The poultry industry stands as a cornerstone in securing global food stability, both in the present and foreseeable future. To continue to uphold this critical role, the exploration of innovative, low-input feed sources is imperative. Hemp emerges as a promising candidate, offering locally sourced ingredients that not only reduce feed costs but also maintain high nutritional standards for livestock. This study delved into the utilisation of whole hemp seeds in the diet of 100 Naked-neck Kabir chicks that were divided randomly into two dietary groups, one fed a control diet (CTRL) and one fed a diet deprived of soybean meal with 10% inclusion of Carmagnola hemp seeds (HEMP). Birds were slaughtered at 81 days of age. Physicochemical characteristics of breast, thigh, and liver, besides the antioxidant content and the lipid oxidative status, were investigated. The HEMP birds exhibited higher daily weight gain and final live weight compared to the CTRL group. Results revealed improvements in the fatty acid profiles and antioxidant content in the HEMP group, leading to good levels of key nutrients such as α-tocopherol, retinol, and n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids. These findings underscore the potential of hemp seeds as a feed ingredient, standing poised as a sustainable ally in fortifying the poultry productive chain.

This study explores the potential of rabbits as a sustainable solution for poverty alleviation and food security in Burkina Faso, a country facing socio-economic and environmental challenges. In the context of limited resources and employment opportunities, rabbits offer advantages such as small size, short generation interval and high reproductive capacity. The research focuses on characterising the morphology of Burkina Faso’s local rabbit population, comparing it with two Italian breeds: a local medium-growing breed called Leprino di Viterbo (LV) and a fast-growing hybrid (a crossbred New Zealand × California, NZC). Utilising path analysis and principal component analysis, the study identifies key morphometric traits crucial for breeding programs and examines the influence of specific traits on body weight (BW) gain and heat stress resilience through ‘Transpiration Indexes.’ Findings highlight the importance of variables like chest girth (CG), abdominal girth (AG), rump width (RW) and nose to shoulders length (NSL) in influencing body weight (BW) and reveal significant size and shape differences among the breeds. The study suggests potential climate adaptation in Burkina Faso’s rabbit population, providing practical insights for breeding programs in resource-constrained regions. This research not only advances scientific understanding but also provides practical insights for breeding programs in resource-constrained regions, emphasising the importance of certain morphological traits for heat dissipation.

In the last decade, great attention was placed on insects to increase feed-food production without negatively affecting the environment. In this research study we compare three different insect species (Alphitobius diaperinus, Tenebrio molitor, and Zophobas morio - lesser mealworm, mealworm, and superworm), fed the same substrate, on the chemical composition, fatty acid (FA) profile, antioxidant content, and microbiological loads. Superworm larvae show higher dry matter (38.06%) and ether extract (17.65%) contents followed by mealworm and lesser mealworm larvae (32.77%, 27.11% and 13.86%, 10.78%, respectively). No differences were detected in the crude protein and ash content. Superworm larvae showed the highest content of SFA (41.43% vs 39.16% and 28.52% of total FA, in lesser mealworm and mealworm, respectively), while mealworm larvae were the richest in MUFA (40.61% vs 34.38% and 32.98% of total FA, in super and lesser mealworm, respectively) and PUFA (29.05% vs 22.29% and 21.21% of total FA in super and lesser mealworm, respectively). Anyhow, in all the larvae the three more representative fatty acids were oleic acid, linoleic acid, and palmitic acid. The least beneficial ratio of n-6/n-3 was detected in Alphitobius diaperinus larvae (53.84), while Zophobas morio larvae showed the healthier ratio (16.04). The antioxidant contents determination revealed a linkage to the fatty acids content. Low differences were determined in microbiological loads of the larvae. The characteristics of the insects revealed the great potential of these three species highlighting the capacities to respond to different requests derived from the food and feed sectors.Highlights Superworm larvae showed the highest content of SFA Mealworms larvae were the richest in PUFA The fat-soluble vitamin content followed the fatty acids content

