The article features several national and regional bryophyte records. These bryophyte records include Bucklandiella crispipila, an Afro-American tropical montane species, widely distributed but scattered in Central and South America, Dicranella hookeri, a pan-south-temperate species that is widely distributed in southern South America, south-eastern Australia and New Zealand, and Dicranella dietrichiae, an Australasian endemic, widely distributed in eastern Australia. Background: Myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) is a debilitating disease which involves multiple body systems (e.g., immune, nervous, digestive, circulatory) and research domains (e.g., immunology, metabolomics, the gut microbiome, genomics, neurology). Despite several decades of research, there are no established ME/CFS biomarkers available to diagnose and treat ME/CFS. Sharing data and integrating findings across these domains is essential to advance understanding of this complex disease by revealing diagnostic biomarkers and facilitating discovery of novel effective therapies., Methods: The National Institutes of Health funded the development of a data sharing portal to support collaborative efforts among an initial group of three funded research centers. This was subsequently expanded to include the global ME/CFS research community. Using the open-source comprehensive knowledge archive network (CKAN) framework as the base, the ME/CFS Data Management and Coordinating Center developed an online portal with metadata collection, smart search capabilities, and domain-agnostic data integration to support data findability and reusability while reducing the barriers to sustainable data sharing., Results: We designed the mapMECFS data portal to facilitate data sharing and integration by allowing ME/CFS researchers to browse, share, compare, and download molecular datasets from within one data repository. At the time of publication, mapMECFS contains data curated from public data repositories, peer-reviewed publications, and current ME/CFS Research Network members., Conclusions: mapMECFS is a disease-specific data portal to improve data sharing and collaboration among ME/CFS researchers around the world. mapMECFS is accessible to the broader research community with registration. Purpose: To explore the role of the birth center model of care in rural health and maternity care delivery in the United States., Methods: All childbearing families enrolled in care at an American Association of Birth Centers Perinatal Data Registry TM user sites between 2012 and 2020 are included in this descriptive analysis., Findings: Between 2012 and 2020, 88 574 childbearing families enrolled in care with 82 American Association of Birth Centers Perinatal Data Registry TM user sites. Quality outcomes exceeded national benchmarks across all geographic regions in both rural and urban settings. A stable and predictable rate of transfer to a higher level of care was demonstrated across geographic regions, with over half of the population remaining appropriate for birth center level of care throughout the perinatal episode of care. Controlling for socio demographic and medical risk factors, outcomes were as favorable for clients in rural areas compared with urban and suburban communities., Conclusions: Rural populations cared for within the birth center model of care experienced high-quality outcomes., Health Policy Implications: A major focus of the United States maternity care reform should be the expansion of access to birth center models of care, especially in underserved areas such as rural communities., (© 2020 The Authors. As reported in the Bulletin at various times over the past several years, the American College of Surgeons has frequently been called upon by federal agencies and commissions to provide clinical information and advice on issues that are associated with implementation of the Medicare physician payment system reforms mandated by the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1989 (OBRA '89). In doing so, the College has often relied on the expertise of Fellows who are deeply committed both to the practice of general surgery and to the College. The purpose of this article is to provide a review of the College's participation in activities related to implementation of the Medicare reforms, as viewed by some of the general surgeons who shared in those efforts.
