Abstract Poplar (Populus simoni) plantations are crucial in the sandy regions of western Liaoning, serving key roles in wind protection, sand stabilization, soil moisture regulation, and carbon sequestration. However, challenges such as suboptimal stand quality and limited ecological benefits persist. This study aims to elucidate the growth dynamics of poplar plantations and their impact on soil moisture content and soil carbon content in this region. We established 75 standard plots across various age groups and stand densities in Fuxin City, measuring poplar diameter at breast height (DBH), tree height (TH), soil moisture content, and soil carbon content. We found that DBH and TH increase with increasing stand density in young and middle-aged forests, but the opposite is true at near-maturity, maturity, and over-maturity, where DBH and TH decrease with increasing stand density. Soil moisture content rises with stand density in younger forests, while soil carbon content increases with age, with surface soil layers exhibiting higher carbon concentrations. The soil carbon stock in these plantations is approximately 3.0 × 106 tons, the highest recorded in Fuxin City. This research provides a foundation for the effective management and development of poplar plantations in wind-prone, sandy areas. Overall, optimizing stand density and managing forest age distribution are essential for enhancing the ecological and carbon sequestration benefits of poplar plantations in this region.

Abstract Background Both psychogenic pseudosyncope (PPS) and vasovagal syncope (VVS) in children and adolescents are diseases of transient loss of consciousness. It is difficult to distinguish them clinically. This paper will study the differential diagnostic value of P wave dispersion (Pd) and QT interval dispersion (QTd) between PPS and VVS. Methods The 31 children with PPS and 40 children with VVS from July 2014 to November 2023 were enrolled as the study group. Meanwhile, 30 healthy children who underwent a physical examination at the same hospital were matched to the control group. P wave duration and QT interval in the 12-lead electrocardiogram were measured at the baseline. Results (1) Comparison between groups: ① The Pd, corrected P wave dispersion (Pcd), QTd, and corrected QT interval dispersion (QTcd) in PPS group were significantly higher than those in control group (P 0.05). ② The Pd, Pcd, QTd, and QTcd in VVS group were significantly higher than those in control group (P 0.05). ③ The Pmax, Pd, QTmax, QTd, and QTcd in PPS group were significantly lower than those in VVS group (P 0.05). Abstract Objective This study aims to elucidate the therapeutic efficacy and safety of a taxane-based chemotherapy in combination with immune checkpoint inhibitors regimen in patients diagnosed with recurrent or metastatic head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). Methods We retrospectively collected clinical data from 154 patients who received at least two cycles of PD-1 inhibitors in combination with a taxane-based chemotherapy as first-line treatment in seven hospitals in Hunan Province, between December 2018 and December 2023. These patients were subjected to long-term follow-up. Results The study included 154 eligible patients, with a median follow-up period of 21.5 months. The median PFS was 8.7 months, while the median OS was 16.7 months. The 12-month PFS rate was 43.6%, and the 12-month OS rate was 60.1%. At 24 months, the PFS rate was 34.4%, and the OS rate was 36.9%. With 26 complete responses (16.9%) and 52 partial responses (33.8%), the ORR was 50.6%. Stable disease was observed in 54 patients (35.1%), resulting in a disease control rate of 85.7%, while 22 patients showed progressive disease. In the univariate analysis, the distant organ metastasis had a statistically significant impact on both PFS and OS. Subsequent radiotherapy following this protocol also showed a statistically significant effect on PFS and OS. However, radiotherapy before recurrent metastasis did not significantly affect PFS, though it did have a significant impact on OS. Other factors analyzed did not show a statistically significant effect on PFS and OS. Multivariate analysis indicated that the distant organ metastasis and subsequent radiotherapy following this protocol were independent prognostic factors for PFS in patients with R/M HNSCC, and the latter was also an independent prognostic factor for OS in these patients. Regarding safety, during treatment anemia was observed in 97 patients, leukopenia in 64, neutropenia in 33, thrombocytopenia in 28, transaminase elevation in 46, hypothyroidism in 46 patients, and one patient stopped taking the medication due to a serious adverse reaction. No treatment-related deaths occurred. Conclusion The combination of PD-1 inhibitors with a a taxane-based chemotherapy regimen as a first-line treatment for R/M HNSCC patients demonstrates good therapeutic efficacy and acceptable safety profiles.

Abstract Sulfide solid-state electrolytes (SSEs) are promising candidates to realize all solid-state batteries (ASSBs) due to their superior ionic conductivity and excellent ductility. However, their hypersensitivity to moisture requires processing environments that are not compatible with today’s lithium-ion battery manufacturing infrastructure. Herein, we present a reversible surface modification strategy that enables the processability of sulfide SSEs (e. g., Li6PS5Cl) under humid ambient air. We demonstrate that a long chain alkyl thiol, 1-undecanethiol, is chemically compatible with the electrolyte with negligible impact on its ion conductivity. Importantly, the thiol modification extends the amount of time that the sulfide SSE can be exposed to air with 33% relative humidity (33% RH) with limited degradation of its structure while retaining a conductivity of above 1 mS cm-1 for up to 2 days, a more than 100-fold improvement in protection time over competing approaches. Experimental and computational results reveal that the thiol group anchors to the SSE surface, while the hydrophobic hydrocarbon tail provides protection by repelling water. The modified Li6PS5Cl SSE maintains its function after exposure to ambient humidity when implemented in a Li0.5In | |LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2 ASSB. The proposed protection strategy based on surface molecular interactions represents a major step forward towards cost-competitive and energy-efficient sulfide SSE manufacturing for ASSB applications.

Abstract Background Observational studies suggest that metformin may reduce the risk of malignant tumors of the digestive system (MTDS), but these findings are often confounded by bias and unmeasured variables. Recent meta-analyses have questioned these associations, emphasizing the need for robust causal inference. Methods Mendelian randomization (MR) was used to evaluate the causal relationship between metformin and MTDS. Genetic variants associated with metformin’s molecular targets were selected from GTEx, eQTLGen, and UK Biobank and validated using genetic colocalization to ensure instrument validity. GWAS summary statistics for MTDS, encompassing up to 314,193 controls and 6,847 colorectal cancer cases, were obtained from FinnGen and EBI. The primary analysis employed the inverse-variance weighted (IVW) method, supplemented by MR-Egger, weighted median, and weighted mode analyses. Bonferroni correction was applied to adjust for multiple testing across 14 cancer types. Results Genetically proxied metformin use was associated with an increased risk of colorectal cancer (OR = 2.38, 95%CI = 1.38–4.09, P = 0.0018) and related subtypes. No causal relationship was found for hepatocellular carcinoma, gastric cancer, pancreatic cancer, or other digestive system cancers. The robustness of these findings was supported by sensitivity analyses, which indicated no significant pleiotropy, and leave-one-out tests. Conclusion This study provides robust genetic evidence that metformin use increases the risk of colorectal cancer, challenging its role as a preventive agent for digestive cancers. These findings emphasize the need for clinicians to carefully evaluate the risks and benefits of metformin, particularly in populations at higher risk for colorectal cancer. Future research should focus on delineating the mechanisms underlying this association to optimize the use of metformin in clinical practice.

Abstract Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is an aging-related malignancy, with patients aged ≥60 years old facing significantly poorer prognosis. Umbilical cord blood (UCB) has emerged as a promising source with effective anti-aging roles. Here, we conducted a prospective, phase 2, single-arm trial of UCB infusion as an adjuvant consolidation therapy in elderly AML patients (ChiCTR-OPC-15006492). A total of 51 patients were enrolled (median age 66 years; range, 60–75) and received two cycles of consolidation chemotherapy combined with UCB infusion. At a median follow-up of 27.3 months (range, 9.3–100), the median overall survival (OS) was not yet reached and the median event-free survival (EFS) was 72.2 months (range, 5.4–100). The 2-year OS and EFS rates were 76.9% and 62.8%, respectively. No acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD) or toxicity-related death occurred in any patient. The median times to platelet and neutrophil recovery were 11.5 days (range, 6–17) and 12.2 days (range, 0–21), respectively. Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) identified enhanced anti-tumor and anti-aging properties of UCB, manifested through activation of immune responses and telomere synthesis/maintenance. These findings suggest that UCB infusion is an effective and safe post-remission adjuvant therapy for elderly AML patients. This study provides evidence that anti-aging therapy may serve as a new and promising dimension in combined cancer treatment.

