Compliance plays a crucial role in manipulation, as it balances between the concurrent control of position and force under uncertainties. Yet compliance is often overlooked by today's visuomotor policies that solely focus on position control. This paper introduces Adaptive Compliance Policy (ACP), a novel framework that learns to dynamically adjust system compliance both spatially and temporally for given manipulation tasks from human demonstrations, improving upon previous approaches that rely on pre-selected compliance parameters or assume uniform constant stiffness. However, computing full compliance parameters from human demonstrations is an ill-defined problem. Instead, we estimate an approximate compliance profile with two useful properties: avoiding large contact forces and encouraging accurate tracking. Our approach enables robots to handle complex contact-rich manipulation tasks and achieves over 50\% performance improvement compared to state-of-the-art visuomotor policy methods. Telepresence technology aims to provide an immersive virtual presence for remote conference applications, and it is extremely important to synthesize high-quality binaural audio signals for this aim. Because the ambient noise is often inevitable in practical application scenarios, it is highly desired that binaural audio signals without noise can be obtained from microphone-array signals directly. For this purpose, this paper proposes a new end-to-end noise-immune binaural audio synthesis framework from microphone-array signals, abbreviated as Array2BR, and experimental results show that binaural cues can be correctly mapped and noise can be well suppressed simultaneously using the proposed framework. Compared with existing methods, the proposed method achieved better performance in terms of both objective and subjective metric scores.

The structure of an Al(111)3x3-Si surface was examined by combining data from positron diffraction and core-level photoemission spectroscopy. Analysis of the diffraction rocking curves indicated that the overlayer had a flat honeycomb lattice structure. Simulations of Si core-level spectra calculated via the first-principles indicated that one of the Si atoms in the unit cell was replaced by an Al atom. The surface superstructure was thus a two-dimensional layer of Al-embedded silicene on Al(111).

Water hydrogen bonding is extremely versatile; approximately 20 ice structures and several types of clathrate hydrate structures have been identified. These crystalline water structures form at temperatures below room temperature and/or at high pressure. We used transmission electron microscopy to study a new crystalline water structure in a clathrate state that is prepared by sandwiching gas-supersaturated water between graphene layers under ambient conditions. In this clathrate state, water molecules form a three-dimensional hydrogen bonding network that encloses gas-filled cages 2-4 nm in size. We derived the crystalline water structure by recording and analyzing electron diffraction patterns and performing first-principles calculations. The structure consists purely of pentagonal rings and has a topology similar to that of water ice XVII. The study proposed a mechanism for the formation of the clathrate state. The present results improve the understanding of interactions among water and small nonpolar molecules and offer novel insights into the local structures of ambient liquid water.

In this paper, we propose a novel Risk-Aware Local Trajectory Planner (RALTPER) for autonomous vehicles in complex environments characterized by Gaussian uncertainty. The proposed method integrates risk awareness and trajectory planning by leveraging probabilistic models to evaluate the likelihood of collisions with dynamic and static obstacles. The RALTPER focuses on collision avoidance constraints for both the ego vehicle region and the Gaussian-obstacle risk region. Additionally, this work enhances the generalization of both vehicle and obstacle models, making the planner adaptable to a wider range of scenarios. Our approach formulates the planning problem as a nonlinear optimization, solved using the IPOPT solver within the CasADi environment. The planner is evaluated through simulations of various challenging scenarios, including complex, static, mixed environment and narrow single-lane avoidance of pedestrians. Results demonstrate that RALTPER achieves safer and more efficient trajectory planning particularly in navigating narrow areas where a more accurate vehicle profile representation is critical for avoiding collisions.

Symbiotic communication (SC) is known as a new wireless communication paradigm, similar to the natural ecosystem population, and can enable multiple communication systems to cooperate and mutualize through service exchange and resource sharing. As a result, SC is seen as an important potential technology for future sixth-generation (6G) communications, solving the problem of lack of spectrum resources and energy inefficiency. Symbiotic relationships among communication systems can complement radio resources in 6G. However, the absence of established trust relationships among diverse communication systems presents a formidable hurdle in ensuring efficient and trusted resource and service exchange within SC frameworks. To better realize trusted SC services in 6G, in this paper, we propose a solution that converges SC and blockchain, called a symbiotic blockchain network (SBN). Specifically, we first use cognitive backscatter communication to transform blockchain consensus, that is, the symbiotic blockchain consensus (SBC), so that it can be better suited for the wireless network. Then, for SBC, we propose a highly energy-efficient sharding scheme to meet the extremely low power consumption requirements in 6G. Finally, such a blockchain scheme guarantees trusted transactions of communication services in SC. Through ablation experiments, our proposed SBN demonstrates significant efficacy in mitigating energy consumption and reducing processing latency in adversarial networks, which is expected to achieve a sustainable and trusted 6G wireless network.

