Most graduate students in higher education are classified as adult learners, being 24 years old, and have responsibilities and commitments outside of higher education. This literature review presents how Chinese international graduate students face challenges in the US due to sociocultural, ideological, and educational differences. This systematic literature review explores these students' critical thinking skills, which are crucial factors for academic success but have been underexplored. Three themes were identified as follows: (1) critical thinking education in China, (2) stereotypes of perceived lack of critical thinking, and (3) comparative views of critical thinking between Chinese and American college students. Each theme presents a landscape of how critical thinking is interpreted. Themes suggest several trends, including cultural variations that may impede Chinese international students from showcasing their critical thinking abilities, notwithstanding their inherent capacity for critical thinking. Recommendations include ways to improve critical thinking among international students and call for more comparative studies between Chinese and American college students. The findings offer valuable insights into the internationalization of higher education curricula and the promotion of global learning.

Background: Most health and developmental issues affecting young people are interrelated. However, few interventions address multiple behavioral domains simultaneously or are based on theories that encompass a holistic perspective of youth development. Aim: The purpose of this scoping review was to identify and describe the range of theory-based, multibehavioral health interventions aimed at improving two or more of the following behavioral youth outcomes: (1) sexual and reproductive health; (2) education and employment; (3) violence; and (4) substance use. Methods: Interventions conducted worldwide and published in English or Spanish between January 2000 and July 2020 were identified using four databases: PubMed, PsycINFO, LILACS, and SciELO. Results: A total of 11,084 articles were identified, of which 477 were retrieved and assessed for eligibility. Twenty-three articles (evaluating 21 interventions) ultimately met the inclusion criteria. Most interventions were conducted in the United States and addressed two behavioral domains of interest, although seven interventions incorporated three domains, and one incorporated all four. Substance use was the most common domain (16 interventions) but only in the United States/Canada, followed by sexual and reproductive health (14 interventions). All produced significant improvement in at least one outcome or for at least one subgroup of youth. The most common theoretical foundations were positive youth development and social learning theory. Conclusion: Integrated interventions that are theory based and evidence informed can support positive development and empower youth to make healthy decisions. Further efforts are needed to address structural and policy issues that affect young people's developmental opportunities and health outcomes.

Background: Socioeconomic status (SES) is important in students' reading development. The mechanism of how they are linked, however, is underexplored. Aims: This research aimed to explore whether reading self-concept mediates the link between SES and reading achievement and whether teacher support moderates the direct and indirect link between SES and reading achievement. Samples: Using PISA 2018 database, we selected 17,346 15-year-olds from 537 schools in B-S-J-Z (China) and the United States (U.S.). Methods: Multilevel linear models were calculated to explore the potential mediation of self-concept and the potential moderation of teacher support between SES and reading achievement. Results: Results reveal that reading self-concept mediated the link between SES and reading achievement at student level both in China and the United States, and teacher support moderated the link between SES and reading self-concept both at student level and school level only in China, but not in the United States. Conclusion: Our research highlights the importance of self-concept and teacher support in improving students' reading achievement, especially for students of low SES, which has important theoretical significance and practical enlightenment for reading instruction.

The association of overweight/obesity, and central obesity with thiocyanate (SCN), perchlorate (CIO), and nitrate (NO) in childhood and adolescence is unclear. Therefore, this study aimed to explore this association in 4447 participants comprising children and adolescents (aged 6-19 years) using data from the United States National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2005-2016. SCN level was positively associated with overweight/obesity in both children and adolescents, while CIO level was negatively associated with overweight/obesity only in children; however, no significant association was found for NO level. Similar associations were found between SCN level and central obesity. Thus, our results suggest that SCN exposure was associated with overweight/obesity and central obesity in both children and adolescents, while a negative association was observed for CIO in children. Strategies to monitor the exposure levels and the mechanisms underlying the relationship between exposure and the weight parameters are recommended.

This study examined bidirectional associations between cross-racial friendships and children's social and academic adjustment. Participants were 583 elementary school-age children in western Canada, or the midwestern United States (4-10 years; 279 girls; 143 Asian, 88 Black, 65 Hispanic or Latinx, 171 White, 116 mixed). Children's adjustment (social preference, academic enablers, academic performance) and friendship nominations (reciprocated, received, given) were measured in fall and spring over one school year from 2017 to 2018, or from 2018 to 2019. Regarding "reciprocated" nominations, fall adjustment positively predicted spring reciprocated cross-racial friendships, but not vice-versa. For "received" nominations, academic enablers and received cross-racial friendship nominations were positively and bidirectionally related to one another. Fall same-racial friendship nominations positively predicted spring academic performance and social preference. Effect sizes were small.

Purpose: This paper aims to understand the development track of skills mismatch research and discover the hidden internal connections between literature. Design/methodology/approach: The authors gathered data through scientometric quantitative analysis using CiteSpace. Specifically, this article applied basic analysis, journal cocitation analysis (JCA), author cocitation analysis (ACA) and document cocitation analysis (DCA), cluster analysis, citation burstness detection, scientific research cooperation analysis and coconcurrence analysis of keywords of 3,125 documents from Web of Science core collections for the period 2000-2020. Findings: Through the document cocitation analysis and the keywords' co-occurrence, this article identifies influential scholars, documents, research institutions, journals and research hotspots in research on the skills mismatch phenomenon. The results showed that the publications had ballooned, and the phenomenon has become an interdisciplinary research subject. The USA and Finland remain the main contributors, which is attributed to their high-yield institutions such as the University of Helsinki, the University of Witwatersrand, the University of Washington and so on. While the African continent lacks research on skills mismatch even with the continent's effort to overcome such a crucial issue. The paper presents an in-depth analysis of skills and educational mismatch issues to better understand the evolutionary trajectory of the collective knowledge over the past 20 years and highlight the areas of active pursuit. Research limitations/implications: The authors only used Web of Science core collection to collect data; however, they can added Scopus indexed database as well to extend the research trends and explore more new research hot topics to solve the skills mismatch phenomenon. Originality/value: The scientometric analysis is of great significance for identifying the potential relationship between the literature and investigating the knowledge evolution of skills mismatch research. Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, the International Labor Organization and the World Health Organization are the giants who are mostly concerned of the mismatch skills phenomenon. Researchers can refer to this study to understand the status quo, gaps and research trends to deal with the skills mismatch issue.

