In a context where pandemic crises and chronic conditions are a constant and increasing threat, the success of public health projects is absolutely critical. However, little is known about the factors that influence the success of projects that aim to provide conditions for people to be healthy and prolong the life of the population as a whole. A mixed-method study was carried out to fill the literature gap, resulting in a new model of success factors for public health projects. This study seeks to examine the relationship between project complexity and project success in construction projects in Ghana while assessing the moderating role of project management competencies (PMC). Using a quantitative cross-section research design, data was collected from 141 respondents in organizations that undertake construction projects in Ghana. Responses were analyzed using IBM SPSS (v.23.0) and Smart PLS 3.0. The results established a negative relationship between Technological, Organizational, and Environmental complexity and project success. Technological complexity was seen as the dimension of complexity that significantly affects the success outcomes of projects. PMC’s moderating influence was insignificant. The findings suggest that, for projects to have an increased success rate, organizations must thoroughly investigate the kind of project complexity expected to be present in the project, and this will inform decisions on the caliber of skills/competencies needed for a successful execution of the project. The construction industry is characterized by its fragmented nature, which introduces numerous uncertainties and challenges for project management. Analyzing project impact factors is crucial for federal agencies to mitigate risks, make informed decisions, and ensure successful project outcomes. Although many previous studies explored critical project impact factors for various project types, this paper's primary objective is to identify and categorize the impact factors critical to projects' success in federal facilities. Additionally, the study ranked impact factors based on their significance and relevance to project management teams in federal facilities. The study surveyed federal agencies to identify the top-ranking factors within and across categories based on their impact. The research methodology encompassed a thorough literature review, data mapping, survey development, and analysis to identify, classify, and rank impact factors for federal projects. Spearman's rank-order correlations were computed for correlations between the impact factor categories. The impact factors were ranked based on their relevance and importance for the federal facilities based on frequency distributions of survey results—aligning with the data mapping and correlations exercises. The study's findings indicate that the top five factors with a maximum negative impact on the federal capital facility project belong to the early project life cycle phases, classified within the Governance and Stakeholders and Planning and Execution categories. The paper's findings aim to emphasize the optimization of stakeholder engagement and strategic planning to address critical risks for federal capital facilities projects early in the project life cycle—particularly the detailed engineering and procurement stages. This study examines the complicated links between knowledge hoarding, knowledge management, knowledge worker productivity, and project success. It aims to investigate the detrimental effects of knowledge hoarding on knowledge management, as well as the correlation between the knowledge management process and project success as measured through knowledge worker productivity. Knowledge hoarding is described in this study through the lens of cognitive motivational relational theory, and as a knowledge management barrier is explained through the lens of the knowledge-based perspective of the firm. Questionnaires are utilised to survey 405 Pakistani IT personnel via convenience sampling. For the analysis of data, Smart PLS-4 is employed, and Structured Equation Modelling is conducted. It is evident that knowledge hoarding does not affect IT firm knowledge management and project success. Productivity partially mediates the relationship between knowledge management process and project success. Purpose: This study aims to identify the influence exerted by the performance of human resources (HR) through effectiveness and efficiency in the success of business projects in Mexico. Design/methodology/approach: The methodological design was quantitative, explanatory, observational and transversal, where a sample of 502 was used. A structural equation model (SEM) was developed using the statistical software AMOS v25 to test the hypothesis. SPSS v25 was used for data analysis. Regarding the goodness and fit indices of the SEM, χ2 = 388.83/df = 143; χ2/df = 2.71; p < 0.001; GFI = 0.92; AGFI = 0.91; CFI = 0.96; TLI = 0.95; NFI = 0.94; IFI = 0.96; RMSEA = 0.05; RMR = 0.04; SRMR = 0.03, which turned out to be acceptable. Findings: Through the results obtained through the SEM, it is shown that there is a positive and significant relationship between the performance of HR through their effectiveness (r = 0.65, p < 0.01) and efficiency (r = 0.64, p < 0.01) with respect to the success of the business projects. Likewise, the effectiveness of HR has a positive and significant influence on the efficiency (ß2 = 0.46; p < 0.001) and the success of business projects (ß3 = 0.89; p < 0.001) in Mexico. In the same way, efficiency positively and significantly influences the success of enterprises (ß4 = 0.35; p < 0.001) in Mexico. Research limitations/implications: In this research, only the performance of the HR was assessed through efficiency and effectiveness as one of the variables that intervene in the development of the business project, and that is one of the main factors of analysis to achieve the success of the enterprise. In this sense, the results are limited to the extent that the findings can be generalized to business projects that are developed in different entities such as universities, incubators and other instances that promote the development of business projects and thereby guarantee success. In