Abstract

The article presents a study which investigated the prevalence and risk factors of HIV or sexually transmitted infections (STI) among miners in Yunnan, China. The study conducted a cross-sectional evaluation of 1,798 miners in two townships of Gejiu City, Yunnan from March to May 2006. Results show that miners who have visited female sex workers (FSXs) have high prevalence of HIV and any STI including Chlamaydia trachomatis, syphilis, and herpes.

Abstract

The article presents a longitudinal study among female sex workers (FSWs) in Yunnnan Sheng, China, wherein they were interviewed and tested for HIV and STDs. It states that the factors related to HIV-testing history and HIV-test follow-up analyzed were examined. Furthermore, it points out that immediate action must be considered to improve the use of HIV testing services and inform people about their HIV status.