Abstract Cyclin-dependent kinase 9 (CDK9) is a crucial component of transcription and potential target for anti-cancer therapies, particularly for hematological malignancies. However, the precise mechanisms underlying the therapeutic effects of CDK9 inhibitors remain not fully understood. Here, we found that inhibiting CDK9 either pharmacologically or through gene downregulation, significantly reduced the levels of α-tubulin protein in a time- and dose-dependent manner. We further discovered that CDK9 inhibition led to increased susceptibility of α-tubulin to proteasomal degradation due to reduced acetylation at lysine 40 (K40), an important modification for microtubule stability. An acetylation-mimicking mutant of α-tubulin mitigated the anti-tumor effects of CDK9 inhibition. Mechanically, we identified that CDK9 inhibition downregulated the expression of ATAT1, the acetyltransferase responsible for α-tubulin acetylation, further compromising microtubule stability. We also conducted in vivo studies in a leukemic xenograft model, where AZD4573 treatment led to significant tumor regression, decreased ATAT1 expression, and α-tubulin degradation. Our study unravels a novel molecular mechanism by which CDK9 inhibition disrupts α-tubulin stability and provides valuable insights for exploring effective treatment regimens involving CDK9 inhibitors.

Heat shock proteins (HSPs), also known as heat stress proteins, can be divided into five main families, including HSP100, HSP90, HSP70, HSP60, and small heat shock proteins (sHSPs), according to their molecular weight. Further studies have shown that HSPs represent a class of highly conserved proteins that widely exist in the subcellular compartments of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. They have many functions, such as protein folding, repair, and immunity, and play important roles in organism growth and development. For example, Dmhsp70-A and Dmhsp70-B showed similar trends in the development of asexual embryos in Daphnia magna. However, they exhibited different trends in the development of sexual embryos despite high expression in both embryo types. Penaeus japonicus is one of the most important commercial shrimp species in China, Japan, and Southeast Asian countries. Relevant studies have shown that hsp genes widely exist in P. japonicus and play important roles in growth and development. For example, hsp10 and hsp60 were expressed in all tissues of P. japonicus, and the differential expression of hsp60 was identified in the early development stages. However, previous studies were based on single genes, and more systematic studies based on the role of the hsp gene family in the growth and development of P. japonicus have not been published. Our laboratory has completed the genome sequence of P. japonicus, which provides basic data for analyzing the molecular mechanism of hsp in the growth and development of P. japonicus. To further study the characteristics of the hsp gene family in P. japonicus and the expression characteristics of hsp genes during different development stages, the hsp gene family of P. japonicus was identified and analyzed using bioinformatics methods, and variation in its expression during the development of P. japonicus was measured using reverse transcription and quantitative real-time (RT-qPCR). Fifteen members of the hsp gene family were identified from the whole genome of P. japonicus via bioinformatics analysis, and their gene structures, motif compositions, chromosome localizations, and phylogenetic characteristics were analyzed. The expression of hsp genes in maternal-to-zygotic cells, blastocysts, gastrulae, limb buds, intramembranous nauplii, stage 1 nauplii, stage 1 zoeae, stage 1 myses, and stage 1 post-larval juveniles of P. japonicus was measured using qPCR. A total of 15 hsp genes were identified, including 1 hsp10, 2 hsp20, 2 hsp40, 1 hsp60, 6 hsp70, and 3 hsp90 genes. The physicochemical properties of seven proteins were stable, with instability coefficients less than 40. Subcellular localization results showed that most of the hsp gene family members were located in the cytoplasm, as seven hsp genes were localized to the cytoplasm, two to the nucleus, two to the extracellular region, two to the endoplasmic reticulum, and two to the mitochondria. Isoelectric point (pI) is related to the number and proportion of acidic and basic amino acids contained in a protein. Most HSPs exhibited a pI < 7, suggesting they were acidic proteins. The 15 hsp genes were located on 11 chromosomes. Phylogenetic tree analysis showed that most of the HSP family members were first clustered with HSP family members from species such as Penaeus monodon, Litopenaeus vannamei, and Fenneropenaeus chinensis and then with HSP family members of other species, which was consistent with the traditional taxonomic status. A few HSP family members were clustered first with HSP family members from Eriocheir sinensis, D. melanogaster, and other insects, and then with HSP family members from other species. Motif analysis showed that the hsp gene family was highly conserved; however, the functions of different families were quite different. Structural domain analysis showed that the HSP family included cpn10-, metazoan ACD-, DnaJ bact superfamily-, GroEL-, PTZ00009 superfamily-, dnaK-, HSP70 superfamily-, HSP90 superfamily-, PRK14083 superfamily-, and HATpase_HSP90-like domains. Each gene family contained corresponding domains and was important in molecular chaperone processes. hsp genes were expressed in different developmental stages of P. japonicus and played important roles in growth and development. The trend of Pjhsp10-19.517 was similar to that of Pjhsp60-19.518, which was highly expressed during embryonic development and significantly downregulated during larval development. This is consistent with the conclusion of previous studies that HSP60 and HSP10 are molecular chaperones for each other to ensure the correct folding of the target protein. The hsp genes such as Pjhsp40-15.349, Pjhsp70-39.287, Pjhsp70-1.298, and Pjhsp90 were highly expressed in the embryonic period; Pjhsp20, Pjhsp70-3.662, Pjhsp70-15.369, Pjhsp70-32.916, and Pjhsp90-12.759 were highly expressed during the larval period. The hsp genes expressed at high levels during the embryonic period satisfy the high protein requirements of embryos by playing the role of molecular chaperone and regulating the transcription of vitellogenin to meet the embryonic need for vitellin. The hsp genes expressed at high levels during the larval period protect the body from environmental pressure, pathogens, and xenobiotics through a synergistic immune effect. The authors believe that hsp genes play important roles in the growth and development of P. japonicus, and the specific pathways and mechanisms should be further studied. This study provides basic data for further investigations of the role of hsp genes in the growth and development of P. japonicus.

Abstract The preparation of sintered NdFeB magnets is complex, time-consuming, and costly. Data-driven machine learning methods can enhance the efficiency of material synthesis and performance optimization. Traditional machine learning models based on mathematical and statistical principles are effective for structured data and offer high interpretability. However, as the scale and dimensionality of the data increase, the computational complexity of models rises dramatically, making hyperparameter tuning more challenging. By contrast, neural network models possess strong nonlinear modeling capabilities for handling large-scale data, but their decision-making and inferential processes remain opaque. To enhance interpretability of neural network, we collected 1,200 high-quality experimental data points and developed a multi-head attention regression model by integrating an attention mechanism into the neural network. The model enables parallel data processing, accelerates both training and inference speed, and reduces reliance on feature engineering and hyperparameter tuning. The coefficients of determination for remanence and coercivity are 0.97 and 0.84, respectively. This study offers new insights into machine learning-based modeling of structure-property relationships in materials and has potential to advance the research of multimodal NdFeB magnet models.

