural areas, cervical cancer is a serious issue in women's health, and prevention strategies need to be enhanced. Prevention and control strategies need to be enhanced and implemented with reference to local status, such as human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination and screening programs.

Although mature and systematic theories of molecular photophysics have been developed, it is still challenging to endow clusteroluminogens (CLgens) with designed photophysical properties by manipulating through-space interactions. Here, the authors design three CLgens that show multiple emissions and white-light emission in the crystalline state, and emphasize the important role of secondary through-space interactions between the acceptor and non-conjugated donor units.

Abstract Specific bioconjugation for native primary amines is highly valuable for both chemistry and biomedical research. Despite all the efforts, scientists lack a proper strategy to achieve high selectivity for primary amines, not to mention the requirement of fast response in real applications. Herein, we report a chromone‐based aggregation‐induced emission (AIE) fluorogen called CMVMN as a self‐reporting bioconjugation reagent for selective primary amine identification, and its applications for monitoring bioprocesses of amination and protein labeling. CMVMN is AIE‐active and capable of solid‐state sensing. Thus, its electrospun films are manufactured for visualization of amine diffusion and leakage process. CMVMN also shows good biocompatibility and potential mitochondria‐staining ability, which provides new insight for organelle‐staining probe design. Combined with its facile synthesis and good reversibility, CMVMN would not only show wide potential applications in biology, but also offer new possibilities for molecular engineering.

Abstract Background Gastric and esophageal cancer (GEC) have made a great contribution to the cancer burden in China. This study aims to report GEC incidence and mortality trends in 2000–2015 and their predictions to 2030. Methods We collected GEC data from 22 cancer registries for Joinpoint temporal trend analysis between 2000 and 2015 and average annual percent change was calculated. Based on the historical changes, combined with the 2015 GEC national incidence and mortality rate, the rate from 2016 to 2030 was predicted grouped by sex and age. The crude rate, standardized rate, and cumulative rate were calculated. The number of cases were obtained by multiplying the United Nations' World Population Prospects and the predicted rate of corresponding years. Attribution changes between 2015 and 2030 were apportioned into demographics and risk factors. Abstract Background Ophiorrhiza pumila (Rubiaceae) is capable of producing camptothecin (CPT), one monoterpene indole alkaloid extensively employed in the treatment of multiple cancers. Transcription factors (TFs) GATA are a group of transcription regulators involved in plant development and metabolism, and show the feature of binding to the GATA motif within the promoters of target genes. However, GATA TFs have not been characterized in O. pumila. Result In this study, a total of 18 GATA genes classified into four subfamilies were identified, which randomly distributed on 11 chromosomes of O. pumila. Synteny analysis of GATA genes between O. pumila and other plant species such as Arabidopsis thaliana, Oryza sativa, Glycine max, Solanum lycopersicum, Vitis vinifera, and Catharanthus roseus genomes were analyzed. Tissue expression pattern revealed that OpGATA1 and OpGATA18 were found to be correlated with ASA, MK, CPR and GPPS, which were highly expressed in leaves. OpGATA7, showed high expression in roots as most of the CPT biosynthetic pathway genes did, suggesting that these OpGATAs may be potential candidates regulating CPT biosynthesis in O. pumila. Conclusions In this study, we systematically analyzed the OpGATA TFs, and provided insights into the involvement of OpGATA TFs from O. pumila in CPT biosynthesis.