Introduction. The correlation between potassium and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is currently still poorly understood. We conducted this study to explore the correlation between dietary potassium intake and NAFLD, as well as advanced hepatic fibrosis (AHF). The study also sought to identify any potential interactions. Methods. The data employed in this study were obtained from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) program, encompassing a period from 2007 to 2018. Employing the multiple logistic regression analysis, we evaluated the association of dietary potassium intake with NAFLD and AHF. Subsequently, stratification analysis, based on demographic variables, was constructed so as to assess the stability of the results. In addition, potential interaction effects were assessed by interaction tests. Results. A total of 9443 participants were included in the analysis. The mean age of the participants was 50.4 years, and their daily mean dietary potassium and vitamin C intake was 2556.49 mg and 82.93 mg, respectively. Following comprehensive statistical analyses, the findings indicated a negative correlation between dietary potassium intake and both NAFLD and AHF. Participants in Q4 group with dietary potassium intake exhibited a 31% and 42% reduction in the odds of developing NAFLD and AHF, respectively, in comparison to Q1 group. An interaction effect of dietary vitamin C intake was observed in the association between dietary potassium intake and NAFLD. The results imply that high dietary vitamin C intake augment the inverse relationship between dietary potassium intake and NAFLD. Conclusion. Dietary potassium intake was found to have an inverse association with the odds of both NAFLD and AHF. Background: Information on the influences of daily eating frequency (DEF) and nighttime fasting duration (NFD) on biological aging is minimal. Our study investigated the potential associations of DEF and NFD with accelerated aging. Methods: Out of 24212 participants in NHANES 2003–2010 and 2015–2018, 4 predicted age metrics [homeostatic dysregulation (HD), Klemera–Doubal method (KDM), phenoAge (PA), and allostatic load (AL)] were computed based on 12 blood chemistry parameters. Utilizing 24-h dietary recall, DEF was measured by the frequency of eating occurrences, while NFD was determined by assessing the timing of the initial and final meals throughout the day. Weighted multivariate linear regression models and restricted cubic spline (RCS) were utilized to examine the associations. Results: Compared to DEF of ≤ 3.0 times, subjects with DEF ≥ 4.6 times demonstrated lower KDM residual [β: -0.57, 95% confidence-interval (CI): (-0.97, -0.17)] and PA residual [β: -0.47, 95% CI: (-0.69, -0.25)]. In comparison to NFD between 10.1 and 12.0 h, individuals with NFD ≤ 10.0 h were at higher HD [β: 0.03, 95% CI: (0.01, 0.04)], KDM residual [β: 0.34, 95% CI: (0.05, 0.63)], and PA residual [β: 0.38, 95% CI: (0.18, 0.57)]. Likewise, those with NFD ≥ 14.1 h also had higher HD [β: 0.02, 95% CI: (0.01, 0.04)] and KDM residual [β: 0.33, 95% CI: (0.03, 0.62)]. The results were confirmed by the dose–response relationships of DEF and NFD with predicted age metrics. Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and globulin (Glo) were acknowledged as implicated in and mediating the relationships. We estimate the pay premium associated with CEO incentive compensation. Using explicit detailed U.S. CEO compensation contract data and simulation analysis, we find that CEOs with riskier pay packages receive a premium for pay at risk that represents 13.5 percent of total pay. The premium is positively correlated with proxies for CEO risk aversion, but implied risk aversion values suggest that the premium is economically smaller than suggested by prior studies. We perform our tests using a variety of proxies to measure the variance of pay and find consistent evidence of economically small pay risk premiums. Introduction: Lung cancer is a significant cause of mortality, especially among smokers. Lung cancer and smoking are strongly associated, according to numerous studies. Methods: Publications related to smoking and lung cancer were retrieved from the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE) database of the Web of Science Core Collection for the period 1994–2023. Descriptive and visual analyses were performed on the topics, journals, countries, institutions, authors, and citations of the publications. Results: A total of 728 articles were retrieved from the Web of Science (WOS) SCIE database for the period January 1994 to December 2023, and the number of publications in the relevant literature demonstrated a progressive increase with time. A total of 647 articles were classified as experimental, while 81 were classified as reviews. The studies were published in 200 journals. The three journals that published the most articles were the American Journal of Epidemiology with 82 articles, Lung Cancer with 34 articles, and Cancer Causes and Control with 26 articles. The three most prolific countries were the United States (286 articles, 38.3%; 15879 citations), China (116 articles, 15.9%; 2911 citations), and France (75 articles, 10.3%; 3694 citations). The four most popular keywords in this field are 'early cancer detection', 'experimental', 'CT', and 'survival rate'. Conclusions: The findings of our study revealed key areas for focus in smoking and lung cancer research, having a view of supplying important data and motivation for further investigations. By benchmarking with the iteration of drilling technology, fracturing technology and well placement mode for shale oil and gas development in the United States and considering the geological characteristics and development difficulties of shale oil in the Jiyang continental rift lake basin, East China, the development technology system suitable for the geological characteristics of shale oil in continental rift lake basins has been primarily formed through innovation and iteration of the development, drilling and fracturing technologies. The technology system supports the rapid growth of shale oil production and reduces the development investment cost. By comparing it with the shale oil development technology in the United States, the prospect of the shale oil development technology iteration in continental rift lake basins is proposed. In an era where air pollution poses a significant threat to both the environment and public health, we present a network-based approach to unravel the dynamics of extreme pollution events. Leveraging data from 741 monitoring stations in the contiguous United States, we have created dynamic networks using time-lagged correlations of hourly particulate matter (PM2.5) data. The established spatial correlation networks reveal significant PM2.5 anomalies during the 2020 and 2021 wildfire seasons, demonstrating the approach's sensitivity to detecting regional pollution phenomena. The methodology also provides insights into smoke transport and network response, highlighting the persistence of air quality issues beyond visible smoke periods. Additionally, we explored meteorological variables' impacts on network connectivity. This study enhances understanding of spatiotemporal pollution patterns, positioning spatial correlation networks as valuable tools for environmental monitoring and public health surveillance. Background: The high prevalence of diabetic kidney disease (DKD) in the United States necessitates further investigation into its impact on complications associated with total hip arthroplasty (THA). This study utilizes a large nationwide database to explore risk factors in DKD cases undergoing THA. Methods: This research utilized a case–control design, leveraging data from the national inpatient sample for the years 2016 to 2019. Employing propensity score matching (PSM), patients diagnosed with DKD were paired on a 1:1 basis with individuals free of DKD, ensuring equivalent age, sex, race, Elixhauser Comorbidity Index (ECI), and insurance coverage. Subsequently, comparisons were drawn between these PSM-matched cohorts, examining their characteristics and the incidence of post-THA complications. