The COVID-19 pandemic is likely to have short- and long-term psycho-social consequences on individuals besides serious physical and mental effects, especially for young people. These days, when psychological problems are more noticeable, especially in young athletes, it is possible to trigger various anxiety disorders such as depression, anxiety, and stress caused by the pandemic. Considering that psychological characteristics such as depression, anxiety, and stress in young people may increase the risk of psycho-social disorders, this study aims to examine the effect of the fear of COVID-19 on the depression, anxiety, and stress levels of undergraduate athlete students and to seek an answer to the question of whether psychological resilience has a mediating role. The research was carried out with 372 athlete students studying at the undergraduate level and continuing their sports lives actively. Structural equation modeling was used to determine the direct and indirect predictive effects between variables in data analysis. The results of the study show that psychological resilience has a significant predictor effect on depression, anxiety, and stress.

Objective: This study aims to investigate the effect of video-assisted patient education (VPE) on knee functions, quality of life (QoL) and decrease complications in total knee replacement (TKR) patients.Methods: This study is designed as a prospective, parallel, two-arm, randomized clinical trial. It included 44 patients who underwent elective TKR at an orthopedics and traumatology clinic. The VPE group received VPE including early postoperative care for TKR, activities of daily living, and gradual exercise program in addition to the existing routine care at the clinic. The control group received only routine care. The results were collected with Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) and Short Form-36 (SF-36) scores measured at baseline, 1st and 3rd months after TKR. Results: The mean scores of the VPE group on the pain, stiffness, and physical function of the WOMAC were significantly lower in 3rd month after TKR than the control group. The VPE group had significantly higher scores than the control group on SF-36 of all subcategories except pain, emotional role, and mental health in 3rd month after TKR.Conclusion: The VPE can improve knee function and QoL in TKR patients. Nurses can use the VPE method in patients to improve knee functions and QoL after TKR.

A plethora of research emphasizes the importance of performance feedback as an adaptive way to improve the outcomes of undergraduate students. However, research on negative performance feedback (i.e. communicating the results of a critical assessment related to student performance) and the potential unintended negative consequences remains fragmented and non-comprehensive. The current systematic review provides an integrative synthesis of the literature that details the unintended negative consequences of negative performance feedback on undergraduate students. It also identifies the contexts in which these consequences are more likely to occur. Using the 36 articles that fit the study's search criteria, we found negative effects on self-efficacy, cognition, affect, and behavior. These factors were moderated by the characteristics of the feedback provider and the feedback receiver, the feedback style, and demographic variables. Based on our review, we propose a new integrative model. This study contributes to the literature and practice of teaching and learning by providing educators with an up-to-date review of negative feedback. It also provides a multidisciplinary examination and identifies future research directions.

ABSTRACT The Euphrates Softshell Turtle (Rafetus euphraticus) is an endangered freshwater turtle native to the Tigris‐Euphrates river system. Habitat destruction caused by dams and sand mining poses a major threat to the species. This study quantitatively assesses the occurrence of sandy areas in the upper Tigris in Turkey as a key component of their nesting habitat, utilizing remote sensing data. An ensemble approach was employed, applying and combining Generalized Additive Models (GAM), Generalized Boosting Models (GBM), Generalized Linear Models (GLM), and Random Forests (RF) for classification. The models indicate that, compared to 2018, the occurrence of sandbanks—assumed to be crucial nesting habitat for this species—was reduced by 41% in 2022 following the construction of a large dam. Additionally, sand mining and flooding of adjacent lands have fragmented and degraded the remaining sandbanks. The survival of the Turkish population of the Euphrates Softshell Turtle requires immediate and effective action.

In this paper, we introduce general sequence of twice-iterated [Formula: see text]-(degenerate) Gould–Hopper Appell polynomials (TI-DGHAP) via discrete [Formula: see text]-Gould–Hopper Appell convolution. We obtain some of their characteristic properties such as explicit representation, determinantal representation, recurrence relation, lowering operator (LO), raising operator (RO), difference equation (DE), integro-partial lowering operator (IPLO), integro-partial raising operator (IPRO) and integro-partial difference equation (IPDE). As special cases of these general polynomials, we present TI degenerate Gould–Hopper Bernoulli polynomials, TI degenerate Gould–Hopper Poisson–Charlier polynomials, TI degenerate Gould–Hopper Boole polynomials and TI degenerate Gould–Hopper Poisson–Charlier–Boole polynomials. We also state their corresponding characteristic properties.