Food analysis plays an important role in preserving the integrity and quality of food. Despite these noble goals, most official methods for the analysis of nutrients (vitamins, carotenoids, etc.) antioxidants (polyphenols, etc.), and contaminants (pesticides, veterinary drugs, mycotoxins etc.) still rely on time-consuming, complex, and polluting procedures of sample preparation. To solve this discrepancy, the scientific community has frantically been working to make extraction procedures faster and safer, resorting to miniaturization, automation, low-energy consumption, and solvents/sorbents from renewable resources. This review provides an overview of the most sustainable extraction methods in food analysis, developed over the last ten years (2014–2024), including relevant examples of both liquid phase and sorbent-based techniques. Particular emphasis is placed on solutions aimed at improving the method sustainability such as smart devices, neoteric solvents, and composite sorbents, discussing the latest advancements and future trends in this sector.

ABSTRACT: The optimization of animal welfare, meat quality, environmental impact, and economic sustainability in alternative poultry farming can be achieved by modulating several productive factors and improving the synergy between the chicken genotype and the outdoor environment. The objective of the study was to characterize 4 slow-growing chicken genotypes reared in free range conditions. Eight hundred chickens (SGs; 25 chickens/replicates/genotype/enrichment) belonging to the following genotypes, Red JA57 (RJ), Naked Neck (NN), Lohmann Dual meat-type (LD), and an Italian crossbreed (Robusta Maculata x Sasso, CB). were utilised and slaughtered at 81 d: The grazing areas were alternatively provided with enrichment constituted by strips of sorghum plants (ENR) or only grass (NO ENR). Productive performance (daily weight gain, daily feed intake, feed conversion ratio, live weight) were recorded weekly. Behaviour observations (walking and grass pecking), carcass and meat quality of breast and drumstick were also assessed in 15 chickens/replicate/genotypes/enrichment. Results demonstrated that both LD and CB showed the highest walking activity, but the different strains were differently capable of using the foraging resources (eating grass). The better productive performance was recorded in RJ followed by NN, CB and LD. In LD and CB, the different walking activities also affected the physico-chemical profiles (lower pHu, WHC, and lipids) of the breast and drumstick. The oxidative status was worse in CB than in the other groups (lower tocols, higher carbonyls), in both meat cuts. Fatty acid profile was also related to the genetic strain: a higher amount of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids was recorded both in the breast and drumstick of RJ and NN. The Healthy Fatty Index resulted excellent in all the chicken genotypes. In conclusion, the environment/animal interaction resulted as an important factor affecting the adaptability of genotypes to an extensive rearing system. All four genotypes, to different extents, showed good adaptability and production performance, with the exception of LD and CB, which were too light for the commercial supply chain requirements.

O crime de contrabando está incluído no âmbito da criminalidade transfronteiriça que se caracteriza por envolver mais de um país em sua execução. Tal crime considera a internalização no Brasil ou a externalização, em outro país, de produtos relativa ou absolutamente proibidos. Os agrotóxicos tornam-se objeto material dessa conduta se não houver autorização para sua utilização no país em razão do princípio ativo utilizado ou do percentual incorporado no produto. Constata-se, entretanto, que a região Oeste do Paraná, onde se localiza a fronteira com o Paraguai, é também uma das maiores áreas agrícolas produtoras de grãos. Os agrotóxicos proibidos simbolizam uma maior eficácia contra as pragas por serem mais tóxicos, além de diminuírem a utilização de insumos e de mão de obra. Dessa forma, constituem maior lucratividade para o agronegócio. Por outro lado, trazem prejuízos significativos ao meio ambiente e à saúde daqueles que são direta ou indiretamente expostos ao seu uso. Referida criminalidade traz, por isso, inúmeros desafios em sua contenção, não só pela extensão da fronteira ou da deficiência na fiscalização, mas também por conectar-se a outras formas de criminalidade e a valores sociais e econômicos que normalizam tal comportamento.