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was then employed to evaluate the risk of early complications after surgery. Results: DKD's prevalence in the THA cohort was 2.38%. A 7-year age gap separated DKD and non-DKD patients (74 vs. 67 years, P < 0.0001). Additionally, individuals aged above 75 exhibited a substantial 22.58% increase in DKD risk (49.16% vs. 26.58%, P < 0.0001). Notably, linear regression analysis yielded a significant association between DKD and postoperative acute kidney injury (AKI), with DKD patients demonstrating 2.274-fold greater odds of AKI in contrast with non-DKD individuals (95% CI: 2.091–2.473). Conclusions: This study demonstrates that DKD is a significant risk factor for AKI in patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty. Optimizing preoperative kidney function through appropriate interventions might decrease the risk of poor prognosis in this population. More prospective research is warranted to investigate the potential of targeted kidney function improvement strategies in reducing AKI rates after THA. The findings of this study hold promise for enhancing preoperative counseling by surgeons, enabling them to provide DKD patients undergoing THA with more precise information regarding the risks associated with their condition. Dialysis patients experience frequent hospitalizations and a higher mortality rate compared to other Medicare populations, in whom hospitalizations are a major contributor to morbidity, mortality, and healthcare costs. Patients also typically remain on dialysis for the duration of their lives or until kidney transplantation. Hence, there is growing interest in studying the spatiotemporal trends in the correlated outcomes of hospitalization and mortality among dialysis patients as a function of time starting from transition to dialysis across the United States Utilizing national data from the United States Renal Data System (USRDS), we propose a novel multivariate spatiotemporal functional principal component analysis model to study the joint spatiotemporal patterns of hospitalization and mortality rates among dialysis patients. The proposal is based on a multivariate Karhunen–Loéve expansion that describes leading directions of variation across time and induces spatial correlations among region-specific scores. An efficient estimation procedure is proposed using only univariate principal components decompositions and a Markov Chain Monte Carlo framework for targeting the spatial correlations. The finite sample performance of the proposed method is studied through simulations. Wang and Conway (2006, Autobiographical memory, self, and culture. In L.-G. Nilsson, & N. Ohta (Eds.), Memory and society: Psychological perspectives (pp. 9–27). Psychology Press) posit that remembering takes place in a culturally modulated self-memory system in which working self-goals are shaped by society and, in turn, influence the encoding and construction of memories in a culturally canonical fashion. The current research examined the self-goal of competence, which manifests through self-enhancement versus self-improvement motivations, in influencing remembering in different cultural contexts. We conducted two cross-cultural studies to examine memories for personal successes and failures (Study 1) and autobiographical and vicarious experiences (Study 2) in connection with individuals' positive self-views. European Americans recalled a greater number of success than failure memories (Study 1) and US participants recalled a greater number of autobiographical than vicarious memories (Study 2), which was further associated with positive self-views at the individual level. In contrast, Asian (Study 1) and Chinese participants (Study 2) recalled even-handedly the different types of memories, and the memory retrieval was unrelated to individuals' self-views. Background: Research examining the healthy aging trajectory of retired older adults with multimorbidity is limited, leaving uncertainties regarding the optimal physical activity (PA) intensity and frequency necessary to sustain healthy aging during retirement. Methods: Our study investigated the moderating effects of PA on the healthy aging trajectories of retired older adults living with multimorbidity in the United States (US). We utilized data from 1,238 retired individuals aged 50 to 102 who contributed 11,142 observations over 16 years from the Health and Retirement Study (HRS). We employed mixed effects modeling to assess the impact of various classes of multimorbidity on this group and examine how different PA, PA intensities, and PA frequencies influence the disability, physical, and cognitive functioning domains of healthy aging. Results: The results reveal that while outcomes differed significantly, retired older adults in the US attained healthy aging at baseline. However, their ability to maintain healthy aging declined over time, with multimorbidity, especially musculoskeletal and neurological conditions, accelerating this decline. Fortunately, PA, especially light to moderate intensities, is associated with improving healthy aging and moderating the impact of multimorbidity on the disability and cognitive functioning domains of healthy aging. However, the specific moderating effects of PA depend on its frequency, intensity, and chronic conditions. Conclusions: The significant variability in healthy aging attainment among retired older adults underlies the need to consider these differences when addressing healthy aging issues in the US. Accounting for these variations would aid in evaluating the potential impact of future interventions and contribute to achieving health equity. Fortunately, our dynamic findings facilitate this objective by identifying specific frequencies and intensities of PA tailored to different aspects of multimorbidity and healthy aging. This highlights PA, especially light-to-moderate intensity, as an essential, cost-effective, and amenable strategy for alleviating the impact of multimorbidity on healthy aging. This study aims to investigate the significant relationship between serum heavy metals (lead [Pb], cadmium [Cd], mercury [Hg]) and the risk of herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV‐1) infection. Data were derived from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) conducted in the United States from 2007 to 2016. This nationally representative survey, conducted by the National Center for Health Statistics, assessed the health status of participants through interviews, physical examinations, and laboratory tests. After excluding participants lacking serum Pb, Cd, and Hg data, as well as those missing HSV‐1 testing data and pregnant women, the analysis included 13 772 participants, among whom 3363 were adolescents. A survey‐weighted multivariate logistic regression model was used to evaluate the association between heavy metal exposure and the risk of HSV‐1 infection, and to explore the dose–response relationship between them. In adults and adolescents, serum concentrations of Pb and Cd were higher in those infected with HSV‐1 than in those not infected. However, an increase in serum Hg concentration was observed only in infected adolescents. After adjusting for potential confounders, elevated serum Pb and Cd concentrations in adults were associated with an increased risk of HSV‐1 infection. Higher serum Pb and Cd concentrations were associated with an increased risk of HSV‐2 infection, irrespective of HSV‐1 infection status. In adults, serum concentrations of Pb and Hg showed an approximately linear relationship with HSV‐1 infection risk (p for nonlinearity > 0.05), whereas the dose–response relationship between serum Cd concentration and HSV‐1 infection was nonlinear (p for nonlinearity = 0.004). In adolescents, serum concentrations of heavy metals (Pb, Cd, Hg) showed an approximately linear relationship with HSV‐1 infection (p for nonlinearity > 0.05). Furthermore, the study examined the relationship between serum heavy metal levels and the risk of HSV‐1 infection across different genders, races, income levels, weight statuses, and immune statuses. In conclusion, there is a significant association between serum heavy metal concentrations and HSV‐1 infection, which warrants further investigation into the causal relationship between them. BACKGROUND: Evidence linking gaseous air pollution to late-life brain health is mixed. OBJECTIVE: We explored associations between exposure to gaseous pollutants and brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) markers among Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities (ARIC) Study participants, with attention to the influence of exposure estimation method and confounding by site. METHODS: We considered data from 1,665 eligible ARIC participants recruited from four US sites in the period 1987–1989 with valid brain MRI data from Visit 5 (2011–2013). We estimated 10-y (2001–2010) mean carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), nitrogen oxides (NOx), and 8- and 24-h ozone (O3) concentrations at participant addresses, using multiple exposure estimation methods. We estimated site-specific associations between pollutant exposures and brain MRI outcomes (total and regional volumes; presence of microhemorrhages, infarcts, lacunes, and severe white matter hyperintensities), using adjusted linear and logistic regression models. We compared meta-analytically combined site-specific associations to analyses that did not account for site. RESULTS: Within-site exposure distributions varied across exposure estimation methods. Meta-analytic associations were generally not statistically significant regardless of exposure, outcome, or exposure estimation method; point estimates often suggested associations between higher NO2 and NOx and smaller temporal lobe, deep gray, hippocampal, frontal lobe, and Alzheimer disease signature region of interest volumes and between higher CO and smaller temporal and frontal lobe volumes. Analyses that did not account for study site more often yielded significant associations and sometimes different direction of associations. DISCUSSION: Patterns of local variation in estimated air pollution concentrations differ by estimation method. Although we did not find strong evidence supporting impact of gaseous pollutants on brain changes detectable by MRI, point estimates suggested associations between higher exposure to CO, NOx, and NO2 and smaller regional brain volumes. Analyses of air pollution and dementia-related outcomes that do not adjust for location likely underestimate uncertainty and may be susceptible to confounding bias. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Policy PointsThis study examines the impact of several world‐changing events in 2020, such as the pandemic and widespread racism protests, on the US population's comfort with the use of identifiable data for public health. Before the 2020 election, there was no significant difference between Democrats and Republicans. However, African Americans exhibited a decrease in comfort that was different from other subgroups.Our findings suggest that the public remained supportive of public health data activities through the pandemic and the turmoil of 2020 election cycle relative to other data use. However, support among African Americans for public health data use experienced a unique decline compared to other demographic groups. Context: Recent legislative privacy efforts have not included special provisions for public health data use. Although past studies documented support for public health data use, several global events in 2020 have raised awareness and concern about privacy and data use. This study aims to understand whether the events of 2020 affected US privacy preferences on secondary uses of identifiable data, focusing on public health and research uses. Methods: We deployed two online surveys—in February and November 2020—on data privacy attitudes and preferences using a choice‐based–conjoint analysis. Participants received different data‐use scenario pairs—varied by the type of data, user, and purpose—and selected scenarios based on their comfort. A hierarchical Bayes regression model simulated population preferences. Findings: There were 1,373 responses. There was no statistically significant difference in the population's data preferences between February and November, each showing the highest comfort with population health and research data activities and the lowest with profit‐driven activities. Most subgroups' data preferences were comparable with the population's preferences, except African Americans who showed significant decreases in comfort with population health and research. Conclusions: Despite world‐changing events, including a pandemic, we found bipartisan public support for using identifiable data for public health and research. The decreasing support among African Americans could relate to the increased awareness of systemic racism, its harms, and persistent disparities. The US population's preferences support including legal provisions that permit public health and research data use in US laws, which are currently lacking specific public health use permissions. This retrospective study utilized the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System (NEISS) database to identify pediatric emergency department (ED) patients with playground-associated craniofacial injuries between January 2012 and December 2021. A total of 25 414 patients were identified. The majority of injuries occurred in preschool and elementary school–age children (90.3%) and patients were more commonly boys (59.3%). Injuries most often involved the head/scalp (52.4%), face (30.4%), and mouth (11.9%). Infant (32.7%) and teen (40.0%) injuries most commonly involved swings, whereas preschool (23.1%) and elementary school (28.1%) injuries were mostly associated with slides and climbers, respectively. Most patients were treated in the ED and discharged to home (96.5%), a small portion required hospitalization (1.6%), and one death was reported. Although the majority of the injuries were relatively minor and resulted in same-day discharges, these injuries can result in serious physical harm, emotional stress, and unexpected financial burdens. Background: The impact of bacterial vaginosis on women's health is an increasing concern; however, the effect of the obesity index on bacterial vaginosis is controversial. We investigated the association between body mass index and bacterial vaginosis in women in the United States. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study which obtained the data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 2001 to 2004, in which weighted multivariate regression and logistic regression analyses were performed to explore the independent relationship between body mass index and bacterial vaginosis. Subgroup analyses and smoothed curve fitting were also performed. Results: A total of 5,428 participants were enrolled, and the findings show that the participants with higher body mass index tended to have a higher incidence of bacterial vaginosis. In the fully adjusted model, a positive association between bacterial vaginosis and body mass index was observed (Odd's ratio = 1.03, 95% Confidence interval, 1.01–1.04). The subgroup analysis showed that this positive association was significant in non-Hispanic White individuals (Odd's ratio = 1.0327, 95% Confidence interval, 1.0163, 1.0493). Aim: To examine the impact of both individual and cumulative social determinants of health (SDoH) on the likelihood of developing periodontitis, while also exploring any gender disparities in this relationship. Materials and Methods: Data of self‐reported SDoH domains and sub‐items based on Healthy People 2030 were obtained from the U.S. National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys between 1999 and 2014. Logistic regression models, weighted by survey responses, were used to examine the relationship between SDoH (including eight sub‐items and the cumulative number of unfavourable SDoH) and periodontitis. The results were further analysed by gender. Results: A total of 18,075 participants (8867 males and 9208 females) were included in the main analysis, of which 5814 (32.2%) had periodontitis. The study found that certain unfavourable SDoH were individually associated with higher odds of periodontitis, and the cumulative number of unfavourable SDoH was positively linked to the odds of developing periodontitis. Furthermore, males exposed to more unfavourable SDoH appeared to be more susceptible to developing periodontitis than females. Conclusions: The findings suggest that unfavourable SDoH, especially when they accumulate, are associated with an increased odds of periodontitis and contribute to gender disparities within the U.S. population. Background: The stability ratio (SR) is used to assess the stability of the glenoid in anterior shoulder instability (ASI). However, the association between the SR and postoperative clinical function and instability recurrence after arthroscopic Bankart repair is unknown. Hypothesis: Patients with a higher SR would have better postoperative clinical scores and a lower incidence of recurrent instability than patients with a lower SR after arthroscopic Bankart repair. Study Design: Cohort study; Level of evidence, 3. Methods: A total of 62 patients who underwent arthroscopic Bankart repair for ASI between 2013 and 2019 were enrolled. All patients had at least 2 years of follow-up data. The preoperative SR was calculated via biomechanical testing based on patient-specific 3-dimensional glenoid models, and patients were evenly divided into 2 groups: high SR (≥16.13%) and low SR (<16.13%). Baseline information (patient characteristics, clinical history, bone defect area [BDA], and SR), clinical scores at the final follow-up (Single Assessment Numerical Evaluation, Western Ontario Shoulder Index, and American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons), and instability recurrence were compared between the 2 groups. Results: No significant differences were found in the baseline information between the high- and low-SR groups, except for the BDA (8.5% [high-SR group] vs 11.9% [low-SR group]; P = .01). No