Abstract This paper proposes an extended state observer (ESO)‐based second‐order sliding mode control (SMC) for dynamic voltage restorers (DVRs). Unlike the conventional first‐order SMC and some second‐order SMC (SOSMC) methods that suffer from chattering, the proposed control method can alleviate chattering and achieve finite‐time convergence. Chattering suppression (i.e. eliminating discontinuities) is achieved via continuous control input which is also used to generate the pulse width modulation signals. However, while removing the discontinuities in the control input, the performance of the control method is degraded when it is subjected to disturbances. Therefore, an active disturbance rejection (ADR) based on an ESO is proposed to enhance the performance. In addition, an advanced single‐phase phase‐locked loop (PLL) using linear observer and quasi‐type‐1 PLL is also proposed. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified through simulation and experimental results which are compared with the results of the existing SMC methods applied to DVR.

ABSTRACT: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of Enterococcus faecium 669 supplementation on performance, health, parasitological, microbiological, and hematological responses of preweaning dairy calves. Forty-two newborn Holstein female calves (initial body weight [BW] 44 ± 4.5 kg) were used in the present study. At birth, calves were ranked by initial BW and assigned to 1 of 2 treatment groups: (1) whole milk (CON; n = 21) and (2) whole milk with the addition of direct-fed microbial Ent. faecium 669 (DFM; n = 21). During the entire experimental period (63 d), DFM was daily-fed at a rate of 2.5 × 109 cfu/head. All calves were offered a mixture of a starter feed and wheat straw for ad libitum consumption. Supplement intake was evaluated daily, whereas calves were weighed on a weekly basis from d 0 to weaning (d 63). Diarrhea was assessed once a day, and fecal and blood samples were collected for microbiological, parasitological, and hematological responses. All data were analyzed with SAS using calf as the experimental unit. A treatment × week interaction was observed for BW, as DFM-supplemented calves were heavier than CON cohorts on d 56 (+ 4.7 kg) and at weaning on d 63 (+ 4.8 kg). A similar interaction was observed for average daily gain (ADG) and dry matter intake (DMI), with greater ADG for DFM-supplemented calves from d 35 to 42, greater ADG and DMI from d 49 to 56, and greater DMI from d 56 to weaning. Moreover, diarrhea occurrence tended to be lower, whereas rectal temperature was 0.2°C lower for DFM-supplemented calves. Treatment × day interactions were observed for the occurrence and counts of Eimeria spp., as DFM-supplemented calves tended to have a reduced number of positive observations on d 42 of the study versus CON, and a significant reduction in positive animals from d 21 to 42 was observed in the DFM group but not in CON calves. For Cryptosporidium spp., no treatment effects were observed on overall occurrence (%), but DFM-supplemented calves had a greater count of oocyst per gram versus CON. No treatment × day interaction or main treatment effects were observed for any of the blood variables analyzed herein, exception being monocytes concentration. In summary, preweaning Ent. faecium 669 supplementation improved performance, diarrhea occurrence, and reduced the number of calves positively-detected for Eimeria spp.

Psychological capital, which is one of the developing areas of positive organizational behavior, is seen as a psychological resource that can encourage development and performance among employees. In the field of sports education, increasing the psychological capital levels of the employees and increasing the performance and job satisfaction can be effective. The aim of this study is to determine the psychological capital, job performance and job satisfaction levels of academic staff working in higher education institutions offering sports education in terms of various variables and to examine the relationship between them. The study sample consisted of a total of 122 sports science academicians, including 30 female and 92 males, who worked in different regions of Turkey. The Organizational Psychological Capital Scale, Job Performance and Job Satisfaction Scales were used as data collection tools in the study. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Tukey HSD and correlation test. According to the findings obtained in the research, a high level of positive correlation was found between the psychological capital dimensions and job performance. Again, a moderately positive correlation was found between the psychological resilience, hope and self-efficacy dimensions of the psychological capital and job satisfaction.