Skin aging is an increasingly prominent topic in the context of healthy aging. During the aging process, the skin’s barrier function diminishes, its water content decreases, wrinkles begin to form, and changes occur in the gut microbiota composition. However, the relationship between gut microbiota and skin aging remains unclear. In this study, we explored skin rejuvenation in aged mice through fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) using feces from young mice. The results demonstrated enhanced water retention, thickened stratum corneum, increased collagen content, and improved epithelial cell differentiation in aged mice following FMT. Notably, FMT particularly increased the abundance of Lactobacillus and Lactococcus in aged mice, which were nearly undetectable in untreated aged mice. Non-targeted and targeted metabolomics analyses indicated that FMT significantly elevated levels of tryptophan (Trp) and its microbiota metabolites (e.g., indole-3-lactic acid (ILA)) in the feces and serum of aged mice. Both Trp and ILA appeared to rejuvenate aged skin by activating the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) to promote epidermal cell differentiation. In conclusion, FMT from young mice rejuvenated aged skin via Trp-metabolizing bacteria (Lactobacillus and Lactococcus) and Trp-derived metabolites, suggesting that interventions targeting Trp metabolites may effectively improve skin aging.

Nanocomposites represent one of the most useful strategies for resolving the pharmaceutical challenge about the dissolution and delivery of poorly water-soluble drugs. Besides the compatibility between the drug and polymeric carriers, the physical shapes of materials also play their important roles on the release behaviors of a guest poorly water-soluble drug from the host polymeric matrices. In this study, three kinds of nanocomposites in the forms of homogeneous nanofibers (E1), spindles-on-a-string (E2), and beads-on-a-string (E3) were prepared using electrospinning with ketoprofen (KET) as the model drug and a mixture of ethylcellulose (EC) and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) as the polymeric matrices. Controllable preparation mechanisms of these morphologies are disclosed based on the results of SEM, TEM, and processes observations. XRD and FTIR data demonstrated that KET was compatible with PVP and EC. In vitro dissolution tests verified that all the three nanocomposites were able to provide the typical bi-stage fast-sustained release profiles of KET. Whereas, the beads-on-a-string E3 had a better functional performance than the spindles-on-a-string E2, and the homogeneous nanofibers E1 in terms of the KET sustained release profiles in the second stage. The protocols reported here pioneered a new way for developing novel functional nanocomposites based on the process-shape-performance relationship.

Water stability is one of the most important factors restricting the practical application of metal organic frameworks (MOFs). In this work, we fabricate a highly defective HKUST-1 framework with a mixed valence of CuI/CuII by mechanical ball milling method. This defective HKUST-1 is embellished by functionalized ionic liquids as hydrophobic armor, making the hybrid HIL1@HKUST-1 exhibits outstanding water stability, remarkable SO2 adsorption (up to 5.71 mmol g−1), and record-breaking selectivity (1070 for SO2/CO2 and 31,515 for SO2/N2) at 25 °C and 0.1 bar, even in wet conditions.

Abstract Ceria (CeO2) is a widely used oxide catalyst, yet the nature of its active sites remains elusive. This study combines model and powder catalyst studies to elucidate the structure-activity relationships in ceria-catalyzed CO activation and hydrogenation. Well-defined ceria clusters are synthesized on planar CeO2(111) and exhibit dynamic and tunable ranges of Ce coordination numbers, which enhance their interaction with CO. Reduced ceria clusters (e.g., Ce3O3) bind CO strongly and facilitate its dissociation, while near-stoichiometric clusters (e.g., Ce3O7) adsorb CO weakly and promote oxidation via carbonate formation. Unlike planar ceria surfaces, supported ceria clusters exhibit dynamic properties and enhanced catalytic activity, that mimic those of powder ceria catalysts. Insight from model studies provide a method to quantify active sites on powder ceria and guide further optimization of ceria catalysts for syngas conversion. This work marks a leap toward model-guided catalyst design and highlights the importance of site-specific catalysis.

Abstract The interaction between diet and the immune system has garnered considerable attention, especially regarding the immunomodulatory effects of food‐derived peptides. These peptides, derived from dietary proteins, exhibit diverse mechanisms of action, influencing cytokine production, immune cell function, and gut barrier integrity. Although there are numerous in vitro and animal studies supporting its therapeutic potential in immune‐related diseases, clinical relevance requires further investigation. This review synthesizes current knowledge on food‐derived peptides as immunomodulators, highlighting clinical insights and discussing challenges in their application. Additionally, it expands beyond peptides to encompass various dietary compounds influencing immune function. By integrating structural and functional diversity, this review provides a comprehensive understanding of how nutrition shapes immune responses, offering insights for personalized health strategies.

Objectives Cervical spondylosis may lead to changes in the sagittal parameters of the neck and trigger compensatory alterations in systemic sagittal parameters. However, there is currently a dearth of comparative research on the changes and compensatory alterations to sagittal parameters resulting from different types of cervical spondylosis. This study compared the preoperative sagittal alignment sequences among patients with cervical spondylotic radiculopathy (CSR), ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL), and cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM) caused by factors resulting from non‐OPLL factors. Materials and Methods Full length lateral X‐ray of the spine and cervical computed tomography (CT) of 256 patients (134 men, 122 women; mean age, 56.9 ± 9.5 years) were analyzed retrospectively. A total of 4096 radiomics features were measured through the lateral X‐ray by two spinal surgeons with extensive experience. The clinical symptoms measures were the Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) score, number of hand actions in 10 s, hand‐grip strength, visual analog scale (VAS) score. Normally distributed data was compared using one‐way analysis of variance (ANOVA) for parametric variables and χ2 test were used to analyze the categorical data. Abstract Surgical resection remains the primary treatment modality for glioblastoma (GBM); however, the infiltrative nature of GBM margins complicates achieving complete tumor removal. Additionally, the blood-brain barrier (BBB) poses a formidable challenge to effective probe delivery, thereby hindering precise imaging-guided surgery. Here, we introduce hybrid cell membrane-coated indocyanine green (ICG) liposomes (HM-Lipo-ICG) as biomimetic near-infrared (NIR) fluorescent probes for targeted BBB penetration and accurate delineation of infiltrative GBM margins. HM-Lipo-ICG encapsulates clinically approved ICG within its core and utilizes a hybrid cell membrane exterior, enabling specific targeting and enhanced BBB permeation. Quantitative assessments demonstrate that HM-Lipo-ICG achieves BBB penetration efficiency 2.8 times higher than conventional ICG liposomes. Mechanistically, CD44 receptor-mediated endocytosis facilitates BBB translocation of HM-Lipo-ICG. Furthermore, HM-Lipo-ICG enables high-contrast NIR imaging, achieving a signal-to-background ratio of 6.5 in GBM regions of an orthotopic glioma mouse model, thereby improving tumor margin detection accuracy fourfold (84.4% vs. 22.7%) compared to conventional ICG liposomes. Application of HM-Lipo-ICG facilitates fluorescence-guided precision surgery, resulting in complete resection of GBM cells. This study underscores the potential of hybrid cell membrane-coated liposomal probes in precisely visualizing and treating infiltrative GBM margins. Graphical abstract

Abstract In this study, the chloride ion (Cl−) binding rate of sulfoaluminate cement (SAC) mortars containing different mineral admixtures was investigated. This is essential to improve the durability of concrete structures in high Cl− environments, especially where they are susceptible to Cl− attack such as coastlines and marine structures. The effects of Cl− concentration, curing age, and the type and amount of mineral admixture on the Cl− binding rate of SAC mortars were analyzed. It was found that the content of water-soluble Cl− in SAC mortars decreased with the increase of curing age, while the Cl− binding ratio increased accordingly, indicating that its resistance to internal Cl− permeation increased. The addition of fly ash (FA) and ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS) can significantly improve the Cl− binding rate of SAC mortars, and the Cl− binding rate increases to 46.6% with 20% of FA and 38.7% with 40% of GGBS. The effects of mineral admixtures on the microstructure and phase composition of SAC mortars were further investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. The results showed that the addition of FA and GGBS promoted the formation of C-S-H (calcium silicate hydrate) gels and improved the resistance of SAC mortars to Cl− penetration. On the other hand, the excessive addition of silica fume (SF) decreased the Cl− binding rate, whereas a moderate amount of limestone powder (LP) improved the Cl− binding rate. The study of the Cl− binding rate of SAC mortars can help to evaluate their resistance to Cl− erosion in real projects, thus guiding the optimization of concrete formulations and the improvement of durability.