patients in the high-SR group had recurrent instability, while 6 patients (19.4%) had recurrent instability in the low-SR group (P = .02). Patients in the high-SR group had superior clinical outcomes compared with those in the low-SR group in terms of postoperative Western Ontario Shoulder Index scores (median, 205 vs 410, respectively; P = .006) and American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons scores (median, 98.3 vs 95, respectively; P = .02). A randomized, double‐blind, placebo‐controlled study (SAVEMORE trial) provided data to support an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) of anakinra in hospitalized adults with positive results of direct severe acute respiratory syndrome‐coronavirus 2 viral testing with pneumonia requiring supplemental oxygen (low‐ or high‐flow oxygen) who are at risk of progressing to severe respiratory failure and likely to have an elevated plasma soluble urokinase plasminogen activator receptor (suPAR). Currently, the suPAR assay is not commercially available in the United States. An alternative method was needed to identify patients that best reflect the population in the clinical trial selected based on suPAR level ≥ 6 ng/mL at baseline. A machine learning approach based on data from the SAVEMORE trial was used to develop a scoring rule to identify patients who are likely to have a suPAR level ≥ 6 ng/mL at baseline. External validation of the scoring rule was conducted with data from a different trial (SAVE). This clinical scoring rule with high positive predictive value, high specificity, reasonable sensitivity, and biological relevance is expected to identify patients who are likely to have an elevated suPAR level ≥ 6 ng/mL at baseline. Background: There is a growing acknowledgment of the potential influence of antioxidative effects resulting from dietary decisions on the occurrence of stroke. The objective of this study was to elucidate the correlation between the composite dietary antioxidant index (CDAI) and the incidence of stroke in the general population of the United States. Methods: We gathered cross-sectional data encompassing 40,320 participants from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) spanning the years 1999 to 2018. Employing weighted multivariate logistic regression, we assessed the correlation between CDAI and stroke, while also investigating potential nonlinear relationships through restricted cubic spline (RCS) regression. Further, the intake of CDAI components were then incorporated into a predictive nomogram model, subsequently evaluated for its discriminatory prowess in stroke risk assessment using the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. Moreover, the adjusted OR [95% CI] for stroke across ascending CDAI quartiles stood at 0.90 [0.74-1.09], 0.74 [0.60-0.91], and 0.61 [0.50-0.76] compared to the reference quartile, respectively. The RCS analysis indicated a nonlinear yet negative correlation between CDAI and stroke. The nomogram model, constructed based the intake of antioxidants, exhibited a significant predictive capacity for stroke risk, boasting an area under the curve (AUC) of 77.4% (76.3%-78.5%). Conclusion: Our investigation ascertained a nonlinear negative relationship between CDAI and stroke within the broader American population. Supervisor retention is important due to their critical role in child welfare; nevertheless, most research examining child welfare workforce retention has an explicit focus on caseworkers, with less attention to supervisors. This study examined the differences in work experiences between child welfare supervisors and caseworkers and the specific factors contributing to their retention, with a focus on various domains of support. Data were drawn from a large survey, the Comprehensive Organizational Health Assessment (COHA), conducted by the National Child Welfare Workforce Institute (NCWWI). The findings revealed that child welfare supervisors and caseworkers had different work experiences. Supervisors were less satisfied with peer support and supervision than caseworkers. Supervisors and caseworkers had similar factors predicting their retention; however, job position was found to be a critical factor influencing their intent to stay. Position-related characteristics should be considered when designing strategies to improve workforce retention in child welfare. It is essential to provide supervisors with more consistent, evidence-informed supervision, aligning with their high-demand job requirements. Background: The balance of vaginal microecology is closely related to human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and cervical lesions. This study aims to investigate the relationship between bacterial vaginosis (BV) and HPV infection. Methods: In total, 1,310 individuals from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES, 2003–2004) were included in this study. Logistic regression and subgroup analyses were used to examine the association between BV and HPV infection. Results: A significant positive association was observed between BV and HPV infection in women after adjustment for other confounders (OR = 1.47, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.15–1.88). In subgroup analyses, we have found this positive correlation was most prominent among Mexican Americans (OR = 1.83, 95% CI: 1.08–3.08) and non-Hispanic blacks (OR = 1.81, 95% CI: 1.08–3.04). Ureteral injuries (UIs) during surgical procedures can have serious consequences for patients. Although UIs can result in substantial clinical burden, few studies report the impact of these injuries on payer reimbursement and patient cost-sharing. This retrospective study evaluated 30-day, 90-day, and 1-year healthcare resource utilization for patients with UIs and estimated patient and payer costs. Patients aged ≥ 12 years who underwent abdominopelvic surgery from January 2016 to December 2018 were identified in a United States claims database. Patients were followed for 1 year to estimate all-cause healthcare visits and costs for patients and payers. Surgeries resulting in UIs within 30 days from the surgery date were matched to surgeries without UIs to estimate UI-attributable visits and costs. Five hundred and twenty-two patients with UIs were included. Almost a third (29.9%) of patients with UIs had outpatient surgery. Patients with UIs had slightly more healthcare visits and a 15.3% higher 30-day hospital readmission rate than patients without UIs. Patient costs due to UIs were not statistically significant, but annual payer costs attributable to UIs were $38,859 (95% CI = 28,142–49,576), largely driven by inpatient costs. UIs add substantial cost for payers and result in more healthcare visits for patients. These findings highlight the importance of including inpatient and outpatient settings for UI prevention. Although UIs are rare, the associated patient and payer burdens are high; thus, protocols or techniques are needed to recognize and avert UIs as current guideline recommendations are lacking. Though not common, injuries to the ureters, which carry urine from the kidneys to the bladder, can occur during surgeries on the abdomen. Ureter injuries can lead to discomfort, pain, infection, and death. Patients with ureter injuries can also require additional care from doctors, leading to increased costs for both patients and insurance companies. The researchers in this study calculated the costs of ureter injuries at 30-days, 90-days, and 1-year after surgery using anonymous information from insurance claims from patients who received abdominal surgery. Compared with patients who did not have a ureter injury from surgery, a higher percentage of those with ureter injuries had healthcare visits in the year following surgery and a greater chance of being readmitted to the hospital in the 30 days after surgery. Costs for both patients and insurance companies increased in the year after surgery. Insurance companies paid almost $39,000 more on average per patient with ureter injury in the year after surgery compared with costs for patients who did not have ureter injuries. Patients with ureter injuries paid approximately $1,000 more out-of-pocket in the year after surgery compared with patients without ureter injuries. This study showed that ureter injuries increased costs for both patients and insurance companies. Patients with ureter injuries needed more healthcare and the insurance companies for those patients had higher financial costs. Purpose: This study sought to replicate a previous investigation of construct-irrelevant variance on the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) clinical licensing exam completed by Albright and Thyer over a decade ago. Method: The performance of ChatGPT was assessed on a modified version of 50 newly developed clinical exam