Objective: We examined trajectories of depressive symptoms and their predictors in adults with diabetes. We assessed whether these trajectories were related to life satisfaction and mortality. Design: Longitudinal, prospective observational study. Methods: We analysed data from 1217 adults with diabetes (aged ≥45 years) in the Korean Longitudinal Study of Aging (2006–2018). Results: Three trajectories of depressive symptomology were identified in growth mixture models: low/stable (i.e., low and stable levels of symptoms; 85.56%), high/decreasing (i.e., high levels of symptoms with a decreasing trajectory; 7.47%), and moderate/increasing (i.e., moderate levels of symptoms with an increasing trajectory; 6.98%). Participants with poor perceived health status at baseline were more likely to be in the moderate/increasing or high/decreasing classes than in the low/stable class. The moderate/increasing class had the lowest satisfaction with quality of life, followed by the high/decreasing and low/stable classes. The moderate/increasing and the high/decreasing classes had lower satisfaction with relationships with spouse and children than the low/stable class. The high/decreasing class had a higher mortality risk than the low/stable class. Conclusions: Long‐term monitoring of depressive symptoms in adults with diabetes is warranted given their potential adverse impact on life satisfaction and mortality. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study examined the influence of lifestyle habits on health self-assessments among elderly rural men and the effect of age on the strength of the impact to provide a basis for targeted health improvement in this population. Data from the 2018 Chinese longitudinal healthy longevity survey were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance, regression analysis, and Shapley value decomposition tests. The model analysis results showed that elderly rural men who did not drink alcohol or were moderate drinkers, maintained regular sleep patterns, exercised regularly, and had active social interactions had better health self-assessment results (p < 0.01). Notably, the impact of lifestyle habits on health perceptions varied with age. Specifically, the influence of alcohol consumption and sleep duration decreased with age, while the benefits of physical activity and social engagement became more pronounced. These results suggest that lifestyle habits significantly impact the health self-assessments of elderly rural men, with notable variations observed in the strength of these effects across different ages. To improve the overall health of elderly rural men, alcohol cessation interventions should be implemented as early as possible, attention should be paid to the sleep habits of young male seniors, and low-intensity group exercise and social activities should be actively organized for older male seniors.

Exposure to ethnic discrimination has been conceptualized as a sociocultural stressor that is associated with lower self-rated health. However, this association remains understudied among Hispanics and less is known about constructs that may mitigate the effects of ethnic discrimination on self-rated health. Accordingly, this study aimed to (a) examine the association between ethnic discrimination and self-rated health among Hispanic emerging adults (ages 18-25), and (b) examine the extent to which self-esteem and resilience may moderate this association. A convenience sample of 200 Hispanic emerging adults from Arizona (n=99) and Florida (n=101) was recruited to complete a cross-sectional survey. Data were analyzed using hierarchical multiple regression and moderation analyses. Results indicate that higher ethnic discrimination was associated with lower self-rated health. Moderation analyses indicated that self-esteem functioned as a moderator that weakened the association between ethnic discrimination and self-rated health; however, resilience did not function similarly as a moderator. This study adds to the limited literature on ethnic discrimination and self-rated health among Hispanics and highlights that psychological factors, such as enhancing self-esteem, may help buffer the adverse effects of ethnic discrimination on health outcomes.

Narcissism refers to a personality trait of an extraordinary self-awareness and adoration. Studies have shown a close relationship between selfie-taking behavior, narcissism and oral health. Hence, a study was conducted with aim of assessing correlations between perceived health, perceived oral health, selfie-taking behavior, narcissism and oral health behavior in an adolescent population. Methods An analytical cross-sectional questionnaire study was designed using relevant literature for collating information on sociodemographic characteristics, frequency of dental visits, selfie-taking behavior and perceived oral health. Oral health examination was performed to assess decay and plaque using DMFT index and Plaque index. Narcissism was assessed using The Five-Factor Narcissism Inventory Short Form. Results The study included a sample of 163 participants. The associations between selfies taken per day and perceived oral health was statistically significant (p value 0.047*). Binary logistic regression models were constructed, which were significant for perceived oral health and grandiose fantasy. Plaque Scores showed significant corelations between indifference, manipulativeness, thrill seeking and age. Step forward binary regression demonstrated a significant odds ratio for grandiose narcissism followed by selfie-taking behavior Conclusion This study revealed a correlation between perceived oral health and selfie-taking behaviour. Further studies are required to assess selfie-taking behaviour and oral health.