this sense, it is considered to carry out more research regarding these variables and others that can study the phenomenon and generate new scientific research. Practical implications: HR performance is considered as one of the main factors that allow the success of business projects. However, some practical limitations are determined by the vision, strategies, as well as the orientation that entities such as universities, and incubators, among other organizations, determine to develop the business project and thus guarantee its success. Other practical implications lie in the leadership that the entrepreneur exercises in his/her work team and collaborators to generate synergy between them considering culture and identity, as well as the commitment to the business project. Originality/value: The findings are relevant and of great value because they support entrepreneurship models, giving an alternative focus in the study to achieve success, specifically in the state of Guanajuato, which represents one of the main states that have with a greater number of ventures focused on the automotive, food, leather and footwear cluster, among other SMEs that promote business projects and is one of the main states of the Mexican Republic that contributes to the economic development of the region as well as the nation. A construction project is a combination of various planned or unplanned events that happen during the life cycle of the project and continue to exist under changes in the environment. In the meantime, some factors have double importance in the success of a project or its failure; these factors are known as project success factors. The purpose of this research is to provide a framework for the success of construction projects in Iran, focusing on large national projects. In terms of the nature of the research, the present research is an exploratory study. In terms of research strategy, it is a single case study about large national projects. The data collection tool in the research is the interviewing method. In the present investigation, the snowball sampling method, which requires consultation with knowledgeable people, has been used to introduce suitable cases for the research by them. To analyze the data, the thematic analysis and thematic network analysis methods have been used. The findings showed that the competence of the project manager was repeated more than other items in all the interviews. Therefore, the most important factor in project management is the competence of the project manager and the competence of the team. Nowadays, the employment of skilled and qualified personnel is an essential requirement for construction projects. It has been considered an important factor in other industries of the country, and the results of gathering the opinions of experts in the construction industry in this research also confirm this is the issue. Among the critical factors affecting the success of construction projects in Iran, the lack of use of advanced and up-to-date technologies was the most important factor. The presented work introduces a maturity model for evaluating Machine Learning implementations, with a primary focus on Production Planning and Control processes, as well as broader organizational and technical aspects in companies. This model emerges as a response to the research gap identified in the analysis of 14 existing maturity models, which served as foundational bases for the development of this novel approach. By examining success factors and obstacles at different maturity levels, categorized according to defined dimensions and overarching design fields, this model can serve as a catalyst for bridging the research gap between models demanded in practice and the scholary exploration of topics related to Machine Learning in corporate processes. The engineering projects sector has presented numerous challenges in achieving success. The need arises to understand the reasons for these challenges and determine the best way to address the issues and achieve success using the best approach. This study aims to gain a good understanding of the factors impacting project success in the engineering sector. The literature review revealed variables that influence project success. These variables are company culture, effective management, employee engagement, and effective planning. The study presents a statistical analysis of the data. This analysis shows that each independent variable studied has a distinct impact on the dependent variable, project success. The South African engineering projects industry has shown a relationship between identified factors and project success. Drawing from social learning theory, this study aims to explore the mediating effects of team learning orientation and team agility on the relationship between servant leadership and project success in the context of construction projects. Based on data collected from 306 construction project members in China, the findings reveal that servant leadership exerts a positive influence on project success. Additionally, servant leadership significantly enhances both team learning orientation and team agility, which in turn contribute to project success. Furthermore, the results demonstrate the serial and parallel mediating roles of team learning orientation and team agility between servant leadership and project success. Abstract We present a novel framework to assess 27 earned value management system (EVMS) environment factors and investigate their impact on project performance. A study of the EVMS literature, a survey of practitioners, and focus group meetings with 36 EVMS industry and government experts, supported the development of the framework. Focus groups involving 80 practitioners refined and tested it. We analyzed performance data from 35 completed projects/programs representing over US$21.8 billion in total cost; a project demonstrating a positive environment could save up to 25% in cost versus baseline. Abstract Building on the theories of social capital and self-determination as complementary perspectives, this study investigates how an individual’s idea of organizational social capital affects project success by testing a dual-stage moderated mediation model