Background and Objectives: Human umbilical cord blood serum (HUCBS) stands out as a potent adjunct to conventional therapies for ocular surface disorders (OSDs) caused by, among many, autoimmune systemic syndromes. By expediting ocular surface regeneration and fostering epithelial integrity, HUCBS not only enhances subjective patient experiences but also improves objective clinical indicators. This makes it particularly useful in patients with corneal ulcers through ocular surface regeneration and anti-inflammatory activity. This study aims to explore the efficacy of HUCBS in patients who had previously received other treatments unsuccessfully. Materials and Methods: This study was a prospective, non-comparative, interventional case series study involving 49 patients (30 females and 19 males) aged 15–82 years with severe OSDs who were unresponsive to standard treatments. The study was conducted at the San Marco Hospital, Catania, Italy. Patients were categorized into four groups based on the etiology of their severe OSDs: Group I consisted of twenty four patients with filamentary keratitis and corneal ulcers associated with rheumatologic diseases such as Sjogren’s syndrome and systemic sclerosis; Group II comprised thirteen patients with graft-versus-host disease; Group III consisted of nine patients with corneal neurotrophic ulcers; and Group IV included three patients with Steven–Johnson syndrome. The outcomes were evaluated before and after treatment using the following assessments: OSDI (Ocular Surface Disease Index) and SANDE (Symptom Assessment in Dry Eye) questionnaires, VAS (Visual Analog Scale), Slit Lamp Examination, Esthesiometry, Lissamine Green Staining, NIBUT (Non-Invasive Break-Up Time), BUT (Break-Up Time), Fluorescein Staining with Photography and Oxford Classification, The Schirmer Test, Best-Corrected Visual Acuity (BCVA), and Meibography. Results: We observed a significant improvement in the outcomes from the SANDE, VAS, and OSDI questionnaires, The Schirmer Test, BUT, BCVA, and Oxford Classification, after treatment with UCBS. Clinical variables, such as corneal inflammation, conjunctivalization, corneal neovascularization, and pain, were also considered individually. Nevertheless, pain and inflammation reduced markedly over time until complete healing was achieved in all cases. Conclusions: Our pilot study highlights the substantial efficacy of HUCBS in patients with systemic autoimmune diseases who have shown inadequate responses to prior treatments for dry eye. This underscores the need for further comprehensive investigations in this field.

This study examined the effects of extruded linseed and algae Padina pavonica extract on the reproductive performance, milk production, and gastrointestinal health of female rabbits. Thirty-six nulliparous New Zealand White female rabbits were randomly assigned to three groups (n = 12) with different diets. The control group (CNT) received a standard diet, while the other two groups received modified isoenergetic diets in which part of the CNT diet ingredients were replaced with 5% extruded linseed (L5%) and 5% extruded linseed plus 0.2% Padina pavonica algae extract (L5%PP). The rabbits were monitored from artificial insemination until the weaning of the rabbit kits, evaluating different reproductive parameters. Our results indicate that extruded linseed and alga Padina pavonica extract did not affect the feed intake or body weight of female rabbits. Additionally, no clinically significant histological changes were observed at the gastrointestinal level. The reproductive parameters, including litter size, litter weight, and milk yield, showed no significant differences among groups. Notably, perinatal and pre-weaning mortalities were reduced in litters born to females receiving omega-3 integrated diets (p < 0.05). While these findings are promising, further studies are needed to confirm these results and explore the specific mechanisms by which omega-3 affects reproductive function and litter health.

The aim of this study was to assess the impact of nitrogen doses on the yield of two barley cultivars, namely BRS Brau and BRS Cauê, cultivated in various growing environments in Southern Brazil. The research was conducted during the 2017 harvest season in Alegrete and Pelotas, RS, Brazil. A randomized block design with a factorial scheme of 2 x 2 x 4 (growing environments x barley cultivars x nitrogen doses) was employed, with four replications. Various parameters were evaluated, including plant height, number of tillers per plant, number of ears per square meter, number of seeds per plant, thousand seeds weight (TSW), and yield. The results indicated that the two barley cultivars responded differently to the growing environments and nitrogen doses. In Pelotas, BRS Brau exhibited superior performance in terms of plant height and TSW, while BRS Cauê showed a higher number of seeds per plant and seed yield. Furthermore, the combination of the Pelotas growing environment and a nitrogen dose of 200 kg ha-1 resulted in optimized growth and yield of barley seeds.