Background: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is one of the most debilitating neurodegenerative diseases in youth, significantly affecting all life domains. Therefore, a strong association between MS, depression and anxiety symptoms has been established. The objective of the present interventional one-group pretest–posttest study is to assess the feasibility of an online single-session intervention (SSI) based on a cognitive behavioral therapy protocol targeting depressive and anxiety symptoms, psychological mechanisms, fatigue and overall health status. Methods: In this pilot study, 31 patients with MS (Mage = 42 years, SD = 12.2) received the online CBT SSI. The impact of the intervention was assessed using validated instruments two weeks after the intervention and after a two-month follow-up period. Results: Statistically significant effects were observed for the reduction of depression, with B = −7.58, 95% CI (−12.84, −2.31) and p < 0.01, and anxiety, with B = −15.17, 95% CI (−18.31, −12.02) and p < 0.001, at post-test and follow-up screening. Additionally, positive outcomes were seen for irrational beliefs at post-test, with B = −25.86, 95% CI (−46.10, −5.61), along with negative automatic thoughts, with B = −4.47, 95% CI (−10.65, 1.71), which were preserved at follow-up. Despite the health status also improving, no significant changes were observed for dysfunctional attitudes and fatigue. Conclusions: This research proves that the online CBT SSI was efficient for decreasing mild to moderate symptoms of depression and anxiety and reducing the intensity of dysfunctional psychological mechanisms in our sample. ObjectiveWith the emergence of the COVID-19 virus, there was a widespread infection rate among college campuses, creating a need to understand the impact of COVID-19 infection on the health and wellbeing of adolescents. The aim of this study was to examine COVID-19 incidence and cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) among undergraduate students in the 2 years post-COVID-19 pandemic lock-down.ParticipantsParticipants (n = 151) included undergraduate college freshmen students during the 2021–2022 and 2022–2023 academic years.MethodsA series of annual surveys (n = 151) and laboratory measures among a sub-sample of participants (n = 28) were conducted to assess COVID-19 incidence, CRF, anthropometrics, and physical activity (PA).ResultsOver half of participants self-reported COVID-19 infection (59%), “good” or better CRF, a healthy body mass index (BMI), and 25% met PA recommendations. Nearly a quarter, (24%) perceived a negative impact of COVID-19 on their CRF and although not statistically significant, participants who contracted COVID-19 had 46% lower odds of having a positive perception of CRF than those who did not contract COVID-19 before. However, students who were more physically active were more likely to perceive a negative impact of COVID-19 incidence on their CRF (p = 0.035).ConclusionAlthough no relationship was detected between COVID-19 and CRF, those who perceived a negative impact of COVID-19 on their CRF reported engaging in more physical activity.

IntroductionPrevious research has shown that leisure activities can positively influence perceived health outcomes by increasing individuals’ levels of physical activity. Yet, little has been discovered about the mechanisms that are driving this association. This study was conducted with the aim of examining the relationship between perceived health outcomes of recreation and happiness as well as the mediating effect of resilience.MethodsThe study comprised a total of 451 adult individuals residing in seven different geographical regions of Turkey, who were included using a convenience sampling method, and the data were collected between March and June 2023. Respondents completed assessments utilizing the Perceived Health Outcomes of Recreation, Brief Resilience Scale, and The Oxford Happiness Questionnaire-Short Form. Data analysis was executed employing the PROCESS macro for SPSS.ResultsThe study’s findings revealed that perceived health outcomes of recreation had a positive effect on both happiness (β = 0.146, [95% CI: 0.106, 0.186]) and resilience (β = 0.156, [95% CI: 0.107, 0.205]). Resilience had a positive effect on happiness (β = 0.435, [95% CI: 0.362, 0.507]). Furthermore, the relationship between perceived health outcomes of recreation and happiness was partially mediated by resilience (β = 0.068, [95% CI: 0.042, 0.096]).ConclusionAs a result, participating in leisure activities has been found to have a positive impact on perceived health outcomes, which in turn positively affects both happiness and resilience. Additionally, psychological resilience can be said to partially mediate the relationship between perceived health outcomes of recreation and happiness.

Aims: To examine (1) the association between healthcare workers' workplace ostracism and job satisfaction, stress and perceived health, and (2) whether this relationship is mediated by loneliness and self‐esteem. Design: A cross‐sectional study. Methods: Healthcare (N = 569) managers and employees (nurses, practical nurses, doctors and social workers) in Finland responded to a semi‐structured survey in January 2021 and evaluated their experiences of workplace ostracism, job satisfaction, stress, perceived health, loneliness and self‐esteem during the last year. To examine the association of these variables, linear regression and mediator model tests were performed. Results: Workplace ostracism had a clear direct association with job satisfaction, stress and perceived health. Loneliness fully mediated the relationship between workplace ostracism, stress and perceived health, and partly mediated the association between workplace ostracism and job satisfaction. Self‐esteem partly mediated the association between workplace ostracism, stress, job satisfaction and perceived health. Conclusion: The experience of workplace ostracism in organizations is a significant factor in job satisfaction, stress and perceived health. Healthcare organizations could strengthen job satisfaction and increase workers' well‐being by strengthening social relationships in the organization and, via that, reducing turnover intention. Implications for the profession and patient care: This study gives understanding and information to the healthcare profession on how workplace ostracism affects work well‐being and workplace relationships. Workplace ostracism decreases interaction, which can also endanger patient care if information is not openly exchanged. Impact: This study indicated that workplace ostracism weakened job satisfaction more than loneliness. More commonality and consideration for others at work are needed because these factors may help increase work well‐being and decrease exits from working life. Background and Purpose: During the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, people with Parkinson disease (PwPD) reported deterioration in health and physical activity. The aim of this study was to