Abstract Candida tropicalis (C. tropicalis) is a zoonotic pathogen that is widespread in the environment and in recent years an increasing number of dairy cows have been infected with the fungus causing mastitis in cows.In this study, 37 milk samples from the udders of cows with clinical mastitis were collected from a dairy farm in Guangxi Province, China, from which C. tropicalis was isolated and identified, and then the isolated fungi were subjected to genome frame map sequencing, genome functional analysis as well as comparative genome analysis of the sequencing results, and combined with the virulence test of the fungi and drug sensitivity test of the fungi determined in infected mice, the resistance genes and pathogenicity of the fungi were Analysis of resistance genes and pathogenicity.Our study results revealed the isolation and characterisation of C. tropicalis from diseased cows, with a genome length of approximately 14.27 Mb. Functional annotation of the genome identified 4068 genes associated with C. tropicalis. The strain exhibited a chemoresistance mutation in the gene cyp51,a virulence-enhancing mutation in the gene VTC4, and mutations in genes linked to drug resistance. Pathogenicity tests demonstrated that C. tropicalis could induce damage to the internal organs of mice, leading to different levels of cyanosis in the abdominal cavity, white necrotic foci on the surface of internal organs, lung hemorrhage, and enlargement of the spleen and thymus.Histological sections also revealed varying degrees of hemorrhage and degenerative changes in the cells of different organs in the mice. Drug sensitivity tests showed that the fungus was highly sensitive to nystatin and ketoconazole, moderately sensitive to amphotericin B, and insensitive to antibiotics such as itraconazole, gentamicin, and penicillin. In conclusion, C. tropicalis isolated from dairy cows in the Guangxi region in this study was pathogenic and resistant to azoles such as itraconazole and fluconazole, and this study provides a theoretical basis for the further screening of novel resistance genes in C. tropicalis, as well as providing a certain reference for the drugs used for the treatment of fungal cow mastitis in this region.

Abstract Graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) has gained increasing attention in artificial photosynthesis of H2O2, yet its performance is hindered by sluggish oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) kinetics and short excited-state electron lifetimes. Here we show a B-doped g-C3N4 (BCN) tailored with coordinatively unsaturated FeOOH and CoO x clusters for H2O2 photosynthesis from water and oxygen without sacrificial agents. The optimal material delivers a 30-fold activity enhancement compared with g-C3N4 under visible light, with a solar-to-chemical conversion efficiency of 0.75%, ranking among the forefront of reported g-C3N4-based photocatalysts. Additionally, an electron transfer efficiency reaches 34.1% for the oxygen reduction reaction as revealed by in situ microsecond transient absorption spectroscopy. Experimental and theoretical results reveal that CoO x initiates hole–water oxidation and prolongs the electron lifetime, whereas FeOOH accepts electrons and promotes oxygen activation. Intriguingly, the key to the direct one-step two-electron reaction pathway for H2O2 production lies in coordinatively unsaturated FeOOH to adjust the Pauling-type adsorption configuration of O2 to stabilize peroxide species and restrain the formation of superoxide radicals.

Along the hollow stay lane roadside filling body is divided into letting pressure layer and compression layer, letting pressure layer material should have the characteristics of large deformation, slow down the violent activities of the basic roof rock beam. The compressive layer material should be characterised by high strength and rigidity, and effective control of the overlying rock beams should be achieved after flexible letting pressure. Therefore, this paper analyzes the mechanical properties of different ratios of yield layer and compressive layer materials, and analyzes the microstructure of the control group and optimization group of yield layer and compressive layer by scanning electron microscope ( SEM ). Finally, the optimal ratio of yield layer and compressive layer is tested. The results of the study showed that the optimum ratio of the material for letting the compaction layer was 1.5:1 for the water-cement ratio, 0.06% for the blowing agent dosage and 0.2% for the fibre dosage. The compressive strength of the optimised group reached 8.84 MPa at 28 d. Strain at different ages was 1.8 to 2.6 times higher in the optimised group than in the control group. The compressive layer material ratio of 40% fine gangue rate, slurry mass concentration of 78%, cement dosage of 20% is optimal, the average compressive strength of 13.21 MPa, tensile strength of 0.97 MPa, modulus of elasticity of 0.75 GPa, the angle of internal friction of 26°, cohesion of 2.85 MPa. The filler at this ratio showed a gradual increase in strength with the increase in cement dosage in the later stages. When the yield layer accounts for 10%−20% of the composite specimen, it has good yield capacity and certain key bearing capacity. The research results provide a reference for the material ratio of roadside filling body in gob-side entry retaining.

Abstract Background The long-term impacts of COVID-19 on human health are a major concern, yet comprehensive evaluations of its effects on various health conditions are lacking. Methods This study aims to evaluate the role of various diseases in relation to COVID-19 by analyzing genetic data from a large-scale population over 2,000,000 individuals. A bidirectional two-sample Mendelian randomization approach was used, with exposures including COVID-19 susceptibility, hospitalization, and severity, and outcomes encompassing 86 different diseases or traits. A reverse Mendelian randomization analysis was performed to assess the impact of these diseases on COVID-19. Results Our analysis identified causal relationships between COVID-19 susceptibility and several conditions, including breast cancer (OR = 1.0073, 95% CI = 1.0032–1.0114, p = 5 × 10 − 4), ER + breast cancer (OR = 0.5252, 95% CI = 0.3589–0.7685, p = 9 × 10 − 4), and heart failure (OR = 1.0026, 95% CI = 1.001–1.0042, p = 0.002). COVID-19 hospitalization was causally linked to heart failure (OR = 1.0017, 95% CI = 1.0006–1.0028, p = 0.002) and Alzheimer’s disease (OR = 1.5092, 95% CI = 1.1942–1.9072, p = 0.0006). COVID-19 severity had causal effects on primary biliary cirrhosis (OR = 2.6333, 95% CI = 1.8274–3.7948, p = 2.059 × 10 − 7), celiac disease (OR = 0.0708, 95% CI = 0.0538–0.0932, p = 9.438 × 10–80), and Alzheimer’s disease (OR = 1.5092, 95% CI = 1.1942–1.9072, p = 0.0006). Reverse MR analysis indicated that rheumatoid arthritis, diabetic nephropathy, multiple sclerosis, and total testosterone (female) influence COVID-19 outcomes. We assessed heterogeneity and horizontal pleiotropy to ensure result reliability and employed the Steiger directionality test to confirm the direction of causality. Conclusions This study provides a comprehensive analysis of the causal relationships between COVID-19 and diverse health conditions. Our findings highlight the long-term impacts of COVID-19 on human health, emphasizing the need for continuous monitoring and targeted interventions for affected individuals. Future research should explore these relationships to develop comprehensive healthcare strategies.

Nowadays there has been a substantial escalation in the consumption of the global annual mortality rate due to cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, and the traditional stainless-steel materials used for interventional treatments are sometimes unsuitable for thinner vascular walls. Hence it is imperative to undertake a comprehensive analysis of novel materials in the field of vascular intervention, and NiTi alloys are one of the best materials among them. NiTi alloys are the shape-memory alloys that undergo a phase transformation under certain temperatures and pressures. Owing to its shape memory effect and superelastic properties, it is extensively utilized in the medical filed, representing a future direction for smart materials. As the field of medical intervention evolves, the advantages of NiTi alloys in vascular interventional medical devices are increasingly recognized due to their superior performance, garnering widespread attention. As a result, analyzing their medical applications is required in order to promote interdisciplinary integration. This review summarizes the structural properties, preparation methods, and application areas of NiTi alloys as medical devices for vascular interventions. It also analyzes the properties of NiTi alloys when used as stents or guidewires in specific scenarios, and discusses the current shortcomings, future development directions and application prospects.

