In the August 1959 issue of "Marriage and Family Livings" authors described a method for studying the influence of family culture patterns on attitudes and behavior of teenagers. Here they present some of the results they have obtained from use of this method in evaluating the influence of selected facets of family culture on delinquent-type behavior reported by 3,242 teen-age students in the state of Washington. The great majority of respondents acknowledged having committed one or more delinquent-type acts one or more times. A considerable number had committed many such acts many times. Considering all five acts in combination it was possible to classify respondents into categories with characteristic patterns of delinquent-type behavior. Substantial differences were found between boys and girls. Boys were much more likely than girls to be in the delinquent-type category. Evidence was found that family values and standards are related to delinquent-types behavior.