with self-efficacy as a mediator and transformational leadership as a moderator at both the first and second stages. Time-lagged data from 213 project management practitioners were collected from construction project–based firms. It was revealed that self-efficacy partially mediates the effect of an employee’s perception of organizational social capital on project success. Purpose: The research study provides empirical insights on the relationship between entrepreneurial leadership (EL), entrepreneurial passion for founding (EPF), entrepreneurial bricolage (EB) and project success (PS), in the case of freelancers. The study aims to get a better understanding of whether freelancers, who behave like entrepreneurial leaders, can successfully complete projects through EB. Design/methodology/approach: The study collected data from 209 freelancers through snowball sampling, in two waves, with a time-lag of fourteen days, to better examine the causality of variables. Data were analyzed by Model No. 4 and 7 (i.e. mediation and moderation, respectively) of Process macro. Findings: Drawing on the effectuation theory, the results show that EB mediates the relationship between EL and PS and EPF moderates this relationship. Practical implications: The freelancers can formally establish businesses later, after knowing whether they can complete these new types of projects. These online freelancing platforms can provide special services to freelancers who first want to test their skills on unrelated projects. In sum, the paper suggests that freelancers can be successful entrepreneurial leaders. Originality/value: The EL, EPF, EB and PS are studied in the context of the informal sector, i.e. freelancing, which is the emerging working style in the world. Purpose: This study aims to develop an overall project success (OPS) model by investigating the mediation impact of value management (VM) implementation between VM critical success factors (CSFs) and OPS as well as the moderation impact of VM CSFs between VM implementation and OPS. Design/methodology/approach: In total, 335 structured questionnaires were administered to relevant stakeholders in the study area. The research used a partial least square structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) to model the relationship among VM implementation, CSFs and OPS. Findings: The results revealed that there is an indirect positive and significant correlation among the variables. The model prediction analysis also significantly impacted with 59.9% on OPS by setting VM implementation as a mediator variable and 61% by setting VM CSFs as a moderation variable. Practical implications: This research work will serve as a guide or benchmark for decision-makers who want to use VM to improve the success of their building projects. A subcontractor is a company or individual who performs work for another company as part of a larger project. However, research shows that one of the factors for project delay is caused by underperformance subcontractor. Therefore, the research objectives of this study are to identify the contribution of subcontractor’s in assisting main contractor toward project success, to identify the benefits of appointing subcontractors towards project success and to suggest recommendation to improve subcontractor’s performance towards project success. The research method of this study is quantitative method where a questionnaire survey was distributed to respondent from G6 and G7 main contractor in Johor Bahru. The data was collected from 103 respondents which represents 47% response rate. The data analysis method used was descriptive analysis by using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) software. The result shows that the main contribution of subcontractors in assisting main contractor towards project success which fulfill labor shortage and expertise in previous project to be work on upcoming project. In addition, the benefits of appointing subcontractors towards project success achieved are availability of knowledgeable and experienced workers and specialized workers that work in the project. Furthermore, the recommendation to improve subcontractors’ performance where the main contractor should have good communication with their subcontractors. In conclusion, the result shows that understanding of the contribution of subcontractor’s performance will benefit main contractor in avoiding project delay and consequently towards project success.

This research has been done with the aim of identifying the effects of various types of corporate governance on the success of the project. Employing social exchange theory, we examined when and how servant leadership leads to megaproject success. Based on the data of 273 responses from project team members and project managers, our findings indicated that servant leadership improves project success in megaprojects by enhancing interpersonal trust. Additionally, when project governance is high, the effect of servant leadership on interpersonal trust is weaker. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the role of stress in demonstrating adequate project leadership and ultimately achieving project success, while also respecting followers' expertise as the most important context factor. During 2021, the empirical research was conducted on 71 project managers in the Republic of Croatia. Results obtained via SPSS Statistics 23.0 and PROCESS macro v4.0 for SPSS indicate that demonstrated project leadership and followers' expertise positively affect the project's success. According to the results, stress, due to its inverted U-shaped nature of effect, does not affect project success, whereas it has a negative moderation effect on demonstrated project leadership by reducing its positive effects on project success. In addition to these results, this paper offers other interesting insights into the relationships between demonstrated project leadership, project manager's stress, and project success, further filling the identified gap in research. PT. XYZ is an agro-business company in Gresik, East Java, which is currently in the factory construction stage. Field obstacles often occur, so the process of conveying information from all stakeholders