O cultivo do mirtilo tem atraído atenção devido ao seu perfil bioativo, e potencial antioxidante, sendo que suas características produtivas influenciam no número e na qualidade dos frutos produzidos. O objetivo foi avaliar as características produtivas e sua influência no perfil físico-químico do mirtilo cv. Powderblue por dois anos. Observou-se maior número de botões florais intercalados com botões vegetativos no nível apical. Os primórdios florais foram encontrados em maior número nos níveis medial e apical do caule e influenciaram as posições de flores e frutos que foram encontrados em maior quantidade no nível apical do caule. Em ambas as safras, os frutos localizados no nível apical apresentaram maior teor de sólidos solúveis, compostos fenólicos, antocianinas, potencial antioxidante, pH e menor acidez do que os frutos localizados nos níveis mediano e basal. A posição dos botões florais e vegetativos impacta o nível e o número de primórdios florais, flores e frutos, e está diretamente relacionada à atividade antioxidante, compostos fenólicos totais, antocianinas totais e parâmetros físico-químicos dos frutos.

Objectives: The persistence in therapy of rheumatoid arthritis drugs and particularly bDMARD is a limiting factor for their long-term use. The randomized controlled trials (RCTs) may not reflect real-world contexts due to strict inclusion and exclusion criteria. Baricitinib, which targets both JAK1 and JAK2, has been used in Italy for several years. The aim of this multi-center study is to assess the real world persistence on therapy of baricitinib in RA patients and to identify predictive factors of baricitinib's survival rate. Methods: This is a retrospective, multicentric, Italian, longitudinal study. All patients were enrolled according to the following criteria: a) age ≥ 18 years old; b) diagnosed with RA according 2010 ACR/EULAR classification criteria; c) treated with baricitinib. In order to describe baricitinib clinical efficacy, the survival rate was evaluated by The Kaplan–Meier curve. Then, predictive factors of drug retention rate were assessed by performing the Cox analysis, identifying which risk factors influenced treatment persistence. Results: Overall, we included 478 patients treated with baricitinib. Among them, 380 (79.5%) were females. Baricitinib's survival rate was 94.6% at 6 months, 87.9% at 12 months, 81.7% at 24 months and 53.4% at 48 months. The Cox analysis regression showed that a higher bDMARDs/tsDMARD line of therapy seems to be a negative prognostic factor for the drug retention rate (HR 1.26 CI 95% 1.07–1.49, p = 0.006. Conclusion: Real-life study confirms baricitinib effectiveness up to 4 years, but previous treatment with bDMARDs was a negative prognostic factor for its survival rate.

In the present study, we evaluated the effect of various concentrations of date palm pollen (DPP) aqueous extract on rabbit sperm during storage at 4°C for 48 h. Semen was collected from old and young rabbit bucks using an artificial vagina and initially evaluated for sperm quality. The sperm were diluted in Tris buffer supplemented with (20, 40, 80 mg/mL) of DPP aqueous extract. The extended samples were stored at 4°C for 48 h. Sperm motility and motion kinetics were assessed after 2, 4, 24 and 48 h of storage. At each time, an aliquot was frozen for the analytical evaluation of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) (lipid peroxidation) and tocols (vitamin E). Proximate composition, antioxidant and sugar content were evaluated in DPP. The results showed that DPP was characterised by a high proportion of protein (27.10%) and ash (18.43%), whereas the lipid fraction was very low (0.51%) and total sugar was also high (16.25 g/100 g of fresh matter, f.m.). Regarding the antioxidants content, the sum of tocols showed a total value of 26.48 mg/g f.m. The total polyphenols content was 5.01 mg gallic acid equivalents/g f.m, and polyunsaturated fatty acids was around 30%. Date palm pollen extract had a dose-dependent effect on sperm parameters (curvilinear velocity [VCL] mainly) of old rabbit, although a null or negative effect was recorded at doses >DPP40. Conversely, in optimal conditions (i.e. young rabbit semen), the addition of pollen had no effect on sperm traits (motility and VCL). The progressive increase in DPP, despite providing sperm with an additional amount of tocols, also caused higher tocol consumption and an increase in lipid oxidation. In particular, DPP80 increased the TBARS level in sperm of both rabbit ages. The better trend was found in DPP20, where the tocol consumption figures were 10.46 % and 15.28 %, respectively, in old and young bucks, and the lipid oxidation was lower compared to the higher doses of DPP. In conclusion, the findings of this study demonstrated that supplementation of DPP extract to Tris buffer extender enhanced chilled rabbit semen traits only if administered in old rabbit semen at concentration lower than 40 mg/mL.

