Dans la lignée de travaux récents sur l'histoire des masculinités scientifiques et l'histoire sociale et culturelle des intellectuels, cet article propose une relecture des origines de la discipline historique centrée sur la partition entre espace public, monde privé et sphère professionnelle. Dès les années 1870, les ambitions nouvelles de l'histoire‐science redéfinirent en profondeur la persona savante, l'épistémologie disciplinaire et l'identité collective des historiens. Ce tournant scientifique favorisa l'institution d'un monde d'entre‐soi professionnel et masculin, précipitant ainsi la rupture avec le « grand public » profane, dont les femmes étaient l'incarnation la plus immédiate. En parallèle, ces chercheurs assignaient à l'histoire, « école du citoyen », d'importantes fonctions morales et civiques. Ainsi s'explique le discrédit jeté, en des termes charriant un profond imaginaire de genre, sur les travaux jugés trop étroitement érudits ou sur la « petite histoire », anecdotique et littéraire. Cet article met enfin en lumière la sphère privée des historiens, en insistant sur l'économie domestique du travail historiographique déployée au sein de l'espace du couple. Ces principes de vision et de division des mondes historiens ne manquent pas de générer des échos éminemment actuels, qui demeurent des objets de réflexivité collective pour la discipline d'aujourd'hui. À travers Les Mandarins, Simone de Beauvoir met en scène la crise qui touche les milieux intellectuels français derrière des personnages d’écrivains aux prises avec les dilemmes idéologiques et politiques de l’après-guerre. Ces personnages, réfléchissant à l’utilité de leurs œuvres, se posent la question fondamentale : « pourquoi / pour quoi écrire et agir ». Dans l’optique beauvoirienne, il y a deux positions : d’une part l’engagement, la nécessité de prendre conscience de la situation, d’agir ; d’autre part l’idée de l’autonomie de la littérature. De cette ambivalence résulteraient la défaite des attentes et des espoirs communs, le conformisme, la polarisation des valeurs ainsi que les échecs sentimentaux. L’histoire des « illusions brisées » de ce milieu permet à l’auteure de rendre compte de l’importance de la morale, de la responsabilité et de la présence d’autrui ainsi que de rejeter le conformisme et la crise des valeurs. La crise des Mandarins s’exprime par leur capacité à révéler le plus intime en l’accordant aux malaises d’une époque pour les transformer en urgences politiques et éthiques.

This essay identifies key ideas associated with the Russian Revolution of October 1917 and its impact over more than a century. It highlights the emancipatory impact of the Revolution in its global and long­‑term aspects, while also emphasizing its inclusion as a crucial event in the processes of writing and interpreting contemporary history. Based on the great hopes it raised and the paths it followed and disseminated, its echoes are articulated with the role of propaganda, reflection and artistic and intellectual creation, as well as with its agents, as dynamic instruments of political change, cultural transformation and the production of a socialist ideal. In connection with this process, reference is also made to the place of the public intellectual and the reformulation of the very concept of revolution in relation to historical knowledge and the impact of memory, associating it with the fruitful dimension introduced by nostalgia and utopia. The following article analyzes the way in which the complex link between intellectuals and political power influenced the design of Argentine foreign policy from 1983 to 1989, and in particular one of its main goals: to spur the country's integration with Latin America. The theory is based on the analytical categories devised by Robert Putnam, Antonio Camou, and Carlos Altamirano, to be specified as the text unfolds. In terms of methodology, primary sources are mainly articles from the Argumento Político and El Bimestre político y económico journals, as well as debates, interviews, and material from the Fondo Jorge Federico Sábato. Cet article est une réfl exion sur la question identitaire telle que portée et exprimée dans l'itinéraire historique du mouvement Présence Africaine. Il met en exergue une dimension fondamentale, voire l'essence même de l'engagement de ce mouvement, jusqu'ici non explorée. Tout en faisant redécouvrir les défi s et de grands événements quiont fait la notoriété de Présence Africaine soutenue par une revue et une maison d'édition, cette réfl exion s'articule aussi autour des débats philosophiques et théologiques au sein de ce mouvement, et se déploie par ailleurs en référence aux indépendances africaines. L'opportunité d'une telle réfl exion s'explique par le fait que la question identitaire reste un enjeu important pour les sociétés contemporaines. This