Background: National Cancer Center (NCC) of China annually reports the nationwide statistics for cancer incidence and mortality using population-based cancer registry data from all available cancer registries in China. Methods: There were a total of 487 registries which reported high quality data of cancer incidence and mortality across China in 2016. The nationwide numbers of new cancer cases and deaths were estimated using the pooled cancer registry data, which were stratified by area (urban/rural), sex, age group (0, 1-4, 5-9, 10-14…85+) and cancer site for incidence and mortality, and then multiplied by corresponding national population. The world Segi's population was applied for the calculation of age-standardized rates. Results: About 4,064,000 new cancer cases and 2,413,500 new cancer deaths occurred in China in 2016. Cancers of the lung, colon-rectum, stomach, liver and female breast were the top five common cancers, accounting for 57.4% of total cancer new cases. Cancers of the lung, liver, stomach, colon-rectum and esophagus were the five leading causes of cancer deaths, accounting for 69.3% of total cancer deaths. The crude and age-standardized incidence rates (ASIR) were 293.91 and 186.46 per 100,000 population, respectively. The crude mortality rate was 174.55/100,000 and the age-standardized mortality rate (ASMR) was 105.19/100,000. The ASIR was higher but the ASMR was lower in urban areas than that in rural areas. In past decades, the ASIR was relatively stable in males, but significantly increased by about 2.3% per year in females for overall cancers combined. In contrast, the ASMR significantly decreased by about 1.2% per year for both sexes during 2000-2016. Notably, the cancer-specific ASIR and ASMR of esophageal, stomach, and liver cancers decreased significantly, whereas both rates for cancers of the colon-rectum, prostate, female breast, cervix, and thyroid increased significantly. Conclusions: Cancer remains a major public health problem in China, which demands long-term collaborative efforts of a broad community. With the national guideline on cancer prevention and control, tailored cancer prevention and control programs are needed in different regions to help reduce the burden of these highly fatal diseases in China.

Strong aftershocks have the potential to cause accumulated damage in structures, a feature which has been reported in post-earthquake reconnaissance studies, particularly for eccentric or irregular structures. This study aims to investigate the seismic behaviors of eccentric RC structural models under mainshock–aftershock (MSAS) sequences. In this study, three-dimensional structural models with eccentricities of 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25%, and 30%, and an eccentricity of 0 (symmetric structural model) are developed by changing the positions of the centers of the structural mass. A static pushover analysis and a nonlinear time history analysis are conducted on the structural models with different eccentricities considering unidirectional and bidirectional earthquake loading (including mainshock ground motion and MSAS sequences). The amplitude of the aftershock ground motion is scaled according to the structural damage levels calibrated with the inter-story drift ratio (IDR). Furthermore, the differences in seismic responses between the unidirectional and bidirectional eccentric structures are discussed. The results show that the peak displacements of the unidirectional eccentric structures under MSAS sequences are nearly 1.4 times higher than those under mainshock ground motions. The structural seismic responses under unidirectional earthquake loading are more sensitive to the intensity of aftershock ground motions than those under bidirectional earthquake loading. Compared with unidirectional eccentric structures, bidirectional eccentric structures are more sensitive to the intensity of aftershock ground motions and have larger torsional angles and more complex displacement trends. The maximum displacement and the maximum IDR of bidirectional eccentric structures under MSAS sequences can reach 1.5 times and 1.4 times of those under mainshock ground motions, respectively.

The DoA of radio waves is used for many applications, e.g. the localization of autonomous robots and smart vehicles. Estimating the DoA is possible with a multiport antenna, e.g. an antenna array or a multi-mode antenna (MMA). In practice, DoA estimation performance decisively depends on accurate knowledge of the antenna response, which makes antenna calibration vital. As the antenna surroundings influence its response, it is necessary to measure the entire device with installed antenna to obtain the installed antenna response. Antenna calibration is often done in a dedicated measurement chamber, which can be inconvenient and costly, especially for larger devices. Thus, auto- and in-situ calibration methods aim at making antenna calibration in a measurement chamber redundant. However, existing auto- and in-situ calibration methods are restricted to certain antenna types and certain calibrations. In this paper, we propose a Bayesian in-situ calibration algorithm based on a maximum a posteriori (MAP) estimator, which is suitable for arbitrary multiport antennas. The algorithm uses received signals from a transmitter, noisy external DoA observations, takes multipath propagation into account and does not require synchronization. Furthermore, we take an estimation theoretic perspective and provide an in-depth theoretical discussion of in-situ antenna calibration in unknown propagation conditions based on Bayesian information and the Bayesian Cramér-Rao bound (BCRB). Extensive simulations show that the proposed algorithm operates close to the BCRB and the achieved DoA estimation performance asymptotically approaches the case of a perfectly known antenna response. Finally, we provide an experimental validation, where we calibrate the antenna on a robotic rover and evaluate the DoA estimation performance using measurement data. With the proposed in-situ antenna calibration algorithm, DoA estimation performance is considerably improved compared to using an antenna response obtained by simulation or in a measurement chamber.

