The article offers an analysis of the New Labour party, which came to power in Great Britain beginning in 1997 and faces an election in May 2010. It notes salient characteristics of New Labour's hegemony, including its longevity, its strong commitment to the free market, and its support of U.S. military aggressions in Kosovo, Afghanistan and Iraq. It notes that New Labour's rise depended on the collapse of the Conservative Party, which is re-emerging in the 2010 election. New Labour's reign, it notes, was founded on the long economic boom which ended in 2008 as various asset bubbles burst, along with the widespread support of New Labor. The article analyzes the party's record, its condition going into the election, and the character of the Tory party opposition.