article examines the issue of identity as expressed in the historical journey of the intellectual movement Présence Africaine. It highlights a fundamental dimension of the commitment of that movement not yet explored in academic research. It also deals with the identity issue through philosophical and theological debates as well as in reference to the independence era in Africa. During the 1910s and 1920s, two nautical clubs and one regatta club were opened in Florianópolis – capital of the state of Santa Catarina, in Brazil. Rowing, as a sport, began to be encouraged among the native youth. Newspapers and magazines started to interact with the public by promoting competitions and rewarding the winners of the regattas with the publication of colored photos. Poems and plays that paid tribute to both rowers and maritime disputes were written by local artists. The Clubs, which did not have the financial support of the Brazilian Confederation, promoted dancing dinners organized by the young uniformed fans. In the first half of the 20th century, in Florianópolis, rowing helped to improve sociability and created heroes who exhibited strength, beauty and discipline. So a question arises: “Why has rowing become a trend in florianopolitan society at this particular time?”. Starting from this unpretentious question and from the analysis of selected sources that reproduce countless silences, especially those concerning the theater and the women, this study was conceived in the form of short essays that narrate some of the activities that derived from the practice of rowing in Florianópolis.

The article "The Dagger in the Oppressor's Throat: Intellectuals and Political Violence in Present-Day Colombia" analyzes the role of progressive intellectuals in Colombia and their relationship with political violence from 1985 to the present. It highlights that, although there has been a decrease in the defense of violence as a creator of a new order, there has not been an absolute rejection of it. The case of Eduardo Pizarro is mentioned, who praised the FARC in a book and omitted their cruelties. It emphasizes that progressive intellectuals seek profound changes in society and consider the national past to have been a failure. The denunciations of journalists and academics regarding violence and acts of cruelty committed in Colombia are also mentioned, such as the assassination of militants and leaders of the Patriotic Union, forced disappearances, and the killings of civilians by the Armed Forces. The Colombian state is criticized for its violence, and it is argued that the fight against the guerrillas was a choice of the state, not a legal imperative. Progressive intellectuals question the legitimacy of the state and consider both the state and the guerrillas to have the same status of power. The article also analyzes the stance of Colombian intellectuals towards the armed conflict and the guerrillas in the country, highlighting that many considered the guerrillas to have a higher legitimacy than the state and advocated for negotiations with them. However, the validity of this stance is questioned, and it is pointed out that some intellectuals did not completely repudiate revolutionary violence. Additionally, it is mentioned that the public letter from some intellectuals in 1992, in which they expressed their rejection of armed struggle, was not entirely clear or self-critical. Throughout the decades, few intellectuals completely rejected political violence, although there were criticisms of the guerrillas for their disastrous results and limited vision. However, in the last thirty years, there has been an increasing number of advocates for revolutionary violence who see in it the potential to democratize the country and overcome the current order. Some intellectuals even justify or promote violence as a response to injustice, poverty, or inequality. In general, it is concluded that there has not been a widespread rejection of political violence by progressive intellectuals in the last thirty years. The article also analyzes the perception of the guerrillas in Colombia by progressive intellectuals, highlighting that despite the crimes committed by the guerrillas and their lack of popular support, intellectuals maintained an idealized view of these organizations, considering them defenders of noble ideals. The figure of Camilo Torres is also highlighted as a champion of peace and justice, despite his involvement in violent acts. Additionally, the fascination of some Colombian intellectuals with figures like Che Guevara and Fidel Castro is mentioned, despite the miseries and sufferings caused by the Cuban Revolution. The article presents different perspectives of Colombian intellectuals on the FARC and revolutionary violence in Colombia, highlighting that many rejected revolutionary