There is an increasing need to shield beams and accelerator elements from stray magnetic fields. The application of magnetic shielding in linear colliders is discussed. The shielding performance of soft iron and mu-metal is measured for magnetic fields of varying amplitude and frequency. Special attention is given to characterise the shielding performance for very small-amplitude magnetic fields.

The Compact Linear Collider (CLIC) is a TeV-scale high-luminosity linear $e^+e^-$ collider under development at CERN. Following the CLIC conceptual design published in 2012, this report provides an overview of the CLIC project, its current status, and future developments. It presents the CLIC physics potential and reports on design, technology, and implementation aspects of the accelerator and the detector. CLIC is foreseen to be built and operated in stages, at centre-of-mass energies of 380 GeV, 1.5 TeV and 3 TeV, respectively. CLIC uses a two-beam acceleration scheme, in which 12 GHz accelerating structures are powered via a high-current drive beam. For the first stage, an alternative with X-band klystron powering is also considered. CLIC accelerator optimisation, technical developments and system tests have resulted in an increased energy efficiency (power around 170 MW) for the 380 GeV stage, together with a reduced cost estimate at the level of 6 billion CHF. The detector concept has been refined using improved software tools. Significant progress has been made on detector technology developments for the tracking and calorimetry systems. A wide range of CLIC physics studies has been conducted, both through full detector simulations and parametric studies, together providing a broad overview of the CLIC physics potential. Each of the three energy stages adds cornerstones of the full CLIC physics programme, such as Higgs width and couplings, top-quark properties, Higgs self-coupling, direct searches, and many precision electroweak measurements. The interpretation of the combined results gives crucial and accurate insight into new physics, largely complementary to LHC and HL-LHC. The construction of the first CLIC energy stage could start by 2026. Objectives: Rituximab is an effective treatment in patients with established rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The objective of the IMAGE study was to determine the efficacy of rituximab in the prevention of joint damage and its safety in combination with methotrexate (MTX) in patients initiating treatment with MTX. Methods: In this double-blind randomised controlled phase III study, 755 MTX-naïve patients with active RA were randomly assigned to MTX alone, rituximab 2×500 mg + MTX or rituximab 2×1000 mg + MTX. The primary end point at week 52 was the change in joint damage measured using a Genant-modified Sharp score. Results: 249, 249 and 250 patients were randomly assigned to MTX alone, rituximab 2×500 mg + MTX or rituximab 2×1000 mg + MTX, respectively. At week 52, treatment with rituximab 2×1000 mg + MTX compared with MTX alone was associated with a reduction in progression of joint damage (mean change in total modified Sharp score 0.359 vs 1.079; p=0.0004) and an improvement in clinical outcomes (ACR50 65% vs 42%; p

Sjogren's syndrome is an important autoimmune disease in the head and neck. Patients have an increased arrival risk of up to 6% per year for developing B-cell lymphomas, including mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphomas. The following case report shows this relation and the difficulty of differentiating clinically recurrent swelling of the parotid gland in Sjogren's syndrome from malignant lymphoma. A 64-year-old woman had a 2-year history of indolent, recurrent swelling of both parotid glands. Blood examination showed elevated ESR and a hypergammaglobulinemia. Immunosuppressive therapy produced no improvement. Two years after the diagnosis of Sjogren's syndrome, swelling of the left parotid gland persisted. Superficial parotidectomy of the left side was performed and histopathological examination revealed a MALT-related lymphoma. Subsequent parotidectomy of the right side also showed infiltration of the gland by a MALT lymphoma. Postoperative radiation therapy was given. During the follow-up period no recurrence or systemic disease was detected. Patients with Sjogren's syndrome should be examined regularly by the otolaryngologist. If a lymphoma cannot be ruled out, open biopsy must be considered for histological diagnosis. Prognostic factors for developing a lymphoma are possibly a high ESR and hypergammaglobulinemia. Further prognostic factors have to be evaluated.

The first Croatian geomagnetic observatory was established in the area of the Nature Park Lonjsko Polje, after a century of sporadic efforts originating from the proposals of Andrija Mohorovicic. The location was chosen after exhaustive surveys of possible sites. It is located far enough from sources of civilization noise, and was found to be an area without magnetic anomalies and with a low field gradient. The construction of the observatory buildings was completed in the autumn of 2011. The furnishing and installation of instruments and test measurements were completed by the beginning of summer 2012, ever since we have continuous recordings of the geomagnetic elements. In the beginning of December 2012 the fluxgate magnetometer LEMI-035 (H, D, Z orientation) has been installed under the framework of the PLASMON project in cooperation with the Tihany Observatory (Hungary). Permanent data of high quality from our observatory will contribute to the monitoring of the Earth’s magnetic field on the regional and global levels, thus enabling further development of geomagnetism in Croatia through collaboration with scientists from the other countries, participation in the international projects, eventual membership in the International Real-time Magnetic Observatory Network (INTERMAGNET), etc. The field elements for the epoch 2012, 75 and the baselines are presented together with highlights of some recorded geomagnetic events so far. Furthermore, the comparison between the variation data recorded by the dIdD and the fluxgate LEMI-035 magnetometer is presented.

Nowcast and forecast of space weather need real time measurements of the terrestrial plasma environment and models that are suitable to describe the evolution of the system. PLASMON, a global collaboration of 11 institutions funded by the EU (FP/-SPACE) aims at near real-time monitoring the state of plasmasphere. This paper discusses the requirements for the instrumentation which make the recorded data suitable to achieve the adressed scientific goals and some preliminary results are shown.