Brucellosis is a widespread zoonotic disease of veterinary and public health importance with considerably higher prevalence in developing/underdeveloped countries. This study reports the prevalence and risk determinants of brucellosis in small ruminants of peri-urban and rural areas of district Multan, Southern Punjab, Pakistan. For this purpose, sera samples (n = 392) of small ruminants were collected and subjected to preliminary screening using commercially available RBPT reagents followed by serodetection of brucellosis using multispecies i-ELISA kit (ID.vet, France). All the ELISA positive samples were confirmed by PCR using genus-specific primers, and frequencies of Brucella species in positive samples were enumerated using species-specific primers. Results indicated seropositivity rates of 9.69, 9.95, and 10.20% in study population using RBPT reagents of IDEXX-USA, ID.Vet-France, and VRI-Pakistan, respectively, with a statistically nonsignificant difference p>0.05. Results of ELISA showed an overall seroprevalence rate of 7.14% in target population with a slightly higher rate in sheep (7.65%) as compared to goat (6.63%) population (p=0.695; OR = 1.16, 95% CI = 0.53, 2.57). Results revealed that out of total positive samples, B. abortus was detected in 60.71% of seropositive samples and B. melitensis was detected in 14.28% of positive samples. It was revealed that risk factors including body condition scores, hygienic conditions of the housing facility, farming system, reproductive disorders, educational status of farmers, and awareness of farmers about brucellosis had significant association with brucellosis in small ruminants of study area p0.05 with brucellosis. In conclusion, brucellosis is prevalent in small ruminants of Multan, Pakistan. It is recommended to devise and implement effective control strategies with a major focus on raising awareness about brucellosis in farmers for the containment of infection in the region.

Objective:Short bowel syndrome (SBS) is a serious and chronic disorder of inadequate absorption of nutrients and fluid from the intestines. The most significant symptom of SBS is malnutrition. Weight loss due to malnutrition raised the morbidity and mortality rates of patients to a disappointing level. The use of making longitudinal gastrojejunostomy is a technique to grow neomucosa or intestinal metaplasia in the gastric mucosal surface and increase the intestinal transit time.Method:Three groups (Sham, SBS, longitudinal gastrojejunostomy) were created for 24 Wistar-Hannover rats. The 1st group was determined as the Sham group. SBS was induced in animals in group 2 with appropriate intestinal resection. Longitudinal gastrojejunostomy was additionally performed in rats with SBS in group 3. At the end of the 14th day all rats were weighted, euthanized, and blood sample was collected and anastomotic parts were resected for histopathological examination.Results:Weight loss was significantly less in group 3 and vitamin B12 and GLP-2 levels were significantly higher in group 3 compared to group 2. Longitudinal antiperistaltic gastrojejunostomy promotes intestinal metaplasia in the gastric mucosa and increased the absorption surface.Conclusion:This surgical procedure can be used to increase the absorption surface area in SBS. However, this needs to be supported by sufficiently robust clinical trials.

Abstract A proportional‐resonant (PR)‐based current control strategy for grid‐connected packed‐E cell (PEC) inverter is presented. Unlike the existing control strategies, which are based on proportional‐integral controller, developed for packed‐U cell and PEC inverters, the proposed PR‐based control strategy achieves zero steady‐state error in the grid current. Furthermore, it eliminates the necessity of employing the control loop for regulating the dc capacitor voltages. Also, the grid current synchronization is achieved by using a Lyapunov filter‐based phase locked loop (PLL). The consequence of using Lyapunov filter‐based PLL is that sinusoidal synchronization signal can be extracted from the distorted grid voltage. The performances of the proposed control strategy under steady‐state, load variation and non‐ideal grid voltage are investigated on a laboratory‐scale experimental prototype. It is reported that the control of both dc‐ and ac‐side variables of the system are accomplished.

English as a lingua franca (ELF) is a recent paradigm in ELT which acknowledges non-native varieties in their own right and NNSs as having their own unique characteristics rather than assessing them against an NS benchmark. Despite the changing needs of today's English language learners, there is little research on how to integrate ELF into pre-service teacher education programmes and English language teaching practice since there is a theory-practice gap due to lack of clear pedagogical descriptions and concrete classroom-driven data. This study presents an intensive educational model for pre-service teachers aiming to raise their awareness of the pedagogy of ELF, synthesizing theory with practice. It investigates how prospective teachers exposed to the ELF-aware teacher education model integrated ELF into their teaching and their viewpoints about the process. The entire process has been reported to contribute significantly to the participants' professional development as well as presenting several challenges.

Aim:As far as we have investigated, although there are researches on QT and QTc interval, there are no studies evaluating T wave peak-to-end distance (Tp-e interval), the ratio of Tp-e to QT and QTc used in the evaluation of cardiac arrhythmia risk and ventricular repolarization changes in patients with hypoxia due to hypertensive pulmonary edema. Therefore, in this study was aimed to study whether there is a change in Tp-e interval, the ratio of Tp-e to QTc in hypoxia due to hypertensive pulmonary edema.Materials and Methods:Forty patients diagnosed with hypertensive pulmonary edema in the emergency room were included in the study retrospectively. Forty patients with similar age and gender distribution were included in the study as a control group. All patients underwent 12-lead electrocardiography (ECG). In addition to the routine measurements, Tp-e interval, the ratio of Tp-e to QTc were measured in ECG.