Nuclear energy is essential for the future development of countries. However, both structural and functional components of nuclear power equipment are facing severe challenges of nuclear irradiation damage after experiencing irradiation growth and irradiation creep. How to avoid irradiation damage to nuclear power equipment has become a hotspot in international research and development of surface protection technology. Deposition of protective coatings on the underlying object surface or in bulk materials has been considered as a near-term solution to enhanc functional components. Different substrate materials are selected according to other service conditions within the reactor. Suitable material selection combined with relevant optimization can significantly increase the service life of materials. This review summarizes recent research on several categories of anti-irradiation coatings prepared by physical vapor deposition technology for current industrial applications. These includes metallic, ceramic, composite and high entropy alloy coatings. The review endeavors to impart a thorough understanding of the properties of these selected anti-irradiation coatings, from the fundamental aspects of their substrate materials to their practical applications across diverse settings. It explores not only the current research progress but also the potential avenues for future advancements. Additionally, the intricate relationships between coating formulations, their resistance to irradiation, and their ultimate performance in various environments are illuminated in this paper.

Abstract Despite therapeutic improvements in prostate cancer treatment, the recurrence and mortality rates are still high, and the underlying mechanisms still need further study. Non‐SMC Condensin II Complex Subunit D3 (NCAPD3) is a subunit of condensin II complex, mainly involved in the mitotic chromosome condensation of cells. This study aimed to figure out the detailed mechanisms by which NCAPD3 contributed to prostate cancer development. Clinical samples and cell lines were used to measure the expression of genes by quantitative real‐time RT‐PCR (qRT‐PCR), Western‐blot assay (WB), immunohistochemistry (IHC), and immunofluorescence (IF). Chromatin immunoprecipitation quantitative PCR (ChIP‐qPCR) and dual‐luciferase reporter assays were examined to explore the interplays between molecules. CCK8, transwell, and wound‐healing assays were applied to perform cell proliferation and migration. A subcutaneous tumor xenograft model was constructed by injecting DU145‐Lv‐NCAPD3 cells and control cells into male BALB/c nude mice to confirm the result derived from in vitro assay. NCAPD3 increased STAT3 expression and phosphorylation in PCa cells, thereby enhancing STAT3 transcriptional activity to improve the levels of JAK2 and EZH2. This led to an increase in phosphorylation of AKT at Thr 308 and Ser 473 through JAK2/PI3K and EZH2/NSD2/mTORC2 pathways, respectively. Moreover, there was a positive mutual activation between STAT3 and JAK2, further enhanced by NCAPD3 to promote PCa progression. NCAPD3, as an oncogene, promoted PCa progression by phosphorylating and activating AKT, which suggests a novel functional pathway of NCAPD3 in promoting PCa progression.

In order to improve the quality of neutron data for 238U in CENDL, considering the impact of new measurements, a brand-new evaluation of the complete set of neutron induced 238U reaction data up to 20 MeV has been performed. Important reactions, such as (n,tot), (n,γ), (n,f), (n,2n) and (n,3n) reaction cross sections and average number of fission neutrons have been evaluated based on experimental data analysis. Also, using existing optical model potential parameters, new theoretical calculations based on Hauser-Feshbach and pre-equilibrium model have been carried out. Resonance parameters and prompt fission neutron spectrum from ENDF/B-VIII.0 have been adopted. Guided by integral benchmark, (n,inl), (n,γ) and (n,f) reaction cross sections have undergone multiple adjustments, leading to a noticeable improvement in data quality, as indicated by final benchmark results.

Nitrate (NO3−) pollution in groundwater is a worldwide environmental issue, particularly in developed planting-breeding areas where there is a substantial presence of nitrogen-related sources. Here, we explored the key sources and potential health risks of NO3− in a typical planting-breeding area in the North China Plain based on dual stable isotopes and Monte Carlo simulations. The analysis results revealed that the NO3− concentration ranged from 0.02 to 44.6 mg/L, with a mean value of 7.54 mg/L, along with a significant spatial variability. Analysis by combining stable isotopes (δ15N-NO3− and δ18O-NO3−) with the Bayesian isotope mixing model (MixSIAR) revealed that soil N (60.3 %) and manure and sewage (35.9 %) contributed the most NO3− in groundwater, followed by chemical N fertilizer (2.9 %) and atmospheric N deposition (0.8 %). However, the contribution of N fertilizer may be underestimated because it has undergone a long-term applied history and have progressively accumulated in the soil, and then promoted the entry of groundwater under frequent rainfall and irrigation practices. From the probabilistic health risk assessment, a relatively low probability of exceeding the threshold (HI=1) was observed (0.2 % for adults and 2.59 % for children); nevertheless, children still face some nonnegligible risk, particularly for the oral ingestion of drinking water at high-pollution sites. Therefore, we highlight the importance of effective management of manure and sewage from breeding plants and reduction of chemical N fertilizer usage are suggested in developed agricultural areas.

ObjectivesSERINC2 has been associated with alcoholism, bipolar disorder and autism, but the comparability and specificity issues of the findings remain unaddressed. The present study aimed to comprehensively analyze various neuropsychiatric disorders pinpoint the most reliable conditions predisposed by SERINC2.MethodsA total of 2,187 imputed SNPs across SERINC2 were examined in 1,167,439 subjects from 72 independent cohorts with 18 different neuropsychiatric disorders. SNP-disease associations were tested and then meta-analyzed, followed by FDR correction, to identify significant disease-risk SNPs. Finally, functional studies on the differential SERINC2 mRNA expression in brains and the potential regulatory effects of disease-risk alleles on SERINC2 mRNA expression, gray matter volumes (GMVs) of subcortical structures, cortical surface area (SA) and average thickness (TH) were conducted.ResultsIn European descent, alcoholism was most significantly associated with SERINC2 variants (245 SNPs with 5.5×10-8≤p ≤ 0.049 and 4.9×10-5≤q ≤ 0.034) that were largely shared across cocaine dependence, marijuana dependence, nicotine dependence, polysubstance dependence, schizophrenia, OCD, and autism (8.2×10-8≤p ≤ 0.050 and 1.9×10-5≤q ≤ 0.049); in Chinese population, bipolar disorder was also significantly associated with SERINC2 variants (10 SNPs: 1.3×10-4≤p ≤ 4.7×10-4 and 0.025≤q ≤ 0.031). Furthermore, the disease-risk alleles had highly similar regulatory effects on mRNA expression (8.1×10-7≤p ≤ 0.046), subcortical GMVs (7.0×10-4≤p ≤ 0.048) and cortical TH and SA (1.3×10-3≤p ≤ 0.050) in brains across alcoholism, schizophrenia, OCD and autism. The bipolar disorder-risk alleles had these regulatory effects but with different effect patterns. Finally, SERINC2 mRNA was differentially expressed in several brain regions between alcoholism or schizophrenia and controls.ConclusionSERINC2 is primarily linked to substance use disorders, schizophrenia, OCD, autism and bipolar disorder, not only statistically but also biologically.

Accurate building segmentation has become critical in various fields such as urban management, urban planning, mapping, and navigation. With the increasing diversity in the number, size, and shape of buildings, convolutional neural networks have been used to segment and extract buildings from such images, resulting in increased efficiency and utilization of image features. We propose a building semantic segmentation method to improve the traditional Unet convolutional neural network by integrating attention mechanism and boundary detection. The attention mechanism module combines attention in the channel and spatial dimensions. The module captures image feature information in the channel dimension using a one-dimensional convolutional cross-channel method and automatically adjusts the cross-channel dimension using adaptive convolutional kernel size. Additionally, a weighted boundary loss function is designed to replace the traditional semantic segmentation cross-entropy loss to detect the boundary of a building. The loss function optimizes the extraction of building boundaries in backpropagation, ensuring the integrity of building boundary extraction in the shadow part. Experimental results show that the proposed model AMBDNet achieves high-performance metrics, including a recall rate of 0.9046, an IoU of 0.7797, and a pixel accuracy of 0.9140 on high-resolution remote sensing images, demonstrating its robustness and effectiveness in precise building segmentation. Experimental results further indicate that AMBDNet improves the single-class recall of buildings by 0.0322 and the single-class pixel accuracy by 0.0169 in the high-resolution remote sensing image recognition task.