We present Im2Flow2Act, a scalable learning framework that enables robots to acquire real-world manipulation skills without the need of real-world robot training data. The key idea behind Im2Flow2Act is to use object flow as the manipulation interface, bridging domain gaps between different embodiments (i.e., human and robot) and training environments (i.e., real-world and simulated). Im2Flow2Act comprises two components: a flow generation network and a flow-conditioned policy. The flow generation network, trained on human demonstration videos, generates object flow from the initial scene image, conditioned on the task description. The flow-conditioned policy, trained on simulated robot play data, maps the generated object flow to robot actions to realize the desired object movements. By using flow as input, this policy can be directly deployed in the real world with a minimal sim-to-real gap. By leveraging real-world human videos and simulated robot play data, we bypass the challenges of teleoperating physical robots in the real world, resulting in a scalable system for diverse tasks. The electronic structure and phonon dispersion of XS$_2$ with X = Co, Tc, Ti, Ru, Nb, and Rh in the monolayer MoS$_2$ structure with trigonal-prismatic coordination are studied from first principles. Although each XS$_2$ is dynamically unstable, CoS$_2$, TcS$_2$, RuS$_2$, and RhS$_2$ can be stabilized by developing charge density waves in the (2$\times$2) supercell, leading to metal-insulator transitions. Without really needing the metal-insulator transitions and large atomic distortions, additional energy may be gained in the total energy by mixing transition metal elements to create high-entropy combinations for X, presenting a wide range of high-entropy XS$_2$ compounds that exhibit a variety of band structures, including direct- and indirect-gap semiconductors, metals, and semimetals., Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures, 1 table

Audio signals provide rich information for the robot interaction and object properties through contact. This information can surprisingly ease the learning of contact-rich robot manipulation skills, especially when the visual information alone is ambiguous or incomplete. However, the usage of audio data in robot manipulation has been constrained to teleoperated demonstrations collected by either attaching a microphone to the robot or object, which significantly limits its usage in robot learning pipelines. In this work, we introduce ManiWAV: an 'ear-in-hand' data collection device to collect in-the-wild human demonstrations with synchronous audio and visual feedback, and a corresponding policy interface to learn robot manipulation policy directly from the demonstrations. We demonstrate the capabilities of our system through four contact-rich manipulation tasks that require either passively sensing the contact events and modes, or actively sensing the object surface materials and states. The creation of large, diverse, high-quality robot manipulation datasets is an important stepping stone on the path toward more capable and robust robotic manipulation policies. However, creating such datasets is challenging: collecting robot manipulation data in diverse environments poses logistical and safety challenges and requires substantial investments in hardware and human labour. As a result, even the most general robot manipulation policies today are mostly trained on data collected in a small number of environments with limited scene and task diversity. In this work, we introduce DROID (Distributed Robot Interaction Dataset), a diverse robot manipulation dataset with 76k demonstration trajectories or 350 hours of interaction data, collected across 564 scenes and 84 tasks by 50 data collectors in North America, Asia, and Europe over the course of 12 months. We demonstrate that training with DROID leads to policies with higher performance and improved generalization ability. Paper is a cheap, recyclable, and clean material that is often used to make practical tools. Traditional tool design either relies on simulation or physical analysis, which is often inaccurate and time-consuming. In this paper, we propose PaperBot, an approach that directly learns to design and use a tool in the real world using paper without human intervention. We demonstrated the effectiveness and efficiency of PaperBot on two tool design tasks: 1. learning to fold and throw paper airplanes for maximum travel distance 2. learning to cut paper into grippers that exert maximum gripping force. We present a self-supervised learning framework that learns to perform a sequence of folding, cutting, and dynamic manipulation actions in order to optimize the design and use of a tool. We deploy our system to a real-world two-arm robotic system to solve challenging design tasks that involve aerodynamics (paper airplane) and friction (paper gripper) that are impossible to simulate accurately., Comment: Project Website: https://paperbot.cs.columbia.edu/