RBM15 expression is recurrently upregulated in several types of malignant tissues, and its high expression level is typically associated with poor prognosis. However, whether and how RBM15 is involved in the tumor progression remains unclear. In this study, we found that overexpressing RBM15 in NIH3T3 cells was able to enhance proliferation rate in vitro and induced subcutaneous tumor formation in vivo. Moreover, we imaged the subcellular localization of RBM15 with our home-built structured illumination super-resolution microscopy, and revealed that RBM15 formed substantial condensates dispersed in the nucleus, undergoing dynamic fusion and fission activities. These condensates were partially colocalized with m6A-modified transcripts in the nucleus. In addition, we confirmed that RBM15 formed “liquid-like” droplets in a protein/salt concentration-dependent manner in vitro, and the addition of RNA further enhanced its phase-separation propensity. To identify downstream targets of RBM15, we performed meRIP-seq and RNA-seq, revealing that RBM15 preferentially bound to and promoted the m6A modification on the mRNA of Serine/threonine/tyrosine kinase 1 (STYK1), thereby enhancing its stability. The upregulated STYK1 expression caused MAPK hyperactivation, thereby leading to oncogenic transformation of NIH3T3 cells.

Chronic inflammation is associated with lung tumorigenesis, in which NF-κB–mediated epigenetic regulation plays a critical role. Lung tumor suppressor G protein–coupled receptor, family C, member 5A (GPRC5A), is repressed in most non–small cell lung cancer (NSCLC); however, the mechanisms remain unclear. Here, we show that NF-κB acts as a transcriptional repressor in suppression of GPRC5A. NF-κB induced GPRC5A repression both in vitro and in vivo. Intriguingly, transactivation of NF-κB downstream targets was not required, but the transactivation domain of RelA/p65 was required for GPRC5A repression. NF-κB did not bind to any potential cis-element in the GPRC5A promoter. Instead, p65 was complexed with retinoic acid receptor α/β (RARα/β) and recruited to the RA response element site at the GPRC5A promoter, resulting in disrupted RNA polymerase II complexing and suppressed transcription. Notably, phosphorylation on serine 276 of p65 was required for interaction with RARα/β and repression of GPRC5A. Moreover, NF-κB–mediated epigenetic repression was through suppression of acetylated histone H3K9 (H3K9ac), but not DNA methylation of the CpG islands, at the GPRC5A promoter. Consistently, a histone deacetylase inhibitor, but not DNA methylation inhibitor, restored GPRC5A expression in NSCLC cells. Thus, NF-κB induces transcriptional repression of GPRC5A via a complex with RARα/β and mediates epigenetic repression via suppression of H3K9ac.

Abstract Background Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer and leading cause of cancer death among women worldwide but has patterns and trends which vary in different countries. This study aimed to evaluate the global patterns of breast cancer incidence and mortality and analyze its temporal trends for breast cancer prevention and control. Methods Breast cancer incidence and mortality data in 2020 were obtained from the GLOBOCAN online database. Continued data from the Cancer Incidence in Five Continents Time Trends, the International Agency for Research on cancer mortality and China National Central Cancer Registry were used to analyze the time trends from 2000 to 2015 through Joinpoint regression, and annual average percent changes of breast cancer incidence and mortality were calculated. Association between Human Development Index and breast cancer incidence and mortality were estimated by linear regression. Results There were approximately 2.3 million new breast cancer cases and 685,000 breast cancer deaths worldwide in 2020. Its incidence and mortality varied among countries, with the age‐standardized incidence ranging from the highest of 112.3 per 100,000 population in Belgium to the lowest of 35.8 per 100,000 population in Iran, and the age‐standardized mortality from the highest of 41.0 per 100,000 population in Fiji to the lowest of 6.4 per 100,000 population in South Korea. The peak age of breast cancer in some Asian and African countries were over 10 years earlier than in European or American countries. As for the trends of breast cancer, the age‐standardized incidence rates significantly increased in China and South Korea but decreased in the United States of America (USA) during 2000‐2012. Meanwhile, the age‐standardized mortality rates significantly increased in China and South Korea but decreased in the United Kingdom, the USA, and Australia during 2000 and 2015. Conclusions The global burden of breast cancer is rising fast and varies greatly among countries. The incidence and mortality rates of breast cancer increased rapidly in China and South Korea but decreased in the USA. Increased health awareness, effective prevention strategies, and improved access to medical treatment are extremely important to curb the snowballing breast cancer burden, especially in the most affected countries.

