This open access book highlights the hydropower potential of the Dadu River watershed in Sichuan province, Southwest China, and an important part of the flood control system for the Changjiang (Yangtze) River. Although there are many publications about energy efficiency policies and renewable energy policies, most of them are specific to some countries or regions. As most of these publications focus on country and region specific issues, they may not be preferred in teaching the energy related policies in a university not from that country or region. The author has been teaching a course called “Energy Laws and Policies” for a long time. Over the years, she prepared detailed lecture notes about energy efficiency policies and renewable energy policies which are the basis of this book. It can be used by instructors around the World, or by students/individuals who want to learn more about these policies. It is aimed to serve as a textbook for undergraduate, and graduate level students. In this context, it is important to identify the determining factors of fuel choice and consumption decision for cooking purpose at household level. Earlier studies mainly focused on fuel price and household income determining domestic fuel consumption, and insufficient attention has been given to other socioeconomic factors and decision processes for fuel choice. In this Brief, the double hurdle model is used to estimate the hurdles in fuel demand and its determinants at the household level in rural India.

Hierbei handelt sich jedoch um Stromgestehungsmethoden mit hohen volatilen Anteilen, so dass mit deren zunehmendem Anteil, Ausgleichssysteme wie Energiespeicher erforderlich werden. An diesem Punkt setzt das vorliegende Werk an und beschreibt die Grundlagen, Voraussetzungen und die Entwicklung zweier techno-ökonomischer Berechnungsmodelle. Darin werden neben der Berechnung der erforderlichen Speicherkapazitäten, auch die Kosten für die gesamtheitlichen Systeme und deren anfallende Verluste betrachtet. Es wird ein Berechnungsansatz präsentiert, der insbesondere die Problematik der hohen Kosten von Speichersystemen aufgreift und diese in ein Verhältnis zur Stromerzeugung setzt. Die resultierenden Ergebnisse sind am Beispiel des deutschen Stromversorgungssystems veranschaulicht und liefern eine Abschätzung, welche Stromkosten mit einer vollständig volatilen Stromversorgung zu erwarten sind.

This book describes the valuation of services of ecosystems (forests, agriculture and aquatic) for Karnataka State, India, as per the validated statistical framework for natural capital accounting – SEEA: System of Environmental-Economic Accounting (SEEA.un.org). According to SEEA protocol, ecosystem services are defined as the contributions of ecosystems to the benefits that are used in economic and other human activities. The valuation of ecosystem services (VES) provides an unbiased framework to value unaccounted ecosystem benefits and helps in developing meaningful policy interventions. The approach allows for adjusted regional or national accounts which reflect the output of ecosystem services as well as the depletion of natural resources and the degradation costs (externalized costs of the loss of ecosystem services) of ecosystems in economic terms. In this perspective, the current publication, focusing on the natural capital accounting and valuation of ecosystem services in Karnataka, India, can help raise awareness and provide a quantitative tool to evaluate the sustainability of policies.
