In the current study we used telehealth to train six educators from three rural schools to conduct multiple stimulus without replacement (MSWO) preference assessments. Three of the educators were subsequently trained to implement functional analysis (FA) of problem behavior. Behavioral skills training (BST) was used to teach each educator to conduct the assessment procedures with an adult confederate. After mastering the procedures in the training context, each participant implemented the MSWO and FA with a student diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in their school who was referred for the assessment and treatment of problem behavior. Results indicated that BST delivered via telehealth was an effective way to train educators to implement these two behavior-analytic assessment procedures. Each student's MSWO identified preferred items and each FA indicated a social function of the problem behavior. We validated the results of these assessment procedures by coaching the educators to implement a functional communication training (FCT) program with their student. With FCT in place, the educators reduced their student's problem behaviors by an average of 90.6%. Each educator rated the telehealth procedures for learning the MSWO, FA, and FCT as highly acceptable. This study compared the effects of a conventional approach and a progressive approach to discrete trial teaching when teaching tact relations to 12 children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The conventional approach was informed by best practice guidelines for teaching receptive and expressive language (Green Focus on Autism and Other Developmental Disabilities, 16(2), 72-85, 2001 (See CR12); Grow & Leblanc Behavior Analysis in Practice, 6(1), 56-75, 2013 (See CR14)) and other relevant research (e.g., Graff & Karsten Behavior Analysis in Practice, 5(2), 37-48, 2012 (See CR11); León & Rosales Journal of Behavioral Education, 27(1), 81-100, 2018 (See CR31); Majdalany et al. Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, 47(3), 657-662, 2014 (See CR36)). The progressive approach was informed by guidelines outlined by Leaf, Cihon, Leaf, et al. Understanding how different environmental arrangements can affect academic performance and engagement is critical for developing effective and efficient instructional strategies. The current study examined the influence of five environmental arrangements (no-interaction, distractor, escape, attention, and tangible conditions) on the rate of correctly completed math problems for four children diagnosed with ASD who had individual education plans (IEP). The results suggest that different students' academic behavior is sensitive to different environmental arrangements and, as such, should be tested and incorporated into students' IEPs.
