Abstract

ITER envisages the use of two heating neutral beam injectors plus an optional one as part of the auxiliary heating and current drive system. The 16.5 MW expected neutral beam power per injector is several notches higher than worldwide existing facilities. A Neutral Beam Test Facility (NBTF) was established at Consorzio RFX, exploiting the synergy of two test beds, SPIDER and MITICA. SPIDER is dedicated to developing and characterizing large efficient negative ion sources at relevant parameters in ITER-like conditions: source and accelerator located in the same vacuum where the beam propagates, immunity to electromagnetic interferences of multiple radio-frequency (RF) antennas, avoidance of RF-induced discharges on the outside of the source. Three years of experiments on SPIDER have addressed to the necessary design modifications to enable full performances. The source is presently under a long shut-down phase to incorporate learnings from the experimental campaign. Parallelly, developments on MITICA, the full-scale prototype of the ITER NBI featuring a 1 MV accelerator and ion neutralization, are underway including manufacturing of in-vessel components, while power supplies and auxiliary plants are already under final testing and commissioning. Integration, commissioning and tests of the 1MV power supplies are essential for this first-of-kind system, unparalleled both in research and industry field. The integrated test to confirm 1MV output by combining invertor systems, DC generators and transmission lines extracted errors/accidents in some components. To realize a concrete system for ITER, solutions for the repair and the improvement of the system were developed. Hence, NBTF is emerging as a necessary facility, due to the large gap with existing injectors, effectively dedicated to identify issues and find solutions to enable successful ITER NBI operations in a time bound fashion.

Parallelly, developments on MITICA, the full-scale prototype of the ITER Neutral Beam Injector (NBI) featuring a 1 MV accelerator and ion neutralization, are underway including manufacturing of the beam source, accelerator and the beam line components, while power supplies and auxiliary plants, already installed, are under final testing and commissioning. Abstract

Heating neutral beam (HNB) injectors, necessary to achieve burning conditions and to control plasma instabilities in ITER, are characterized by such demanding parameters that a neutral beam test facility (NBTF) dedicated to their development and optimization is being realized in Padua (Italy) with direct contributions from the Italian government (through Consorzio RFX as the host entity) and the ITER international organization (with kind contributions from the ITER domestic agencies of Europe, Japan and India) and technical and scientific support from various European laboratories and universities. The NBTF hosts two experiments: SPIDER, devoted to ion source optimization for the required source performance, and MITICA, the full-size prototype of the ITER HNB, with an ion source identical to SPIDER. This paper gives an overview of the progress towards NBTF realization, with particular emphasis on issues discovered during this phase of activity and on solutions adopted to minimize the impact on the schedule and maintain the goals of the facilities. The realization of MITICA is well advanced; operation is expected to start in 2023 due to the long procurement time of the in-vessel mechanical components. The beam source power supplies, operating at 1 MV, are in an advanced phase of realization; all high-voltage components have been installed and the complex insulation test phase began in 2018. At the same time, construction and installation of SPIDER plant systems was successfully completed with their integration into the facility. The mechanical components of the SPIDER ion source were installed inside the vessel and connected to the plants. Integrated commissioning with the control, protection and safety systems ended positively and the first experimental phase has begun. The first results of the SPIDER experiment, with data from operational diagnostics, and the plans for the 1 MV insulation tests on the MITICA high-voltage components are presented.

Abstract

The operating principle of the ITER heating neutral beam injector ( is based on the acceleration and neutralisation of negative ions . The remaining charged particles after the neutralization process shall be removed by an e lectrostatic residual ion d ump (ERID) in which electrostatic fields are used to deflect the ions that are so dumped onto five water actively cooled p anels delimiting the four channels particle beam In order to realize the electrostatic field, three panels are grounded and the other two are polarised at a negative potential up to 25 kV The electric insulation on cooling pipes between polarised panels and ground is realized by ceramic breaks with 145 mm outer diameter and made of explosion bonded 316L tutanium grade 2 plates that are brazed to an alumina type IV tube ( titanium grade 2 side) and welded to cooling pipes (316L side)side). Alumina ha s excellen t thermal stability, oxidation and corrosion resistance . On the other hand, titanium grade 2 ha s good ductility besides the high strength and l imited mismatch of the c oefficient of thermal expansion with respect to alumina . Since these requirements have never been experimentally met, it was recognized necessary to build-up a test facility, named PRIMA (Padova Research on ITER Megavolt Accelerator), in Italy, which includes both a full-size negative ion source (SPIDER - Source for Production of Ion of Deuterium Extracted from RF plasma) and a prototype of the whole ITER injector (MITICA - Megavolt ITER Injector & Concept Advancement). This realization is made with the main contribution of the European Union, through Fusion For Energy, the ITER Organization and Consorzio RFX which hosts the Test Facility. SPIDER is a Radio Frequency ion source that has the same characteristics foreseen for the ITER NBI but with beam energy limited to 100 keV. The mission of SPIDER is to increase the understanding of the source operation and to optimize the source performance in terms of extracted current density, current uniformity and duration. The paper describes the Gas injection and Vacuum System (GVS) starting from the analysis of the requirements and going through the detailed design and the procurement of the system up to the site acceptance tests. In particular the rationale behind the main design choices are presented and some manufacturing details of the gas injection plant feeding the RF source is given. Furthermore, the sensor system dedicated to the measurement of the vacuum level, gas pressure and throughput and the residual gas analysis are described considering the interfaces with the PRIMA interlock and safety system. Reference is also made to safety aspects concerning the presence of H2/D2 in a closed environment as the SPIDER bioshield is.