questions currently distributed by the ASWB, where only the four multiple-choice options for each item were presented without the question. Results: ChatGPT achieved an average accuracy rate of 73.3% across three rounds of testing, providing strong evidence of construct-irrelevant variance. Discussion: These results raise concerns about the construct validity of the clinical exam and emphasize the need for reassessment of its structure and content to ensure fairness and accuracy. Background: Single-cell sequencing (SCS) is a technique used to analyze the genome, transcriptome, epigenome, and other genetic data at the level of a single cell. The procedure is commonly utilized in multiple fields, including neurobiology, immunology, and microbiology, and has emerged as a key focus of life science research. However, a thorough and impartial analysis of the existing state and trends of SCS-related research is lacking. The current study aimed to map the development trends of studies on SCS during the years 2010-2022 through bibliometric software. Methods: Pertinent papers on SCS from 2010 to 2022 were obtained using the Web of Science Core Collection. Research categories, nations/institutions, authors/co-cited authors, journals/co-cited journals, co-cited references, and keywords were analyzed using VOSviewer, the R package "bibliometric", and CiteSpace. Results: The bibliometric analysis included 9,929 papers published between 2010 and 2022, and showed a consistent increase in the quantity of papers each year. The United States was the source of the highest quantity of articles and citations in this field. The majority of articles were published in the periodical Nature Communications. Butler A was the most frequently quoted author on this topic, and his article "Integrating single-cell transcriptome data across diverse conditions, technologies, and species" has received numerous citations to date. The literature and keyword analysis showed that studies involving single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) were prominent in this discipline during the study period. Conclusion: This study utilized bibliometric techniques to visualize research in SCS-related domains, which facilitated the identification of emerging patterns and future directions in the field. Simple Summary: Although male breast cancer (MBC) is globally rare, its incidence significantly increased from 1990 to 2017. The aim of this study was to examine variations in the trends of MBC incidence between populations in Taiwan and the USA. Analysis of related databases from the two countries showed MBC incidence in Taiwan rapidly increased in contrast to the much slower increase in the USA during the same period. Furthermore, the results of the age-period-cohort analysis demonstrated a stronger cohort effect on the MBC incidence trend in Taiwan than in the USA. The observed cohort effect in this study is similar to that of a prior investigation on female breast cancer in Taiwan, indicating the potential influence of common environmental factors in both genders, such as a high-fat diet and xenoestrogen. The identified cohort effect in this study bears resemblance to that noted in a previous investigation on female breast cancer in Taiwan. Introduction: The legalization of cannabis in the United States (US) is increasing. Similarly, published literature indicates that pediatric cannabis exposures have increased, including in Texas, where the recreational use of cannabis is illegal, but certain physicians can prescribe cannabis for patients with certain conditions. Adverse effects associated with pediatric cannabis exposure include drowsiness or lethargy, ataxia, tachycardia, mydriasis, hypotonia, muscle rigidity, seizures, and agitation or irritability. The objective of this study was to characterize trends in cannabis exposures by young children treated at US hospital emergency departments (EDs). Methods: Data were obtained from the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System (NEISS), a database of consumer product-related injuries and all poisonings among children 0-4 years collected from a sample of approximately 100 US hospital EDs. National estimates can be calculated from database records. Cannabis exposures involving patients age 0-4 years reported during 2000-2022 were identified and analyzed. Results: A total of 270 cannabis exposures involving patients age 0-4 years treated at a sample of US hospital EDs during 2000-2022 were identified, resulting in a national estimate of 5,504 such exposures. The annual estimated number of exposures ranged between 0 and 175 during 2000-2017 and was 415 in 2018, 416 in 2019, 757 in 2020, 1,429 in 2021, and 1,440 in 2022. The distribution by disposition was 43.3% treated or examined and released from the ED, 40.7% treated and admitted for hospitalization, 6.6% held for observation, 7.9% treated and transferred to another hospital, and 4.5% left without being seen/left against medical advice. Conclusion: This study found that the number of pediatric cannabis exposures treated at US hospital EDs increased greatly during 2018-2022 when compared to the prior 18 years. Background: The aim of this study is to explore and illustrate the focal points concerning acupuncture's impact on microcirculation and hemorheology over the past 26 years, and to identify future directions in this field.Methods: Data in this area were gathered from the Web of Science Core Collection database. Employing CiteSpace, VOSviewer, Scimago Graphica, and Microsoft Excel software, we analyzed authors, institutions, and countries to evaluate scientific collaboration. Moreover, we carried out an analysis of keyword clustering, references, and burst detection to examine the prominent research areas and emerging trends in this domain.Results: The study analyzed 706 documents, 471 institutions, 632 journals, 40 countries, 581 keywords, and 3289 authors related to acupuncture for microcirculation and hemorheology. Data revealed a consistent increase in research output over 26 years. China, with the most publications and citations, significantly contributed to the field, often collaborating with the United States. Elisabet Stener-Victorin and the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences were the most productive author and institution, respectively. The journal Evidence-based Complementary and Alternative Medicine held the most influence. Common keywords included "vasoactive substances", "neurotransmitters", "signaling pathways", and "oxidative stress", among others. Research topics focused on female infertility, ischemic stroke, and pain syndromes, with treatment approaches such as electroacupuncture, manual acupuncture, auricular acupuncture, and cupping therapy.Conclusion: Women's infertility, ischemic stroke, and pain syndromes have emerged as hotspots in research. Future directions may include comparative studies of traditional and modern acupuncture techniques to evaluate their respective therapeutic effects. Background: Whether there is an association between dietary choline intake and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in American adults remains unclear. Methods: Data came from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2017–2018. Choline intake was defined by the mean amounts of two 24 h dietary recalls, and choline intake was categorized into three groups according to the quartiles: inadequate (25), average (P25–P75), and optimal (>P75). Hepatic steatosis was assessed with FibroScan®, in which VCTE was employed with controlled attenuation to derive the controlled attenuation parameter (CAP), and NAFLD was defined as a CAP score ≥285 dB/m. Multivariable linear regression was performed to assess the linear relationship between choline intake and CAP. Multivariable logistics regression models were conducted to assess the association between choline intake status and NAFLD in the final sample and subgroup analysis was then performed in men and women. Results: The amount of dietary choline was inversely associated with CAP score (β = −0.262, 95% CI: −0.280, −0.245). Compared to inadequate choline intake, optimal choline intake was related to a lower risk of NAFLD (OR: 0.705, 95% CI: 0.704–0.706) in the final sample. Subgroup analysis by gender revealed that the highest choline intake status was associated with a lower risk of NAFLD both in females (OR: 0.764, 95% CI: 0.762–0.766), and males (OR: 0.955, 95% CI: 0.953–0.958) when compared to the lowest choline intake. Conclusions: With the latest NHANES data, we found that higher dietary choline was associated with a lower risk of NAFLD in American adults, and such a relationship exists in both females and males. This research attempts to both replicate initial research on media prescriptions – the assignment of small