We present Universal Manipulation Interface (UMI) -- a data collection and policy learning framework that allows direct skill transfer from in-the-wild human demonstrations to deployable robot policies. UMI employs hand-held grippers coupled with careful interface design to enable portable, low-cost, and information-rich data collection for challenging bimanual and dynamic manipulation demonstrations. To facilitate deployable policy learning, UMI incorporates a carefully designed policy interface with inference-time latency matching and a relative-trajectory action representation. The resulting learned policies are hardware-agnostic and deployable across multiple robot platforms. Equipped with these features, UMI framework unlocks new robot manipulation capabilities, allowing zero-shot generalizable dynamic, bimanual, precise, and long-horizon behaviors, by only changing the training data for each task. We demonstrate UMI's versatility and efficacy with comprehensive real-world experiments, where policies learned via UMI zero-shot generalize to novel environments and objects when trained on diverse human demonstrations. Controlling continuous-time dynamical systems is generally a two step process: first, identify or model the system dynamics with differential equations, then, minimize the control objectives to achieve optimal control function and optimal state trajectories. However, any inaccuracy in dynamics modeling will lead to sub-optimality in the resulting control function. To address this, we propose a neural ODE based method for controlling unknown dynamical systems, denoted as Neural Control (NC), which combines dynamics identification and optimal control learning using a coupled neural ODE. Through an intriguing interplay between the two neural networks in coupled neural ODE structure, our model concurrently learns system dynamics as well as optimal controls that guides towards target states. Our experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of our model for learning optimal control of unknown dynamical systems. Large, high-capacity models trained on diverse datasets have shown remarkable successes on efficiently tackling downstream applications. In domains from NLP to Computer Vision, this has led to a consolidation of pretrained models, with general pretrained backbones serving as a starting point for many applications. Can such a consolidation happen in robotics? Conventionally, robotic learning methods train a separate model for every application, every robot, and even every environment. Can we instead train generalist X-robot policy that can be adapted efficiently to new robots, tasks, and environments? In this paper, we provide datasets in standardized data formats and models to make it possible to explore this possibility in the context of robotic manipulation, alongside experimental results that provide an example of effective X-robot policies. We assemble a dataset from 22 different robots collected through a collaboration between 21 institutions, demonstrating 527 skills (160266 tasks). We show that a high-capacity model trained on this data, which we call RT-X, exhibits positive transfer and improves the capabilities of multiple robots by leveraging experience from other platforms. Human demonstration videos are a widely available data source for robot learning and an intuitive user interface for expressing desired behavior. However, directly extracting reusable robot manipulation skills from unstructured human videos is challenging due to the big embodiment difference and unobserved action parameters. To bridge this embodiment gap, this paper introduces XSkill, an imitation learning framework that 1) discovers a cross-embodiment representation called skill prototypes purely from unlabeled human and robot manipulation videos, 2) transfers the skill representation to robot actions using conditional diffusion policy, and finally, 3) composes the learned skill to accomplish unseen tasks specified by a human prompt video. Our experiments in simulation and real-world environments show that the discovered skill prototypes facilitate both skill transfer and composition for unseen tasks, resulting in a more general and scalable imitation learning framework. Accurate navigation is essential for autonomous robots and vehicles. In recent years, the integration of the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), Inertial Navigation System (INS), and camera has garnered considerable attention due to its robustness and high accuracy in diverse environments. However, leveraging the full capacity of GNSS is cumbersome because of the diverse choices of formulations, error models, satellite constellations, signal frequencies, and service types, which lead to different precision, robustness, and usage dependencies. To clarify the capacity of GNSS algorithms and accelerate the development efficiency of employing GNSS in multi-sensor fusion algorithms, we open source the GNSS/INS/Camera Integration Library (GICI-LIB), together with detailed documentation and a comprehensive land vehicle dataset. A factor graph optimization-based multi-sensor fusion framework is established, which combines almost all GNSS measurement error sources by fully considering temporal and spatial correlations between measurements. The graph structure is designed for flexibility, making it easy to form any kind of integration algorithm. For illustration, Real-Time Kinematic (RTK), Precise Point Positioning (PPP), and four RTK-based algorithms from GICI-LIB are evaluated using our dataset and public datasets. Charge density wave (CDW) resulted from a small distortion in the lattice is able to create new orders beyond the original lattice. In 2H-NbSe2, one of the layered transition metal dichalcogenides (TMD), the 3x3 charge order appears in two-dimensional (2D) layers. Although CDW is usually described by a sine wave, the spatial distribution within a 2D layer has never been systematically visualized. Here by using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and density functional theory (DFT), we have monitored the evolution of 3x3 CDW along c-axis and realized a nearly tomography scan of CDW of the topmost layer. The results show that the strength of 3x3 charge order varies while increasing the tunneling current. The 3x3 charge order is relatively strong at the outermost Se level and decreases while probing in between Se and Nb levels. Interestingly, the 3x3 charge order gets strong again as reaching Nb level but along with a phase shift. We further calculated the orbital charge distributions and found that both CDW intensity modulation and phase shift are strongly correlated with the distribution of Se p orbitals and Nb d orbitals., Comment: 12 pages, 4 figures