Abstract

The ITER Neutral Beam Test Facility (NBTF), called PRIMA (Padova Research on ITER Megavolt Accelerator), is hosted in Padova, Italy and includes two experiments: MITICA, the full-scale prototype of the ITER heating neutral beam injector, and SPIDER, the full-size radio frequency negative-ions source. The NBTF realization and the exploitation of SPIDER and MITICA have been recognized as necessary to make the future operation of the ITER heating neutral beam injectors efficient and reliable, fundamental to the achievement of thermonuclear-relevant plasma parameters in ITER. This paper reports on design and R&D carried out to construct PRIMA, SPIDER and MITICA, and highlights the huge progress made in just a few years, from the signature of the agreement for the NBTF realization in 2011, up to now - when the buildings and relevant infrastructures have been completed, SPIDER is entering the integrated commissioning phase and the procurements of several MITICA components are at a well advanced stage

Abstract

SPIDER is one of two projects of the ITER Neutral Beam Test Facility under construction in Padova, Italy, at the Consorzio RFX premises. It will have a 100 keV beam source with a full-size prototype of the radiofrequency ion source for the ITER neutral beam injector (NBI) and also, similar to the ITER diagnostic neutral beam, it is designed to operate with a pulse length of up to 3600 s, featuring an ITER-like magnetic filter field configuration (for high extraction of negative ions) and caesium oven (for high production of negative ions) layout as well as a wide set of diagnostics. These features will allow a reproduction of the ion source operation in ITER, which cannot be done in any other existing test facility. SPIDER realization is well advanced and the first operation is expected at the beginning of 2018, with the mission of achieving the ITER heating and diagnostic NBI ion source requirements and of improving its performance in terms of reliability and availability. Abstract

Substantial progresses have been achieved in the realization of the ITER Neutral Beam Test Facility (NBTF) hosted in Padova, Italy; the buildings, completed by the end of 2015, are being progressively filled with new systems and components. The realization of SPIDER, the ITER full-size negative ion source, is well advanced and important progress is also recorded for MITICA, the full-scale prototype of the ITER HNB injector. The paper gives an overview of the achieved results, highlighting the main challenges faced.

Abstract

Offshore wind energy is an alternative energy source of increased interest. A large offshore wind farms have been planned or under construction, mainly in northern Europe. One of the points needed to be able to implement offshore projects is to characterize and model the wind for marine generation. Models are needed for the design of the most appropriate control strategies. Some attempts have been done to do so; recently these models are implemented under a wind turbine block set in Matlab/Simulink. A handicap has been detected: adjustment of wind turbulence using a white noise function. In this paper, a modification of that model is presented, based on real data and a wind model block in Matlab/Simulink has been performed to implement a new noise function with better results than the standard white noise function.

Abstract

Los autores desarrollan su modelos de sistema alimentario global, pesentado conceptualmente en anteriores publicaciones, basado en cuatro ejes basicos (disonibilidad, economia, politica y saber) dandole una estructura compresnbile, abierta y en la que se la plica una metodologia matematica que permite conocer la evolucion de los parametros y su prospectiva. Para ello, en el presente trabajo se pasa de los conceptos cualitativos a los cuantitativos. Cada eje se descompine, en tres subejes dando un total de 12, que identifican aspectos especificos de los pirimarios y que definen en este espacio las actividades y conceptos fundmentales del sistema agroalimentario y de tal forma que puedan seguir desarrollandose sus contenidos en aspectos de aun mas detalle, en un desarrollo fractal de base tetraedica. Para cada subeje se propone un primer parametro de evaluacion en base a valores en unidades, obtenibles en unidades de tiempo, habitualmente anos, de datos fiables publicados y compatibles con el modelo de estudios evolutivos y prospectivos presentados en el que se propone una variable vectorial para cada eje que toma valores en el simplex de tres partes y ajuste a un modelo lineal en coordenadas ILR (isometric logratio transformation). El modelo normaliza una estructura que da relieve al espacio agroalimentario global y perminte realizar estrategias propsectivas sobre el mismo en cada parametro y entre ellos. The authors develop their model of global food system, presented conceptually ine arlier publications, based on four basic axes (availability, economy, politics and knowledge) to give it an understandable open structure, and applying a mathematical methodology to it to enable the evolution of the parameters and its prospects to be known. To this end, this current study goes beyond the qualitative concepts to the quantitative ones. Each axis is broken down into three sub-axes giving a total of 12, that identify specific aspects of the primary ones and define the fundamental activities and concepts of the agri-food system in this space and in such a way that their contents can be developed further in even greater detail, in a fractal development on a tetrahedral base. A first evaluation parameter is proposed for each sub-axis based on values in units, that can be obtained, time units, years usually, from reliable published data and compatible with the model of evolutionary and prospective studies presented in which a variable vector for each axis is proposed that takes values in the simplex of three parts and adjusted to a lineal model in ILR ( isometric logratio transformation) coordinates. The model standardises a structure that highlights the global agri-food area and allows prospective strategies to be carried out the same subject, on each parameter or between them.

