Hylogger-2 reflectance spectroscopy data from two drill holes at the Leven Star gold deposit, provides an insight into the hydrothermal alteration associated with vein sets and faults that host gold mineralisation. The metasedimentary host rock is a biotite-rich hornfels, which overprints a regional greenschist facies metamorphism. Gold mineralisation is associated with quartz (±carbonate) stockwork-breccia zones. HyLogging short-wave infrared reflectance spectra detected carbonates, chlorites, epidote (propylitic: carbonatisation, chloritisation, epidote), muscovite (phyllic/sericitic) and kaolinite, illite, ammonium alunite, montmorillonite and dickite (intermediate argillic alteration) assemblages that were confirmed using petrographic observations, drill core and geochemical data. The gold occurs within a sulfidation halo with carbonate phases (ankerite–siderite–dolomite) in structurally controlled veins and faults, which also host a late Sb–As–Bi–Cu–W assemblage, attributed to an intrusion-related style of mineralisation superimposed on a hydrothermal orogenic gold event. There is a continuing debate within juvenile justice between the approaches of welfare and justice. Those advancing these arguments often present young people as a deviant group who should be punished by tough measures such as detention, or as victims who require social support rather than criminal sanctions. This, however, may exaggerate the seriousness of offending and the severity of the response in the majority of cases that come before children's courts. Drawing on observational research in Tasmania and Victoria, this article describes the minor cases that come before magistrates, and the considerations employed in sentencing. The article argues that what takes place in children's courts can equally well be understood as culture contact, in which adults spend considerable effort trying to socialise the young, often with limited success. This ethnographic approach has implications for those advocating greater intervention in the lives of young offenders, even if this is targeted at those most at risk. The occurrence of plastic ingestion by fish is increasing around the world, however there are currently very few studies focusing on the ingestion of macro (>20 mm) and mega (>100 mm) plastics in pelagic predatory fish, particularly in Australian waters. Further to this, information on plastic ingestion in recreationally caught fish is deficient. We report on two cases of macroplastic ingestion and another case of megaplastic ingestion by southern bluefin tuna Thunnus maccoyii (Castelnau, 1872), caught recreationally in Tasmania and Victoria. The plastics ingested ranged from 62 to 283 mm. Despite the large obstructive shapes of the pieces of plastic, all three specimens possessed a healthy body mass, with one actively feeding at the time of capture. These preliminary records contribute to the limited information on the effects of plastic pollution on high value recreationally and commercially important pelagic fish in Australia.
