1. Magnetic Field Alignment Relative to Multiple Tracers in the High-mass Star-forming Region RCW 36

Abstract

We use polarization data from SOFIA HAWC+ to investigate the interplay between magnetic fields and stellar feedback in altering gas dynamics within the high-mass star-forming region RCW 36, located in Vela C. This region is of particular interest as it has a bipolar HII region powered by a massive star cluster which may be impacting the surrounding magnetic field. To determine if this is the case, we apply the Histogram of Relative Orientations (HRO) method to quantify the relative alignment between the inferred magnetic field and elongated structures observed in several datasets such as dust emission, column density, temperature, and spectral line intensity maps. The HRO results indicate a bimodal alignment trend, where structures observed with dense gas tracers show a statistically significant preference for perpendicular alignment relative to the magnetic field, while structures probed by photo-dissociation region (PDR) tracers tend to align preferentially parallel relative to the magnetic field. Moreover, the dense gas and PDR associated structures are found to be kinematically distinct such that a bimodal alignment trend is also observed as a function of line-of-sight velocity. This suggests that the magnetic field may have been dynamically important and set a preferred direction of gas flow at the time that RCW 36 formed, resulting in a dense ridge developing perpendicular to the magnetic field. Abstract

Children and adolescents with autism have a higher likelihood of being exposed to bullying, abuse, and sexual assault which, through repeated exposure, has been demonstrated to impede academic, social, and physical functioning among this population. However, the complexity of unpacking the characteristics of autism and trauma can pose a challenge for school psychologists in using the most appropriate clinical method of intervention. This paper summarizes the co-occurrence of autism and trauma in an effort to better inform practitioners and recommends the need for valid and reliable assessments that measure adverse experiences for children with autism. A practitioner assessment guide of childhood trauma and autism spectrum disorder is also provided to facilitate a comprehensive assessment process. We conclude that there is a pressing need for more research examining the relationship between autism and trauma by better understanding the relationship of these constructs, and for the development of more effective assessments to provide more evidence-based interventions.

15. Using Evaluation Data to Inform Climate Education Practice

Abstract

A challenge for using evaluation data to improve climate change education in schools is access to an instrument for teachers to measure behavioral changes and their antecedents. We report on teachers' implementation of a brief survey measuring climate-related beliefs, self-efficacy, intention to act, action, and anxiety before and after their program of climate change education for students (aged 11-14 years, N = 62). Results indicated improvement in self-efficacy but not in students' intention to act. This prompted teaching staff to generate modifications aimed at fostering greater behavioral change, with staff discussion focused on students' emotions and revisions characterized by creative, affect-driven approaches. Our paper demonstrates how data from a reproducible evaluation tool can inform teachers' efforts to improve their practice.

39. Score Comparability between Online Proctored and In-Person Credentialing Exams

Abstract

This article studied two methods to detect mode effects in two credentialing exams. In Study 1, we used a "modal scale comparison approach," where the same pool of items was calibrated separately, without transformation, within two TC cohorts (TC1 and TC2) and one OP cohort (OP1) matched on their pool-based scale score distributions. The calibrations from all three groups were used to score the TC2 cohort, designated the validation sample. The TC1 item parameters and TC1-based thetas and pass rates were more like the native TC2 values than the OP1-based values, indicating mode effects, but the score and pass/fail decision differences were small. In Study 2, we used a "cross-modal repeater approach" in which test takers who failed their first attempt in one modality took the test again in either the same or different modality. The two pairs of repeater groups (TC [right arrow] TC: TC [right arrow] OP, and OP [right arrow] OP: OP [right arrow] TC) were matched exactly on their first attempt scores. Results showed increased pass rate and greater score variability in all conditions involving OP, with mode effects noticeable in both the TC [right arrow] OP condition and less-strongly in the OP [right arrow] TC condition. Limitations of the study and implications for exam developers were discussed.

Abstract

We present new molecular modelling for 14NO and 15NO and a deep, blind molecular line survey at low radio frequencies (99-129 MHz). This survey is the third in a series completed with the Murchison Widefield Array (MWA), but in comparison with the previous surveys, uses four times more data (17 hours vs. 4 hours) and is three times better in angular resolution (1' vs. 3'). The new molecular modelling for nitric oxide and its main isotopologue has seven transitions within the MWA frequency band (although we also present the higher frequency transitions). Although we did not detect any new molecular lines at a limit of 0.21 Jy beam^-1, this work is an important step in understanding the data processing challenges for the future Square Kilometre Array (SKA) and places solid limits on what is expected in the future of low-frequency surveys.