Abstract Burning rate of solid propellants can be effectively improved by adding catalysts and using smaller size ammonium perchlorate (AP). Although few reports, the exploration of changing the size of AP primary particles by catalysts is of great significance for improving combustion performance. Here, taking Co‐bipy as an example, the potential advantages of such materials as AP decomposition catalysts are reported. Due to the existence of NO3− combined with oxygen rich environment provided by AP, the structural self‐transformation from micronrods to nanoparticles can be quickly realized during the heating process. More importantly, when Co‐bipy decomposes, it can play the role of “scalpel” and in situ cut AP particles. Results show that high‐temperature decomposition of Co‐bipy/AP occurs at 305.8 °C, which is 137.5 °C lower than that of pure AP. Catalytic mechanism is discussed by in situ IR and TG‐IR, CoO can effectively increase the content of reactive oxygen species and weaken the N–H bond, realizing the rapid oxidation of NH3. Eventually, the behavior of Co‐bipy cutting AP particles is tested. This interesting catalyst structure self‐transformation behavior can not only realize the influence on AP, but also perform a positive function in the combustion process of solid propellants, such as opening the adhesive AP interface.

IntroductionAKR1C3, as a crucial androgenic enzyme, implicates the androgen biosynthesis and promoting prostate cancer cell growth in vitro. This study provides a new gene therapy strategy for targeting AKR1C3 to treat castration-resistant prostate cancer.MethodssiAKR1C3@PPA is assembled from PEG3500, PAMAM, Aptamer-PSMA, and siRNA for AKR1C3. We analyzed the relationship between AKR1C3 expression and the survival rate of prostate cancer patients based on the GEPIA online database to perform disease-free survival, and found that AKR1C3 may be an important factor leading to poor prognosis in prostate cancer. Considering AKR1C3 as a therapeutic target for castration-resistant prostate cancer, we constructed a complex nucleic acid nanoparticle, siAKR1C3@PPA to investigate the inhibitory effect on castration-resistant prostate cancer.ResultsAptamer-PSMA acts as a target to guide siAKR1C3@PPA into PSMA-positive prostate cancer cells and specifically down regulate AKR1C3. Cyclin D1 was decreased as a result of siAKR1C3@PPA treatment. Changes in Cyclin D1 were consistent with decreased expression of AKR1C3 in LNCaP-AKR1C3 cells and 22RV1 cells. Furthermore, in the LNCaP-AKR1C3 group, 1070 proteins were upregulated and 1015 proteins were downregulated compared to the LNCaP group according to quantitative 4D label-free proteomics. We found 42 proteins involved in cell cycle regulation. In a validated experiment, we demonstrated that PCNP and CINP were up-regulated, and TERF2 and TP53 were down-regulated by western blotting.ConclusionWe concluded that siAKR1C3@PPA may arrest the cell cycle and affect cell proliferation.

