The article presents the highlights of the findings of a review of the international evidence on the costs associated with disability. Great Britain's Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) commissioned the review to help in the assessment of the country's disability allowance programmes, the Disability Living Allowance (DLA) and the Attendance Allowance (AA). The review, which was conducted by Mathematica Policy Research Inc. (MPR), includes the evaluation of the U.S. allowance programmes. The review also claims that the definition of expenditure equivalence is the most appropriate description of the extra costs of disability in the context of allowance programmes.