violence in the 1990s but not violence itself. Some argued that the FARC sought reforms through armed struggle, while others considered them enemies of human dignity. Although the FARC no longer represents society, some intellectuals still justify insurgent violence as a means to achieve necessary changes. L’objectif de cet article est d’analyser la manière dont les intellectuels roumains en exil, en Italie, avaient des liens avec la politique étrangère et la propagande promue par les structures du régime communiste à Bucarest. La disparition progressive du modèle de type stalinien, ainsi que le socialisme nationaliste promu par Nicolae Ceauşescu après 1965, se sont également traduits par un affaiblissement de la politique et des méthodes d’approche des « ennemis du régime ». Les décrets de libération des prisonniers politiques adoptés sous la pression des puissances occidentales entre 1964 et 1965, la tentative de récupération des valeurs traditionnelles, la stratégie du Parti communiste visant à attirer des personnalités par conviction et non par contrainte, respectivement par le remplacement des méthodes générales de sécurité fondées sur le terrorisme, la détention, la persécution, le compromis ou la violence avec celles de la surveillance de l’information et du contrôle exagéré ont conduit à un « assouplissement politique et idéologique » (1965-1974) qui, corrélé à certains succès de la politique étrangère, a convaincu pendant une certaine période de temps une partie importante des personnalités de l’exil, tandis qu’une autre restait intransigeante et critique, notamment avec la politique interne du régime communiste.

The present work questions the logic and the functioning of the flows of importation in the field of literature in the second half of the 19th century, using the concept of cultural transfers, as developed by Michel Espagne and Michael Werner, along with Pierre Bourdieu's concept of the literary field. These methodological perspectives allow us to relativize the canonical vision of Georgian literature and to illuminate the role played by the importation of European works in the organization and evolution of the internal literary field. My analysis of critical discourse and of paratexts reveals how much literary transfers enabled Georgian literature to renew itself and actively participated in the configuration of the host system, while at the same time contributing to the reinforcement of the positions that structure the Georgian intellectual field of the time. This field has witnessed the arrival of a new conception of literature conveyed by the reformist intelligentsia that relegates traditional practices to the periphery of the system, and and has become divided between literature in conformity with aesthetic norms and current ideologies and the "sub-field." By clarifying the motivations that have led to the selection and interpretation of European texts and authors, I hope to offer a better comprehensive perspective on the different facets of this field and on the power relations that constitute it. Cet article porte sur le rapport entre le monde de l’édition, de la presse et la circulation des idées, faisant un rapprochement entre la formation des élites lettrées en France et en Amérique, pendant la période qui va de la publication de l’Encyclopédie de Diderot à l’engagement public des intellectuels français dans l’affaire Dreyfus (1750-1900). À partir du XVIIe siècle, dans les ouvrages lus par les érudits de la Respublica litteraria européenne, le français prit le relais du latin, désormais associé à l’Église, ce qui assura ainsi aux XVIIIe et XIXe siècles en Europe et en Amérique le rayonnement des philosophes des Lumières. Au XIXe siècle, en France, les élites sont formées dans les lycées, les grandes écoles militaires – Polytechnique et Saint-Cyr –, l’École normale supérieure et les Écoles de droit et de médecine, cependant que deux grands modèles d’écoles de pensée se dessinent, l’un d’essence libérale, l’autre socialiste. Les ouvrages des auteurs français circulent en Europe et en Amérique. Les modèles français dominent aussi bien dans le monde du livre et de la presse que dans un univers symbolique, grâce au rôle pivot joué par la langue française dans les échanges culturels internationaux, dans lesquels l’on constate la prééminence de la littérature, et surtout celle du roman. Le rôle des professeurs de littérature et des revues littéraires en France consistera alors à “apprendre à lire” convenablement une œuvre. L’affaire Dreyfus et l’évolution de la carrière de Renan permettent de comprendre les mutations de la scène intellectuelle parisienne, tandis que la “littérature de trottoir” favorise le brassage des idées et des idéologies. Les autodafés de livres au XXe siècle témoignent de la place du livre et de la lecture dans la formation des élites.