describe 1-year changes in physical activity and perceived health in PwPD during the COVID-19 pandemic and to identify predictors of sustained physical activity. Methods: This study compared perceived health and sensor-derived physical activity (Actigraph GT3x) in PwPD between the first (June to July 2020) and third waves (June to July 2021) of the pandemic. Multiple logistic regression analyses were used to predict sustained physical activity across the study period using personal factors, disease severity, and functioning as independent variables. Results: Sixty-three PwPD (mean age 71.0 years, 41% females) completed both baseline and 1-year follow-up (26 lost to follow-up). PwPD showed a decrease in average number of steps per day (Δ415 steps, P = 0.048), moderate-to-vigorous-physical activity (Δ7 minutes, P = 0.007) and increase in sedentary time (Δ36 minutes, P <.001) between baseline and 1-year follow-up. While self-perceived walking impairments and depressive symptoms increased significantly, balance confidence decreased between baseline and 1-year follow-up, no significant changes occurred for self-rated health, quality of life, or anxiety. Significant predictors of sustained physical activity levels were 15 years or more of education (odds ratio [OR] = 7.38, P = 0.013) and higher perceived walking ability (OR = 0.18, P = 0.041). Discussion and Conclusion: Among PwPD with mild to moderate disease severity living in Sweden, factors associated with reduced physical activity levels during the COVID-19 pandemic included older age, lower education levels, and greater perceived walking difficulties. There is limited information if perceived health is associated with diet quality in Hispanics. A cross-sectional study was conducted to evaluate is health perception is associated with diet quality among 109 adults in South Florida. Individuals conducting a primary grocery shopping event were asked to complete a survey about their perceived health and to provide a picture of their grocery receipt to estimate diet quality using the Grocery Purchase Quality Index 2016 (GPQI-2016). Data was analyzed using analysis of covariance, adjusting for age, gender, ethnicity, and household size. Mean age was 45.1 ± 13.5 years, 74% were female, 79% were Hispanics, and 36.7% perceived themselves as having 'Good' health. The total average GPQI-2016 score was 40.9 ± 1.0. Perceived health was not significantly associated with total average GPQI-2016 score (p > 0.05). Aim Background Methods Results Conclusions Implications for nursing and health policy This study investigates the mediation of sleep quality between perceived health and occupational burnout in hospital nurses, considering the moderation of workplace violence and organizational culture.Occupational factors lead to physical and mental distress, burnout, and sleep issues in nurses. Approximately two‐thirds of nurses experience burnout, impacting patient care quality and safety. Cultivating a positive organizational culture is essential for nursing workforce stability.This cross‐sectional study employed convenience sampling to recruit 346 nurses from a teaching hospital in southern Taiwan in July–August 2020 (response rate: 87.3%). Self‐administered questionnaires containing validated instruments were employed, including an adapted occupational burnout scale, the Chinese version of an organizational culture scale, a Perceived Health Questionnaire, a Workplace Violence Experience Scale, and the CPSQI; all instruments were reliable and valid. The analysis involved descriptive statistics, linear regression, and the Johnson–Neyman technique.Nurses with better perceived health exhibited significantly lower occupational burnout (p < 0.001). Perceived health indirectly impacted burnout through sleep quality (p < 0.01) with organizational culture as a partial moderator. Bureaucratic organizational culture exacerbated this relationship. Additionally, decreased workplace violence moderated the connections among perceived health, sleep quality, and occupational burnout among nurses.Given the inverse correlation between nurses' perceived health and occupational burnout and considering factors such as workplace violence, organizational culture, and sleep quality, healthcare institutions can proactively take steps to enhance nurses' overall well‐being and mitigate burnout.By implementing wellness programs, mental health support, security training, robust reporting, and a zero‐tolerance approach to violence, healthcare stakeholders can foster a safe and supportive work environment for nurses, thus improving well‐being, patient outcomes, and healthcare quality. University teaching quality depends on the workforce of the institution, both teachers and administrative staff. Considering this population has been little investigated, the present study aims to know the role of variables (sociodemographic and behavioral), burnout and work engagement on physical and mental health in a group of workers in a private university in Lima, Peru. In order to achieve this goal, mental and physical health (SF-36), burnout (MBI) and work engagement (UWES) were assessed in a group of 512 university personnel from Lima, Peru. Results showed that, even when they keep a good physical functioning, there're high report psychosomatic complaint, low energy, pain problems, overweight and poor health behavior. No differences between sex, age or type of work were found. The variables that better predicted physical and mental health were hours of sleep, work engagement, especially "vigor" component; as well as burnout components "emotional exhaustion" and "professional efficacy". Nomophobia refers to the contemporary fear of being unable to communicate sufficiently via a smartphone. As reported in the literature, nomophobia leads to excessive smartphone use, and one of the crucial issues of this overuse is its effect on physical and mental health. The current study aimed to investigate the association between perceived health assessments and nomophobia among young adult smartphone users through the mediating role of depression and stress. A cross-sectional study was conducted on 1408 young adults aged 18–25 in Athens, the capital city of Greece. Data were collected through a self-reported questionnaire and included information on sociodemographic characteristics, patterns of smartphone use, self-perceived health status, and depressive and stress symptoms. Nomophobia was assessed using the "Nomophobia Questionnaire (NMP-Q)". The effect of nomophobia on perceived health was analyzed by taking into account its effect on depression and stress. The results indicate a positive significant association between nomophobia and overall health burdening (i.e., musculoskeletal, hearing/vision, and psychosomatic symptoms). Depression and stress seem to play a significant mediating role in this association. Raising awareness through health-promoting interventions could play a pivotal role in eliminating the phenomenon of nomophobia and its consequences. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aims: Japan is known as a country with low self-rated health despite high life expectancy. We compared socioeconomic inequalities in self-rated health in Japan with those in 32 European countries and the US using nationally representative samples. Methods: We analysed individual data from the Comprehensive Survey of Living Conditions (Japan), the European Union Statistics on Income and Living Conditions, and the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (US) in 2016. We used ordered logistic regression models with four ordinal categories of self-rated health as an outcome, and educational level or occupational class as independent variables, controlling for age. Results: In Japan, about half the population perceived their health as 'fair', which was much higher than in Europe (≈20–40%). The odds ratios of lower self-rated health among less educated men compared with more educated were 1.72 (95% confidence interval (CI) 1.61–1.85) in Japan, and ranged from 1.67 to 4.74 in Europe (pooled; 2.10 (95% CI 2.01–2.20)), and 6.65 (95% CI 6.22–7.12) in the US. The odds ratios of lower self-rated health among less educated women were 1.79 (95% CI 1.65–1.95) in Japan, and ranged from 1.89 to 5.30 in Europe (pooled; 2.43 (95% CI 2.33–2.54)), and 8.82 (95% CI 8.29–9.38) in the US. Socioeconomic inequalities were large when self-rated health was low for European countries, but Japan and the US did not follow the pattern. Conclusions: Japan has similar socioeconomic gradient patterns to European countries for self-rated health, and our findings revealed smaller socioeconomic inequalities in self-rated health in Japan compared with those in western countries. Introduction: Colorectal cancer is the third most common malignancy in Iran. Self-care is one of the most effective non pharmacological interventions for controlling the effects of the disease and the side-effects of drugs. An educational intervention based on Pender’s health promotion model, which predicts health behaviours and self-care, can be implemented. Aim: To investigate the effect of an educational intervention based on Pender’s health promotion model on improving selfcare behaviours among patients with colorectal cancer. Materials and Methods: This quasi-experimental study was conducted at Omid and Imam Reza Hospitals in Mashhad, Iran from June to August 2021. A total of 160 participants were divided into two groups: the experimental group (n=80) and the control group (n=80). The experimental group received four self-care education sessions (two sessions by a nurse and two sessions by peers), while the control group received no intervention. Data were collected using a questionnaire before, immediately after, and three months after the educational intervention. Statistical analysis was performed using independent samples t-test and Repeated Measures Analysis of Variance (RMANOVA). Results: The study included 103 male patients (64.4%) and 57 female patients (35.6%). At one month and three months after the intervention, the scores for awareness, attitude, behaviour, and the constructs of Pender’s health promotion model (self-efficacy, perceived social support, perceived benefits, perceived barriers, perceived emotions) significantly increased in the intervention group compared to the control group (p-value

Aims: This study aims, probably for the first time, to compare the fertility intentions of migrants and non-migrants of the same nationality at origin based on their self-rated health, wellbeing, and gender. Methods: The study utilized data from the Families of Poles in the Netherlands (FPN) survey and the Generations and Gender Survey (GGS). This study used Blinder-Oaxaca decomposition models and generalized ordered logit models (gologit). Results: The findings reveal that both migrants and non-migrants who have good self-rated health and wellbeing are more likely to express a desire to have children in the short-term. The impact of perceived health on the intention to have children is significant for both female and male irrespective of their migration status. Additionally, the average fertility intentions score is higher for Polish migrants residing in the Netherlands compared to Polish non-migrants residing in Poland across the models. The study emphasizes the role good perceived health plays in shaping fertility intentions.

Although unhealthy lifestyle behaviors are well-known risk factors for poor health, the impact of insufficient infection control against COVID-19 at the workplace on health is unknown. This study suggested that promoting infection control measures at the organizational level may reduce the adverse effects on health of Japanese workers. Objective: This study investigated whether workers who practiced unhealthy lifestyles but worked under organizations with insufficient control against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) would pose a synergistic risk of poor self-rated health (SRH). Methods: A total of 22,637 workers (men, 48.5%) were extracted from an online survey during the COVID-19 pandemic in Japan (December 2020). Multiple logistic regression analyses were performed to estimate adjusted odds ratio (AOR) against poor (poor, fair) SRH. Results: Accumulation of unhealthy lifestyle behaviors (AOR, 1.49 to 4.40; P < 0.05) and insufficient infection control (AOR, 1.80; P < 0.05) were independently related to poor SRH; however, when these factors were combined, SRH was additively worsened (AOR, 2.14 to 7.72; P < 0.05). Conclusions: This study highlights that not only unhealthy lifestyle practices but also poor organizational management against infection would worsen workers' SRH during the COVID-19 pandemic. Introduction: Colorectal cancer is the third most common malignancy in Iran. Self-care is one of the most effective non pharmacological interventions for controlling the effects of the disease and the side-effects of drugs. An educational intervention based on Pender's health promotion model, which predicts health behaviours and self-care, can be implemented. Aim: To investigate the effect of an educational intervention based on Pender's health promotion model on improving selfcare behaviours among patients with colorectal cancer. Materials and Methods: This quasi-experimental study was conducted at Omid and Imam Reza Hospitals in Mashhad, Iran from June to August 2021. A total of 160 participants were divided into two groups: the experimental group (n=80) and the control group (n=80). The experimental group received four self-care education sessions (two sessions by a nurse and two sessions by peers), while the control group received no intervention. Data were collected using a questionnaire before, immediately after, and three months after the educational intervention. Statistical analysis was performed using independent samples t-test and Repeated Measures Analysis of Variance (RMANOVA). Results: The study included 103 male patients (64.4%) and 57 female patients (35.6%). At one month and three months after the intervention, the