The aim of this research was to validate the effectiveness of the Healthy Fatty Index (HFI) regarding some foods of animal origin (meat, processed, fish, milk products, and eggs) typical of the Western diet and to compare these results with two consolidated indices (atherogenic—AI, and thrombogenic—TI) in the characterization of the nutritional features of their lipids. The fatty acids profile (% of total fatty acids and mg/100 g) of 60 foods, grouped in six subclasses, was used. The AI, TI, and HFI indexes were calculated, and the intraclass correlation coefficients and the degree of agreement were evaluated using different statistical approaches. The results demonstrated that HFI, with respect to AI and TI, seems better able to consider the complexity of the fatty acid profile and the different fat contents. HFI and AI are the two most diverse indices, and they can provide different food classifications. AI and IT exhibit only a fair agreement in regards to food classification, confirming that such indexes are always to be considered indissolubly and never separately, in contrast to the HFI, which can stand alone.

Macrospora leaf spot (MLS), caused by the fungus Stenocarpella macrospora, is one of the most important diseases affecting maize in Brazil. However, there are no MLS-resistant cultivars commercially available. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the lesion expansion rate of MLS in four maize genotypes, leaf wetness duration (0-, 6-, 12-, 18-, 24-, 30-, 36-, 42-, and 54-hour post-inoculation), disease development severity in three maize genotypes, and resistance/tolerance levels to MLS in 141 maize genotypes commercially grown in Brazil. The estimates were performed using logistic models adjusted to the parameters analyzed, except for resistance/tolerance levels, which were analyzed using proposed severity and resistance scales. The experiment was carried out at the Laboratory of Plant Phytopathology of the Epagri/Cepaf, Santa Catarina State, Brazil, from 2016 to 2020. Disease resistance was significantly different among genotypes and fungal isolates. However, none of the genotypes showed resistance or high tolerance levels to MLS. Leaf wetness duration influenced maximum disease severity, and lesion expansion rate differed significantly among the genotypes tested. Introduction: The impact of COVID-19 pandemic represents a serious challenge for ‘frail’ patients' populations with inflammatory autoimmune systemic diseases such as systemic sclerosis (SSc). We investigated the prevalence and severity of COVID-19, as well the effects of COVID-19 vaccination campaign in a large series of SSc patients followed for the entire period (first 38 months) of pandemic. Patients and method: This prospective survey study included 1755 unselected SSc patients (186 M, 1,569F; mean age 58.7 ± 13.4SD years, mean disease duration 8.8 ± 7.3SD years) recruited in part by telephone survey at 37 referral centers from February 2020 to April 2023. The following parameters were carefully evaluated: i. demographic, clinical, serological, and therapeutical features; ii. prevalence and severity of COVID-19; and iii. safety, immunogenicity, and efficacy of COVID-19 vaccines. O objetivo central deste artigo é apresentar os resultados parciais de uma investigação acerca do papel educativo do jornal A Classe Operária, que circulou clandestinamente durante a ditadura militar brasileira (1964-1985). Relacionando os conceitos de educação, clandestinidade e cultura política, além de considerar referenciais metodológicos ligados aos potenciais usos da fonte jornal para a História da Educação, a análise de vinte (20) edições deste periódico, entre 1967 e 1969, demonstrou que A Classe Operária foi um importante instrumento de educação para os comunistas na clandestinidade. Em suas páginas, a denúncia teve centralidade como princípio e recurso educativo. Como princípio, teve a função de disseminar valores, crenças, convicções e pressupostos associados à cultura política comunista, o que já era uma prática educativa desde o seu surgimento em 1925. Como recurso, serviu como um disseminador de valores que enfatizavam o comprometimento, a solidariedade e a lealdade com a organização partidária, além da capacidade de enfrentar riscos e adversidades, principalmente quando a militância comunista precisou atuar na clandestinidade, entre fins dos anos 1960 e meados dos 1970.