involved is important. The author will evaluate communication management factors that influence project success using EFA-Maximum Likelihood and Spearman's rank order correlation. This analysis identified nine important factors: information technology, communication technology, communication skills, communication management plan, teamwork, clear channels in the organizational structure, project requirements management, project risk management, and environmental context. The language acquisition factor was excluded because it did not meet the EFA requirements. Spearman's rank order correlation shows that information technology, communication skills, communication management plans, teamwork, clear channels, project requirements management, and environmental context have a strong relationship with project success. The globalization of software development processes and outsourcing of software development projects worldwide has led to the creation of virtual teams. These teams are fraught with challenges due to the geographical dispersion of members, differences in time zones, and different cultures. Virtual teams have become an essential aspect of software development projects. Even after many advancements in this area and the challenges posed by virtual teams, the current rate of software project success generates the need to study this area. A quantitative approach is used to study the responses provided by team members working as a part of a virtual team and involved in software projects in the Indian IT industry. The responses received were analyzed using regression analysis to propose and evaluate the proposed research model. The finding of the research indicates that virtual team attributes, such as technological augmentation, team dynamics, diversity, and strategic decision-making, have a significant impact on software project outcomes. In a Virtual team setting, the model developed during this research will serve as a valuable resource for the project leaders to comprehend the factors that influence project success and assist in implementing policies towards successful software projects. The success of the project is the main goal in the management of projects of development and implementation of information systems. However, in the projects carried out by the joint team of the client and the consulting organization, the consultant’s goals are also set, namely the acquisition of the consultant’s knowledge and the growth of the consulting organization’s business. In this research, we examined the impact of inter-organizational coordination on the achievement of client and consultant goals. For this purpose, a model of coordination and harmonization of the goals of the client and the consultant in the development and implementation of the information systems project was created. Based on the model, hypotheses were set and tested based on the views of the designers. The hypotheses confirmed the significant influence of coordination on the alignment of client and consultant goals. The scientific contribution of the work relates to new theoretical knowledge in the field of information systems management theory, coordination theory, agency theory and contracting theory. The practical benefits of the research refer to the benefits that managers of client and consulting organizations have in solving the problems and challenges of the development and implementation of an information systems project when it is carried out by a joint team of designers. Purpose: The emphasis on short-term by project-based firms (PBFs) implies the adoption of project efficiency and impact on the team as project success drivers in PBFs context. Good performance by employees, as individuals in a team, can be explained by their behaviors, associated with goal orientation theory. Learning and performance orientations are associated with teams' effectiveness and overall project performance. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the relationships between the dimensions of goal orientation, especially learning orientation, and project efficiency and impact on the team, in PBFs context. Design/methodology/approach: A quantitative approach was adopted, based on data from a survey of 714 respondents, representing project managers, that turned into a valid sample of 315 composed only by PBFs respondents. The results were analyzed through multiple linear regression and, mainly, mediation analysis methods. Findings: Performance-avoid orientation is a predictor of project efficiency; performance-prove orientation, a predictor of impact on the team. Learning orientation relates positively to both project success criteria. Project managers should balance/induce the proper orientation within the team, favoring learning orientation according to the results, to have short-term project success in PBFs. Originality/value: There is a direct relationship between learning orientation and project efficiency, but it is fully mediated by impact on the team, which it was not found in previous studies. This study argues that they are not parallel constructs, constituent parts of equal weight in project success, but that impact on the team precedes project efficiency when learning orientation is considered. The University of Miskolc implemented one of the most significant and complex projects in its history by hosting the 2024 European Universities Games. In the research, which is partly descriptive and partly empirical, I examine the success and impact of the event from the perspective of the University of Miskolc, utilizing management theory and sports science approaches. To provide a better understanding of the research question, I introduce the process of organizing the event. The changes in the legislative environment and organizational model of the hosted international sports events in Hungary have significantly affected the event's project organization and, consequently, its execution. I will also look at another factor that influenced the large-scale project, the transformation of the University of Miskolc into a private university, similar to the co-organizer University of Debrecen. I participated in all phases of the organization of the event, I use primary data during the research.

