Gaelic is an endangered language, but the traditional music associated with it thrives. Among individuals committed to learning Gaelic as a heritage language who also engage in traditional music-making, intense experiences shape the connection between language and music. The present study examines the connection between intensely motivating 'flow' experiences in music and language using qualitative data. In this context, flow is defined both at the individual level, consistent with much of the literature, but also at the group level which contributes a more nuanced, group-oriented conceptualisation of flow experiences. Data come from a sample of 54 participants recruited via social media and associated with traditional music and Gaelic language. The results show the depth of connection to traditional music developed over years that appears to feed into a motivation for language learning. The concept of group flow is prevalent in the descriptions, even though it was not measured directly. Group flow offers a nuanced lens through which to view how the connection between music and language developed in a context where language revitalisation is taking place.

Social capital has recently emerged as an effective approach to rethink schools as wider learning ecosystems where students, teachers and families have greater access to learning resources through social interaction. Literature has not provided research-based assessment tools that document school leaders' abilities to weave social relationships between actors within the school and across the community. This paper presents an international experts' validation of the SchoolWeavers Tool, an online resource that supports school leaders to assess the health and potential of their school ecosystem and provides meaningful feedback to weave social and professional capital and lift learning opportunities and educational goals. Theoretical validation was conducted in the first round by 15 experts from 8 countries with prior experience in network leadership in education, and in the second round, with 54 school actors from the same 8 countries. The final model provides an internationally validated tool that supports school leaders' capacities to improve collective effectiveness, internal and external collaboration, innovation and equity. Furthermore, the Tool creates research opportunities by allowing school leaders and researchers to collaborate and support systemic impact and sustainable improvement.

This paper compares Malaysia's Multimedia Super-corridor (MSC) and New York's Silicon Alley to assess whether state-led development of digital districts is a viable alternative to neo-liberal approaches. The changing nature of east Asia's developmental states as they adopt neo-liberal elements (such as venture capital) casts doubt on the idea that east Asian cities are 'embedded' in developmental frameworks. Using actor-network theory to conceptualise the nesting of cities as processes of 'translation', the paper examines how state frameworks in the US and Malaysia shaped the respective efforts of district entrepreneurs to weave together ideas, resources and relationships. The findings confirm actor-network theory's claim that the significance of a particular element depends on the network it becomes enmeshed in. In the case of Silicon Alley, neo-liberal regimes did not directly participate but promoted devices (such as venture capital, options) that enabled venture capitalists to bring together myriad enterpreneurs. In contrast, the Malaysian state, which is deemed a 'developmental hybrid', devised a comprehensive plan for the MSC and itself used devices such as venture capital to enrol participants. Justiciability doctrines are intertwined with constitutional commands and prudential concerns. They weave together text and history; they aim to protect democracy and individual rights. In 2019, the Supreme Court, in Rucho v. Common Cause, determined that partisan gerrymandering claims suffer from justiciability problems by implicating a doctrinal subpart--the political question doctrine. Within its decision, the Court intended to calm fears that the decision would reach too far, so it wrote that other types of politically implicated claims were not impacted. For example, one-person, one-vote claims are still justiciable, the Court wrote, because they are "relatively easy to administer as a matter of math." But, beyond one-person, one-vote claims, where else is math "relatively easy"? Multiple courts are now struggling to answer this question across diverse legal problems. This Essay proposes an analytic framework to ease that struggle and answer that question: the mathematical question doctrine. In turn, this Essay defines the contours, shows its advantages, and reconceptualizes Rucho. First, it explores the background of the political question doctrine and articulates a set of its justifications. Second, it explains how those justifications flare when courts need to consider math, but it rejects a categorical treatment. Instead, the Essay enumerates factors at the core of a mathematical question: the complexity of math, numerosity of variables, and ease of quantifiability. It roots these factors within the jurisprudential justifications of the political question doctrine and shows their problematic traits. Third, the Essay revisits Rucho to show that although the proposed approach is consistent with caselaw, it is more fully fleshed out, better explains the approach and outcome of Rucho, and gives useful guidance to future courts.