This paper illustrates an enrichment procedure based on the combination of solid phase extraction (SPE) with dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction (DLLME) for the determination of ng/L concentration levels of glucocorticoids in river water samples. In SPE-DLLME, the target analytes were adsorbed by loading a large volume sample (200 mL) into an OASIS HLB cartridge (60 mg). After their desorption with a small volume of ethyl acetate (500 µL), this eluate was used as the dispersant in the following DLLME, performed on 5 mL of water, using a low transition temperature mixture (LTTM) as the extractant (100 µL). The LTTM was obtained by the heat-mixing of choline chloride and sesamol in a molar ratio 1:3 (ChCl:Ses, 1:3); when cooled, it was liquid at room temperature, denser than water and immiscible with it. The SPE-DLLME approach significantly limits the use of high volumes of organic solvents, avoids the evaporation step, and allows one to achieve an enrichment factor greater than 2500. All extracts were analysed by high-performance liquid chromatography-electrospray-tandem mass spectrometry. Eleven glucocorticoids, including the epimers dexamethasone/betamethasone, were separated on a polysaccharide-based column, based on cellulose tris(3‑chloro-4-methylphenylcarbamate) chiral selector. Recoveries ranged from 68 to 100% (spike level of 5 and 20 ng/L), with a LOD of 0.21-1.39 ng/L and a LOQ of 0.69-4.17 ng/L. The intra-day precision and inter-day precision were lower than 15%. After optimization and complete validation, the method was applied to analyze surface water samples, taken from River Tiber, to evaluate the effective applicability of the procedure and to establish the contamination levels for these substances.

Se intentó mostrar cómo los ensayos contenidos en la obra despliegan la pregunta “¿Qué puede hacer la literatura?”. Hacemos también algunos apuntes sobre lo que llamamos “inconsistencia teórica” de la obra, indicando, al final, las posibilidades que vislumbra Saavedra para la literatura de los próximos años.

This work aims to describe the socio-technical network of a Chemistry laboratory in the school "Professora Maria do Rosário Castaldi", a State Center for Professional Education in the city of Londrina, Brazil, taking the translation theories proposed by Bruno Latour as motivation. The observation data were either recorded in audio or written in a diary, following the laboratory studies perspectives, particularly those of the Actor-Network Theory. According to these perspectives, the laboratory can be understood as an imbricate network composed of several elements, instances, interests, partnerships, procedures and knowledge, all of which produced by human and non-human entities that constitute the objects and meanings known to us as sciences or scientific practices. In addition, the concept of translation--a key concept of this theoretical body--helped to understand the heterogeneous set of elements mobilized by its actors with the aim of making the laboratory a recognized and consolidated organization. The observation and description of the material indicate how the network makes the analyzed laboratory something that is both completely dependent on and producer of the network in which it operates. Namely, the manner such process of materialization of the laboratory is dependent on a number of associations, negotiations, strategies, and alignments performed by human and non-human actors, linking the largest number of elements in order to make the construction of this space possible. The discussion allowed one to conclude that its permanence and success are not guaranteed, given that the whole process of collective action is always about to break or fall apart at any point.