scores for awareness, attitude, behaviour, and the constructs of Pender's health promotion model (self-efficacy, perceived social support, perceived benefits, perceived barriers, perceived emotions) significantly increased in the intervention group compared to the control group (p-value<0.001). Conclusion: The findings of this study indicate that the educational intervention based on Pender's health promotion model effectively promotes self-care behaviours among patients with colorectal cancer. This study sheds light on inclusive entrepreneurship by investigating factors that underlie the likelihood of entrepreneurial intention for people with disability. While previous works show that entrepreneurial intention results from cognitive and mental processes, little attention has been given to perceived health, as a human capital, in shaping the formation of entrepreneurship. Yet mental and physical health is a hot topic in entrepreneurship literature and academicians call for more research in this field. We focus on a specific population, people with disability (PWD) since chronic conditions associated with disabilities have implications for individuals' psychology and cognition and, ultimately, their entrepreneurial intention. The results of a regression analysis on a sample of 212 PWD in France show that positive health perception is associated with a higher level of entrepreneurial intention by increasing alertness to opportunity. Opportunity alertness partially but significantly mediates the impact of perceived health on entrepreneurial intention. We contribute to entrepreneurship literature by offering a more socially aware analysis of entrepreneurial intention. We also help advance research on the psychocognitive factors that intervene in the entrepreneurial intention process. We add insights into this research stream by blending human capital (perceived health) and cognition (opportunity alertness) perspectives to explain entrepreneurial intention of PWD. Abstract Background The consequences of restrictive measures during the COVID-19 outbreak have potentially been enormous, especially for those in a vulnerable position in the labour market. This study aims to describe the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on work status, working conditions and health among people with (partial) work disabilities—with and in search of work—during the COVID-19 pandemic in the Netherlands. Methods A mixed methods design was used, combining a cross-sectional online survey and ten semi-structured interviews with people with a (partial) work disability. The quantitative data included responses to job-related questions, self-reported health, and demographics. The qualitative data consisted of participants’ perceptions about work, vocational rehabilitation, and health. We used descriptive statistics to summarize the responses, conducted logistic and linear regression and integrated our qualitative findings with the quantitative findings, aiming at complementarity. Results Five hundred and eighty-four participants (response rate 30.2%) completed the online survey. The majority of participants experienced no change in work status: 39 percent remained employed, 45 percent remained unemployed, six percent of respondents lost their job, and ten percent became employed during the COVID-19 crisis. In general, the results showed a deterioration in self-rated health during the COVID-19 outbreak, both for participants at work and in search of work. Participants who lost their job during the COVID-19 crisis reported the highest deterioration in self-rated health. Interview findings revealed that loneliness and social isolation were persistent during the COVID-19 crisis, especially among those in search of work. Additionally, employed participants identified a safe work environment and the possibility to work at the office as important factors for overall health. Conclusions The vast majority of study participants (84.2%) experienced no change in work status during the COVID-19 crisis. Nonetheless, people at work and in search of work encountered barriers to maintaining or (re)gaining employment. People with a (partial) work disability who lost their job during the crisis appeared to be most affected in terms of health. Employment and health protections could be strengthened for persons with (partial) work disabilities in order to build resilience in times of crisis.

Background: Persistent breathlessness is debilitating and increases in prevalence with advanced age and at end of life. This study aimed to evaluate any relationship between self-reported global impressions of change (GIC) in perceived health and breathlessness in older men. Design: Cross-sectional study of 73-year-old Swedish men in the VAScular and Chronic Obstructive Lung disease study. A postal survey included items on perceived changes in health and breathlessness (GIC scales) and breathlessness (assessed using the modified Medical Research Council [mMRC] breathlessness scale, Dyspnea-12 and Multidimensional Dyspnea Scale) since age 65. Results: Of 801 respondents, breathlessness (mMRC ?2) was reported by 17.9%, worsening breathlessness by 29.1%, and worsening perceived health by 51.3%. Background and aims: This study aimed to determine the prevalence of morbid thoughts and suicide attempts as well as their relationship with perceived health status, quality of life, and happiness in five low-middle-income countries. Methods: Data on 3373 men and women aged 40 years and above were collected from the World Health Organization’s (WHO’s) study on global AGEing and adult health (SAGE) survey on five countries: China (830), Ghana (438), India (1602), Russia (175), and South Africa (830). Outcome variables were morbid thoughts and suicide attempts, and the main explanatory variables were health status, quality of life, and happiness. Results: The findings indicated that among the five countries, India had the highest prevalence of both morbid thoughts 79.5% (95% CI: 73.4-84.5) and suicide attempts 75.4% (95% CI: 61.0-85.7), while Ghana had the lowest prevalence of both morbid thoughts 1.9% (95% CI: 1.3-2.7) and suicide attempts 2.5% (95% CI: 1.1-5.5). Furthermore, regression analysis revealed a significant association between perceived health, quality of life, and happiness with morbid thoughts and suicide attempts. However, the association between perceived health and happiness was significant only among women. Men and women reporting dissatisfaction with the quality of life had 1.521 times (95% CI: 1.126-2.056) and 1.762 times (95% CI: 1.406-2.209) higher odds of morbid thoughts compared with those who reported satisfaction with the quality of life. Conclusion: Perceived poor health, quality of life, and happiness are significantly associated with higher odds of morbid thoughts of suicidal ideation, especially among women. In line with the past findings, these findings support the importance of focusing on these perceived constructs of health and life for mental health promotion and suicide prevention programs.