BackgroundEpstein-Barr virus-associated hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (EBV-HLH) is a severe hyperinflammatory disorder induced by overactivation of macrophages and T cells. This study aims to identify the risk factors for the progression from infectious mononucleosis (EBV-IM) to EBV-HLH, by analyzing the laboratory parameters of patients with EBV-IM and EBV-HLH and constructing a clinical prediction model. The outcome of this study carries important clinical value for early diagnosis and treatment of EBV-HLH.MethodsA retrospective analysis was conducted on 60 patients diagnosed with EBV-HLH and 221 patients diagnosed with EBV-IM at our hospital between November 2018 and January 2024. Participants were randomly assigned to derivation and internal validation cohorts in a 7:3 ratio. LASSO regression and logistic regression analyses were employed to identify risk factors and construct the nomogram.ResultsFerritin (OR, 213.139; 95% CI, 8.604-5279.703; P=0.001), CD3-CD16+CD56+% (OR, 0.011; 95% CI, 0-0.467; P=0.011), anti-EBV-NA-IgG (OR, 57.370; 95%CI, 2.976-1106.049; P=0.007), IL-6 (OR, 71.505; 95%CI, 2.118-2414.288; P=0.017), IL-10 (OR, 213.139; 95% CI, 8.604-5279.703; P=0.001) were identified as independent predictors of EBV-HLH. The prediction model demonstrated excellent discriminatory capability evidenced by an AUC of 0.997 (95% CI,0.993-1.000). When visualized using a nomogram, the ROC curves for the derivation and validation cohorts exhibited AUCs of 0.997 and 0.993, respectively. These results suggested that the model was highly stable and accurate. Furthermore, calibration curves and clinical decision curves indicated that the model possessed good calibration and offered significant clinical benefits.ConclusionsThe nomogram, which was based on these five predictors, exhibited robust predictive value and stability, thereby can be used to aid clinicians in the early detection of EBV-HLH.

The large quantity of coal gangue will become an increasingly serious part of environmental pollution. However, it can be aggregated with water and fly ash to form a slurry with a stabile rheology that can be used to fill underground mining areas to reduce environmental pollution. In this study, an orthogonal test scheme was formulated, and the significance of the influence of test factors on the test index was judged using variance analysis and range analysis. By analyzing the effects of mass concentration, fly ash percentage, and aggregate grade on the rheology and stability of the slurry, a fill slurry that meets the requirements of reasonable indexes was developed. Finally, the diffusion effect of the prepared slurry was explored using a simulation. The results show that the mass concentration had the strongest effect on the plastic viscosity, yield stress, extensibility, water secretion rate, and segregation rate of the gangue slurry. The effect of aggregate gradation on the yield stress, water secretion rate, and segregation rate of slurry was stronger than that of the fly ash content, while the effect of the fly ash content on the plastic viscosity and extensibility of the slurry was stronger than that of the aggregate gradation. With the increase in mass concentration and the content of fine particles in the aggregate, the plastic viscosity of the slurry increased, the slump extension decreased, and the fluidity decreases while the yield stress increased, the water secretion rate and segregation rate decreased, and the stability increased. The optimal ratio of the slurry was determined to be 70 % mass concentration, 10 % fly ash, and an aggregate grading consisting of 80.34 % 0–1 mm particles, 12.95 % 1–3 mm particles, and 6.71 % 3–5 mm particles. The flow and diffusion effect of the optimized gangue slurry in the mining area was observed through an image and stress data acquisition system, and it was determined that the slurry could well be filled into the rock voids in the mining area. The results of the study can provide some theoretical basis for the preparation of slurry to fill hollow zones.

The consumption of high-fat diets (HFD) and an imbalance in gut microbiome are linked to obesity. However, the intricate connection between them and the underlying mechanisms involved in lipid digestion and absorption remain largely unclear. This study shows that after 12 weeks of HFD feeding, C57BL/6J mice exhibit two distinct metabolic phenotypes with significant differences in gut microbiota composition. The LOW and LOW FMT group mice with increased Bacteroides are protected from obesity, insulin resistance, and lipid accumulation. Supplementation with B. vulgatus or cholic acid (CA) alleviates HFD-induced obesity and metabolic dysfunction. This is due to the accumulation of lipid droplets and the retention of chyle particles in jejunal epithelial cells, which reduces chyle intake in the jejunal mesentery after HFD. Decreased 5-HT synthesis in the jejunal enterochromaffin cells of these mice, along with reduced chyle intake in the jejunal mesentery after HFD in Tph1△IEC, suggests that intestinal 5-HT is required for host lipid absorption. TRPV1, a calcium-permeable ion channel, mediates the basolateral 5-HT-induced increase of Isc and ion channel open probability. This study uncovers a novel signaling axis of microbiota-metabolite-5-HT and intracellular calcium-dependent lipid absorption, which may serve as the potential therapeutic targets for treating HFD-induced obesity.

Background: Preliminary evidence provides support for the proposition that there is a dissociative subtype of Complex posttraumatic stress disorder (CPTSD). Research on this proposition would extend our knowledge on the association between CPTSD and dissociation, guide contemporary thinking regarding placement of dissociation in the nosology of CPTSD, and inform clinically useful assessment and intervention.Objectives: The present study aimed to investigate the co-occurring patterns of CPTSD and dissociative symptoms in a large sample of trauma exposed adolescents from China, and specify clinical features covariates of such patterns including childhood trauma, comorbidities with major depressive disorder (MDD) and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), and functional impairment.Methods: Participants included 57,984 high school students exposed to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. CPTSD and dissociative symptoms, childhood traumatic experience, and functional impairment were measured with the Global Psychotrauma Screen for Teenagers (GPS-T). Major depressive disorder (MDD) and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) symptoms were measured with the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) and the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7), respectively. Latent class analysis (LCA) was employed to test the co-occurring patterns of CPTSD and dissociative symptoms. Analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) and chi-square tests were respectively used to examine between-class differences in continuous and categorical clinical covariates.Results: A 5-class model emerged as the best-fitting model, including resilience, predominantly PTSD symptoms, predominantly disturbances in self-organization (DSO)symptoms, predominantly CPTSD symptoms, and CPTSD dissociative subtype classes. The CPTSD dissociative subtype class showed the lowest level of functioning and the highest rates of MDD, GAD and childhood trauma.Conclusions: Our findings provide initial empirical evidence supporting the existence of a dissociative subtype of CPTSD, and inform for further research and clinical practice on traumatized individuals.

Objectives: To investigate the role of the intestinal flora and metabolites in the development of hyperuricemic renal injury in chronic kidney disease (CKD).Methods: Unilaterally nephrectomized mice were fed with adenine and potassium oxonate for 9 weeks. HE staining combined with plasma biochemical indicators was used to evaluate renal pathological and functional changes. We conducted 16S rRNA sequencing and untargeted metabolomics on feces and plasma samples to reveale changes in intestinal microbiota and metabolites.Result: Our analysis revealed significant differences in 15 bacterial genera, with 7 being upregulated and 8 being downregulated. Furthermore, metabolomic analysis revealed changes in the distribution of amino acid and biotin metabolites in basic metabolic pathways in both feces and serum. Specifically, differentially abundant metabolites in feces were associated primarily with histidine metabolism; the biosynthesis of phenylalanine, tyrosine, and tryptophan; and tyrosine metabolism. In plasma, the differentially abundant metabolites were involved in multiple metabolic pathways, including aminoacyl-tRNA biosynthesis; glycine, serine, and threonine amino acid metabolism; valine, leucine, and isoleucine biosynthesis; tyrosine biosynthesis and metabolism; biotin metabolism; and taurine and hypotaurine metabolism. Furthermore, correlation analysis revealed that Akkermansia, UCG-005, Lachnospiraceae_NK4A136_group, Lactococcus, and Butymonas were associated with various differentially abundant metabolites as well as renal function, oxidative stress, and mitophagy. The changes in the intestinal flora observed in hyperuricemia may lead to imbalances in amino acid and biotin metabolism in both the intestine and host, ultimately affecting oxidative stress and mitophagy in mice and accelerating the progression of CKD.Conclusion: Our findings provide insights into a potential pathogenic mechanism by which hyperuricemia exacerbates renal injury in mice with renal insufficiency. Understanding these pathways may offer new therapeutic strategies for managing hyperuricemic renal injury in CKD patients.