Um dos maiores desafios enfrentados pelas cidades brasileiras refere-se ao manejo adequado dos resíduos sólidos. A escola pode ser a interlocutora na sensibilização, direcionando o processo de ensino e aprendizagem para mudar o comportamento individual e coletivo de estudantes. Oficinas temáticas se caracterizam como uma intervenção pedagógica, em que a educação ambiental é abordada de forma dinâmica, interativa e criativa. Neste contexto, o estudo objetivou identificar as percepções de crianças em uma escola municipal de Cambé[1]PR acerca da temática dos resíduos sólidos, a partir de desenhos elaborados em uma oficina denominada de “Compostagem na escola”. A oficina foi conduzida por 11 estudantes de graduação do curso de Engenharia Ambiental da Universidade Tecnológica Federal do Paraná, acompanhados por uma professora coordenadora da ação. Empregou-se, como métodos de ensino: dinâmicas, jogos, conversas, todas com o intuito de integrar as crianças e promover a reflexão sobre o papel de cada uma no manejo adequado dos resíduos sólidos. Ao final, foi proposto para as crianças um questionário que continha a proposição de um desenho, de modo que pudessem retratar suas percepções acerca da temática de resíduos sólidos. A partir do olhar guiado pela Análise de Conteúdo, os desenhos foram classificados em três categorias: a) etapas e dinâmicas da oficinal; b) técnicas para gestão de resíduos sólidos; e c) forma de vida não humana na gestão de resíduos sólidos. A oficina foi uma estratégia de educação ambiental promissora, visto que se notou que quanto maior a interação e prazerosa a atividade, maior é o aprendizado.

Abstract Agroforestry systems, which are based on the integration of trees and animals, represent a useful practice for implementing the “One Welfare” concept. Geese could adapt well to these systems due to their kinetic and grazing abilities. However, the lack of specific ethograms and animal-based measures have not yet allowed a deep assessment of their welfare and behavior. The aim of this study was to develop and validate a protocol to evaluate the behavior of geese reared in two agroforestry systems (i.e., apple orchard and vineyard). Thus, a behavior observation form (BOF) including a specific ethogram was proposed, and its interobserver reliability, content, criterion and construct validity were determined. Moreover, the influence of the time of day and type of agroforestry system on geese's behavior was also investigated. Agreement and principal component analyses, as well as the comparison between data collected through direct observation by the BOF and indirect observation by a computerized system, supported the reliability and validity of the proposed protocol. While the BOF also highlighted differences in the behavior expressed by the geese according to the time of day and the environmental context, both the vineyard and apple orchard systems seem to meet their biological and behavioral needs.

O artigo traça um percurso de definição do conceito de micropolítica em uma visada singular da Semiótica Crítica. Busca suplementos nas teorizações de Deleuze e Guattari para pensá-la enquanto força subjacente a alianças que produzem zonas de devir. Em relação às proposições de Rolnik e Guattari, projeta a compreensão da micropolítica enquanto processo de cooperação dissonante entre sujeitos posicionados em subjetividades distintas, processo que faz esses modelos existenciais desterritorializarem-se. Já considerando as características fenomênicas desse processo, recorre ao pensamento de James e de Lapoujade para compreender que a micropolítica é produzida e intensificada a partir do que esses filósofos chamaram de experiência pura.

Este artigo apresenta parte do percurso traçado pela pesquisa Semiótica Crítica: a Comunicação como acontecimento. Como ponto de entrada ao trabalho, apresentaremos aqui a hipótese central e nossos objetivos; a saber, a percepção de que o conceito de acontecimento, a despeito de sua importância, tem dispersão na área da Comunicação, e flutua entre compreensões empiristas, funcionalistas e/ou fenomenológicas. Entrevendo outra vida possível ao conceito, com outra potencialidade à pesquisa comunicacional, passamos a investigar as dimensões pragmaticistas do acontecer, entre a semiótica de Charles Sanders Peirce e a filosofia de Gilles Deleuze. Ao pensar o acontecimento nos seus efeitos, com sua efetuação e contra-efetuação inseparáveis, abre-se espaço a um pensamento da Comunicação que não reifique seus objetos ou a experiência, focando em compreender as traduções aí envolvidas.