BackgroundMigraine is a prevalent disabling condition often associated with comorbid physical and psychological symptoms that contribute to impaired quality of life and disability. Studies suggest that increasing dietary omega-3 fatty acid is associated with headache reduction, but less is known about the effects on quality of life in migraine.MethodsAfter a 4-week run-in, 182 adults with 5–20 migraine days per month were randomized to one of the 3 arms for sixteen weeks. Dietary arms included: H3L6 (a high omega-3, low omega-6 diet), H3 (a high omega-3, an average omega-6 diet), or a control diet (average intakes of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids). Prespecified secondary endpoints included daily diary measures (stress perception, sleep quality, and perceived health), Patient-Reported Outcome Measurement Information System Version 1.0 ([PROMIS©) measures and the Migraine Disability Assessment (MIDAS). Analyses used linear mixed effects models to control for repeated measures.ResultsThe H3L6 diet was associated with significant improvements in stress perception [adjusted mean difference (aMD): −1.5 (95% confidence interval: −1.7 to −1.2)], sleep quality [aMD: 0.2 (95% CI:0.1–0.2)], and perceived health [aMD: 0.2 (0.2–0.3)] compared to the control. Similarly, the H3 diet was associated with significant improvements in stress perception [aMD: −0.8 (−1.1 to −0.5)], sleep quality [aMD: 0.2 (0.1, 0.3)], and perceived health [aMD: 0.3 (0.2, 0.3)] compared to the control. MIDAS scores improved substantially in the intervention groups compared with the control (H3L6 aMD: −11.8 [−25.1, 1.5] and H3 aMD: −10.7 [−24.0, 2.7]). Among the PROMIS-29 assessments, the biggest impact was on pain interference [H3L6 MD: −1.8 (−4.4, 0.7) and H3 aMD: −3.2 (−5.9, −0.5)] and pain intensity [H3L6 MD: −0.6 (−1.3, 0.1) and H3 aMD: −0.6 (−1.4, 0.1)].DiscussionThe diary measures, with their increased power, supported our hypothesis that symptoms associated with migraine attacks could be responsive to specific dietary fatty acid manipulations. Changes in the PROMIS© measures reflected improvements in non-headache pain as well as physical and psychological function, largely in the expected directions. These findings suggest that increasing omega-3 with or without decreasing omega-6 in the diet may represent a reasonable adjunctive approach to reducing symptoms associated with migraine attacks. As smartphone addiction has been linked to poor mental health and lower levels of physical activity, it is of public health interest to explore the behavior behind problematic smartphone use and develop interventions to reduce smartphone use. This study aimed to investigate the risk of smartphone addiction and examine perceived problematic smartphone behavior among university college students.This online survey conducted amongst 1251 Danish University College students studied smartphone addiction in conjunction with physical- and mental health dimensions. The risk of smartphone addiction was estimated using the Smartphone Addiction Scale—Short Version (SAS-SV). The main results are presented as odds ratios from multivariate logistic regressions.One in four (23%) were at high risk of smartphone addiction. Of this high-risk group, 74% identified their smartphone behavior as problematic, with 91% having considered reducing their smartphone use.Students with a high risk of smartphone addiction perceiving their behavior as problematic were more likely to report low mental health and well-being.In conclusion, students at high risk of smartphone addiction acknowledge their problematic behavior and have actively considered behavior modifications. This knowledge can enable teachers, parents, and social and health workers to understand that a majority of heavy smartphone users are open to reducing their smartphone usage, albeit with the appropriate support.

Aims and objectives: The study was conducted to describe long‐term perceived health among patients after a percutaneous coronary intervention as well as clarify the associations between perceived health and various factors. Background: Perceived health is an important outcome for coronary heart disease patients who have undergone percutaneous coronary intervention. Poor perceived health predicts low adherence to treatment, morbidity and mortality. Design: An explanatory and descriptive survey with a six‐year follow‐up (STROBE Statement: File S1). Methods: Baseline data (n = 416) were collected in 2013, with follow‐up data collected from the same study group in 2019 (n = 154) at two university hospitals and three central hospitals in Finland. The employed self‐reported questionnaire was based on the EuroQoL visual analogue scale and EuroQol five‐dimensional scale. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and multivariate methods. Results: Perceived health did not significantly differ four months or six years after percutaneous coronary intervention. The respondents most commonly reported pain and discomfort (62.1%), problems in mobility (50.3%), issues with usual activities (27.5%), and anxiety and depression (24.0%). Managing self‐care (8.5%) was least likely to be an issue for the respondents. A majority of the reported problems were of a mild nature. The consumption of an adequate amount of vegetables, lower systolic blood pressure, regular follow‐up treatment, lack of prior invasive procedures, and younger age predicted better scores for both perceived health and its separate dimensions. Conclusion: Regular follow‐up is important to ensure after percutaneous coronary intervention to identify patients with pain and discomfort, mobility problems, depression and anxiety. Healthcare professionals should pay particular attention to elderly patients, who have undergone severe invasive procedures. Relevance to Clinical Practice: This study confirms the importance of regular follow‐ups for post‐percutaneous coronary intervention patients. This correlational study aimed to identify factors that contribute to changes in perceptions of digital technology among older adults during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study utilized raw data from "The 2021 Report on the Digital Divide," a nationwide survey conducted in South Korea. Data were collected from 1171 older adults (aged ≥ 65 years) from September to December 2021. Multiple regression analyses were performed to examine the factors influencing changes in the perception of digital technology. Over one-third of the participants reported positive changes in their perceptions of digital technology during the pandemic. Key factors included self-efficacy for digital devices (β = 0.35, p < 0.001), digital networking (β = 0.11, p < 0.001), accessibility to digital devices (β = 0.10, p = 0.002), and perceived health (β = 0.08, p = 0.003). The expansion of digital technology owing to the pandemic has served as