The concept of project success has evolved from the perspective of conforming to the project triangle to that of benefiting the environment, and then from the perspective of the following generation. Scientists increasingly assert that successful projects require a set of criteria that include such item(s) as future potential. The meaning of project success varies depending on where it is executed. The purpose of this study is to identify whether projects with future potential have a certain effect on indicators of the Global Competitiveness Index (GCI) of the Republic of Kazakhstan (RK) and what other success criteria are inherent in such projects. By using the method of descriptive analysis of data collected from 107 experts and analyzing 19 influential projects, the study revealed that projects oriented towards the future have a significant impact on the indicators of the GCI in the RK. This finding confirms the necessity of considering the long-term sustainability and social significance of projects when assessing their successes. Additionally, a specific combination of success criteria that contributes most to this impact was identified. Purpose – The objectives of this study are twofold: first, to identify the effect of sustainability management on the success of international development projects, and second, to investigate the moderating role of political and social skills on this relationship. Design/methodology/approach – This study adopted a quantitative research methodology based on questionnaire data collected from 43 international development project managers from various fields in Burkina Faso (West Africa). Descriptive statistics and exploratory and confirmatory analyses using principal component analysis were used to assess the quality of the measurement model. A multiple regression analysis based on the partial least squares approach was used to test the hypotheses. Findings – The results show that sustainability management positively contributes to the success of international development projects. However, given the specificities of these projects and their perception of success, the project coordinator's political and social skills do not predict a greater impact of sustainability management on the success of international development projects. The study also found that project coordinators prioritize their technical skills over behavioral ones. Originality/value – This study fills a gap in the literature, given that little is known about the moderating role of political and social skills in the effect of sustainability management on the success of specific projects such as international development projects.

The Construction industry faces challenges and is increasingly failing to meet organizational objectives. This is evidenced by unsuccessful project implementation. Project failure oscillates between cost and schedule overruns and low-quality work, with construction organizations continuously failing to meet targets and losing significant funds annually. The public road construction subsector, which is currently in the spotlight for procurement irregularities, is equally challenged by the failures. Reports show that public road construction projects are not completed on time and within estimated budgets because of shoddy work and contract variations that negatively affect the government's goal attainment. This has resulted in several administrative reviews and investigations aimed at restoring sanity to successfully implement construction projects and meet government objectives. Studies are sprouting in the construction industry to determine successful project implementation factors that motivated this study's contribution. Based on the contractors' perception, this study aims to establish success factors for implementing public road construction projects. A cross-sectional research design using a structured self-administered questionnaire was adopted, and data was analysed in SPSS version 24 software. Findings reveal that monitoring activities and sanctions on staff are significant success factors in enhancing public road construction project implementation. At the same time, compliance with the public procurement regulatory framework, familiarity with this regulatory framework, professionalism among staff and perceived inefficiency of the regulatory framework are insignificant.

Important socio-technical changes are increasingly being implemented through major programmes or portfolios of projects (Maylor et al., 2006). These interventions, while necessary for modernisation and the green transition, cause short-term disruption which generates discord and opposition impacting stakeholder perception. The long-term sustainable transformation of rail transportation infrastructure toward electrification, greater speed, digital signalling, creates great benefit in terms of energy and carbon efficiency, reliability, and punctuality, but the short-term disruption caused by the projects can reduce the attractiveness of this mode of transport. This paper reports findings from an embedded case study with the Danish national railway infrastructure owner and analyses how the leadership team uses distributed leadership as a dynamic process of project and portfolio shaping which internalises diverse external perspectives and reconciles competing objectives. Using the “Tesseract” four-dimensional model of project success Ika and Pinto (2022a)to frame these competing interests, this paper presents a model of how distributed leadership shapes the railway project portfolio through the considerations of coherence, disruption, and benefit.

An ongoing debate in the leadership domain underscores the prevalence of project failures globally, prompting project managers to refine leadership strategies and create innovative practices to navigate project complexities, emerging technologies, artificial intelligence, evolving stakeholder expectations, shifting construction landscape, and brittle, anxious, nonlinear and incompressible environment challenges in the construction industry. This study aims to provide insights into the relationship mechanisms between leadership practices, communication, and project success, introducing a framework for behavioral practices to address challenges in the Australian construction industry, such as project complexities, inefficiencies, cash flow disruptions, supply chain issues, communication barriers, cultural diversity, digitalization, and regulatory protocols compliance. Exploratory factors/multivariate regression analysis on collected responses on 66 projects have identified four critical success factors: relationship management, communication effectiveness, leading by example, and self-management that impact and improve project success significantly using relationship and conflict management as mediators, help formulate creative practices using stakeholder analysis, conflict resolution strategies, and promoting collaboration enhancing the decision-making process to overcome challenges. Researchers validated and confirmed results through in-depth interviews with independent practitioners, encouraging project managers to modify behavioral practices using an explicit model for enhancing project success.