In order to reduce antibiotic application in aquaculture, an antimicrobial peptide anti-lipopolysaccharide factor isoform 3 (ALFPm3) with highly effective inhibitory activity against pathogens was introduced to bay scallop (Argopecten irradians) using bait microalga Tetraselmis subcordiformis as a delivery system. To improve its expression and stability, a fusion of two alfpm3 genes (alfpm3–2) was inserted into an expression vector and transformed into T. subcordiformis chloroplast, followed by in vitro and in vivo functional evaluations of the antimicrobial activities of ALFPm3–2 by minimum inhibitory concentration method and bay scallop breeding experiment, respectively. The results showed that the transformants of T. subcordiformis and the purified ALFPm3–2 had significant inhibitory effects on Vibrio parahaemolyticus and Staphylococcus aureus in vitro, while feeding the transformants reduced the colonization of the two pathogens in bay scallops, which further reduced bay scallops’ mortality by 28.67 % as revealed in infection test. Furthermore, daily oral administration of ALFPm3–2 could improve the gut microbial community and reduce the inflammatory response. Combined with changes in immune factors and endotoxin, it indicated that exogenous ALFPm3–2 played antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory functions in the guts of bay scallops. Overall, this study provided strong evidence to support the oral administration of antimicrobial peptides via microalgae in aquaculture.

Analyzing spatiotemporal patterns of dryness/wetness is important for measures and strategy development for the resulting disasters. This research explores projected dryness/wetness patterns and influence factors in China under two Shared Socioeconomic Pathway (SSP)-based scenarios (SSP245 and SSP585). The dryness/wetness is evaluated by a non-parameter Standardized Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index, and the influence is analyzed by the GeoDetector method. The result shows that under SSP245, dryness is more likely to increase in autumn. It is primarily located in North-China, South-China, and Middle-lower Yangtze in summer and autumn and in South-China and Huang-Huai-Hai in other seasons. Wetness is more likely to be enhanced in winter, and simultaneous precipitation has more influence, especially in semiarid regions. Under SSP585, the dryness is enhanced throughout China except in winter, and the wetness is enhanced except in autumn. The enhanced wetness in spring and winter is located in North-China and in summer in Southwest China. Temperature has a greater influence in spring and autumn, and precipitation has a greater influence in winter on dryness. The interaction influence is enhanced in almost all regions and seasons under two scenarios. The results could be useful for land managers to develop strategies and mitigate the effects of climate change.

Abstract Designing highly active and stable catalytic sites is often challenging due to the complex synthesis procedure and the agglomeration of active sites during high-temperature reactions. Here, we report a facile two-step method to synthesize Pt clusters confined by In-modified ZSM-5 zeolite. In-situ characterization confirms that In is located at the extra-framework position of ZSM-5 as In+, and the Pt clusters are stabilized by the In-ZSM-5 zeolite. The resulting Pt clusters confined in In-ZSM-5 show excellent propane conversion, propylene selectivity, and catalytic stability, outperforming monometallic Pt, In, and bimetallic PtIn alloys. The incorporation of In+ in ZSM-5 neutralizes Brønsted acid sites to inhibit side reactions, as well as tunes the electronic properties of Pt clusters to facilitate propane activation and propylene desorption. The strategy of combining precious metal clusters with metal cation-exchanged zeolites opens the avenue to develop stable heterogeneous catalysts for other reaction systems.

Abstract LiNi0.8Mn0.1Co0.1O2 (NMC811) is a popular cathode material for Li-ion batteries, yet degradation and side reactions at the cathode-electrolyte interface pose significant challenges to their long-term cycling stability. Coating LiNixMnyCo1−x−yO2 (NMC) with refractory materials has been widely used to improve the stability of the cathode-electrolyte interface, but mixed results have been reported for Al2O3 coatings of the Ni-rich NMC811 materials. To elucidate the role and effect of the Al2O3 coating, we have coated commercial-grade NMC811 electrodes with Al2O3 by the atomic layer deposition (ALD) technique. Through a systematic investigation of the long-term cycling stability at different upper cutoff voltages, the stability against ambient storage, the rate capability, and the charger transfer kinetics, our results show no significant differences between the Al2O3-coated and the bare (uncoated) electrodes. This highlights the contentious role of Al2O3 coating on Ni-rich NMC cathodes and calls into question the benefits of coating on commercial-grade electrodes.

Abstract Background To identify the cut-off values for the number of metastatic lymph nodes (nMLN) and lymph node ratio (LNR) that can predict outcomes in patients with FIGO 2018 IIICp cervical cancer (CC). Methods Patients with CC who underwent radical hysterectomy with pelvic lymphadenectomy were identified for a propensity score-matched (PSM) cohort study. A receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was performed to determine the critical nMLN and LNR values. Five-year overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) rates were compared using Kaplan–Meier and Cox proportional hazard regression analyses. Results This study included 3,135 CC patients with stage FIGO 2018 IIICp from 47 Chinese hospitals between 2004 and 2018. Based on ROC curve analysis, the cut-off values for nMLN and LNR were 3.5 and 0.11, respectively. The final cohort consisted of nMLN ≤ 3 (n = 2,378) and nMLN > 3 (n = 757) groups and LNR ≤ 0.11 (n = 1,748) and LNR > 0.11 (n = 1,387) groups. Significant differences were found in survival between the nMLN ≤ 3 vs the nMLN > 3 (post-PSM, OS: 76.8% vs 67.9%, P = 0.003; hazard ratio [HR]: 1.411, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.108–1.798, P = 0.005; DFS: 65.5% vs 55.3%, P 0.11 (post-PSM, OS: 82.5% vs 76.9%, P = 0.010; HR: 1.407, 95% CI: 1.103–1.794, P = 0.006; DFS: 72.8% vs 65.1%, P = 0.002; HR: 1.347, 95% CI: 1.110–1.633, P = 0.002) groups. Conclusions This study found that nMLN > 3 and LNR > 0.11 were associated with poor prognosis in CC patients.

Three new species belonging to Basidiomycota from southwestern China are described based on morphological and molecular data. Campanophyllum microsporum is morphologically characterized by dorsally pseudostipitate, pale orange to brownish orange pileus, excentric to lateral pseudostipe, crowded lamellae, cylindrical-ellipsoid basidiospores 3.0–4.2 × 1.7–2.2 µm, narrowly clavate to clavate basidia 14.5–23.0 × 3.0–4.2 µm, and cylindrical to clavate cheilocystidia 22.0–55.0 × 5.0–10.8 µm. Calocera multiramosa is morphologically characterized by stipitate, yellowish to orange, dendroid, and dichotomously branched basidiomata, cylindrical to clavate basidia 36.5–52.5 × 3.8–6.1 µm, navicular or reniform, 1–5-septate mature basidiospores 10.4–16.7 × 5.2–7.4 µm. Dacrymyces naematelioides is morphologically characterized by stipitate and cerebriform, orange to light brown basidiomata, cylindrical to clavate, smooth or roughened basidia 38.5–79.5 × 6.5–10.6 µm, broadly and elliptic-fusiform, 7-septate mature basidiospores 18.5–28.6 × 8.9–13.8 µm. These three new species are supported by the phylogenetic analyses using maximum likelihood (ML) and Bayesian inference (BI) analyses with combined nuclear ribosomal DNA (rDNA) internal transcribed spacer (ITS) and large ribosomal subunit (LSU) sequences. Abstract Despite advancements in chemotherapy and the availability of novel therapies, the outcome of adult patients with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL) remains unsatisfactory. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying the progression of B-ALL. Brahma-related gene 1 (BRG1) is a poor prognostic factor for multiple cancers. Here, the expression of BRG1 was found to be higher in patients with B-ALL, irrespective of the molecular subtype, than in healthy individuals, and its overexpression was associated with a poor prognosis. Upregulation of BRG1 accelerated cell cycle progression into the S phase, resulting in increased cell proliferation, whereas its downregulation facilitated the apoptosis of B-ALL cells. Mechanistically, BRG1 occupies the transcriptional activation site of PPP2R1A, thereby inhibiting its expression and activating the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway to regulate the proto-oncogenes c-Myc and BCL-2. Consistently, silencing of BRG1 and administration of PFI-3 (a specific inhibitor targeting BRG1) significantly inhibited the progression of leukemia and effectively prolonged survival in cell-derived xenograft mouse models of B-ALL. Altogether, this study demonstrates that BRG1-induced overactivation of the PPP2R1A/PI3K/AKT signaling pathway plays an important role in promoting the progression of B-ALL. Therefore, targeting BRG1 represents a promising strategy for the treatment of B-ALL in adults.