a catalyst for changes in older adults' perceptions. Healthcare providers and caregivers should consider digital technology perceptions and influencing factors when providing digital healthcare services. The results can be utilized to identify vulnerable older adults with negative perceptions of digital technology, thus minimizing disparities in access to digital healthcare services. The use of nature-based solutions (NbS) in urban regeneration processes has been demonstrated as a multifunctional solution to increase the resilience of the built environment, contributing to improved environmental quality and health and wellbeing, and providing empowerment to communities facing natural hazards. However, when it comes to the assessment of psychological wellbeing and social benefits, existing evidence is still limited. To contribute to the knowledge of NbS' psychosocial benefits, it is necessary to develop and test assessment tools to contribute to a common NbS monitoring framework. In this paper, we describe the development of a psychosocial benefit assessment tool for nature-based interventions in the urban regeneration processes. This tool has been developed within the framework of the H2020 CLEVER-Cities project through a participatory and co-design process, considering advanced sustainability paradigms, such as Regenerative Sustainability and Sensory Sustainability Science. This tool is structured around two dimensions, (1) perceived health and wellbeing and (2) social benefits, which refer to 13 attributes, assessed through 24 items. The Delphi method was used to validate the assessment tool, in which a multidisciplinary panel of experts participated. BACKGROUND: Cleaning is considered a female-dominant occupation. Women cleaning workers present a high risk of suffering impaired health probably as a result of performing low-skilled tasks. However, to date, no studies have been found that examine the health status of female cleaning workers in Spain. OBJECTIVES: The objectives were to 1) determine the level of perceived health in a sample of female cleaning workers, 2) evaluate the main psychosocial risks they face, 3) explore the relationship between perceived health and psychosocial risk factors, and 4) compare the perceived health of those women who present some psychosocial risk factor and those who do not. METHODS: This is a multi-centered cross-sectional study carried out in the service sector of a Spanish company. The final sample was composed of 455 female cleaning workers. Sociodemographic variables, perceived health status and psychosocial risk factors were assessed. RESULTS: Women presented a high perception of health status. The main psychosocial risk was lack of acknowledgement by their superiors, which affected 25.2% (n = 111) of the sample. Moderate negative correlations (r=–.222 to –.442; p <.01) were identified between perceived health and evident psychosocial risks. Those women who presented some psychosocial risk (n = 174; 38.3%) had a worse state of perceived health in all variables studied. CONCLUSION: Presence of psychosocial risk had a relationship with a worse health perception. This article highlights the need to orient preventive actions in the psychosocial field. Background: Migrant domestic workers are vulnerable to physical and mental health problems given the many challenges they experience while working abroad. Using network analysis, this study examined the structure of depression, cardiometabolic health indicators (BMI, waist-hip ratio (WHR), blood pressure, and heart rate), bone mass, and perceived health status in this population. The network model allowed for an examination of central symptoms or symptoms with the most direct connections with other symptoms; bridge symptoms, or symptoms that link two or more communities; and edges, or relationships among symptoms. Method: Cross-sectional data were gathered from 1375 Filipino domestic workers in Macao (SAR), China. Data from a subsample of 510 participants who met a cutoff indicating depression were analyzed. Anthropometric measurements and surveys were used to collect data, which was analyzed using R statistical software. Results: Results showed four community clusters: three communities consisted of at least two depression symptoms each and the fourth community included physical health indicators. Strong edges were formed between BMI-bone mass, psychomotor-concentration, BMI-WHR, and sad mood-anhedonia. The node with the highest expected influence was BMI. There were three bridges: worthlessness, psychomotor difficulties, and concentration difficulties. Conclusion: The link between depression, cardiometabolic indicators, bone mass, and poor perceived health reinforces the need to address multimorbidity within migrant populations. Pregnancy is a unique period in women life, characterized by anatomical and metabolic variation that may affect health-related quality of life (HRQoL). Physical activity has the potential to positively influence HRQoL. The aim of this study is to analyze the association between the fulfillment of physical activity guidelines and HRQoL throughout pregnancy. Seventy-eight pregnant women were assessed at two time point through their pregnancy: at mid- and at later-pregnancy. Physical activity was objectively assessed by a multi-sensor monitor and pregnant women were categorized by the fulfillment of the minimum physical activity recommendations: at least 30 minutes/day on at least 5 days/week. Perceived mental health was evaluated by health-related quality of life and by psychological pregnancy symptoms, using the SF-36 and the Pregnancy Symptoms Inventory, respectively. T-Student Test and hierarchical multiple linear regressions analysis was developed. Pregnant women who fulfilled physical activity recommendations reported better mental HRQoL both at mid-pregnancy (p = 0.148) and later-pregnancy (p = 0.007). The number of days meeting minimum physical activity recommendations contributes to better mental HRQoL and together with depression and anxiety symptoms the model explain the 65% of the mental HRQoL at later pregnancy. Meeting the minimum physical activity recommendations is associated with better perceived health at both midpregnancy and later pregnancy. While mental HRQoL is explained by physical activity, physical HRQoL is explained by others factors such as age or pregnancy-related symptoms, but not by meeting the minimum physical activity recommendations. Introduction: The Healthy Caregiver Hypothesis (HCH) suggests that caregiving is associated with beneficial health impacts for family caregivers. However, mixed results have been reported, particularly when different levels of caregiving intensity were examined. This study analyzes the relationship between caregiving intensity and three health indicators (functional health, chronic illness, and self-rated general health) among