Objective: Breast cancer was the most common cancer and the fifth cause of cancer deaths among women in China in 2015. The evaluation of the long-term incidence and mortality trends and the prediction of the future burden of breast cancer could provide valuable information for developing prevention and control strategies. Methods: The burden of breast cancer in China in 2015 was estimated by using qualified data from 368 cancer registries from the National Central Cancer Registry. Incident cases and deaths in 22 cancer registries were used to assess the time trends from 2000 to 2015. A Bayesian age-period-cohort model was used to project the burden of breast cancer to 2030. Results: Approximately 303,600 new cases of breast cancer (205,100 from urban areas and 98,500 from rural areas) and 70,400 breast cancer deaths (45,100 from urban areas and 24,500 from rural areas) occurred in China in 2015. Urban regions of China had the highest incidence and mortality rates. The most common histological subtype of breast cancer was invasive ductal carcinoma, followed by invasive lobular carcinoma. The age-standardized incidence and mortality rates increased by 3.3% and 1.0% per year during 2000–2015, and were projected to increase by more than 11% until 2030. Changes in risk and demographic factors between 2015 and 2030 in cases are predicted to increase by approximately 13.3% and 22.9%, whereas deaths are predicted to increase by 13.1% and 40.9%, respectively. Conclusions: The incidence and mortality of breast cancer continue to increase in China. There are no signs that this trend will stop by 2030, particularly in rural areas. Effective breast cancer prevention strategies are therefore urgently needed in China.

The prognosis of human papillomavirus (HPV)-infected head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is often better than that of HPV- cancer, which is possibly caused by the differences in their immune microenvironments. The contribution of macrophage, as a principal innate immune cell, to this phenomenon is still unclear. In this study, a single-cell atlas of 4,388 high-quality macrophages from 18 HPV- and 8 HPV+ HNSCC patients was constructed with single-cell RNA sequencing data. Eight macrophage subsets were identified from HNSCC, whereas their functional properties and developmental trajectory were delineated based on HPV status. Our results demonstrated that macrophages in HPV+ HNSCC exhibit stronger phagocytic ability, although the infiltration rate of macrophages decreased. From the results, a unique macrophage subset with TCR and CD3-specific signatures was identified from HPV-related HNSCC. These TCR+ macrophages potentially participate in the regulation of the TCR signaling pathway and phagocytosis. In conclusion, our results suggested that HPV could affect the infiltration rate, function, and differentiation of macrophages in HNSCC, whereas TCR+ macrophages play a critical role in the HNSCC microenvironment. These results provide new insights into the immune microenvironment of HNSCC and offer a valuable resource for the understanding of the immune landscape of HPV-related HNSCC, which will in turn help the development of immunotherapy strategies for the disease.

However, the high activation potential (>3.5 V) together with the shuttling of lithium polysulfides (LiPSs) bottleneck its practical uses. We are trying to present a catalysis solution to solve both problems simultaneously, specially with twinborn heterostructure to shoot off the trouble in interfacial contact between two solids, catalyst and Li2S. Harnessing cold-resilient and calcium-enriched peanut production technology are crucial for high-yielding peanut cultivation in high-latitude areas. However, there is limited field data about how exogenous calcium (Ca2+) application would improve peanut growth resilience during exposure to chilling stress at early sowing (ES). To help address this problem, a two-year field study was conducted to assess the effects of exogenous foliar Ca2+ application on photosynthetic carbon fixation and pod yield in peanuts under different sowing scenarios. We measured plant growth indexes, leaf photosynthetic gas exchange, photosystems activities, and yield in peanuts. It was indicated that ES chilling stress at the peanut seedling stage led to the reduction of Pn, gs, Tr, Ls, WUE, respectively, and the excessive accumulation of non-structural carbohydrates in leaves, which eventually induced a chilling-dependent feedback inhibition of photosynthesis due mainly to weaken growth/sink demand. While exogenous Ca2+ foliar application improved the export of nonstructural carbohydrates, and photosynthetic capacity, meanwhile activated cyclic electron flow, thereby enhancing growth and biomass accumulation in peanut seedlings undergoing ES chilling stress. Furthermore, ES combined with exogenous Ca2+ application can significantly enhance plant chilling resistance and peanut yield ultimately in the field. In summary, the above results demonstrated that exogenous foliar Ca2+ application restored the ES-linked feedback inhibition of photosynthesis, enhancing the growth/sink demand and the yield of peanuts.