Abstract Background The utilization of a double trigger, involving the co-administration of gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist (GnRH-a) and human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) for final oocyte maturation, is emerging as a novel approach in gonadotropin-releasing hormone antagonist (GnRH-ant) protocols during controlled ovarian hyperstimulation (COH). This protocol involves administering GnRH-a and hCG 40 and 34 h prior to ovum pick-up (OPU), respectively. This treatment modality has been implemented in patients with low/poor oocytes yield. This study aimed to determine whether the double trigger could improve the number of top-quality embryos (TQEs) in patients with fewer than three TQEs. Methods The stimulation characteristics of 35 in vitro fertilization (IVF) cycles were analyzed. These cycles were triggered by the combination of hCG and GnRHa (double trigger cycles) and compared to the same patients’ previous IVF attempt, which utilized the hCG trigger (hCG trigger control cycles). The analysis involved cases who were admitted to our reproductive center between January 2018 and December 2022. In the hCG trigger control cycles, all 35 patients had fewer than three TQEs. Results Patients who received the double trigger cycles yielded a significantly higher number of 2PN cleavage embryos (3.54 ± 3.37 vs. 2.11 ± 2.15, P = 0.025), TQEs ( 2.23 ± 2.05 vs. 0.89 ± 0.99, P

Abstract The educational environment plays a vital role in the development of students who participate in athletic pursuits both in terms of their physical health and their ability to detect fatigue. As a result of recent advancements in deep learning and biosensors benefitting from edge computing resources, we are now able to monitor the physiological fatigue of students participating in sports in real time. These devices can then be used to analyze the data using contemporary technology. In this paper, we present an innovative deep learning framework for forecasting fatigue in athletic students following physical exercise. It addresses the issue of lack of precision computational models and extensive data analysis in current approaches to monitoring students’ physical activity. In our study, we classified fatigue and non-fatigue based on photoplethysmography (PPG) signals. Several deep learning models are compared in the study. Using limited training data, determining the optimal parameters for PPG presents a significant challenge. For datasets containing many data points, several models were trained using PPG signals: a deep residual network convolutional neural network (ResNetCNN) ResNetCNN, an Xception architecture, a bidirectional long short-term memory (BILSTM), and a combination of these models. Training and testing datasets were assigned using a fivefold cross validation approach. Based on the testing dataset, the model demonstrated a proper classification accuracy of 91.8%.

Abstract Climate change is one of the biggest challenges to the world at present. Tomato is also suffered from devastating yield loss due to climate change. The domesticated tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) is presumed to be originated from the wild tomato (S. pimpinellifolium). In this study, we compared the climate data of S. pimpinellifollium with the domesticated tomato, predicted the suitable regions of S. pimpinellifollium in China using MaxEnt model and assessed their tolerance to drought stress. We found that the predicted suitable regions of wild tomato are highly consistent with the current cultivated regions of domesticated tomato, suggesting that the habitat demand of domesticated tomato descended largely from its ancestor, hence the habitat information of wild tomato could provide a reference for tomato cultivation. We further predicted suitable regions of wild tomato in the future in China. Finally, we found that while average drought tolerance between wild and domesticated tomato accessions shows no difference, tolerance levels among wild tomato accessions exhibit higher variation, which could be used for future breeding to improve drought resistance. To summarize, our study shows that suitable regions of wild tomato provide insights into domesticated tomato cultivation in China.

(♂♀), from Hunan Province, China. Detailed descriptions, photos of somatic features and copulatory organs, as well as a distribution map are provided. Abstract Temperature and humidity variations in burial stone relics can easily cause water vapor condensation, which is an important factor leading to their deterioration. However, the water vapor condensation mechanism and the evaluation of risk ratings have always been difficult problems in the protection of cultural relics. In this study, the water vapor condensation mechanism in Yang Can's tomb was comprehensively investigated through on-site monitoring, indoor experiments and software simulations, on the basis of which a physical model of water vapor condensation in this tomb was established and a water vapor condensation risk rating assessment method was proposed. The proposed method considers the difference between the dew point and wall temperatures within the tomb (dew–wall temperature difference) and the duration of water vapor condensation, and corresponding preventive and control measures were formulated for different risk ratings. The study revealed that when the wall temperature of the chamber is lower than the dew point temperature, water vapor starts to condense. The larger the dew–wall temperature difference is, the greater the risk of condensation. In addition, specific water vapor condensation prevention and control measures were proposed for Yang Can's tomb, and the prevention and control effects were simulated. The simulation results showed that favorable prevention and control effects could be achieved, and the proposed measures could be applied in practice. This study holds notable significance for investigating the water vapor condensation mechanism and evaluating the risk ratings of burial stone relics and provides a theoretical basis and reference for water vapor condensation prevention and control in burial stone relics.

Abstract. Background:. Histological healing is closely associated with improved long-term clinical outcomes and lowered relapses in patients with ulcerative colitis (UC). Here, we developed a novel diagnostic criterion for assessing histological healing in UC patients. Methods:. We conducted a retrospective cohort study in UC patients, whose treatment was iteratively optimized to achieve mucosal healing at Shanghai Tenth People’s Hospital of Tongji University from January 2017 to May 2022. We identified an inflammatory cell enumeration index (ICEI) for assessing histological healing based on the proportions of eosinophils, CD177+ neutrophils, and CD40L+ T cells in the colonic lamina propria under high power field (HPF), and the outcomes (risks of symptomatic relapses) of achieving histological remission vs. persistent histological inflammation using Kaplan–Meier curves. Intrareader reliability and inter-reader reliability were evaluated by each reader. The relationships to the changes in the Nancy index and the Geboes score were also assessed for responsiveness. The ICEI was further validated in a new cohort of UC patients from other nine university hospitals. Results:. Abstract Recent conservation efforts to protect rare and endangered aquatic species have intensified. Nevertheless, the ornate spiny lobster (Panulirus ornatus), which is prevalent in the Indo-Pacific waters, has been largely ignored. In the absence of a detailed genomic reference, the conservation and population genetics of this crustacean are poorly understood. Here, We assembled a comprehensive chromosome-level genome for P. ornatus. This genome—among the most detailed for lobsters—spans 2.65 Gb with a contig N50 of 51.05 Mb, and 99.11% of the sequences with incorporated to 73 chromosomes. The ornate spiny lobster genome comprises 65.67% repeat sequences and 22,752 protein-coding genes with 99.20% of the genes functionally annotated. The assembly of the P. ornatus genome provides valuable insights into comparative crustacean genomics and endangered species conservation, and lays the groundwork for future research on the speciation, ecology, and evolution of the ornate spiny lobster.