doses of positively-valenced media for the purposes of reducing perceived stress – and, through the lens of the broaden-and-build theory, shed light on the process through which this effect might emerge. Two longitudinal data sets were collected, one with college students (N = 182) and one with U.S. adults (N = 197), in which participants were assigned to watch either comedic or inspiring media clips every day for 5 days. Findings indicated that both amusement and hope generated by media exposure reduced perceived stress over time. Specifically, inspiring media reduced perceived stress through its effect on felt hope for both samples, whereas comedic media reduced perceived stress via felt amusement for the general adult sample only. Further, as predicted, serial mediation through felt emotion and coping efficacy emerged for amusement in the student sample and for hope in the general sample. Given these data were collected during an inordinately stressful time in both the U.S. and the world with rising rates of COVID-19, a highly contentious political election, and tensions over racial inequity, these findings suggest that media, if harnessed appropriately, could be a useful tool in one's coping arsenal. Background: Socioeconomic status (SES) is important in students' reading development. The mechanism of how they are linked, however, is underexplored. Aims: This research aimed to explore whether reading self‐concept mediates the link between SES and reading achievement and whether teacher support moderates the direct and indirect link between SES and reading achievement. Samples: Using PISA 2018 database, we selected 17,346 15‐year‐olds from 537 schools in B‐S‐J‐Z (China) and the United States (U.S.). Methods: Multilevel linear models were calculated to explore the potential mediation of self‐concept and the potential moderation of teacher support between SES and reading achievement. Results: Results reveal that reading self‐concept mediated the link between SES and reading achievement at student level both in China and the United States, and teacher support moderated the link between SES and reading self‐concept both at student level and school level only in China, but not in the United States. According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the number of runway incursions is increasing. Over the last two decades, the number of runway incursions at U.S. airports has increased from 987 in 2002 to 25,036 in 2020. Runway incursions are a major threat to aviation safety, causing major delays and financial consequences for airlines, as well as injury or death through incidents such as aircraft collisions. The FAA promotes the implementation of runway safety technology, infrastructure, procedural methods, alterations to airport layouts, and training practices to reduce the frequency of runway incursions. In this paper, the relationship between airport geometry factors, mitigating technologies, and the number of runway incursions at large hub airports in the United States was investigated using a random effects Poisson model for analyses of panel data. Airport operations data from the FAA Air Traffic Activity System, runway incursion data from the FAA Aviation Safety Information Analysis and Sharing System from 2002 to 2020, and airport geometry data created using airport geometry features from the FAA airport diagrams were collected. Thirty large hub airports with FAA-installed mitigating technologies were investigated. The model identified significant variables that correlate with runway incursions for large hub airport categories defined by the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS). The model results indicate that airports with significant numbers of runway-to-runway intersection points increase runway incursion rates and mitigating technologies Runway Status Lights (RWSLs) and Airport Surface Detection Equipment, Model X (ASDE-X), can help reduce runway incursions at severity levels A and B. Background: The Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder – Genes and Environment (ARFID-GEN) study is a study of genetic and environmental factors that contribute to risk for developing ARFID in children and adults. Methods: A total of 3,000 children and adults with ARFID from the United States will be included. Parents/guardians and their children with ARFID (ages 7 to 17) and adults with ARFID (ages 18 +) will complete comprehensive online consent, parent verification of child assent (when applicable), and phenotyping. Enrolled participants with ARFID will submit a saliva sample for genotyping. A genome-wide association study of ARFID will be conducted. Discussion: ARFID-GEN, a large-scale genetic study of ARFID, is designed to rapidly advance the study of the genetics of eating disorders. We will explicate the genetic architecture of ARFID relative to other eating disorders and to other psychiatric, neurodevelopmental, and metabolic disorders and traits. Our goal is for ARFID to deliver "actionable" findings that can be transformed into clinically meaningful insights. Objective: To elucidate clinical characteristics and build a prognostic nomogram for patients with vulvar cancer. Methods: The study population was drawn from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. Patients were randomly assigned to training and validation sets. Cox proportional hazards model and competing risk model were used to identify the prognostic parameters of overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS) to construct a nomogram. The nomogram was assessed by concordance index (C-index), area under the curve (AUC), calibration plot, and decision curve analysis (DCA). Results: A total of 20,716 patients were included in epidemiological analysis, of whom 7,025 patients were selected in survival analysis, including 4,215 and 2,810 in training and validation sets, respectively. The multivariate Cox model showed that the predictors for OS were age, marital status, histopathology, differentiation and tumor node metastasis (TNM) stages, whether to undergo surgery and chemotherapy. However, the predictors for CSS were age, race, differentiation and TNM stages, whether to undergo surgery and radiation. The C-index for OS and CSS in the training set were 0.76 and 0.80. The AUC in the training set for 1-, 3- and 5-year OS and CSS were 0.84, 0.81, 0.80 and 0.88, 0.85, 0.83, respectively, which was similar in the validation set. The calibration curves showed good agreement between prediction and actual observations. DCA revealed that the nomogram had a better discrimination than TNM stages. Conclusions: The nomogram showed accurate prognostic prediction in OS and CSS for vulvar cancer, which could provide guidance to clinical practice. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Real-world US healthcare resource utilization (HRU) and costs during first salvage therapy for relapsed/refractory (R/R) acute myeloid leukemia (AML) are described using IBM MarketScan® data (1/1/2007–6/30/2020). Treatments included high- (HIC) and low-intensity chemotherapy (LIC) alone, and gilteritinib, other FLT3 tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), and venetoclax with or without chemotherapy. Patients were diagnosed with R/R AML at ≥18 years of age between 1/1/2017–12/31/2019. Patient monthly all-cause HRU and costs were analyzed using a fixed-effects model. Data from 399 patients were analyzed (HIC, n = 104; LIC, n = 133; gilteritinib, n = 14; other FLT3 TKIs, n = 68; venetoclax, n = 80). Inpatient HRU was generally highest with HIC, whereas outpatient HRU was generally highest with LIC and venetoclax. Total all-cause incremental monthly costs appeared to be highest with HIC ($171,982) and similar for LIC ($60,512), gilteritinib ($47,218), other FLT3 TKIs ($43,218), and venetoclax ($77,566). Identifying students with ASD in the People's Republic of China (PRC) has lagged behind western countries, particularly the United States. Families often have to travel long distances to obtain a diagnosis and then are faced with few treatment options once the diagnosis is made. Recent laws governing special education in the PRC do not specifically address children with ASD; consequently, educational programs for these children are scarce. Though more special education teacher preparation programs are emerging, many are not well equipped to support teachers of children with ASD. Consequently, the need for in-service training in the area of ASD is significant. This manuscript discusses a collaborative two-year professional development project aimed at providing teachers in Nanjing, China, with much needed skills in working with students with ASD. A distance training model was employed to train teachers how to use informal assessment to guide instruction and monitor progress of their students.