BackgroundThyroid cancer (TC), was the fastest-rising tumor of all malignancies in the world and China, predominantly differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC). However, evidence on TC stage distribution and influencing factors of late-stage were limited in China.MethodsWe carried out a retrospective study and enrolled TC patients who were first diagnosed and hospitalized in 8 hospitals in China in 2017. Logistic regression was used to evaluate associations between influencing factors and DTC stage. We extracted eligible primary DTC records newly diagnosed in 2017 from the USA's Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. We compared clinicopathological features and surgical treatment between our DTC records and those from the SEER database.ResultsA total of 1970 eligible patients were included, with 1861 DTC patients with known stage. Among patients ≥45 years old, males (OR = 1.76, 95%CI 1.17–2.65) and those with new rural cooperative medical scheme insurance (NCMS) (OR = 1.99, 95%CI 1.38–2.88) had higher risks of late-stage DTC (stage III-IV). Abstract Background Cellular communication is an essential feature of multicellular organisms. Binding of ligands to their homologous receptors, which activate specific cell signaling pathways, is a basic type of cellular communication and intimately linked to many degeneration processes leading to diseases. Main body This study reviewed the history of ligand-receptor and presents the databases which store ligand-receptor pairs. The recently applications and research tools of ligand-receptor interactions for cell communication at single cell level by using single cell RNA sequencing have been sorted out. Conclusion The summary of the advantages and disadvantages of analysis tools will greatly help researchers analyze cell communication at the single cell level. Learning cell communication based on ligand-receptor interactions by single cell RNA sequencing gives way to developing new target drugs and personalizing treatment.

Abstract Background Cancer is a major concern for children and adolescents worldwide. This study aims to report on cancer incidence patterns at age 0–19 years in 2011–2015 and their trends in 2000–2015. Methods We collected data on malignancies in population of 0–19 years submitted by high‐quality population‐based cancer registries in China. Age‐standardized rates by world standard population (WSR) and annual percent change (APC) were calculated. Results In total, 215 cancer registries from 30 provinces contributed datasets during 2011–2015. Twenty‐two registries provided continuous data for trend analysis from 2000 to 2015. In total 16,954 malignancies occurred in 177,416,582 person‐years. WSRs were 93.32 and 96.03 per million person‐years in children aged 0–14 and 0–19 years. Incidence rates were higher in boys than in girls and were higher in urban area than in rural area. In children aged 0–14 years, the top three common diagnostic groups were leukemia, central nervous system (CNS) tumors, and lymphomas in both sexes. In adolescents aged 15–19 years, the top three common diagnostic groups were leukemia, epithelial tumors and melanoma, and CNS tumors in boys and epithelial tumors and melanoma, leukemia, and germ cell and gonadal tumors in girls. WSRs for cancers in 0–19 years of age increased significantly in boys from 2000 to 2005 (APC = 5.3%, 95% CI: 2.3%–8.3%) and in girls from 2000 to 2015 (APC = 1.2%, 95% CI: 0.1%–2.4%). Conclusions Cancer incidence in children and adolescents is on the rise in China. The observed age, sex, and geographical variations in cancer incidence should be used to inform targeted prevention and control policies.

Background: Blood oxygen level-dependent magnetic resonance imaging (BOLD-MRI) has been widely used to assess renal oxygenation changes in different kidney diseases in recent years. This study was designed to evaluate and compare renal tissue oxygenation using 2 BOLD-MRI analysis methods, namely, the regional and whole-kidney region of interest (ROI) selection methods. Methods: The study ended up with 10 healthy controls and 40 chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients without dialysis. Their renal BOLD-MRI data were analyzed using whole-kidney ROI selection method and compared with regional ROI selection method. Results: We found the cortical, medullary, and whole-kidney R2* values were significantly higher in CKD patients than those in controls. Compared with the regional ROI selection method, the whole-kidney ROI selection method yielded higher cortical R2* values in both controls and CKD patients. The whole-kidney R2* values of deteriorating renal function group were significantly higher than those in stable renal function group. Conclusions: Cortical and medullary oxygenation was decreased significantly in CKD patients compared with the healthy controls, particularly in the medulla. The whole-kidney R2* values were positively correlated with kidney function and inversely correlated with the estimated glomerular filtration rate and effective renal plasma flow. Whole-Kidney R2* value might effectively predict the progression of renal function in patients with CKD.