Abstract

The ITER project requires additional heating by two neutral beam injectors, each accelerating to 1 MV a 40 A beam of negative deuterium ions, to deliver to the plasma a power of about 17 MW for one hour. As these requirements have never been experimentally met, it was recognized as necessary to setup a test facility, PRIMA (Padova Research on ITER Megavolt Accelerator), in Italy, including a full-size negative ion source, SPIDER, and a prototype of the whole ITER injector, MITICA, aiming to develop the heating injectors to be installed in ITER. This realization is made with the main contribution of the European Union, through the Joint Undertaking for ITER (F4E), the ITER Organization and Consorzio RFX which hosts the Test Facility. The Japanese and the Indian ITER Domestic Agencies (JADA and INDA) participate in the PRIMA enterprise; European laboratories, such as IPP-Garching, KIT-Karlsruhe, CCFE-Culham, CEA-Cadarache and others are also cooperating. Presently, the assembly of SPIDER is on-going and the MITICA design is being completed. The paper gives a general overview of the test facility and of the status of development of the MITICA and SPIDER main components at this important stage of the overall development; then it focuses on the latest and most critical issues, regarding both physics and technology, describing the identified solutions.

Abstract

El triaje es un proceso que permite una gestión del riesgo clínico para poder manejar adecuadamente y con seguridad los flujos de pacientes cuando la demanda y las necesidades clínicas superan a los recursos. Actualmente se utilizan sistemas de triaje estructurado con cinco niveles de prioridad que se asignan asumiendo el concepto de que lo urgente no siempre es grave y lo grave no es siempre urgente y hacen posible clasificar a los pacientes a partir del «grado de urgencia», de tal modo que los pacientes más urgentes serán asistidos primero y el resto serán reevaluados hasta ser vistos por el médico. El sistema español de triaje (SET) y el sistema de triaje Manchester (MTS) son los dos sistemas normalizados de mayor implantación en nuestro país, pero analizamos también el sistema de triaje elaborado en Navarra que se integra en la historia clínica informatizada (HCI) y que se utiliza en toda la red pública hospitalaria de Navarra. Todos son sistemas multidisciplinares basados en motivos y en la urgencia de la consulta pero no en diagnósticos y son llevados a cabo por enfermería con apoyo médico puntual. También todos incorporan elementos de monitorización de la calidad del propio servicio de urgencias y cuentan con proyección para poder ser aplicados en el ámbito extrahospitalario. «Triage» is a process that enables us to manage clinical risk in order to safely and suitably handle patient flows when demand and clinical needs exceed resources. At present, triage systems that are employed are structured according to five levels of priority. Levels are allocated according to the concept that what is urgent is not always serious and that what is serious is not always urgent. This makes it possible to classify patients according to «degree of urgency», so that the more urgent patients will be attended to first and the rest will be re-evaluated until they are seen by the doctor. The Spanish triage system (SET) and the Manchester triage system (MTS) are the two standardised systems most implemented in our country. We also discuss the system of triage devised in Navarre - integrated in the computerised clinical history- and used in the hospital network of Navarre. All are multidisciplinary systems based on the reasons and urgency of consultation, but not on diagnoses, and are carried out by nursing staff with medical support when required. In addition, they all include monitoring of the quality of the accident and emergency service itself, and can be applied in the outpatient field.

Abstract

Carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning is a frequent pathology in Emergency Departments (ED) that many times it is not diagnosed due to the lack of a specific clinical presentation, and the lack of co-oximeters in the ED as well as the gas ́own characteristics (odorless, colorless and non irritating). CO is produced by the incomplete combustion of organic materia, it binds to hemoglobin, impairing oxygen transport troughout the tissues and the cytocrome- oxidase, thus generating a multiorganic disfunction, particularly over the Central Nervous System. Cardiovascular involvement is less frequent and is a less known risk by sanitary personnel, the reason why it is of special interest to present a case of acute coronary syndrome associated to severe CO intoxication., La intoxicación por monóxido de carbono (CO) es una patología frecuente en los Servicios de Urgencias que muchas veces no se diagnostica debido a la presentación clínica inespecífica, a la baja disponibilidad de co-oxímetros en los Laboratorios de Urgencias y a las características propias del gas (incoloro, inodoro y no irritante). El CO es un gas producido por la combustión incompleta de la materia orgánica, que se une a la hemoglobina, dificultando el transporte de oxígeno a los tejidos, y a la citocromo-oxidasa, generando una disfunción multiorgánica, en particular sobre el SNC. La afectación cardiovascular es menos frecuente y es un riesgo menos conocido entre los sanitarios, por lo que nos parece de interés presentar un caso de síndrome coronario agudo asociado a una intoxicación grave por CO.