Canadian older adults over 3 years. Methods: We drew upon a subsample of 11,344 participants aged 65 years and older from the Baseline and Follow-up 1 data of the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging and used linear mixed models to test the hypothesis based on different levels of caregiving intensity. Results: Older adults who provided low-intensity care recently or continuously reported better functional health and self-rated health than noncaregivers. In contrast, older adults with low-intensity caregiving responsibility reported more chronic conditions over time compared to noncaregivers, but this association was not found for high-intensity caregivers. Discussion/Conclusion: This study elucidates the HCH by incorporating caregiving intensity to understand patterns of better functional health and perceived health but more chronic conditions. Introduction: Emerging adulthood is a distinct and challenging developmental stage of life. It may be particularly stressful for Hispanic emerging adults due to various cultural stressors. However, there is little research on the impact of one particular cultural stressor, the acculturation gap. Therefore, this study aims to examine whether acculturation gap conflicts are associated with self-rated health.Method: Participants were recruited in Arizona and Florida, and 200 Hispanic emerging adults (ages 18-25) completed a cross-sectional survey. Data were analyzed using hierarchical multiple regression.Results: Coefficients from a hierarchical multiple regression model indicated that higher levels of acculturation gap conflicts were associated with lower self-rated health after controlling for psychological stress and other demographic variables.Discussion: This is the first study on acculturation gap conflicts and self-rated health among Hispanics. Findings from this study indicate that acculturation gap conflicts are associated with self-rated health and merit further investigation as they may have implications for health interventions targeting Hispanics. Aim: Societal ageing increases the need for correct and healthy ageing to ensure the well-being of older adults. Practical strategies are needed to acquire healthy habits for the ageing process. This study aims to analyse the lifestyle habits of subjects who are retired or close to retirement and identify factors that could influence their perceived health and that could be related to these habits. Methods: A Spanish observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study of subjects close to retirement-age. Socio-demographic, family, work, leisure, social, and clinical-psychological indicators were evaluated. Data were analysed using regression and decision tree analysis.Results The results show that individuals who experience an imbalance in their everyday life and who have few or no experiences of daily occupations imprinted by socio-symbolic occupational value experienced lower perceived health.Conclusions Low level of experiences of balance in daily life and occupational value seems to be the main risk factors for the development of occupational ill health, rather than sociodemographic factors.

Nowadays, when we are facing several strict regulations, the question arises - does higher strictness lead to the desired results? This study addresses the fact that less research attention has focused on the effects of environmental policy stringency (EPS) on perceived health expressing quality of life, and on green international cooperation. In addition, previous research has provided rather mixed results on the impact of EPS on green innovation. Therefore, we fill an interesting research gap and help better understand the relationship between market-based and non-market-based EPS, perceived health, green innovations, and green international cooperation in OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development) countries. Using three complementary databases provided by OECD, Eurostat, and the World Bank and the classical linear regression model, we confirm hypotheses that strong market-based EPS and green international cooperation have positive effects on perceived health. Surprisingly, contrary to the findings of prior research, we do not confirm the positive effects of market-based and non-market-based EPS on green international cooperation. This study contributes to the literature on the Porter hypothesis, technological collaborations in green technological development, and environmental innovation theory. In addition, this study provides several practical implications for policymakers across OECD countries.

The paper analyses the health situation and the perceived health status of a sample of women experiencing homelessness (n = 138) in Madrid, Spain. All participants were adults, and the night before the baseline interview, they had slept on the street, at a shelter or any facility provided to care for people living homeless. The information was collected using structured interviews, repeated twice a year for a 3‐year follow‐up period. The findings of this study show that women experiencing homelessness presented poor health, particularly in comparison with the general Spanish population. Over half of the women questioned claimed to have a diagnosed serious or chronic illness, with a correlation between these conditions and the age, time spent homeless or high levels of drug use. There was a positive correlation found between women's perceived health status and being younger and having access to independent accommodation, while having suffered a number of stressful life events and having spent long periods of time living homeless presented a negative correlation with a good perceived health status. The purpose was to examine the relationship between intergenerational support, perceived health and subjective wellbeing (SWB) of the elderly' s in China, and what role perceived health played in this study. Based on data from Chinese General Social Survey (CGSS) in 2017 (N = 1,373), regression analysis was employed to test the mediation effects by software STATA17.0 and Macro PROCESS3.50. The regression results showed that intergenerational support including intergenerational support received and provided had a positive relationship with the elderly's SWB. And perceived health was positively related to the elderly's SWB in all models. Providing intergenerational support had a positive impact on the perceived health of elders, but receiving intergenerational support cannot significantly influence it. And the mediating role of perceived health was played in the relationship between the providing intergenerational support and the elderly's SWB, rather than between the receiving intergenerational support and the elderly's SWB. Although some limitations were there, the findings contributed to addressing theoretical gaps and giving references for the improvement of policies.