Background: Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is a global health concern that can potentially affect bone health. However, the specific association between resolved HBV infection and bone mineral density (BMD) remains unclear. This cross-sectional study aimed to investigate the potential association between resolved HBV infection and femoral and spinal BMD in adults in the United States. Methods: This cross-sectional study included participants aged 20-79 years with negative HBV surface antigen (HBsAg) fromthe 2005-2010, 2013-2014, and 2017-2018 cycles of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Resolved HBV infection was defined as negative HBsAg with positive HBV core antibody. BMD was measured using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. Propensity score matching (PSM) was performed to balance baseline characteristics. Results: A total of 10,333 eligible participants were identified and matched, of whom 737 (7.1%) had resolved HBV infection. Men with resolved HBV infection had significantly lower femoral and spinal BMD compared to those with no HBV infection, both before and after PSM. In the matched population, resolved HBV infection in men was negatively associated with femoral BMD (b= -0.024, 95% CI: -0.047 to -0.002, p = 0.0332) and spinal BMD (b= -0.025, 95% CI: -0.048 to -0.002, p = 0.0339). Postmenopausal women exhibited similar trends to men, while premenopausal women showed a tendency towards higher BMD, although statistical significance was not consistently achieved. Subgroup and sensitivity analyses supported the robustness of the findings. Conclusion: The study suggests a negative association between resolved HBV infection and femoral and spinal BMD in adult men in the United States. Adverse pregnancy outcomes (APOs) are major risk factors for women's health during pregnancy and even in the years after pregnancy. Due to the heterogeneity of APOs, only few genetic associations have been identified. In this report, we conducted genome-wide association studies (GWASs) of 479 traits that are possibly related to APOs using a large and racially diverse study, Nulliparous Pregnancy Outcomes Study: Monitoring Mothers-to-Be (nuMoM2b). To display extensive results, we developed a web-based tool GnuMoM2b (https://gnumom2b.cumcobgyn.org/) for searching, visualizing, and sharing results from a GWAS of 479 pregnancy traits as well as phenome-wide association studies of more than 17 million single nucleotide polymorphisms. The genetic results from 3 ancestries (Europeans, Africans, and Admixed Americans) and meta-analyses are populated in GnuMoM2b. Exercise addiction refers to maladaptive exercise patterns involving compulsivity and addiction-like behaviors. Exercise addiction has been found to relate to negative physical and mental health outcomes such as heart abnormalities, physical injuries, and interpersonal conflicts. Based on the social cognitive theory, this study investigated the extent to which the interplay of obsessive compulsive personality disorder (OCPD) traits and self-efficacy beliefs would influence the development and maintenance of exercise addiction. A total of 1228 college students in the United States responded to an online survey. Based on cut-off scores of the Revised Exercise Addiction Inventory, the prevalence estimates of exercise addiction were 4.0% for males and 1.8% for females. Results showed that males are more prone to exercise addiction than females. Also, OCPD traits and self-efficacy significantly predicted exercise addiction after controlling for age and sex. Self-efficacy acted as a moderator in influencing the relationship between OCPD traits and exercise addiction, especially for females. At high levels of self-efficacy, more OCPD traits were significantly associated with a higher risk of exercise addiction. However, at low levels of self-efficacy, there was no association between OCPD traits and exercise addiction. BACKGROUND: Although many studies have linked prenatal exposure to PM2.5 to adverse birth outcomes, little is known about the effects of exposure to specific constituents of PM2.5 or mechanisms that contribute to these outcomes. OBJECTIVES: Our objective was to investigate effects of oxidative potential and PM2.5 metal components from non-exhaust traffic emissions, such as brake and tire wear, on the risk of preterm birth (PTB) and term low birth weight (TLBW). METHODS: For a birth cohort of 285,614 singletons born in Los Angeles County, California, in the period 2017–2019, we estimated speciated PM2.5 exposures modeled from land use regression with cokriging, including brake and tire wear related metals (barium and zinc), black carbon, and three markers of oxidative potential (OP), including modeled reactive oxygen species based on measured iron and copper (ROS), OH formation (OPOH), and dithiothreitol (DTT) loss (OPDTT). Using logistic regression, we estimated odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) for PTB and TLBW with speciated PM2.5 exposures and PM2.5 mass as continuous variables scaled by their interquartile range (IQR). RESULTS: For both metals and oxidative potential metrics, we estimated increased risks for PTB (ORs ranging from 1.01 to 1.03) and TLBW (ORs ranging from 1.02 to 1.05) per IQR exposure increment that were robust to adjustment for PM2.5 mass. Associations for PM2.5 mass, black carbon, metal components, and oxidative potential (especially ROS and OPOH) with adverse birth outcomes were stronger in Hispanic, Black, and mixed-race or Native American women. DISCUSSION: Our results indicate that exposure to PM2.5 metals from brake and tire wear and particle components that contribute to oxidative potential were associated with an increased risk of PTB and TLBW in Los Angeles County, particularly among Hispanic, Black, and mixed-race or Native American women. Thus, reduction of PM2.5 mass only may not be sufficient to protect the most vulnerable pregnant women and children from adverse effects due to traffic source exposures. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Neoadjuvant therapy (NAT) for pancreatic cancer (PC) has achieved certain results. This article was aimed to analyze the trends in NAT in PC over the past 20 years using bibliometric analysis and visualization tools to guide researchers in exploring future research hotspots. Articles related to NAT for PC were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection for the period 2002–2021. The information was analyzed and visualized using VOSviewer, Citespace, Microsoft Excel and R software. The number of articles per year has continued to increase over the past 20 years. Of the 1,598 eligible articles, the highest number was from the United States (760), and an analysis of institutions indicated that the University of Texas System (150) had the highest number of articles. Matthew H. G. Katz had the highest number of citations and the highest H-index. "Pancreatic cancer" (981), "Resection" (623), "Cancer" (553), "Neoadjuvant therapy" (509) and "Survival" (484) were the top five ranked keywords. Combined with the keywords-cluster analysis and citation burst analysis, current research hotspots were the optimal NAT regimen, NAT response assessment, NAT for resectable PC and management of complications. NAT has received increasing attention in the field of PC over the past 20 years, but greater collaboration between countries and additional multicenter randomized clinical trials are needed.