Résumé Villiers de d’Isle-Adam et Michel Houellebecq ont ciblé les tensions de leur société pour en dévoiler les tabous linguistiques et se rapprochent par le métalangage techniciste et la polyphonie du réel. Les lecteurs bourgeois de la Troisième République ont été troublés par la «chronique» de Villiers L’Etna chez soi illustrant le projet de leur extermination: l’écrivain avait manipulé l’«actualité sociale et politique» en exploitant surtout la propagande anarchiste. Par l’ambiguïté de sa posture d'énonciation — la volonté de rendre compte du réel selon le procédé morbide de l’écrivain-voyeur — et un engrenage descriptif rationnel, il a fait bousculer son lecteur entre le mécanisme fictionnel et celui de la véridicité scientifique. Peu apprécié à l’époque et critiqué encore de nos jours, ce récit visait à déstabiliser la solidité″ de la classe sociale responsable du système politique et qui continuait à sous-estimer la production de l’écrivain. Dans Soumission, Houellebecq projette — par le procédé dystopique et la spatialisation — «une société dans tous ses états» : en poussant ce nouveau réalisme jusqu’à ses extrêmes limites, il parvient à une subversion idéologique. En suivant l’existence de son protagoniste, sorte d’anti-héros célibataire et par l’émergence du malaise français quant à la question de l’identité nationale, on retrouve en filigrane la faillite de la laïcité, l’attitude opportuniste des autres personnages — les universitaires en particulier — face à une prétendue islamisation de la vie française: le sujet du roman a été jugé tantôt comme une sorte de science- fiction politique, tantôt comme une mise en perspective «polémiste» du système politique et social français. Les deux procédés ont posé la question de la liberté et de la responsabilité de l’écrivain et ont remis en discussion le pouvoir des media dans la vie politique et dans la formation de la pensée collective. I lettori borghesi della Terza Repubblica hanno accolto con turbamento la cronaca di Villiers L’Etna chez soi che illustrava il progetto del loro sterminio: lo scrittore aveva “crudelmente” manipolato l’attualità sociale et politica sfruttando la propaganda anarchica. Con l’ambiguità della propria posizione enunciativa — la volontà di render conto della realtà con il procedimento morboso dello scrittore-voyeur — mantiene il lettore in sospeso fra il meccanismo della finzione e della credibilità scientifica in materia di esplosivi. All’epoca poco apprezzato e ancora criticato ai nostri giorni, il racconto mirava a destabilizzare la ″solidità″ della classe sociale responsabile del sistema politico che non riconosceva il valore delle opere di Villiers. In Soumission, Houellebecq proietta — con un procedimento distopico e un metaforico paradigma spaziale — le forme della sua società: spingendo all’estremo l’anticipazione realista dei risultati elettorali, ne prospetta la sovversione ideologica. Seguendo l’evoluzione del protagonista, una sorta di anti-eroe gravato dalla sofferenza fisica e ideologica “fine secolo” e con l’emergere del disagio francese riguardo alla questione dell’identità nazionale, in filigrana si ritrovano il fallimento della laicità e l’atteggiamento opportunista dei personaggi — in particolare dei docenti universitari come il protagonista, specialista di Huysmans — di fronte a una possibile islamizzazione della vita francese e, di lì a poco, europea: il soggetto del romanzo è stato giudicato sia come un esempio di fantascienza politica che come un’anticipazione polemica del sistema politico e sociale. Le due opere, ravvicinate dal procedimento tecnicistico e dalla rappresentazione polifonica della realtà, hanno posto la questione della libertà e della responsabilità dello scrittore e rimesso in discussione il potere dei media nella vita politica e nella formazione del pensiero collettivo.