This paper introduces Diffusion Policy, a new way of generating robot behavior by representing a robot's visuomotor policy as a conditional denoising diffusion process. We benchmark Diffusion Policy across 12 different tasks from 4 different robot manipulation benchmarks and find that it consistently outperforms existing state-of-the-art robot learning methods with an average improvement of 46.9%. Diffusion Policy learns the gradient of the action-distribution score function and iteratively optimizes with respect to this gradient field during inference via a series of stochastic Langevin dynamics steps. We find that the diffusion formulation yields powerful advantages when used for robot policies, including gracefully handling multimodal action distributions, being suitable for high-dimensional action spaces, and exhibiting impressive training stability. To fully unlock the potential of diffusion models for visuomotor policy learning on physical robots, this paper presents a set of key technical contributions including the incorporation of receding horizon control, visual conditioning, and the time-series diffusion transformer. We hope this work will help motivate a new generation of policy learning techniques that are able to leverage the powerful generative modeling capabilities of diffusion models. Scene flow estimation, which predicts the 3D motion of scene points from point clouds, is a core task in autonomous driving and many other 3D vision applications. Existing methods either suffer from structure distortion due to ignorance of rigid motion consistency or require explicit pose estimation and 3D object segmentation. Errors of estimated poses and segmented objects would yield inaccurate rigidity constraints and in turn mislead scene flow estimation. In this paper, we propose a novel weight-sharing aggregation (WSA) method for feature and scene flow up-sampling. WSA does not rely on estimated poses and segmented objects, and can implicitly enforce rigidity constraints to avoid structure distortion in scene flow estimation. To further exploit geometric information and preserve local structure, we design a deformation degree module aim to keep the local region invariance. We modify the PointPWC-Net and integrate the proposed WSA and deformation degree module into the enhanced PointPWC-Net to derive an end-to-end scene flow estimation network, called WSAFlowNet. Extensive experimental results on the FlyingThings3D and KITTI datasets demonstrate that our WSAFlowNet achieves the state-of-the-art performance and outperforms previous methods by a large margin. We introduce RoboNinja, a learning-based cutting system for multi-material objects (i.e., soft objects with rigid cores such as avocados or mangos). In contrast to prior works using open-loop cutting actions to cut through single-material objects (e.g., slicing a cucumber), RoboNinja aims to remove the soft part of an object while preserving the rigid core, thereby maximizing the yield. To achieve this, our system closes the perception-action loop by utilizing an interactive state estimator and an adaptive cutting policy. The system first employs sparse collision information to iteratively estimate the position and geometry of an object's core and then generates closed-loop cutting actions based on the estimated state and a tolerance value. The "adaptiveness" of the policy is achieved through the tolerance value, which modulates the policy's conservativeness when encountering collisions, maintaining an adaptive safety distance from the estimated core. Learning such cutting skills directly on a real-world robot is challenging. Yet, existing simulators are limited in simulating multi-material objects or computing the energy consumption during the cutting process. To address this issue, we develop a differentiable cutting simulator that supports multi-material coupling and allows for the generation of optimized trajectories as demonstrations for policy learning. Furthermore, by using a low-cost force sensor to capture collision feedback, we were able to successfully deploy the learned model in real-world scenarios, including objects with diverse core geometries and soft materials.

This letter proposes an extrinsic calibration approach for a pair of monocular camera and prism-spinning solid-state LiDAR. The unique characteristics of the point cloud measured resulting from the flower-like scanning pattern is first disclosed as the vacant points, a type of outlier between foreground target and background objects. Unlike existing method using only depth continuous measurements, we use depth discontinuous measurements to retain more valid features and efficiently remove vacant points. The larger number of detected 3D corners thus contain more robust a priori information than usual which, together with the 2D corners detected by overlapping cameras and constrained by the proposed circularity and rectangularity rules, produce accurate extrinsic estimates. The algorithm is evaluated with real field experiments adopting both qualitative and quantitative performance criteria, and found to be superior to existing algorithms.
